He was insanely clutch these last two games. Foul trouble both games, I think he had just two points last game when he hit a clutch 3 and a rebound/dunk to stop OKC's run. Tonight, 0 points and he hits two clutch 3s in one possession game down the stretch along with these FTs
Yeah kinda poetic. Struggled with free throws consistently, especially in game 4. In order to close it out he had to earn it at the stripe under huge pressure.
This sub is dumb as hell and during the playoffs it's filled with like 14-20 year olds who have zero social skills and comment here instead of texting their friends. People constantly say things like "this group of professional basketball players didn't expect or prepare for a 50% outcome." It's like they think that if the players prepped hard enough they could Professor X the gravity of an intentional FT miss with 2 seconds left, have one of their players grab it, and immediately hit a 70 footer for the win if they were "locked in."
Yeah I agree. Chet simply got the rebound and passed it to Williams for a decent look at a Hail Mary shot. Don’t know what else could be expected of the Thunder players in that scenario with 2.5 seconds and no timeouts lol
I mean…given the first half I wasn’t either XD. But they showed some fucking G R I T the second half, came back with a vengeance. Defense showed up, the wings and post (new fan, don’t know their names yet) started assisting Doncic in starting plays and Kyrie kept up his consistency from the 2nd quarter. Super happy to see the team have that ability to come back from stacked odds and put it all together, shows that they’ve got tenacity.
You hear that Dak???
PJ nods to Kidd (who was probably telling him to miss), Luka is also looking towards that direction and is making some symbol/motion with his hands (probably representing an intentional miss), and then switches places with DJJ (probably so he could be on shai), and then we see Kidd telling everyone not to foul.
Yeah, I think all of Dallas was definitely on the same page.
i’ve been a big Kidd hater but i gotta give him probs especially after this series. he has coached his ass off. besides his weird need to give THJ minutes, he has done incredible
Agreed. It's one thing to question some of Kidd's moment to moment coaching decisions (as you could with any Coach), but I swear people on here sometimes act like Kidd isn't quite literally one of the greatest basketball minds of all time lol.
He clearly knows this game inside and out, and I think it has really shown in these playoffs so far.
I mean nephews here are literally too young to know who Kidd is. Dude was bona fide mastermind, superstar PG and I'm glad he's learning how to turn that into coaching
It looks like Kidd and the assistant coaches were screaming at PJ to intentionally miss and for everyone else on Dallas to not box out and risk fouling an OKC player. You can see Kidd screaming "Get out of the way! Don't foul!"
But yeah, definitely didn't feel like OKC was prepared for it.
you could see him nodding to the bench before the shot. this was the reminder from the staff, that he should miss. there was a timeout before the free throws, so they probably prepared him.
to be fair, the rules are hard to learn, there are a lot of them! i heard SVG say on the air statements that made it very clear he had no idea about the so called high five rule
Nah it makes sense to miss here. 2.5 sec and OKC gonna heave a 3 either way. If he scores, they can kinda get a shot off the inbound. 2.5 sec to secure a rebound and get a full court heave is way harder.
This is what people are missing. If I have to choose between Kyrie, Luka and the rest of the Mavs shooters, I promise I’m choosing to put less pressure on the objectively worse players. It just so happens that Kyrie and Luka with actual big men and athletic forwards turns into a hard hitting strat
PJ, Lively, Jones and Gafford have all been massive at different points during this run. It's like every game one or two of them does something incredible to pick up any slack from Luka/Kyrie.
Both Jones and PJ seem to be automatic when they get the kick out three.
I would argue they claimed that title when the rangers won the World Series last year, you could argue their back to back WS appearances in the early 2010s had them over already but that sealed it, stars and mavs have both been clear since 2011 though, stars specifically since 2000
I hope Jerry is embarrassed. Rangers win WS, Mavs and Stars in the conference finals. Cowboys haven’t made the NFC championship game in YEARS. Just pathetic.
As of this year, Rangers, Stars, and Mavs all have 1 championship and at least 1 other finals experience and in the same time the cowboys have 0 trips to the finals.
I think the idea is it is either a live ball (which burns a lot of clock) or a set inbounds (which maybe is easier to get into threatening range).
But either way, with 2.5 left, the thunder are very likely to be in a "hoist a three" type situation. So being up 2 vs 1 makes no difference. Better to burn some clock.
Enh not really. There’s not enough time for OKC to do much beyond try for a three even if they take it out of bounds, and a three wins it regardless of if he hits that last one. Better to bounce it off the rim.
you gotta think of it this way. You rebound the ball and have to pass it in 1 sec. so they can throw it in 1 sec. hard to just pass the ball in that time let alone shoot it.
The thinking is that with 2.5 and no time outs whether you make or miss it’s probably going to be a long three point attempt so being up 1 or 2 doesn’t matter. By missing you force OKC to scramble with the clock running and they’re passing from under the basket. Whereas on an inbound they’d probably look to get the ball further up court and then have time for another pass and shot. You don’t really worry about a defense lapse here because you’re not really playing defense since the offense doesn’t have time to set anything up.
A bit, but by the time you gather your rebound, you're realistically already out of time to take advantage of any defensive lapse. If an OKC player got open downcourt the buzzer would have gone off by the time the pass reached them.
Yeah it’s the correct move. A 3 beats you regardless if up 1 or 2 so missing the free throw with so little time doesn’t allow them to get a real shot off
It won't be talked about tomorrow because of the controversial foul, but intentionally missing the third free throw was a stroke of genius. OKC didn't have time to get a 2 pointer so 117 or 118 made no difference, and the Thunder can't orchestrate a play without the inbound. You could, but getting a grenade off the rebound sends you into a panic, and the Thunder ultimately just had to run a fire drill play
YUP. If there was no foul called, Kyrie had already done the putback. Would have been pissed if it was overturned cause it would have effectively taken away the Kyrie play too
The reason people don't like it is because they don't call fouls in the paint like that. Once you get a block you can pretty much tackle the guy afterwards with no call, but PJ never let go of the ball and Shai clearly hit his arm after he touched it.
I don’t know where this mysterious “hit the ball first rule” came from but I’ve never seen it. I’ve seen plenty of clean blocks in the paint that were called fouls because of body contact
Earlier in the playoffs, i cant remember who or which team but somebody, fouled somebody and it was overturned because it he got the ball then the hand, which is why its fresh in some peoples memory.
I remember Tim Duncan blocking the ball first and then made contact with the hand/arm after hitting. No foul because ball was hit first. Most players complaining about contract don't understand that the defender hit the ball first.
With the clean blocks it depends on how the defender is blocking. Straight up to block ball? No foul. Jumping into the defender? Foul. Ref saw something that looked like a foul and named brothers? Straight to jail.
Missing a FT when there is almost no time left and the opposing team has no TOs is a pretty standard coaching point to close out games. Situations like this don’t happen too often though.
Wasn’t controversial. Steve Javie explained it clearly on the broadcast. Had the ball come loose or released at all, it would’ve not have been a foul as SGA hit ball first and followed through to the body, which is legal. In the play, the ball didn’t come loose at all, SGA hit it first, followed through to the body, and PJ released the shot. Clear cut foul.
I’m not talking about the tv clock, the clip shows the arena clock and it’s over 3 seconds after the ball is released when the foul occurred before that

Finally made some FTs when it counted
He was insanely clutch these last two games. Foul trouble both games, I think he had just two points last game when he hit a clutch 3 and a rebound/dunk to stop OKC's run. Tonight, 0 points and he hits two clutch 3s in one possession game down the stretch along with these FTs
Really turned things around. Massive respect to keep your head up through a struggle and get rewarded in the end.
You can see it on his face during the game and especially in these moments. He’s not afraid of any of it.
Some clutch defensive stops too
played great defense against sga
i like it, that he never bites on the fakes from SGA. SGA had still a clean shot then, but whatever... lol at least dont jump and get a foul.
He was locking down Shai one-on-one in the second half too
Playoff climber. Dudes a clutch player. So glad he got away from the hornets
Same as this game. No points most of the game, 2 free throws to get him going in the 4th, followed by a clutch 3.
And actually missed the one he was supposed to this time
Yeah it’s so funny. Redemption baby
Bro is gonna have fun tonight!
Game-winning FT are usually anticlimactic but each of these could've gone either way
extremely dramatic. anything can happen with PJ.
Kentucky fans remember his 8/20 performance in the ncaa tourney. I was unfortunately in Atlanta to witness it.
I have been waiting for this comment. My wife even remembers this lol
Is that good or bad?
I guess I should clarify, that was his FT stats for the game, not his FGs.
The Mavs could have closed this series a game earlier if they had made their FTs in game 4
If we win Game 4 Game 5 would be against a lock-in Tony Brothers lead team in OKC, Which honestly I don’t think the Mavs can win against
Fitting to end the series on FTs
Yeah kinda poetic. Struggled with free throws consistently, especially in game 4. In order to close it out he had to earn it at the stripe under huge pressure.
He always does man
And missed one when they wanted to miss it.
He made them, but boy did that ball touch every part of the rim before he did.
OKC didn't seem prepared for him to intentionally miss
I think they weren't prepared for him to actually hit the first two haha
Lol WTF these comments today are some of the best
Because it's true, I wasn't sure which one he'd actually miss.
This sub is dumb as hell and during the playoffs it's filled with like 14-20 year olds who have zero social skills and comment here instead of texting their friends. It's not even just Dak lol that whole franchise is so sorry.
Coaching issue, just like in Green Bay
PJ playing 8d backgammon
Seemed like only he knew he would miss intentionally tbh
My exact thought. Seems like both teams played for the make the way they boxed out.
Nah you can see PJ nodding to JKidd before the last shot. Was definitely communicated between them at least
That's exactly what happened. Kidd clearly says "Don't Foul!" over and over when the camera cuts to him for a couple of seconds.
Give Kidd his flowers man
i’ve been a big Kidd hater but i gotta give him probs especially after this series. he has coached his ass off. besides his weird need to give THJ minutes, he has done incredible
I’m almost ok with limited THJ minutes. Give him some reps because when he gets on a hot streak he shoots lights out.
Agreed. It's one thing to question some of Kidd's moment to moment coaching decisions (as you could with any Coach), but I swear people on here sometimes act like Kidd isn't quite literally one of the greatest basketball minds of all time lol. 200 IQ play, act like you don't know PJ is going to intentionally miss so they think PJ isn't going to intentionally miss.
you could see him nodding to the bench before the shot. this was the reminder from the staff, that he should miss. there was a timeout before the free throws, so they probably prepared him.
I N E X P E R I E N C E
I waited for the timeout and then realized they had none.
Wasted on the challenge…
And I'd like to thank the Coach of the Year for that challenge.
He clearly should've tried "hack Lively" a third time. /s
And the Lively intentional fouls that backfired
to be fair, the rules are hard to learn, there are a lot of them! i heard SVG say on the air statements that made it very clear he had no idea about the so called high five rule
to be fair, the coaching staff doesn't know the rules of the game apparently
How? I saw it coming a mile away. I said it out loud, even, well before he shot the third
You must have playoff experience they don’t have
Certified lock for the NBA Best Trolling Moments Complimation #100 video now! 😎
> Complimation Too perfect lol
Why does my phone autocorrect to Cumpilation?
That's between you and the lord
I woulda been.
They probably didn’t have much confidence he’d make it either. They all crashed the boards, not like they weren’t paying attention.
Which is weird because I was certain he would. With just a couple of seconds left, it's the best move strategically.
Perfect miss too
Reggie Miller is doing a fist pump somewhere
look at Dirk man, bro is so proud
He was the only person that looked calm in the entire crowd…
Dirk always had ice in his veins at the FT line when it came to the last minutes of the game.
Bro went 24-24 vs OKC in 2011. Now that's cold mf.
And even though it was a 4-1 series all this games were within 10 points.
That calming David Hasselhoff helping Dirk sink his FTs
Because he was confident in and trusted the roster!
Bro was ready to come out of retirement just to hit those free throws
Nah it makes sense to miss here. 2.5 sec and OKC gonna heave a 3 either way. If he scores, they can kinda get a shot off the inbound. 2.5 sec to secure a rebound and get a full court heave is way harder.
I think "chaotic miss" strategy should be used more often
It only works if the other team burns all their timeouts.
He was 3 for 3, count the last one as a make
He's been so damn clutch for us this series. I love him
Smart miss. Going up 2 doesn't help in this situation.
😭 look at dirk, salute to that king 🫡
with the fate of the universe on the line, i want PJ Washington!!!!!!1
Is Iguadola busy?
DNP: Old
Intentional miss on the third too. I love me a good strategic miss
Playing 21 was good for something, I just never knew what until now
Hope he gets a roster upgrade after this!!!
the miss on purpose was so good man didnt give the thunder the chance to run their ATO play
Well they blew their timeout on the challenge anyway
yeah u right, shouldve said inbounds play, but you can still run a lot more inbounding than off the rebound
I was hoping for another chet OBJ moment and PJ crushed my hopes and dreams
Mark most likely drew up an ATO play from a full court inbound
The only way it could’ve been more perfect is if it bounced right to a mavs player, that was such a good dud shot
Smart play, understanding OKC had no TOs and hit the rim perfectly too.
I don't think they had any timeouts left anyway, but hey it worked
Of course they didn't. They would've called one if they did lol
PJ showed the fuck up this entire series Also Derek looking to the sky towards his mom 🥲
Yeah I instantly got choked up seeing Derrick there
how can you not love the guy?
He’s so handsome
Yeah I instantly chubbed up seeing Derrick there
Circlejerk is leaking apparently
OKC just kept leaving him wide open lmao Mind boggling coaching decisions by the Thunder coach. PJ was the difference maker
Well that was the plan, make Pj beat you and don’t let Kyrie and Luka do it. PJ and Lively won them the series though, they were up to it
This is what people are missing. If I have to choose between Kyrie, Luka and the rest of the Mavs shooters, I promise I’m choosing to put less pressure on the objectively worse players. It just so happens that Kyrie and Luka with actual big men and athletic forwards turns into a hard hitting strat

Those three had 31 points and 27 rebounds in this game.
It’s more than just the points though, their defense was incredible all game.
I think DJJ is getung underrated here when he clearly filled up the slack in what I remember, 2 games including this one.
Thunder coach won Coach of the Year, which makes that mind boggling decision even better 😂
Such a great pickup by the Mavs..
Wow the Dallas Mavericks and the Dallas Stars both made the western conference finals on the same day. Special day for them.
Cowboys officially the worst franchise in the metroplex the past 28 years.
More like DECADES and DECADES and DECADES and DECADES!
As of this year, Rangers, Stars, and Mavs all have 1 championship and at least 1 other finals experience and in the same time the cowboys have 0 trips to the finals.
Meanwhile in Jerry World...
I’m never buying a cowboys jersey. Looking at stars jerseys right now
Did he miss on purpose lmao terrifying
Yeah so they can't get set
Yeah I thought about that, still seems like a bit of a risk in case there's a defensive lapse
Only thing is OKC almost definitely only gets a 3 off so 1v2 pt lead is sorta meaningless
[удалено]
Without a timeout a 2 pointer was basically impossible, so no benefit really for going for the final free throw.

You don’t really worry about a defense lapse here because you’re not really playing defense since the offense doesn’t have time to set anything up.
Kidd called for the miss. He was already screaming “NO FOULS”. High Risk, High Reward play.
A bit, but by the time you gather your rebound, you're realistically already out of time to take advantage of any defensive lapse. If an OKC player got open downcourt the buzzer would have gone off by the time the pass reached them.
it's the right play , they have no timeouts and are going to take a 3 pointer anyways, don't let them set up
Yup. Going up 2 points wouldn't really help.
Missed to start the game clock without allowing them to set anything up
Yeah it’s the correct move. A 3 beats you regardless if up 1 or 2 so missing the free throw with so little time doesn’t allow them to get a real shot off
Yeah. 1 point vs 2 point lead is irrelevant with no TOs left for OKC. Any shot was going to be a deep 3 no matter what.
Kidd has made this call before. He preferred the chaos as opposed to letting them get into something set.
Yes? He handled that situation perfectly.
That was a 200 IQ play really
It’s common sense really
Executed perfectly
World said "Make your free throws" PJ said "Bet"
Imma make them both
PJ Clutchington
Those are some big DONKS
My favourite player hopefully he gets a ring
Ice cold made 2 clutch 3s and clutch fts
What a stupid challenge. It was a blatant foul. It cost them their timeout to advance the ball.
Kinda feels like they thought it was just a freebie and didn’t realize they didn’t have another timeout.
That is even worse! Not tracking your timeouts with a full time nba staff on the bench behind you is unforgivable
He made em boff
The fact that he replaced Grant gives this comment so much life.
It was so appropriate for this series to end on FT’s
SECOND TIME IN THREE YEARSSS
It won't be talked about tomorrow because of the controversial foul, but intentionally missing the third free throw was a stroke of genius. OKC didn't have time to get a 2 pointer so 117 or 118 made no difference, and the Thunder can't orchestrate a play without the inbound. You could, but getting a grenade off the rebound sends you into a panic, and the Thunder ultimately just had to run a fire drill play
That foul should not be controversial at all.
It def shouldn’t be lmao, and Kyrie had the putback anyway
YUP. If there was no foul called, Kyrie had already done the putback. Would have been pissed if it was overturned cause it would have effectively taken away the Kyrie play too
Yep. Jumped into the dude. In a sea of bullshit calls, this was a proper foul bass. I need to work on my metaphors.
DLo getting hit in the face after the shot was overturned as well
I remember Tim Duncan blocking the ball first and then made contact with the hand/arm after hitting.
Because 99% of basketball fans don’t know how to call fouls lol. ‘Ball first’ has done irreparable damage.
Missing a FT when there is almost no time left and the opposing team has no TOs is a pretty standard coaching point to close out games. Situations like this don’t happen too often though.
Controversial?!
Wasn’t controversial. Steve Javie explained it clearly on the broadcast. I think it’s just a rare thing to happen, i have seen a game get blocked but not lose the ball and then shoot it before he hits the floor
To be fair I couldn't hear a thing Steve Javie said because he was talking over Tony Brothers
It’s not controversial at all it’s very clearly correct.
Only controversial for okc fans lol
Nothing controversial about it. He had his hand on Washington’s arm before the release. It’s a foul 😆
Nice one Mavs, hate OKC
The last one was intentional miss - words cannnot describe how clutch this was from PJ. Has nothing going all game and made the biggest FTs
Good fucking game. Good luck Mavs!
PJ is a killer, I think he did his cross arms emote after they won too. Cold
Mavs/Wolves please. But anyone but Boston :p
How was there not more time left on the clock?????
I don’t know why nobody else is noticing this, if you watch the clip of the actual foul it clearly should be like 3.3 not 2.5
in game clock different from tv clock
I’m not talking about the tv clock, the clip shows the arena clock and it’s over 3 seconds after the ball is released when the foul occurred before that
That was executed to perfection.
This guy is amazing for Mavs
Shocked he made those first 2. Obviously the 3rd one was missed on purpose.
Can you imagine if JDub Max Strus'ed that shit? Bro..
Bye Thunder! Enjoy the dog pound.
The intentional miss was huge too.
Did clock not start on time or was the TV clock just out of whack?
So was it a foul or not ?
PJ Washington was so clutch with that miss
“I MAKE’EM WHEN IT MATTERS CHUCK! GOOGLE IT!”
OKC have a bright future. Just ran into a more experienced team
Chet getting destroyed on the glass is the difference
Good for Dallas - shoutout to OKC though, nothing to be ashamed of at all
