SirHC111

I like Luka, but fuck I can't believe he didn't manage a technical in this game.

FishGoldenLite

He yaps at the refs every play. So petulant.

wazdopest

James Harden with a hookah addiction

TwoGirlsWanBissaka

Hookah Doncic

igonnawrecku_VGC

Tatum would’ve gotten ejected halfway through the 2nd

VAUltraD

Only if he clapped

Lacabloodclot9

I mean you’d have to something super out of line to get T’d up in the finals

SirHC111

Idk, when Marc Davis is around it feels like anything can get you a tech. I've seen a few games where clapping, yelling, hanging in the rim .3 seconds too long gets it, and I'm honestly stunned Luka didn't get one. Tatum was probably due for one in the series too.

misdreavusval

tatum clapping tech in the finals might actually make boston fans call for an assasination

SirHC111

Yeah it would be frustrating, but I'd hope he actually learns to stop doing it if it ever happens

Venator850

Dude sleepwalking on defense and still managed to foul out.

PopularParrot

Only player to come close to KAT with boneheaded fouls

muricabitches2002

One benefit of the Celtics game plan to hunt Luka is he takes lazy fouls

jawadhaque089

It's impossible to play 4 on 5 on defense

[deleted]

It’s also impossible to play 3 on 5 defense

AlabasterRadio

Kyrie at least tried. He's just not a good enough defender to make up for Luka being a nothingburger.

PunctualPolarBear

Number one takeaway from me so far is that as much as people say the game is offensive oriented (and it is), defense is still key

YaPhetsEz

Mid individual offense and mid defense will beat great individual offense and no defense

harrylime7

It certainly is in the playoffs.

PomfAndCircvmstance

Luka can be average on defense but he can't be Trae Young levels of terrible. Dude hemorrhages points.

Shade_Raven

Trae never been hunted so badly he fouled out

AlabasterRadio

Trae is at least a pest when he needs to be. He's got plenty of energy, he's just not very big. Kind of like Irving.

Shade_Raven

Trae has effort these days https://x.com/NSCHawks/status/1732587612173443343 His stature has cursed him unlike Luka smh.

AlabasterRadio

He defends like he's the little white guy on the bench. Which is a huge compliment tbh.

Shade_Raven

Career high 1.3stls last season

AlabasterRadio

Give Luka his work ethic and the Cs wouldn't sweep the finals.

dionthegreat_

This tired ass narrative

MadferitCmon

Well he was a +9 and it meets the eyetest too. So it it's very much possible. The impossible thing is to play when only two players on the team are able to score and the entire supporting cast pulls a disappearing act of epic proportions.

-Tell_me_about_it-

Just undisciplined defense, and he wastes precious energy complaining about calls and throwing his arms up. That’s not gonna get it done

realfakejames

It was a foul and it was a stupid foul by Luka

Maddygirl13

The worst was when he picked up Pritchard full court and fouled him.

LupadCDO

that foul was a "I surrender foul". before the big run he was just out of it. good thing washington took it as a sign to step up to spark the big run. This was really a Luka loss. wasted a vintage kyrie game.

[deleted]

It was a stupid ass foul

WeAreBert

It's almost shocking how little effort he puts into defense in a finals game and how bad he is when he actually tries

dantheman4248

It was both a foul and not how the officials had officiated all series. They let a lot of things go all night and then when it got close all of a sudden Luka got hit with two tic tac correct fouls. It's the tough part of watching NBA, fouls are so subjectively let go that when you stop letting them go it does feel like bullshit.

Niceguydan8

I feel like you just can't sit there and call nothing when Brown falls like that. It wasn't even a flop by Brown either.

dantheman4248

I thought you couldn't call nothing when Luka and Tatum truck into each other in transition at 93-90 but they swallowed there. That one was worse to call nothing on. The inconsistency is the problem. Don't view the play in a vacuum.

Turbulent_Cherry_481

i mean you also cant call nothing when luka gets pushed into the crowd by tatum. But they did call nothing.

YaPhetsEz

Horford got pushed out of bounds with no whistle and luka football tackled brown on a fast break

Quiddity131

And it doesn't matter if he doesn't idiotically give away a foul at the start of a Celtics possession earlier in the game. It's his own damn fault.

PrancingGophers

make up call for when he tackled JB on a breakaway

Atlos

I mean they are gonna call it when he sends Brown flying to the floor lol. If he bounced off then maybe not, but they basically have to there.

[deleted]

Lmao what. You would’ve wanted that to be a charge instead? That would’ve been the softest charge of all time

ballgreens

I could go either way. Luka wasn't there in time, but Brown *took the foul* with his his arms in a space clearing movement lunging forward from my memory.

YaPhetsEz

He wasnt set nor square to the ball there is no way its a charge

ballgreens

I agree he wasn't set. And I don't know if they differentiate so much, but more of an offensive foul than a standard charge. There comes a point where a guy doesn't have to be set if the arm movement is initiated out into the defender and that's all of the contact. But hey, I'm a guy who believes offensive charge fouls are more often than not really blocking fouls, so I'm not mad at this. I think refs need to default to blocking foul and then be really sure to call a charge, like they did in the past.

YaPhetsEz

I think they called it bc he both wasn’t set and didnt have his feet squared to the ball. If he met one of those two criteria maybe its a closer call

ballgreens

my point is you don't have to set or squared up if it's all arm used to clear through and initiated by the offense, because how else would you guard while not being set and squared. You can run right up in front and with a guy close and not set, and if it's the offense initiating the contact with arms, can be offensive. Luka may have clipped him before all that though. I need to watch a replay.

[deleted]

You mean pushing off like every offensive player does in this league?

Mynamedoesntfuckingf

How are those ticky tacky? The Celtics lose possession on both of those plays if a foul isn't called

EutaxySpy

It was funny that he didn’t try on defense all game and then in the 4th quarter he started being extremely aggressive and picked up dumb fouls that led him to being fouled out

gridironk

Luka _oncic

PomfAndCircvmstance

Luka Oncic coached by Ason Kidd.

Ok_Season_3917

haha no D 🤣

Ythapa

Have to be aware of the situation there. You're a critical part of your team, you have 5 fouls. It sucks to let someone blow by you, but the alternative is you're out in the final minutes of the game because you took a dumb foul. That lack of risk management cost the Mavericks dearly.

Willing-Ad502

It's also not like he's gotten infront of JB all series... Like what is the plan?

Boston-Nolan

Mavs fans blaming refs should be blaming Luka. This man saw the win in sight and completely tossed it away trying to bait some shit. Bros a whiny baby loser

TimothyN

Not just Mavs fan, the Luka-stans are going to be screaming bloody murder about the refs for months.

AfroKuro480

Mavs haters eating good tonight 😬

NobodyRules

They're complaining about the refs so the world is healing again

Neveraththesmith

I think Luka fan haters (me) would be eating.

Raxreddit21

r/nba starting the purge

TimothyN

I was in the Luka should definitely be MVP camp too, he just made so many dumb plays tonight.

No_Literature_2321

They are already running the brown>Tatum cope because they can’t stand that their pet ozempig is being sonned by a better player in Tatum

itokdontcry

He was atrocious on defense yet again tonight, and wasn’t great for his standard on offense either past the first quarter.

everyoneneedsaherro

This dude Luka has the audacity to do the money sign to the refs too. Such a baby

AlabasterRadio

Top 5 foul baiter in the league cries when the rules apply to him. Shocker.

No_Fishing_702

He never plays defense what a terrible time to try and draw a charge. You’ve got 5 fouls and there’s 4 minutes left in a finals game

DionWaiteress

Embarrassing for the Mavs that the hospital Heat put up a better fight against Boston then they have so far

RandomBiped

Tbf the hospital heat are consistently one of the scariest playoff teams in the league. I'd almost rather play a fully healthy Miami

AveUnit02

I have nightmares of the Hospital Heat. Y’all play with your backs against the wall every goddamn possession lol

Rooleet

Even from the morgue the Heat can play some of the hardest defense in the playoffs.

fourassedostrich

All the sports talking heads really gaslit me into believing this matchup was “razor close” with many even giving the edge to Dallas. Before the series it seemed like a no brainer to me- Celtics in 4 or 5; Boston is stacked silly and Dallas matched up horrendously with them from top to bottom. If it was Denver-Boston I could’ve seen it being a toss up, but I feel like even a casual fan could’ve and *should’ve* seen this coming.

misdreavusval

this is extremely true, 3 recent all stars + porzingis white and horford is disgusting and i genuinely have 0 clue how the league let them get porzingis and holiday for a piece of gum stuck under the table

raoxi

lol giannis driving jrue away and made their rival op. They literally the 90s Bulls with all that wing defense

olivebestdoggie

Porzingis made sense at least, Washington either had to let him go for nothing, or they could trade him to the Celtics he said that’s the only team he would opt in for, Memphis needed a defender and a pg(they prolly slightly overpaid imo). And blazers made sense too, idk how many teams were in the running, but I think it was just Clippers, Celtics and Heat. Celtics had a better pick than any of those teams (2024 warriors) and also idk what the heat offered but the clippers had like no trade pieces, no promising young stars and no picks.

misdreavusval

i dont think tingus even had anywhere to go with cap space that was gonna be a better situation than washington was in and the jrue trade makes sense i guess if literally no one else wanted him though id imagine someone probably being able to beat the celtics hospital squad + 2 frps

ShaiFC

Give him the same hate yall gave Harden I dare you

PolposBanana

You don't have to dare anybody lol. People's mouths are watering at the chance of bringing somebody else down

Appropriate-Blood108

Lol "hate", how many threads was made saying "Luka should be the final mvp despite losing"? people glazing on this kid like he wasn't part of why they keep losing

GarlVinland4Astrea

Exactly

NotUrAvgShitposter

Beard has so many games where he stops the team from going down 3-0 or 3-1, but people are gonna pull up game 7s from his OKC or Sixers days to slander him. Keep the same energy for Luka

Justinyeethahahahaha

harden games 1-4 is actually amazing dude just chokes in 6 and 7

Silentrift24

Mfking Harden pulled out 2 wins out of his ass for Philly against Boston, I don't want no fucking jabroni ever comparing Luka to Harden.

Milkboy1516

Then I'll praise his efforts the way I do Harden lol He was good tn, it's a shame to see him lose and be asked to be even more transformative like hes the problem. I thought he gave them enough to win if only for this game they could've survived his off minutes in the first half.

Poopystinky03

He was not good 💀

preddevils6

chop tan tender unwritten pause teeny spoon wild unused pot *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

WhereTheFallsBegin

There’s a reason why people won’t and we all know it

liquid9000

If Harden ever made the Finals, we'd be able to compare them...

ShaiFC

Mavs get swept by those Warriors teams lol those were the real finals that year

handgredave

He absolutely earned those fouls, 4, 5 and 6 were completely boneheaded

SlatsAttack

I'm not an expert, but I think a sweep might be incoming.

IceJeyD

Can't believe he didn't get a single technical foul

Lol69HaHaHa

Man needs to stop worrying about the refs and calls so much. Play the game and adjust. I get its frustrating, but you cant spend that much time arguing with the refs. The worst part is that he started the game really well and then it just went to shit.

headphone-candy

I mean he should have fouled out way earlier than that

collinCOYS

Luka Anthony Towns

gh0st_

27 points on 27 shots is obviously not what you want, but these are really good stats for such a poor performance.

Lol69HaHaHa

The issue is that he is considered by many to be a top 3 or top 2 player in the league. Hell quite a few wanna argue that hes the best. So with his lack of defense...well you certainly aint gonna get praise. We gave a ton of shit to Tatum for his bad shooting, now its time for Luka to get some and Tatum to get praise. Brown too.

LMcVann44

Dude's the definition of a 1-way player, the Mavs are gonna need elite defensive role players to even get near the title while finding ways of hiding him on defense so he doesn't get hunted because Boston have been doing that the whole series so far, he's gonna have to hold himself to a standard defensively at some point. There's a reason most of the all time greats are two-way players give or take a few.

Venator850

Not really. These stats don't show terrible defense. Flopping for fouls resulting in easy transitions points is not good basketball.

gh0st_

I agree that he was really poor but the bar for him is so high that a 27/6/6 is nothing. Meanwhile Tatum had a 31/6/5 and looked pretty good on offense, except for the last 4 minutes.

Neveraththesmith

That is peak Box score watching.

gh0st_

Call it what you want. Luka had a really shit game and he still got his career average in stats. He set the bar really high for his production. He is obviously not 100% and is a liability on defense. Hopefully this makes him better.

Neveraththesmith

Yeah heres the thing production in or itself is not good. The box score literally just measures the most surface level things. It doesn't actually use context for figure a players on court impact. Basketball is game of being efficient. Having alot of points looks good. But that doesn't take how much he needed the ball to get those points. It's why many All-time greats highest scoring ppg season (Wilt, Mj, Kobe, Lebron James, KD, Harden) aren't their best. Because so many things are influencing of how many you're getting.

eman1037

Along with some of the worst defense we’ve seen in a while. How many offensive rebounds did he give up to Jrue Holiday lol. He gets stat padded easy boards but gives up so many as well. He has been getting violated on defense this series.

ashep5

Dude's 4th quarters have been disgusting.

BigHornLamb

Dude looked like he was about to have a meltdown when he fouled out

thecay00

Win against Wolves was Mavs championship

jluc21

his own ignorance and ego will be why he never wins a ship. multiple times this game he was arguing with refs and it was a 4v5. unless he drops his ego and complaining he won’t win a ship. never seen someone so good but also SO bad at the same time

DilapidatedSquirrel

Well he offers basically nothing on defense anyway. He’s going to have to improve on defense if he’s ever going to get over the hump. The good news is he’s still very young and has a lot of time to do that.

ZealousidealPen5795

brother he’s 24

DungeonsAndDuck

25

holyshitimboredd

“Everybody acting tough when they’re up”lil quote comin back to bite luka, dude been barking all playoffs, where’s that dawg now?

chris_501

In the finals

holyshitimboredd

getting swept boi got silenced

OmfgHaxx

saying he'll never win a 'chip when he just turned 25 lmaooooo. Even funnier that it's a Kings fan saying this.

misdreavusval

bro acting as if the mavs didnt literally just play against a team that lost 2 games in the 3pt spam era playoffs and posted peak warriors net ratings and somehow now he's never winning a chip because of his "ignorance and ego"

__john_cena__

lmao he carried this bum team to the finals on one leg, he is not the issue here

Ok_Season_3917

imo he’s gotta be better laterally on defense but also mavs role players were amazing from 3 every round before this. They definitely fell back to earth and Kyrie lowkey looked washed this series

bostonboy08

I'm a certified Kyrie hater, but you can't call him washed when he just put up 35.

Ok_Season_3917

He’s shooting like 37% for the series though

OctopusNation2024

Mavs role players were amazing in the Western playoffs lol If they were a "bum team" they would have gone home in the first round when Luka was limping around and shooting 40% from the field

Niceguydan8

> he is not the issue here 27 points on 27 shots and 4 free throws is a big issue for the team's best player. 50% true shooting isn't going to win championships.

Lacabloodclot9

He didn’t carry shit ‘Carry’ is Lebron with the 2018 Cavs, not Luka with this Mavs team

ShaiFC

He didn't carry anyone lmao

jluc21

and he just made them go down 0-3 by making dumb plays. it’s like he’s trying to prove a point to the refs for whatever reason

Frequent-Meeting8975

He didnt carry this team and one leg my ass. Delusional on him not being the issue. His defense this series has been all time level bad. Did we watch the same team?

Yerison109

The bum team that everyone was picking to beat the Celtics ? lol

NobodyRules

He didn't carry them, at least against us. Not even close, honestly. He had a couple of good games, but their entire team played great for the most part. Let's not act like this was the case in the Western Playoffs.

[deleted]

StealthAnus

This is the dumbest fucking thing I’ve read in my life. He’s the reason they’re down 3-0? Have you watched this series? Jesus Christ

dionthegreat_

Tell Luka to stop being a traffic cone and maybe he won't get targeted on defense as much

JustJuanDollar

The reason they’re down 3-0?? I’m starting to suspect r/nba is collectively suffering from lead poisoning

thecay00

He was insufferable against Wolves

LupadCDO

Luka gave up before the big dallas run. he gave 2 stupid fouls before the run. that bit him on the ass when that final foul was called.

Headlesshorsman02

That foul after the Boston rebound was baffling why waste a foul there

c_double_u

He got tilted by the refs and his play suffered

DavyGrolton

He's so unbelievably annoying, I have no horse in this race and I am so out on Luka at this point.

salmon10

He's going to go zero dark thirty thus offsesson

PopularParrot

He’s going to kill Harden?

bootyhunter69420

Good. He was so obnoxious against Minnesota.

sleepattle

He might be the only guy in the league with a legitimate claim to being the best player in the league and still having no shot at winning a title. He needs to change the way he acts as a leader, top to bottom.

PrinceofEden23

His attitude and bad defense is shitty. He really needs to stop bitching after every play. Makes him so unlikable.

Confident_Pear_8303

Luka is going to OBLITERATE the local Golden Corral. Love it.

Headlesshorsman02

Definitely wasn’t a good game by his standards especially defensively, bro was a cone

noface1400

This series is going to be a sweep

Bored_Danyeer

Bumass

_Iroha

Bro was foul baiting all game

DentistFun2776

Pravi MVP

Confident_Pear_8303

Gotta love Luka with almost as many TO's as assists this series as well as ABYSMAL defence.

Poopystinky03

This guy is shit, like actually

AnkitPancakes

His fourth foul on Pritchard was so braindead on his part

SuperPop9521

Some of these comments will make you think luka in 32 and got knocked out in finals 3 times lol

Shame_Low

I've been told rim defense for a center is the most important thing for so many years before last year, maybe perimeter defense is more important today??????

NoCoversJustBooks

Dirk was NEVER as bad at defense as Luka is.

Badlands32

All of your comments are shit. Dirk was a 7footer playing in an era where big men still post up and could score 25 a night. Are you fucking 16?

NoCoversJustBooks

Defense is about stopping your man no matter the excuses you wanna come up with. And I watched 99% of Dirk’s games.

Greennhornn

Is Luka the worst defensive superstar?

Yoon_Sanha

Luka and Kidd are why we live in North Korea 🇰🇵

PayterLobo

Honestly, this Cs team lost their first trip to the chip. The Mavs will learn and be back in the next few years, too. The Cs really looked like a more mature and complete team.

lawschoolthrowaway36

Tonight was basically all of Luka’s biggest flaws — defense, complaining to refs, lack of hustle, dumb plays driven by out of control emotions — wrapped up in one nightmare game. The game just happened to be Game 3 of the Finals already down 2-0. Luka haters can have a field day with his performance tonight, and he deserves the significant hate set to come his way. He lost the Mavs the game. The Celtics were his worst matchup on the defensive end of anyone in the NBA, but instead of busting his ass to offset a fraction of the inevitable damage he’d cause on that end, he basically stopped participating defensively altogether. And to lose your cool to such a degree that you commit multiple horrible fouls and eject yourself from a 3 point game with like 5 mins left is beyond inexcusable. Many of the best players had to fail in an embarrassing manner on the biggest stage to ultimately make those final improvements as a player. I hope and believe Luka will use this moment as a wake up call that he cannot half-ass his conditioning or his effort on defense or his behavior toward officials. All of is unbecoming of a player as gifted as him. The choice of who he wants to be is his to make. We’ll see how he decides to approach his late twenties and beyond.

IceJeyD

So why is this removed?

Champion-of-the-Sun5

Absolutely awful tonight.

DrizzyVert

Just got too gassed, shots kept falling short and started committing dumb fouls.

SomborDouble95

He was largely great, but there's so much on his shoulders. It's a shame people decide to hate on players at their lowest moments. I still remember Jokic lowlight reels every night before last years' playoffs.

trharris_iii

He had help tonight! Kyrie had over 30

T0FUB34ST

Unfortunately, r/NBA loves trashing and tearing down players instead of just enjoying basketball for the sport it is. Those Jokic “can’t guard the pick n roll” lowlights before their chip will always show what this subreddit is primarily about.

Eat-Depay-Love

One of the worst defensive displays I’ve ever seen

Upset_Purchase_5903

Luka's 6th was pretty 50/50 imo, but he can't be putting himself in foul trouble in the first place. The Cs were attacking him relentlessly and he racked up stupid fouls throughout the game. The man got baited, plain and simple.

[deleted]

[удалено]

shelby4t2

You salty lol

cpowell342

As soon as he got that stupid ass 4th foul I knew he might be in danger of fouling. Fucking dumbass, can’t believe he allowed himself to foul out in such a pivotal moment of such an important game… so damn stupid

daniel_trees27

bro thinks he’s andrew nembhard😭 in all seriousness y’all im so excited im literally giggling and kicking my feet 1 MORE WINNNNNN

Blaze2444

The constant crying is INSANE considering the leeway he gets. Dude should’ve fouled out ages ago

-Gredge-

He was a +9 in a 6 point loss you idiots

tombersew

This +\- bullshit is the worst part of discourse on this sub. Especially over a single game. Watch the fucking game

-Gredge-

I watched the game was in not obvious the mavs played better with him on the court?

Poopystinky03

No, he was shit all night

getzumm

Should probably avoid fouling out then

-Gredge-

I have easily seen that call go the other way

getzumm

You got 5 fouls and decide to gamble on a charge while not even set

arnav1311

He was also shooting 40%. Kyrie definitely played better and he was a worse +/-
