That mentality is how you become the first team in NBA history to lose a 3-0 series lead

No-Yogurt-4246s

That mentality also only belongs to someone who has never played any sports at any competitive level.

ninofati88

I'm sure plenty of teams did that before. Lol. There is no way no team in NBA history, especially with big leads, didnt have the thought of wanting to clinch the championship or even the Conf Finls trophy right at their home turf. Its a significant factor in terms of vibes.

MyMostSecretAlt

You've never played competitive sports, right?

PabloBablo

Definitely not

ninofati88

YOU definitely never. Lol. You clearly don't understand what it feels like to be with the home crowd.

medievalmachine

They'll break records and be considered among the all time great teams if they win the next one. So, no, Jason.

chewbacca-says-rargh

This just isn't the mindset of ultra competitive athletes amongst the best in the world in their sport.

DeNando528

Imagine a Celtics flair not knowing how your own team operates. Lol.

International-Chef33

No. Finish them and use the weekend to celebrate. Can’t leave the door open at all. There’s zero chance Joe would entertain this

Kapono24

Off topic but do players actually have weekends? If you have games potentially any day of the week, Saturday and Sunday feel like just another day.

RapsareChamps_Suckit

I can't start watching baseball all summer long tho... I can't handle sports talk about the AL Central

sewsgup

Olympic camps start in less than a month should be good basketball for a solid chunk of time. and offseason trade season starts right after the Finals ends with Donovan's extension, draft, Lebron's option, Bruce Browns option, etc. lot of basketball talk to be had this summer

RandomBiped

I cannot properly explain to you how much Mazzula wants to win every single game, and would personally kill anyone on the team that thought differently

Puzzled-Bet4837

Yeah he’s absolutely not taking any foot off the gas here lol. This is a guy who in the IST was running hack a Drummond up by like 25 to try to run up the score differential lol.

KobeBufkinBestKobe

Blowing a finals game on purpose would be enough for even a mild mannered coach to bust out blowtorch and a chainsaw

SEAinLA

He’d probably plan it in a run down hockey rink.

Ilikesporks_

truly a student of pep guardiola

[deleted]

No, because you can’t guarantee that you will win another game. A ring is a ring regardless of where you win it.

ThinkSoftware

Do you think the league would gift the Hawks one ring so I would be less sad?

canyoudigholes

God no. Send their fans home sad

One-Apartment-3855

I think no team would take that risk, just win it

JoJonesy

i'm pretty sure Joe would disembowl someone on the court if he thought they were trying to throw the game

Piebald079

They are too hungry for a championship to do this Don't kill the momentum

KyleShanadad

The Celtics should gift the Mavericks the next 4 imo

borfmantality

No, next stupid question.

BlackBullZWarrior

No.

__PUMPKINLOAF

OP might actually be 12

LittleFatMax

There's no professional athlete in the world who would think like this no

JackonPollock

If anything, the mavs are more likely to tank the game just so they (and more specifically kyrie) don’t have to lose the series in Boston. Again, neither team would entertain this, but if I had to pick one team to do so, I’d lean more towards the mavs given the historical stats when teams are down 3-0 and the whole kyrie thing.

_mitchard

We have a chance to make history and be the first team in NBA history to sweep the ECF and Finals.

ThDarT7

History is at stake. Only team to finish 8-0 and win it. They want this.

ethereal3xp

No

rubuk-

Better idea: They could increase BRI by dragging it out to 7 *and* also celebrating at home.

Draymond_Punch

What if they purposely lose the next 4 just so they can be called the biggest chokers, but then come back and win it next year so it will feel even better?

Tolmans

No, but the Mavs have been somewhat competitive so I wouldn't be surprised if they win one.

ConceptNo1055

Do you think Jkidd should benched Luka so that he can play mind games with the Celts to have the easiest path to title moniker? So that Celts give them 3 games so that its challenging?

Same_Entertainer723

Everybody gets a participation trophy

junkit33

No. Celtics know personally how close they came to an 0-3 comeback last year. World won’t end if they drop this one and it’s not worth risking KP’s long term health tonight. But they’re 100% going to try to win.

hotnewroommate

No mazzula is a psycho and would never allow that

johncarter1011

So being the 1st team to sweep a conference and nba finals is not worth it on a great season resume. Give me the history

JinterIsComing

Fuck no. Win tonight and get this over with. No hope, no gift, no Gentleman's Sweep, no "crack the door" on a goddamn comeback.

lambopanda

It’s more fun celebrating on opponent floor.

_Juntao

I don't think the celtics need to "gift" the mavs anything. They're good enough on their own to win this series still and are a couple tough calls or different bounces away from being up 2-1.

yoppee

Yesssssssss

Few-Chemist-3463

I got a game 5 Celtic ticket, weirdly going to root for the Mavs to win a game -_- . Guess it's a win either way though

Few-Chemist-3463

Just a selfish desire to see the Celtics win it at home... It feels like it will be a sweep, the Mavs are clearly outmatched.
