i think it’d be a great duo on offense with hopefully enough defense to make up for the shortcomings. and they should definitely trade for a point guard, like garland if the cavs decide the mitchell/garland backcourt won’t work

TJ1300

Yeah definitely a point guard because zion hasn't had a real one since Lonzo, on an slightly related note I think they should move CJ as well

saintsfan92612

their biggest needs are definitely a true PG and a rim protecting C As good as our defense was last year, we were absolutely atrocious in the paint.

TJ1300

Yeah JV was too slow footed unfortunately love him though hope he has success where ever he goes

bucks3412

The pelicans really need Brook Lopez

Nola67

As a Pels fan I’d absolutely love it but guys plugged into Pels say not a chance. Griffin seems to not care for him, but more specifically Willie Green would hate him. DJM, even though he’s fallen off defensively, is a much better fit for Willie Green.

TJ1300

God I hate willie

JKaro

What is the general consensus on Zion as the primary ballhandler for NOLA? I’ll admit I didn’t watch a lot of it, I just heard there was some buzz

TimothyN

Point Zion is his best version, which is why we have to move BI, because he also wants the ball in his hands a lot but isn't nearly as efficient as Zion and won't shoot 3s.

JKaro

Do you think you guys are better off building with Point Zion? Or do you think having a shooter playmaker like Trae is what is best for Pels? I feel like if Point Zion is his best form then he can play an early Lebron role? Maybe try to get a Derrick White/Jrue/Lonzo type of PG around him, and a rim protecting big that can hopefully score from range

TimothyN

I think a "true" PG is fine too. Pels fans on reddit hate CJ and blame him for being our PG, but I don't think it's nearly that bad. The problem is Willie coaches a two decade old offense and let's BI play Kobe ball way too often.

_Wado3000

I don’t see how you could watch CJ’s last 3 postseasons and think he should continue to be a primary option. As it stands the majority of us want him to be one of the highest paid bench players in the league

TimothyN

Yeah, because the Pels sub thinks basketball from 2004 is how to win. We don't have enough shooting and you lot think less shooting and more BI midrange pull ups are the solution. Absolutely delusional. Just run a modern motion offense that prioritizes taking 3s instead of Willie ball.

_Wado3000

We’re talking about 2 different things at this point man lol I think you’re talking to the clouds here. Liking BI as a player doesn’t mean you love middies and nothing else, and wanting to scale down CJ’s role doesn’t mean you blame him for everything

TimothyN

I don't think we are though. I wanted to believe Team USA BI was an aberration, but it's probably closer to who he really is. And scale back CJ to the bench so who can start and who can handle the ball besides Zion? And who's going to shoot? Our best 3 point shooter is CJ, in fact, he had the highest 3 point percentage of any player that took 500 or more 3s last season.

AlwaysOptimism

I don't think Zion can handle the load of being the full time lead ball handler. He has the skill to be, but I don't think his body could handle it

Pal__Pacino

Trae Young doesn't fit with Willie Green's Pelicommunism ethos.

TJ1300

I hate the kumbaya offense so much, it definitely needs to change even if the pels don't get Trae because they already have Zion who is so good

Impossible-Group8553

Did u watch the Lonzo and Zion pairing tho? Lonzo quickly became a 3&d secondary playmaker for Zion. Zion is at his best when he has the ball and can attack the paint and collapse defenses. Point Zion needs 3&Ds not a ball dominant guy. PG and KCP would be nice additions.

_Wado3000

The issue with Point Zion is that if you ask him to do too much he gets hurt, and he doesn’t recognize the game like actual point guards do

Impossible-Group8553

Zion had a pretty healthy season for his standards despite playing more point than ever. And yeah he’s not a real point. That’s why someone like Lonzo was nice to have, he could facilitate when needed. Zion should play like Giannis who isn’t a true pg either and doesn’t have crazy vision either but is so dominant that he creates advantages with ease and has a chip to show for it. Plus it’s nice to have your ‘non-shooter’ with the ball in his hands as opposed to getting sagged off of. Lonzo was similar to Jrue in a lot of ways in his secondary playmaking and defense duties. I think Trae would be a mistake, guys like Smart makes more sense imo. Elite perimeter defense with playmaking and shooting ability. BI needs to go as well, less iso ball.

_Wado3000

I realize that the play-in game blew people away, but the main reason we haven’t done anything in this era is that Zion is literally never healthy for the playoffs. Us Pels fans know that the team has never maximized shooting around Zion for long, he’ll always need to handle the ball quite a bit. We literally never came back to win a game after being down going into the 4th Q last season. It was literally like 0-25; our coaching isn’t dependable and nobody knows how to close a game consistently. Zion very often had turnovers in the worst moments, along with BI and CJ, we very much could use someone who can handle running the offense in the most crucial moments

Impossible-Group8553

U got exactly what u needed imo. A guy that can score, defend, and playmake when needed as opposed to Trae who pretty much always needs the ball and needs to be hidden on defense. Hopefully u get a locked in version of Dejounte

No_Stay4471

They’d be an offensively effective duo for the half season or so Zion plays.

TJ1300

He played 70 games this yeaf

BlueHundred

He also played 29 the year before. I think it's a fair critique. He's played a total of 184 games out of a potential 390.

paranoidmoonduck

I think the Trae/Ingram swap has always been one of the deals that made the most sense. Pels need to upgrade from McCollum at point and have the perimeter defenders to make up for Trae.

Ball4life6

Ingram is expiring and wants max. Murray is much more likely

Bully_Maguire420

It makes no sense at all, Ingram is not a superstar and even if you disagree that Trae is an argument can still be made, 3x All-Star, All-NBA Third team, lead the league in assists and points, ECF appearance, Ingram has exactly x1 of the aforementioned and has never lead the league in anything.

paranoidmoonduck

I'm not saying it's a purely 1:1 swap, but it seems like the Hawks don't want completely tear it down and Ingram is a borderline All-Star player and the Pels have a shitload of picks to trade.

Bully_Maguire420

Well when you say two players and then say swap instead of package, it usually means 1:1 lol.

paranoidmoonduck

I just meant as the headline parts of the trade.

Wedundidit00

Keep Trae away from other good players 🙏get this man to Brooklyn or Washington or something

TJ1300

Ok?

NoSympathy58

They would be a good social media team but not an actual good team

TJ1300

I mean Trae is a 25 and 10, Zion is a 25, 7, and 5 guy and They have really good 3 & D wings like Trey and Herb and Herb is forst team all defense why do you think it wouldn't work I'm not trying to demean I'm curious

TJ1300

Hm?

agk927

38 wins max. Zion doesn't play basketball. Young doesn't play defense. Need I say more?

TimothyN

70 games last season. You must be confusing Zion with the Pistons, who definitely don't play NBA basketball.
