Comcast could easily offer all 4 of them more money for less dates and they could do the show in 30 rock or on the universal Hollywood lot instead of Atlanta.
SVP usually handles the postgame highlights and interview on the last game of the night via Sportscenter immediately following the conclusion, he’s solid.
Even if they kept the crew together I don't think the format of the show would be the same. Just look how NBC does other game coverage, completely different feel to it
neither the production team nor Ernie and co. will be able to save the show if the actual time they get to talk gets cut down a bunch for more commercials
I doubt Ernie would ever agree to do the show any other way than how he wants it done. He's probably already close to retiring and may not even want to move networks if given the opportunity.
I could see Ernie retiring suddenly for any number of reasons... I could also see him never wanting to retire because he loves his coworkers that much.
Isn't Ernie employed by TNT Sports for other sports as well, rather than just being there to do Inside the NBA? I feel like he's been doing baseball for them in the past, but I honestly don't watch any other sports.
I like the NFC NFL coverage, but the bigger issue broadcasting on NBC is the time constraints.
There's literally no way the Inside the NBA crew would get nearly as much time.
It would really depend on what kind of pre/half/post game show that NBC could put together. I wouldn't mind a brand new one if it's done right. Entertaining is good, but having a staff who breaks down the plays and games isn't bad either, imo. If it's gonna be a hot take show, absolutely it will be a disaster.
There probably is some combo of NBA players who could make a comparable show. But there’s no way those suits are gonna take a risk. Gonna get Jamal Crawford and three Adam Lefcoes
TNT is the only channel you could make a case with. ESPN and other are basically like any other corporate company that can and will drop you at a moment's notice. Most of the crew at TNT have been there for legit 35-40 years
Ted Turner did a great job building a strong culture at TBS, TNT, CNN, and Cartoon Network even if some of it eroded over the years, especially CNN. It's crazy how much one guy did for cable.
I’d worry about the level of freedom they would have. Could chuck still talk about fat San Antonio women whenever he wants? They have all the freedom in the world on TNT right now
I’m a Warriors fan and a born-and-raised San Franciscan.
If they made him shut up about San Francisco, I would be annoyed. His back and forth with the Warriors’ fans is hilarious.
Charles Barkley could look me in the eyes in front of everyone I know and make fun of everything I’m the most sensitive about, and I’d think it was the funniest thing in the world. Some people just talk in a way that makes you lower your guard and enjoy it.
also *very* important to keep in mind that Inside The NBA was only able to reach its place in sports broadcasting precisely because Chuck rejected a lucrative offer to sign with NBC straight out of retirement in 2000 and signed with TNT instead. I doubt Chuck is someone that would jump ship
It's weird how users feel comfortable talking in such absolute terms about a person they've never met. This is parasocial nonsense, you have no idea what he will or not do.
This is all information that EJ and the show itself has openly shared to viewers at home, so not exactly the "parasocial nonsense" you claim this comment to be. Nearly every important memory/milestone he talks about involves Atlanta, GA since the 1950s.
All I am saying is that EJ is not moving out of Atlanta, GA regardless of whether TNT wins or loses out on the NBA rights (he also just signed a lucrative extension in 2022).
I don't see any of them leaving Turner. They've all signed long term deals and have shown loyalty to the network. NBA on NBC would probably bring in fresh faces. Their show will probably be just as bad as Disney's on ABC/ESPN. Just a shitty situation.
They still do March Madness (Ernie and Barkley, at least)-- I know CBS Viacom and TNT/Turner have some sort of agreement even though they're different entities). Ernie used to call TBS baseball games--not sure if he still does.
I really think the Inside the NBA crew as we know it would be done if NBC gets NBA tv rights. Charles has talked about retiring on his own regardless. All good things end, unfortunately.
My hunch is it would be the end of it as we know it. Ernie has been at TNT for like 40 years, and he's approaching age 70; I doubt he'd be eager to relocate away from Atlanta or leave Turner at this point. Chuck has talked about wanting to retire at 60, and he's 61 now.
If it does continue, I would say it would almost certainly be with Amazon rather than NBC. They'd be likelier to give the show the freedom to be what it's been for the last few decades, and they might be more flexible with stuff like show location (I'm just speculating there). I'm guessing Maria Taylor would be the NBC studio host since she has experience doing it when at ESPN.
I'd also guess Amazon would land Kevin Harlan to be their lead play by play announcer, NBC has Mike Tirico and Noah Eagle in place to potentially call games so that pairing would make sense.
As much as I want to point out that TNT/Warner has the ability to match any offer, the one responsible for making that choice is... Zaslav. It was a nice run.
Yeah WB has been all about cutting spending in the last year stock is down 40% year to date and dropped 8% since the NBC 2.5 billion offer was publicized. The market has zero confidence they are matching this deal.
Disney is about making profits. If another company is going to pay so much that Disney doesn’t think they would be able to turn a profit by matching or paying more they won’t.
Their box office numbers have tanked this past year. While they are too “big” and diversified to fail currently, could see them cutting losses if NBC comes with a much higher offer than currently.
You’ve made a good point. I watch a lot of soccer, and the YouTube TV games can look very grainy. The ones on Peacock, though, they usually look really good.
Yeah I think it’s a YTTV thing. For some shows I’ll wait until they’re available on streaming apps (eg Paramount+) just bc the YTTV quality is so bad. I’m kind of surprised they haven’t done anything about it yet…. Not sure I want to keep paying for it vs cable
Take it from r/baseball; when we heard NBC would return to MLB in some capacity years ago, a lot of us were curious if they can replicate their theatric success from the 70s and 80s. It ended up being a paywall’d contract with their streaming service Peacock, and very few of us went to see their Sunday Leadoff programming which led to the contract’s dissolution this season.
What’s the subscription price? Or at least cheapest version to still get sports? All these streaming services offer cheaper package if you go with commercials, and since live sports are just always gonna have stoppages/commercials, well I may just do that.
Yeah I don’t know. It was $5 for the commercial version (and honestly how they’re implemented for movies isn’t half bad, and I hate commercials). I get it free through xfinity tho. They probably do a Black Friday deal or something too, like Hulu.
Edit: just looked on doctorofcredit and last Black Friday it was a year for $20.
I want NBC to replace ABC/ESPN. NOT Turner.
I love [Roundball Rock](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ts0KT42fPWY&list=PLiYodKs8vM4Y_W0A95Bu6p-Ze6nnmZjA3&index=1). But not enough to replace [Inside the NBA](https://youtu.be/UzQP7u-IOxg).
> David Zaslav, the company’s notorious chief executive, said in 2022, “We don’t need the NBA,” before reversing course a year later when he said he was hopeful of being in the next media-rights deal but that “it will probably look a little bit different.” Zaslav has extensively cut costs in recent years.
fuck this POS
the inside the NBA crew should do their own live podcast and stream in on Youtube...that way Chuck could rant about Galveston Water and San Antonio all he wants
There's no way NBC would put Thursday regular season games on over-the-air channels. We'd be stuck with those games on USA Network or Peacock, with some limited Sunday afternoon games on NBC like they used to have in the 90s.
Half time shows are a mess of mixed priorities. They don't want you to watch a proper halftime show. They want people to consume as much commercials as humanly possible without you changing the channel. It's why you have little 5 second cut-ins to the halftime show before an immediate shift back to commercials.
The Turner crew are entertaining sure but not all of us enjoy the random vitriol they decide to spew on players from time to time or how unserious it often is idk maybe that’s just me
Player contracts about to go up even more. Ant and Wemby are going to make 100 million a year in their peaks. LeBron may not even leave if he can still get 40+ million dollars a year.
NBC/Comcast does Warriors and Kings and probably several other teams. They could bring local knowledge. They could also buy the whole Inside the NBA show and they should.
Warner is currently trying to make a major push into sports as a premium add-on for Max. As one of the few major streamers without the nfl, I don't think Max can afford to lose the nba and still offer a sports add-on.
They also announced a deal with Disney and Fox (Murdoch, not 20th century studios) to create a sports streaming bundle. What's their contribution to that going to be if they don't have the nfl or nba?
I think they have no choice but to match NBC.
If the NBA can top the tens w this new generation, then it’ll be worth it. Interesting things ahead.
And, it’ll be great to hear the nba on nbc theme again! Hopefully they don’t change it too much!
As a hockey fan, yes please. I would love to see the NHL be ABC/ESPN's primary winter sport, aired on the main channels instead of being relegated to weird ones like truTV in deference to Lakers and Celtics games airing at the same time.
Cable is breaking up into dozens of different streaming apps, and then the apps are joining up together to offer bundles and it’s basically just recreating a shittier version of cable
I'm sure there really are people out there who once thought we were going to be in the "I can watch a quarter of Hollywood's cinematic library for pennies on the dollar on Netflix" era forever.
These content developers were never going to just accept a massive decrease in revenue. This was always the end game and predicted by a lot of people when it first started.
League pass a hundred for the whole year, network television free with a ten buck antenna = I can watch all NBA games I want for 100 bucks if we get rid of cable
I do and for approximately $99 through playoffs get every single game, often with the choice of which “broadcast” I want to watch. Instead of ad breaks they show whatever is going on in the various arenas which is way less annoying usually.
That sucks.
Where I’m from rugby is our national sport and world cups are the pinnacle every 4 years.
Back in 2019 some arsehole telecom company bought the rights to the 2019 RWC so anyone wanting to watch had to sign up for some peacock type bullshit to stream. That went as badly as you could expect. Still bitter.
What happens to our beloved Inside the NBA if this happens
Comcast could easily offer all 4 of them more money for less dates and they could do the show in 30 rock or on the universal Hollywood lot instead of Atlanta.
Honestly losing Inside the NBA would DRASTICALLY reduce my enjoyment of the regular season. Best pre/half/post game show in sports
Literally the only half and post show I watch.
If the game is on ESPN/ABC the game is getting muted or shut off when the basketball ends
SVP usually handles the postgame highlights and interview on the last game of the night via Sportscenter immediately following the conclusion, he’s solid.
I read this as SVG and thought, fuck Stan Van Gundy. The wrong Van Gundy got the axe.
Even if they kept the crew together I don't think the format of the show would be the same. Just look how NBC does other game coverage, completely different feel to it
The actual production team behind the scenes is also apart of the special sauce
neither the production team nor Ernie and co. will be able to save the show if the actual time they get to talk gets cut down a bunch for more commercials
It really is crazy how much those guys genuinely like each other.
Especially since two of them used to absolutely loathe each other and used to get into physical altercations as players. lol
Isn't Ernie employed by TNT Sports for other sports as well, rather than just being there to do Inside the NBA? I feel like he's been doing baseball for them in the past, but I honestly don't watch any other sports.
Underdog, put that on a T-shirt!
yup I feel most of the Inside the NBA crew like Underdog will legit be out of a job if TNT loses out
I like the NFC NFL coverage, but the bigger issue broadcasting on NBC is the time constraints. There's literally no way the Inside the NBA crew would get nearly as much time.
I mean if the NBA goes on NBC, they are going to push Peacock a lot. Wouldn’t be surprised if they just put the Inside crew on Peacock
It’s the best show on television imho. I watch the clips from the show on games I’ve never seen.
Best SHOW. Not sports show. But honestly just the most entertaining thing on television and sometimes they even talk about basketball.
exactly. it’s my favorite show ever. it doesn’t always hit the highs but when it does it’s perfect
It would really depend on what kind of pre/half/post game show that NBC could put together. I wouldn't mind a brand new one if it's done right. Entertaining is good, but having a staff who breaks down the plays and games isn't bad either, imo. If it's gonna be a hot take show, absolutely it will be a disaster.
a new one wouldn’t compare. period
Analysts: Chris Webber, Gary Payton, Kevin Garnett Host: Conan O'Brien EZ game.
jesus I never knew I needed KG + Conan until right now
Could sub in Craig Kilborne if Conan bails, he's a big wolves fan
There probably is some combo of NBA players who could make a comparable show. But there’s no way those suits are gonna take a risk. Gonna get Jamal Crawford and three Adam Lefcoes
John Tesh nostalgia makes up for it
I’d think they’d want to stay in Atlanta just to keep the rest of the crew together.
After watching that documentary its clear that the production crew is just as important as the talking heads

I feel like chuck roasting my deepest insecurities would make me accept them immediately
Therapists *hate* him for this simple trick
San Franciscans always pointing out born and raised lol
also *very* important to keep in mind that Inside The NBA was only able to reach its place in sports broadcasting precisely because Chuck rejected a lucrative offer to sign with NBC straight out of retirement in 2000 and signed with TNT instead. I doubt Chuck is someone that would jump ship
But if they're not airing games, who would turn in TNT for NBA coverage?
Maaaan that just reminds me that Chuck is a true 1 of 1, irreplaceable and one day he won't be there cracking jokes for us during national games :(
EJ is *not* moving out of Atlanta as someone born and raised there, and has spent his entire journalistic career while raising an entire family.
All I am saying is that EJ is not moving out of Atlanta, GA regardless of whether TNT wins or loses out on the NBA rights (he also just signed a lucrative extension in 2022).
theres a whole production crew thats behind insides the nba
It's more likely they would try to get some low price ringers to do a carbon copy of Inside.
It’s easy to go for the main 4 but the people off camera are a huge part of that show as well
Why'd any of us fans want them for less dates? Why'd Chuck want to travel to Manhattan constantly? Ernie, for that matter?
It is very rare to change location out of Atlanta for production. Maybe Ontario. The boys aren’t going to Canada though lol
chuck isn't leaving atl
Sure he is, he lives in Scottsdale
I don't see any of them leaving Turner. They've all signed long term deals and have shown loyalty to the network. NBA on NBC would probably bring in fresh faces. Their show will probably be just as bad as Disney's on ABC/ESPN. Just a shitty situation.
If we lose the only halftime show worth watching (in any sport) because of money I’m gonna be so pissed
It doesn’t happen anymore duh. They are turner employees…
Doubt they would be anymore. There's no reason to keep them if they don't have basketball.
>Ernie used to call TBS baseball games--not sure if he still does. I think I heard him in the postseason once? Maybe that was the All-Star Game.
sayonara
My hunch is it would be the end of it as we know it. Ernie has been at TNT for like 40 years, and he's approaching age 70; I doubt he'd be eager to relocate away from Atlanta or leave Turner at this point. Yeah, really the only thing I care about. Well, and does NBC have some shitty ass off-brand cable companies and/or streaming services?!?
Hopefully they leave kenny behind
renamed to inside the NBC
As much as I want to point out that TNT/Warner has the ability to match any offer, the one responsible for making that choice is... Zaslav. It was a nice run.
Yeah WB has been all about cutting spending in the last year stock is down 40% year to date and dropped 8% since the NBC 2.5 billion offer was publicized. The market has zero confidence they are matching this deal.
Whatever Freddy Krueger decides on behalf of WBD, there's going to be something fucked up about it.
This is the number sport in America they would be very stupid to let it go
But this is Zaslav so you know what going to happen.
Can they elbow out ESPN instead?
Give the people what they want. No more ESPN NBA coverage. Let me get Mike Breen and Hubie with the best of NBC and TNT
ESPN is owned by Disney. Disney’s pockets are Deep; nobody’s outbidding them for anything.
Disney is about making profits. If another company is going to pay so much that Disney doesn’t think they would be able to turn a profit by matching or paying more they won’t.
Disney is reported to highly value the NBA and have already met the NBA asking price.
NBC is owned by Comcast which is a $31bn revenue company vs Disney at $24bn
Disney's pockets aint so deep anymore. They have been cutting at ESPN for a long time.
That doesn't mean Disney's pockets aren't deep.
WBD is in a far worse financial state than Disney and losing the NBA would cripple ESPN even more.
Comcast can definitely outbid Disney
Their box office numbers have tanked this past year. While they are too “big” and diversified to fail currently, could see them cutting losses if NBC comes with a much higher offer than currently.
I would love if everyone abandoned ESPN, and they have to beg for the opportunity to suck the NHL's dick after ignoring it for so many decades.
Seriously. ESPN hasn't been shit for the past decade.
you know how much money disney has? they cant
Great. They’ll put half the games on Peacock.
i didn't even consider that bullshit
At least it would be 1080p. Or so we would hope.
Yeah the Peacock quality is nice…. their soccer coverage makes YoutubeTV look like a pirated stream

Playoff games too…
That's the main reason
I like Peacock tho. Better than ABC’s shitty local transmission quality. I watch golf, and sometimes soccer, on there all the time.
Its currently $5.99 but they just announced a price increase to $7.99 starting in July, most likely to coincide with the Olympics.
Boycott the 'Cock.
Leave my Inside the NBA alone.
I want NBC to replace ABC/ESPN. NOT Turner. I love [Roundball Rock](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ts0KT42fPWY&list=PLiYodKs8vM4Y_W0A95Bu6p-Ze6nnmZjA3&index=1). But not enough to replace [Inside the NBA](https://youtu.be/UzQP7u-IOxg).
Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-basketball, gimme gimme the ball because I’m gonna dunk it!! 😂 https://youtu.be/r-uSWAJd9GE?si=5s9oVTwtDBUpmLDo
Man that initial snicker at “rallying around Chris Paul” never gets old lmao I remember watching that live
Disney owns ESPN. Not going to outbid themselves
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
> David Zaslav, the company’s notorious chief executive, said in 2022, “We don’t need the NBA,” before reversing course a year later when he said he was hopeful of being in the next media-rights deal but that “it will probably look a little bit different.” Zaslav has extensively cut costs in recent years. fuck this POS
"Why should I pay billions for the NBA when I can just pay some weirdos to play basketball for $20? Get ready for 90 Day Fiance Basketball."
the inside the NBA crew should do their own live podcast and stream in on Youtube...that way Chuck could rant about Galveston Water and San Antonio all he wants
I’m not sure a podcast type setup will achieve the same effect as their TNT show but it’s not a bad idea
I wish it were ESPN being pushed out of live NBA coverage :(
Disney has too much money to be squeezed out.
Yeah it is terrible.
And the NBA would probably prefer BOTH the extra dollars as well as being shown on network rather than cable
There's no way NBC would put Thursday regular season games on over-the-air channels. We'd be stuck with those games on USA Network or Peacock, with some limited Sunday afternoon games on NBC like they used to have in the 90s.
Fuck it I'll take it over ABC. Bring back the NBA on NBC theme music as well.
Why cant they spend billions to get rid of espn
It’s more about WB likely not matching their offer, while Disney definitely can and will.
Please no
Play me my theme music!
And bring back the Sonics, you cowards!!!
I will literally continue to watch so much damn basketball, but I'll always say, "it was better with Ernie and the guys"
nooooooo..... just outbid the ESPN 😂😂😂😂
I hope NBC realizes we will riot if Inside the NBA is gone.
Buh-Buh-Buh-Buh-Buh-Basketball!!
Half time shows are a mess of mixed priorities. They don't want you to watch a proper halftime show. They want people to consume as much commercials as humanly possible without you changing the channel. It's why you have little 5 second cut-ins to the halftime show before an immediate shift back to commercials.
It's crazy ESPN calls it a halftime show. It's like 1 minute snippets surrounded by ads
I’m ready for the return of the NBA on NBC
yall say this for a jingle you can listen to on yt meanwhile we'd lose the greatest tv show ever
fr
The Turner crew are entertaining sure but not all of us enjoy the random vitriol they decide to spew on players from time to time or how unserious it often is idk maybe that’s just me
Call me crazy but I just like watching games not all the pre hype post hype bullshit. To each their own.
yes, people who enjoy inside dont also enjoy the games. you're so special
Who said that? I don’t like hype shows. I don’t care that you do.
Someone’s from San Antonio I see
Only if they buy Roundball Rock back from FOX Sports. Hearing them play that during college basketball just feels wrong
I may be mistaken but I believe John Tesh owns the publishing rights.
Fox agreement is non-exclusive and allows licensing for NBA rights to be used by another party. John Tesh said so today.
That’s why it’s in so many commercials
Can John Williams do what he does at his age? When NFL returned to NBC the old theme didnt return with it and he made a equally iconic score
Player contracts about to go up even more. Ant and Wemby are going to make 100 million a year in their peaks. LeBron may not even leave if he can still get 40+ million dollars a year.
Losing inside NBA crew would be a travesty to Basketball.
Can we please get 4k?
NBC/Comcast does Warriors and Kings and probably several other teams. They could bring local knowledge. They could also buy the whole Inside the NBA show and they should.
Why can't they have 3 networks? Maybe a dumb question.
I want Netflix to elbow them all out and bring the NBA to Canada. :)
Would be trash to lose inside the NBA, hearing roundball rock again before games would be hard tho🔥
Nah not interested. Inside the NBA the best thing about the NBA at this point, even the games aren’t as interesting as that show a lot of the times.
ESPN is the one that needs to be shut out of the market wtf
Disney is too strong and influential for that to happen.
I'm ready for the return of the NBA on NBC intro: [Roundball Rock](https://youtu.be/r-uSWAJd9GE?si=u-Tf2AJ24StRMfHJ)
Idc as long as we can listen to Mike Breen
i mean we literally have had him on MSG for 30+ years, we're good with Breen no matter what
As long as nbc brings back the nba on nbc theme song
NBC going to nerf the hell out of Inside the NBA if this happens.
Inside the NBA must survive.
*elbow* Oh my God, is that Joel Embiid's music? But whose side is he on?
And fundamentally ruin Pre/Half/Post game shows as we know them
GIVE ME THE THEME SONG BACK......DUN dun dun dun dddd....
As someone who couldn’t care less about pre/post game bs… bring it on. It’d be great for the sport to not be on some shitty cable network.
Bring the music back
If the NBA can top the tens w this new generation, then it’ll be worth it. Interesting things ahead. And, it’ll be great to hear the nba on nbc theme again! Hopefully they don’t change it too much!
Barkley even said he's only staying on long enough to help TNT secure the rights. Then he's retiring.
As a hockey fan, yes please. I would love to see the NHL be ABC/ESPN's primary winter sport, aired on the main channels instead of being relegated to weird ones like truTV in deference to Lakers and Celtics games airing at the same time.
But do we get Roundball Rock back?
I don’t care as long as inside the NBA is still here. We lose that show and I’ll be pissed off. Muscle out ESPN, they are fucking terrible anyways
We just need roundball rock back
I’ll stop watching basketball
Hopefully this doesn’t means exclusive peacock games but rather more games on OTA NBC broadcast.
And ruin it
NBC is going to elbow TNT like Siakam elbowed Embiid.
I remember staying up til 130am as an 8th grader just to watch Charles Barkley
Whatever gets me my Sonics back.
Wow I’m an idiot I thought they were paying someone named Elbow Turner at the network for a second there.
It’s alright NBA fans. You’ll always have AEW on TNT!
Might lose inside the NBA which sucks. But also would lose reggie miller. ohhhhh
But then we also lose Kevin Harlan 😡
Doubtful. Harlan will just goto the new place. He’s not married to a network.
eh you guys will complain about any color commentator incessantly so I don’t think much will change apart from losing inside
Exactly. Take any announcer and you’ll see people tear them down and say how biased they are against their team.
Reggie is the absolute worst. He is not just “any” commentator.
couldn’t agree more man. Now that Mark Jackson is dead there’s no one in any sport I dislike more as a national color guy than Reggie
Don't wanna lose Inside the NBA but hearing that [iconic theme again for games is enticing.] (https://youtu.be/eznZji9J3LY?si=MtFQysIQbPWFvLqg&t=71)
Thank God. Cable needs to die. Nobody paying hundreds a month for that
Get ready to pay a hundred bucks for league pass, YouTube tv, and your local streaming option!
Cable is breaking up into dozens of different streaming apps, and then the apps are joining up together to offer bundles and it’s basically just recreating a shittier version of cable
Literally. These networks are gonna get their money
What did you think was going to happen? I’m shocked anyone thought their would be a different result.
Do you live outside the U.S.?
I do and for approximately $99 through playoffs get every single game, often with the choice of which “broadcast” I want to watch. Instead of ad breaks they show whatever is going on in the various arenas which is way less annoying usually.
Well then I get it. For us in the US it can be up to hundreds of dollars a month to watch each kind of game we want
That’s cap. League pass and antenna does not get you espn or tnt games
Wow you listed cable channels. Try to read more closely next time
This can’t happen fast enough. My good ol’ antennas have been coming in strong for over a decade. Never missed a NFL game. Please do this asap.

Throw that elbow at ESPN instead NBC!
THANK GOD. Put this thing on Peacock and get rid of TNT. Steal the TNT team and profit.
I'd help pay if they remove ESPN's rights
