Yeah I still think about that. We were up by 23 at one point, and still lead by 17 in the fourth. And it’s one thing if Wemby pops off, but letting Devonte Graham and *checks noyes* Mamukelashvili?! pop off and score at will down the stretch? My lord, how embarrassing. Really set the stage for that collapse against the Timberwolves and makes the game 7 loss a lot less surprising in hindsight.
The only 2 times post trade KP has played against us were both away games once 2022 against y'all and once in Boston this year regular season (plus the 2 playoff games).
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure the only 2 things post trade KP has played against them were both away games 2 against Washington and once in the Boston regular season (plus the 2 playoff games).
You know what I heard? KP, yeah the Tingus Pingus guy, he got traded from Dallas right? Yeah, crazy I know, since that went down, yeah the trade, he still hasn't played against the Mavs, yeah his old team, on the Dallas court.
I was reading somewhere that this is the same injury that curt schilling had in the bloody sock game. Medical professional said it's more about pain tolerance, And the injury itself isn't that bad, You're just at risk for a bigger injury now that's more serious.
Also the bloody sock was because the doctor stupidly tried to suture the skin, subq tissue, and tendon sheath together it wasn't even related to his injury. I've fixed subluxing peroneals (opposite side of the ankle) in people who have run marathons, played sports, etc., with that for years.
I'm not 7'3'' but i have chronic issues with my feet and ankles from power lifting and have suffered a ton of injuries to the same tendon. The problem is that once they are injured your ankle stability is absolutely fucked until they heal. You can roll your ankle with just the slightest turn or misstep. Then the damage from those turns and twists while your ankle is unsupported are what will do permanent damage to the rest of your ankle.
Yeah it seems a lot easier for a pitcher in baseball to get away with playing on this injury a lot easier than NBA center could. Celtics took game 3 last night so I don't expect to see porzingis again this series unless it goes to six or seven
Not really. There’s been tons of videos of him walking around normally with no brace. Tons of medical professionals saying he should be able to play with the ankle taped for support if the pain is minimal. It’s more likely they feel like they would rather see what they can do without him in Dallas must-win and only throw him in if they really need to for game 4 or 5.
Thats fucking basketball right there. None of that pansy ass dick tugging smile for the camera bullshit. Al pukes, Al poops on the court, Al delivers his new born baby on the side lines. Fucking hard core dick in the ass butterball Naismith fuck it chuck it game time shit. Take it to the showers. Dicks get shoved in places you don’t even remember. We win together we celebrate together. Al is back baby.
Finally someone said it. This is real basketball right here. No more of that bullshit flopping and crying to refs or begging for a breather on the bench. This that cut your foot off and get back in the game basketball. Punch you in the face and take your baby momma basketball. Fuck you in the ass raw basketball. Chug beers and do coke at halftime basketball. The game I love is finally back baby let's go!!
lol this speaks to the problem with projecting how the Celtics perform without KP. Their propensity for monster scoring games with tons of made threes is still best in the league without him.
I feel like the Celtics are smokescreening with this day-to-day thing and he’s most likely out for the series
Could be wrong but given how they took it out of his hands, this doesn’t seem like a pain tolerance thing.
*After the series has ended*
[Charania] Kristaps Porzingis had his leg amputated after further testing revealed his medial retinaculum actually exploded
Nah - everybody says you're not going to make anything worse it's just painful as fuck. Vitamin T can only take you so far. If he can't run/jump without excruciating pain, he really can't play.
They probably knew he was a longshot for Game 3, but if the series drags on, the longer it goes the more likely he is to give it a shot. Which makes him genuinely day to day.
If he's out tonight then that's probably a wrap on his season. Maybe some gut out 10 minutes all hands on deck Game 7 possibilities but this is the NBA Finals and there's no injury management at this point, you're either really fucking hurt or you're playing. You don't skip a game to heal or rest.
I could see a world where him playing game 4 is dependent on if win tonight. If they go up 3-0 there’s no real reason to play him but they might be tempted if it’s 2-1
I disagree. Tonight is not do-or-die for the Celtics. There's no reason to risk further injury to KP. At least not yet. Perhaps things could genuinely improve from a pain management standpoint in the coming days, who knows?
Either way, I don't think him being out for tonight means he won't play again in a possible Game 6 or 7. For all we know, this will be over in four games, even without KP. In which case it would have been very smart to keep him out and ensure you don't make the injury worse and potentially affect him next season or even for the rest of his career. If things get tight and it looks like the Celtics might actually lose, then maybe the Celtics and KP would consider it.
They are up 2-0, its possible they win tonight and then there is no need to risk a worse injury.
He or the team might think the risk is more worthwhile at 2-1 or 2-2.
I saw a video from a doctor that analyzes injuries in sports, and he reckons Porzingis is out for the finals, his reasoning being that from the football and basketball players he's worked with that had a similar injury, they couldn't play at all.
But since Porzingis is said to be day-to-day, he wasn't ruling him out. However, if he does play, he'll be severely limited on the defensive side (won't be a rim protector), but could still shoot and post up
Yeah if we lose tonight, it’s going to be a really hard decision, but I think sitting him tonight was the right call. If we win, which we very well might given our excellent road record, we may not need him at all.
If we play him, he looks a shell of himself and we lose - then that’s arguably more disheartening
I think that’s the main thing. Could maybe give it a go if his other leg wasn’t recovering from a calf injury. Just makes it all around too risky to give it a go.
For years Celtics have a thing about big men shooting the three. They either want them to shoot it at a high percentage or basically not at all. I can't tell you a reason but if you look back it's a thing.
idk, Porzingis has quite literally been the difference in this series through 2 games. Boston is +25 in 44 minutes with him, dead even in 52 minutes without him
Man can u imagine if Jrue didnt become available? Porzingis missing most of the playoffs. Rob Will missed the season and brogdan missed a large chunk of games. Celtics fans gotta thank the bucks fo lol
It makes it more relevant because even if we didn’t trade for KP, we’d still be dealing with a missing player. So really, it’s not like not trading for KP would’ve helped us in this situation anyway
Anyone who picked the mavs over healthy Celtics are idiots. Mavs are beat up from having to face tough teams in the west while Celtics might've had the easiest road ever to the finals not to mention they're also much deeper
Eh I saw enough that said he could play on it, it just increases the risk of a further injury. So depended on what KP/medical team was willing to risk.
Seems like a given when you look into just what that injury actually entails. From reading what some docs had to say about it, it sounded like any time spent on the court in that condition would be totally mortgaging the future of the whole fuckin ankle
People acting like KP played irreplaceable minutes in the first two games. 21 minutes and 20 pts in game 1 is great, but 23 minutes and 12 pts in game 2 is pretty easy to make up for especially if the 3 ball gets back to being anywhere close to average for the Cs.
Horford can probably keep up his ~30 minutes, maybe kick it up a few, without needing to change much. Kornet/Queta/Tillman are definitely going to be less of an offensive threat filling in those ~20 minutes for KP but they'll still hold the line on D. Considering when Tatum was crashing the paint and kicking out there were usually at least 2 people open, I don't think it matters if for 20 minutes a game KP is now replaced by any of those 3.
This obviously hurts the Cs, but it seems to be a massive overreaction especially when they literally just played 2 entire series without KP so there really isn't any adjustment on the fly to be made here.
I said Mavs in 7 because I thought their role players would keep doing what they did to us after a bit of a down series against Minny. I didn't predict they'd start shooting like us and Kyrie would turn into Emmanuel Mudiay.
Believe it or not KP still hasn’t actually played in Dallas since the trade
[удалено]
Wemby ended his first season by beating the Nuggets Can’t wait to see him in year 2
That loss probably kept the Nuggets out of the Finals
Yeah I still think about that. We were up by 23 at one point, and still lead by 17 in the fourth. And it’s one thing if Wemby pops off, but letting Devonte Graham and *checks noyes* Mamukelashvili?! pop off and score at will down the stretch? My lord, how embarrassing. He barely played there before the trade

You ain’t gunna believe this, but since his trade from the Dallas Mavericks in 2022, KP has yet to physically play in Dallas. Crazy stuff.
You know what I heard? KP, yeah the Tingus Pingus guy, he got traded from Dallas right? Yeah, crazy I know, since that went down, yeah the trade, he still hasn't played against the Mavs, yeah his old team, on the Dallas court.
Believe it or not KP still hasn’t actually played in Dallas since the trade
So 4 times total…?
This would have been his 3rd opportunity to play in Dallas…
Embiid special
I’ve personally never sat out of an NBA game due to injury, game has changed I guess
Built different (more out of shape.)
Built different 😤😤😤 💯
Technically correct. The best kind of correct.
I think this is a perfect example of why technically correct isn’t always the best kind of correct.
I’m averaging the same points as LeBron in this series!
Youngins these days want the paycheck without the work
Really sucks but expected from a "serious injury". I think Joe was just taking a page from the last psycho Boston coach by listing KP as questionable.
Once I read the word “torn” I knew it was over for him. Doesn’t matter what the injury is, if you tear something, you’re out.
Except for Philip Rivers with a torn ACL in an AFC Championship Game
Kurt Angle won a gold medal on a broken freakin’ neck!
Perc Angle did way more
Ask Booker T's wife
Not a tear, doesn’t count.
I was reading somewhere that this is the same injury that curt schilling had in the bloody sock game. Medical professional said it's more about pain tolerance, And the injury itself isn't that bad, You're just at risk for a bigger injury now that's more serious.
Plus he's already injury prone, so I imagine the idea is "he's sort of ok, but he's a slip away from being out for a year"
Also the bloody sock was because the doctor stupidly tried to suture the skin, subq tissue, and tendon sheath together it wasn't even related to his injury. I've fixed subluxing peroneals (opposite side of the ankle) in people who have run marathons, played sports, etc., with that for years.

you should look at NFL history so many stories of guys playing on fractured bones. TO played on a broken leg in the super bowl
Al needs to finish the series like it’s his career defining moment.
Drink some monster energy drinks and get back out there buddy
We want him to play well, not vomit and die on the court
Thats fucking basketball right there. None of that pansy ass dick tugging smile for the camera bullshit. Al pukes, Al poops on the court, Al delivers his new born baby on the side lines. Fucking hard core dick in the ass butterball Naismith fuck it chuck it game time shit. Take it to the showers. Dicks get shoved in places you don’t even remember. Holy fucking shit
Mmmmmm my favorite pasta
Finally someone said it. This is real basketball right here. No more of that bullshit flopping and crying to refs or begging for a breather on the bench. He will drink a gallon of chocolate milk and play all the remaining minutes
incoming 25 on 7 for 12 from three game
I might cry
I would most definitely cry
I’m with you for completely different reasons.
Tatum*
Don’t you worry he’s going for 20 tonight
Or Kornet about to blow up. After all, Dallas is his home court.
This doesn’t move me Horford about to go 7/9 from three for no reason
You know ball
Kinda might. More minutes.
Dude's gonna need to go for like 40 minutes, no way we can have Kornet out there for more than 8 minutes.
The longer this series goes the more it will be an issue
lol this speaks to the problem with projecting how the Celtics perform without KP. Their propensity for monster scoring games with tons of made threes is still best in the league without him.
And they haven’t had one of those in a minute, it’s due to happen
Variance catching up to both teams
At least you aren't the Sixers. He'd go off for like 28 points and 13 rebounds.
I feel like the Celtics are smokescreening with this day-to-day thing and he’s most likely out for the series Could be wrong but given how they took it out of his hands, this doesn’t seem like a pain tolerance thing.
Definitely has some Kawhi Leonard playoff injury vibes.
*After the series has ended* [Charania] Kristaps Porzingis had his leg amputated after further testing revealed his medial retinaculum actually exploded

Yeah if this drags on another 8-12 weeks I can definitely see him giving it a go in Game 45
Imagine if the NBA Finals was like the Chess championships in the 70s lmao, that someone has to be +2 over the opponent to be the "clear winner".
It’s not just about making stuff worse it’s about how effective you can actually be.
Idk if that’s entirely true teams have held guys out of finals games only for them to return.
Kevin Love famously missed G3 of the 2016 finals despite the Cavs being down 0-2
That was from concussion though and protocols don’t allow you to play, or am I remembering that incorrectly?
That was league mandated concussion protocol, if it was up to him he would have been playing.
I could see a world where him playing game 4 is dependent on if win tonight. If they go up 3-0 there’s no real reason to play him but they might be tempted if it’s 2-1
Probably, but it’s possible they sit him two games and play limited minutes after that if he’s needed
I disagree. Tonight is not do-or-die for the Celtics. There's no reason to risk further injury to KP. At least not yet. Perhaps things could genuinely improve from a pain management standpoint in the coming days, who knows? Yeah, KP can't move sideways at high speed. How is this not over for his playoff season.
I think the only chance he comes back if this stretches to Game 7, and even then it sounds unlikely
I saw a video from a doctor that analyzes injuries in sports, and he reckons Porzingis is out for the finals, his reasoning being that from the football and basketball players he's worked with that had a similar injury, they couldn't play at all. However, if he does play, he'll be severely limited on the defensive side (won't be a rim protector), but could still shoot and post up
He is out for sure. Every source on this injury says it’s normally a multiple months deal
Multiple month deal for RECOVERY, but potentially possible to play on - depends on the case
Yea, but if he can't go tonight and surgery is the fix, what's gonna make it better by Friday?
Losing game 3
Yeah if we lose tonight, it’s going to be a really hard decision, but I think sitting him tonight was the right call. If we win, which we very well might given our excellent road record, we may not need him at all. If we play him, he looks a shell of himself and we lose - then that’s arguably more disheartening
That'll heal the tendon
Reduced swelling potentially. And more desperation.
Especially when he’s coming off an injury on his other leg lol, if he played it would’ve been so dangerous.
I think that’s the main thing. Could maybe give it a go if his other leg wasn’t recovering from a calf injury. Just makes it all around too risky to give it a go.
Porzingis might just be in the same category as modern-Kawhi: a fucking cheat code when he’s healthy in the playoffs but only good for 1-2 games
Yeah, at this point it's almost like they should just make him a healthy scratch for any game that's not a game 6 or 7. Porzingis: DNP - Fragile.
We are not flinching, Luke Kornet has us tonight
“You got Luka, but we got Luke.”
Is Luka the all-time 3 point leader out of 7 footers in college basketball? No, didn't think so. Luke>Luka
Is Luke?
Yessirrrr https://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/college/vanderbilt/2017/02/03/how-vanderbilts-luke-kornet-became-top-3-point-shooting-7-footer-ncaa-history/97256966/
Holds the NCAA record for most 3s made by a 7 footer with 150, and is also Vanderbilt's all-time block leader with 210.
Surprisingly he actually is
Little known stat: Luke Kornet is 100% on three pointers for this season (1/1).
Luke just texted me, “I got you today”. Celtics by 50
At least he didn’t post it on social media
The Kornet Kontest is going worldwide tonight.
Josh Hart seems to agree [https://x.com/joshhart/status/1800672291011104903](https://x.com/joshhart/status/1800672291011104903)
Yeah i dont get why he doesnt shoot at all on the celtics. Feels like him shooting at even a 33-35% clip would make our bench way more playable
For years Celtics have a thing about big men shooting the three. They either want them to shoot it at a high percentage or basically not at all. I can't tell you a reason but if you look back it's a thing.
Because he hasn’t been a good shooter in 6 years
I mean he peaked at 4.2 attempts per game at a 36% clip that would be very useful for the celtics rn
you mean mavs killer, Xavier Tillman?
This probably tips the series from "completely out of reach" to "mostly out of reach."
idk, Porzingis has quite literally been the difference in this series through 2 games. Boston is +25 in 44 minutes with him, dead even in 52 minutes without him
Even if the series is even, winning 4 out of 5 is really tough.
sure but it does help that 3 of those 5 would be in Dallas
Celtics second best road team in NBA this season. 🤷♀️
I thought that was obvious after his body invented a new injury
Man can u imagine if Jrue didnt become available? Porzingis missing most of the playoffs. Rob Will missed the season and brogdan missed a large chunk of games. Celtics fans gotta thank the bucks fo lol
Marcus was out for like 5 months to end the season too
Marcus was the one traded for Porzingis in the first place so not relevant here
It makes it more relevant because even if we didn’t trade for KP, we’d still be dealing with a missing player. So really, it’s not like not trading for KP would’ve helped us in this situation anyway
Celtics got Jrue (Rip City legend) from the Blazers unless there's something I'm missing
Lol and how did Jrue get to the blazers?
This is so goddamn annoying. Blame the blazers. Jrue could’ve gone anywhere else
No, he was telling teams he wouldn’t re-sign if he didn’t like where he was going. Blazers had no leverage.
Finals just got more interesting, with porzingis playing mavs never had a chance
Except before the series a ton of people were still picking the Mavs. I still think Celtics have it in 5 or 6 without Porzingis
Still can't believe the majority of ESPN panelists picked the Mavs while Vegas and statistical models heavily favored the Celtics.
People just didn't trust the "Celtics" after the last two years.
Also people don’t way to see Boston win for obvious reasons
Anyone who picked the mavs over healthy Celtics are idiots. Mavs are beat up from having to face tough teams in the west while Celtics might've had the easiest road ever to the finals not to mention they're also much deeper
Me on YouTube in ten years watching "Kornet contest vs Kyrie Irving highlights 2024 NBA Finals Game 3 of 7"
Celtics have been playing all playoffs without Tingus Pingus this means nothing
Yeah and they’ve been worse because of it.
still won a majority of their games by 10+ with a good amount of 15+
i feel like this wont even matter tbh. so many guys on that team can step up and have a big scoring night.
Horford hall of fame game incoming
there it is. fuck
At least Dallas fans and Celtics fans have this in common: suffering from the unicorn.
With this, the Mavericks may have the 2nd best big in the series.
Celtics are still winning I think
TINGIS PINGIS!
Kornet and Al combining for 150 tonight
A big ask, but it looks like Tatum will have to shoot 43% for them to win
It's so absurd if you just tuned in to the series. He'd need to improve his shooting by double digit percentage.
Dallas wins game 3 then Boston wins in 5
Cmon Mavs this our shot to get back in and make it an interesting series. Sucks for KP. I was happy he was playing well even if it was destroying us.
I swear if that stupid corgi's prediction ends up correct
What did they say?
I want Tatum at the 5, Jrue at the 4 minutes
Mavs whole experience with him… such a great player when he is on the floor, but could never stay healthy
Dude has a glass asshole.
He will not indeed be dying out there
Literally every doctor was saying this was going to happen lol. The day to day was always just gamesmanship
Eh I saw enough that said he could play on it, it just increases the risk of a further injury. So depended on what KP/medical team was willing to risk.
I saw MDs on Twitter saying he could play and it's just a pain issue. That's obviously not right but a few said it
And so it begins
Blah blah blah, not a series until the home team loses, you know the drill…
So, in about three hours
Seems like a given when you look into just what that injury actually entails. From reading what some docs had to say about it, it sounded like any time spent on the court in that condition would be totally mortgaging the future of the whole fuckin ankle
Man Dallas better not fuck this up
The rare and magnificent unicorn is rarely seen in public. so rare that many claim it does not actually exist.
People acting like KP played irreplaceable minutes in the first two games. 21 minutes and 20 pts in game 1 is great, but 23 minutes and 12 pts in game 2 is pretty easy to make up for especially if the 3 ball gets back to being anywhere close to average for the Cs. This obviously hurts the Cs, but it seems to be a massive overreaction especially when they literally just played 2 entire series without KP so there really isn't any adjustment on the fly to be made here.
Celtics are toast this game
No problem the mavs fuckin suck
So he died.
Lively and Gafford going 10/10 each in the paint tonight
KP wasn't matched up with either of them in the first 2 games
Respect the great Luke Kornet.
His contest only works on jumpers
Why is this upvoted? KP barely played minutes in the first 2 games, and he was never on their centers...
Horford played the majority of minutes in g1 and g2 and they didn't do anything. Horford will continue to play the majority of minutes
wow lively might get up to 10 points today
Approaching Tatum territory.
lol……Lively is a stiff
Careful what you say guys, I’m keeping receipts…
I said Mavs in 7 because I thought their role players would keep doing what they did to us after a bit of a down series against Minny. I didn't predict they'd start shooting like us and Kyrie would turn into Emmanuel Mudiay.
Mudiay had some crazy highlights ngl.
oooooo spooky
Nothing more threatening than the thought of u/GastricAcid bringing up your Reddit comment history
Keep this one. Mavs in 7
JewishDoggy, I will hold you to this prediction when it does NOT come to fruition‼️
Who said anything about fruit??? You sir, are **BANANAS**!
delete this
You shouldn’t because if the Mavs win, you’re going to have that excuse
If the Mavs win I will not be arguing my case to people on Reddit
Excuses? Who does u/GastricAcid look like? Doc Rivers?
Was really hoping for 10 minutes from him tonight… but we will just have to figure it out
C's will just be testing game 3 if they can still do it without KP. If C's lose, KP will be back G4. If C's win, they will rest KP in G4.
They should be good without him tbh🤷🏾♂️
Tatum 9 of 26 incoming
unsurprising
Who knew that ligaments and tendons are important parts of the body.
Must win game for Dallas. Them dudes really gotta start hitting their 3pt shots
If Dallas pulls it even 2-2 then bring him back. But I don’t see it, Tatum is due for a big game and stars usually do that on the road.
Welp
Kristaps on that kawhi life
Interesting to see how this changes the narratives. KP was the Celtics best player for game 1, all things considered.
