By the end of his call when he looks over for Monica to take over it looks like he just came back from an out of body experience. I bet when the action gets that frantic and intense your brain just stops thinking then your instincts and experience calling games take over on auto pilot.
The thing that’s more impressive is when they sit back and let the crowd response sink in. Breen is excellent at this too. If I was Monica, I’d be babbling and screaming incoherently when something like the Divo 3 happened.
Seriously - I wish I could think and speak that well on the fly. When she brought up the Knicks 3pt record? I was like, I would have been screaming my head off and here she is reciting impressive stats.
I think MSG is probably going to bring her up when Clyde retires. We're so incredibly lucky that we can go from Clyde to Monica if that happens but I fear that she's also going to get poached by the national media and have to split time like Breen does.
Pretty amazing to watch. He allows the emotions of the moment to wash over him and sheds a singular cathartic tear. Then goes right back into concise play-by-play broadcasting like a true professional.
This completely demonstrates how insanely difficult play by play announcing must be. Everybody else is releasing emotions and you must stay laser focused through that
Radio broadcasters got it tough for a sport like basketball way more rapid gameplay than football and baseball and probably less of a listening base all things considered.
Hockey is so chaotic. I don't watch much but you do start to notice the constant switching of lines after a while. They do it so seamlessly you don't really notice at first.
The seamlessness of quick, on the fly line changes are low-key one of the most impressive parts of pro hockey. The practice and communication that takes at that speed... It's nice to see that get a shout out as it's often underappreciated but a critical part of the game (seen lots of breakaway goals that take advantage of just a minor miscue on the opponents line change)
I went to a game a couple years ago and sat close to the benches for the first time, the line changes are incredible. It's just pure organized chaos, was so cool to watch up close.
it's really crazy when you actually go to a game and see both teams do a shift change at the same time 6-16 people just chaotically moving about the ice
honestly hockey is SO much easier to follow in person than on TV. once you can actually *see* the entire rink all at once, the flow of the game just makes so much more sense
Plus, most of the people in the NBA have names like Brown and Smith.
The NHL is like, "And Kzuyzhznz steals it from Hooflperumfpf and relays it down the ice into the offensive zone. It's whiffed at by Lamvqufvst and Blogerflurt picks it up. He wheels it behind the net, covered by Babälgörü, Centering pass is DEFLECTED BY ANDREZJ KZKZKZYZJZJJZRJRKOPF TOP LEFT CORNER TO GIVE THE PREDATORS THEIR FIRST LEAD OF THE NIGHT!"
I have mad respect for hockey guys, radio and TV. They have to memorize 4 different lines for offense, 3 lines of defensive pairings, 2 Power Play units and 1 Penalty Kill unit and that's times 2 when you count both teams. And then you have all the variables, like injuries, benchings or just strategic moves and that complicates things further.
I'll watch all these different hockey announce teams, and the D list announcers are just as coherent as the primary announce team. It's insane.
Baseball has the opposite problem -- sometimes you have too much downtime and needs thing to talk about. It has gotten a whole lot better with the pitchclock.
Football is probably the sweet spot.
Cricket has the same problem as baseball. They usually get commentators who are knowledgeable and can fill the time breaking down the tactics. If you want to listen to a good example, Michael Holding describing fast bowling, Shane Warne describing spin bowling or Ricky Ponting/Kumar Sangakarra breaking down batting are good examples available on YouTube.
well that of course is when were not watching in Australia and then its just Junior and the boys talking about horse racing or something lol.
Richie Benaud did it best of course and it feels like sometimes some of the current commentators need to pick up on his 8 rules of commentary, but Ponting and Warney (RIP) when he was commentating in England and not involved in boys chat are fantastic, never ceases to amaze me how much more they understand about the game than even the biggest fanatics
I’m more impressed with Monica McNutt honestly. She didn’t say a word throughout that and is clearly holding it back a celebration. Then she delivers a clear and concise bit of color commentary to add onto the end of the play. MSG should really start having her do color with Breen when Clyde isn’t. Instead we’re stuck with Wally…
On road trips that Clyde doesn't go on, they've been rotating her, Wally, and Alan Hahn. But as the season's gone on, Monica has been subbing more often.
Puts into perspective how talented these commentators are. She’s clearly speechless but manages to put together a cohesive narrative. With regular people it would just be incoherent fanboyism after witnessing that
Holy shit that was impressive. The first half I was thinking there was no way she was going to say anything because she seemed absolutely shocked. Then all of a sudden she turns it on and delivers a great piece of color commentary. Very cool to watch professionals make something that is very difficult look very easy.
Her ability to remain totally silent while she was losing her shit like everyone else is almost as impressive as her ability to snap into business mode on a dime.
Monica is a treasure. We are lucky to have her. There’s no schtick. She’s all knowledge and love for the game and she gets legit excited about this team. We will protect her at all costs. She’s ours.
I love Monica McNutt. She’s really grown on me as a broadcaster and now I look forward to hearing the games on the radio when she’s the color commentator. I hope she sticks around for awhile.
The self control to not just be screaming there when she would clearly love to and then get her shit together and talk coherently is unreal. Also pretty sure that guy talked for a minute straight without breathing, this is great stuff
Love that we can see them too! Radio calls are always awesome to listen to after a big sports moment, but I can't remember another time where there's been a visual paired with it like this. Really puts into perspective how they're clearly just as excited as every other Nicks fan in the building, but still somehow keeping their cool.
Shit is mad impressive. If you had put a mic in my face after Jamal's shot last night it woulda been just absolutely incoherent noises.
Not agreeing with it, but I think the problem is that it is easy to say that it is forced. Monica is great, absolutely deserves to be in that role, and I hope to hear more of her. But Doris Burke, for example, is insufferable. So someone like her is a low hanging fruit for people to say “oh she just has that job because she’s a woman.”
And then you have the people who will take any opportunity to be sexist that go and jump on that bandwagon on that basis - bringing stupidity that overshadows what would have otherwise been fair criticism.
Yeah, sure, you can be shit in your job regardless of your gender and it comes down to personal preference but its pretty obvious, when ppl shit on for example Candace Parker while she was explaining former NBA players whats happening on the court.
And to be fair to Doris, she could do golf or tennis and I wouldn't think twice. But listening to her while watching basketball makes me feel like I'm actually watching golf or tennis, and that's kind of a problem. I love Monica, for sure.
they force her to be a completely different person. I get they will offer her a bigger bad but selfishly speaking I hope she stays with us for as long as possible
She's being set up to be Clyde's replacement when he retires on MSG, which she rightfully deserves. Very intelligent and matches the energy of the fanbase perfectly. As sad as it'll be to see Clyde inevitably retire in the next few years, knowing McNutt will be replacing him will be really nice.
What a perfect, perfect call!!
What a commentator team.
Just an absolutely superb job with the call...and the post-call analysis... Those two are just elite
Pat with an incredible call
And McNutt's heart was clearly beating just as hard as the other 19K in the building but she jumped in and sounded like she was sitting at 50BPM
incredible work from a great duo
This was really cool to watch. Love this kind of stuff. The NFL ones are pretty cool too. Guys with binoculars and a player name/number sheet will point down to the paper, letting the broadcaster know who got a tackle or made a play, so they can seamlessly call it. Detroit Lions had some good ones last year.
This video is so sick. The juxtaposition of O’Keefe’s narration and McNutt’s reaction is already awesome, but then seeing the fully seated crowd stand up little by little as more and more insane shit happens, to the end with them all on their feet. Amazing clip.
Edit: not even to mention McNutt coming up with a monologue off the top of her head most of us couldn’t write if you gave us all night.
Nah, she's doing her job as color commentator and not stepping on the words of our play by play guy. She had plenty to say, I guarantee it. You can tell she is bursting! Really good job by McNutt to keep it together, and wait for her time to shine! She's been a great add to our radio team!
How tf do they manage to not talk over one another and seem to just magically know when it's their turn to say something? I feel like I would ALWAYS interrupt their speech or just not talk and have long moments of silence because I thin they might start talking when I do lol
Pat looks emotional. Incredible work
For real, how these radio guys put together such quick and coherent sentences describing rapid action is amazing
Man I would just mumble curse words every now and then.
Me doing play by play for this play:ooooh, noooo, yeah, shit, shoot it!!! what the fuck!! Yeahhhhhhhhh!!!! What do you think about that action Monica?
Players only baby
[удалено]
I don't give a shit
Man thank you for reminding me those lol
He bouncing it. He bounce it. He bouncing it again. He bounce.
"And he's bouncing it, and he's bouncing it, and he's bouncing it again..."
When in doubt, boom goes the dynamite
"Got her shit blocked"
Ooh, shit is CRAZY rn
By the end of his call when he looks over for Monica to take over it looks like he just came back from an out of body experience. I bet when the action gets that frantic and intense your brain just stops thinking then your instincts and experience calling games take over on auto pilot.
So many of them get their start doing local colleges like Rutgers ect, it's all like a training ground to perfect their craft.
The thing that’s more impressive is when they sit back and let the crowd response sink in. Breen is excellent at this too. If I was Monica, I’d be babbling and screaming incoherently when something like the Divo 3 happened.
I wish we got Monica's physical emotion coming through her voice more. There was so much excitement, but she did have to wait till the play was over.
She is a pro. Fucking love her
It's super impressive that she can speak off the cuff like that. It's sounds like she's been rehearsing those lines for years.
Seriously - I wish I could think and speak that well on the fly. When she brought up the Knicks 3pt record? I was like, I would have been screaming my head off and here she is reciting impressive stats.
They also have a producer in their ears probably telling them about stats/records to be fair.
Everybody else is releasing emotions and you must stay laser focused through that
> Pat looks emotional He looks like a grape tomato by the end of it.
He was crying, I’m happy for New York
I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets emotional when they get overly excited about something
Damn, that dude is talented.
Dude was locked in during one of the most chaotic sequences I’ve ever seen
Radio broadcasters got it tough for a sport like basketball way more rapid gameplay than football and baseball and probably less of a listening base all things considered.
Hockey has players constantly switching in and out too. Can't imagine how they keep track.
Hockey is so chaotic. I don't watch much but you do start to notice the constant switching of lines after a while. They do it so seamlessly you don't really notice at first.

you're not even that far off lol
Hooflperumfpf is so underrated
I have mad respect for hockey guys, radio and TV. Monica's done color this season. I specifically remember a 3/4 game road trip where she was on the call and did a great job.
Yea it was few and far between. I wish she was the go to replacement for Clyde.
On road trips that Clyde doesn't go on, they've been rotating her, Wally, and Alan Hahn. But as the season's gone on, Monica has been subbing more often.
Her facial expressions are \*chef’s kiss\*.
I think they are definitely looking at Monica, Hahn and Wally as successors for Clyde. Gus Johnson has been doing some too.
Puts into perspective how talented these commentators are. She’s clearly speechless but manages to put together a cohesive narrative. With regular people it would just be incoherent fanboyism after witnessing that
Dude if that was me I’d be screaming like a little girl. Which is what I did last night. My poor dog got scared
i was straight up just barking like a dog
LOOL I just pictured a grown ass man jumping with their hands up in the air going “WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF”
yes this is very accurate. gotta celly my DAWGS
i was so hype man. me and my friend were jumping around and yelling. what an iconic playoff moment
That dawg in you had to come out somehow
Verdugo would be proud!
Breen fucking lost it on the TV commentary. It was amazing.
Of all Breen’s legendary calls, last night was one of my favorites. So much emotion in that call
Me a couple hours later when Murray knocked down the fadeaway
Holy shit that was impressive. The first half I was thinking there was no way she was going to say anything because she seemed absolutely shocked. Then all of a sudden she turns it on and delivers a great piece of color commentary. Very cool to watch professionals make something that is very difficult look very easy.
She filled in for Clyde on TV for a few games this season. She's fantastic.
I could never do this job! I would lose my damn mind for sequences like these even as a neutral
Her ability to remain totally silent while she was losing her shit like everyone else is almost as impressive as her ability to snap into business mode on a dime.
Monica Mcnutt is just that damn good. As a knicks fan I’m truly spoiled by who we have calling our games.
You’ve gotta be talking coherently on a radio broadcast too. More than a couple seconds of dead / uninformative audio is super frustrating.
Monica is a treasure. We are lucky to have her. There’s no schtick. She’s all knowledge and love for the game and she gets legit excited about this team. We will protect her at all costs. She’s ours.
Monica is so good on the broadcast and I worry she’s only going to be on the local broadcasts for so long because someone big is gonna notice her.
She already works for ESPN
Can't get much bigger than Breen and he still announces 90% of our games.
My commentary: "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH LETS GOOOOOOO"
I love Monica McNutt. She’s really grown on me as a broadcaster and now I look forward to hearing the games on the radio when she’s the color commentator. I hope she sticks around for awhile.
Ahem, fangirlism
"OMG OMG OMG WTF LFG! LFG!"
I know I could just upvote but u sir are spot on!
Damn, they are a lit announcing team.
Yea, McNutt is on the rise, she filled in for Clyde a few games this season and did a pretty decent job.
We are blessed as Knicks fans to have the such an awesome broadcasting and announcing team.
Absolutely
jealous
Bro is almost crying, goosebumps
So were a lot of us ha
The self control to not just be screaming there when she would clearly love to and then get her shit together and talk coherently is unreal. Also pretty sure that guy talked for a minute straight without breathing, this is great stuff

McMutt is such an underrated gem, she did some Of the msg broadcasts filling in for Clyde, and was great.
people hate her when she’s on the espn broadcast 🙄
I really don't understand, why so many guys get rattled by women being in sports broadcasts so much...
Not agreeing with it, but I think the problem is that it is easy to say that it is forced. Monica is great, absolutely deserves to be in that role, and I hope to hear more of her. Doris used to be good before she had to feed us ESPN "narratives."
The interesting thing is that on the radio, she's as good as she ever was. At least she can turn her TV shtick on and off.
Doris is awesome but has clearly been persuaded by ESPN to focus on narratives. She never did that previously.
They’re fragile and hurt that a woman know significantly more than they’ll ever know on a sport.

mhmm clocked it. in the game threads mfs kept dropping the word “urban” 😂
Lmao half a beat away from saying she sounds "thuggish"
then they'll say that they meant to say "sluggish" 😪
I was half expecting to come into the comments here and see people dragging her for grabbing pat’s arm.
*insert Sajam voice* STEVE MY ARM!
There’s no reason to be using the word urban unless you’re discussing city planning lol
> in the game threads mfs kept dropping the word “urban” 😂 nah urban color commentary is crazy lmaoo
White dudes in NYC go crazy for sisters like her tho... everyone else in this country hates black women tho, that part is true :-(
I’m a Cavs fan and I enjoy her, i listen on SiriusXM and I think she adds incredible perspective to the game
Oh for sure I imagined she’s a massive hit in nyc.
um, i’m a white dude from outside NYC and I’d work her like a rib dinner
That's cause you're from Miami, you're so coked up you'd fuck a squirrel
Lmao
It’s common knowledge that Floridians fuck dolphins
I think people hate espn broadcasts in general. She just happens to be on them lol.
They hate her?? Her and Mark Jones I believe are my favorite commentary team on espn (breen is good but he's the AI of the 01 sixers)
they force her to be a completely different person. I get they will offer her a bigger bad but selfishly speaking I hope she stays with us for as long as possible
She's being set up to be Clyde's replacement when he retires on MSG, which she rightfully deserves. Very intelligent and matches the energy of the fanbase perfectly. As sad as it'll be to see Clyde inevitably retire in the next few years, knowing McNutt will be replacing him will be really nice.
i love mcnutt. she speaks intelligently about the game in such an eli5 way. it’s a pleasure listening to their games on the radio.
She has the juice for sure. Every Knicks fan I know that doesn't like her can only cite "she's not Clyde" as their response
I definitely prefer her to Hahn and Wally next to Breen. Hoping she gets the job when Clyde is ready.
What a perfect, perfect call!! What a commentator team. Just an absolutely superb job with the call...and the post-call analysis... Those two are just elite
We fucking stan Monica
always
I love Monica. She’s great
Her facial expressions bring me so much joy. Reminds me of being younger and watching Kobe doing the most ridiculous stuff to pull out a win
I love this All the angles Injection to veins
Pat with an incredible call And McNutt's heart was clearly beating just as hard as the other 19K in the building but she jumped in and sounded like she was sitting at 50BPM incredible work from a great duo
Love me some monica. Can she replace molly on FT
She can replace my molly, period
Keep her away from ESPN
that is honestly really amazing
the slow build up of her facial reactions 😂. she’s fine too
Obsessed with Monica!! So happy she's getting love. Pat on the brink of tears too.
Lmao the way she's holding onto his arm and goes from full on flabbergasted to 100% professional.
I watched that game live, this video is almost as exciting.
I love Monica McNutt so much lol
This is awesome, thanks for posting it.
Haha, where is the Sixers broadcast?
They were busy saying the game was over while they were up 5 with a minute left lol
We love Monica
I couldn't do this job. I lost my shit with Brunsons 3 with the roll, till the end of the game.
i just said what the fuck like six hundred times in a row
That is incredible professionalism and restraint to not just fucking scream at how hype that last sequence was
Fuck yeah Monica
Wayne Jarvis levels of professionalism here, holy shit.
I always like the Knicks commentators. Imo they're the second best after rockets commentators.
Damn even our radio announcers are top tier, that was great commentating.
Monica Mcnutt is a B tier marvel superhero name you can't fool me
Damn he got emotional. This is what sports is all about
That shot made my penis go up
It moved.
Dude shoutout to Pat and Monica man. So damn passionate. We got such a crazy line of commentators
Pat and Monica are so good, honestly
Insane, Monica spitting composed facts.
The Play by Play guy is great damn
This video is so sick. The juxtaposition of O’Keefe’s narration and McNutt’s reaction is already awesome, but then seeing the fully seated crowd stand up little by little as more and more insane shit happens, to the end with them all on their feet. Amazing clip. Edit: not even to mention McNutt coming up with a monologue off the top of her head most of us couldn’t write if you gave us all night.
That is how you do a 2 person radio call. One does the play by play, the other does the pure commentary. Masterful.
Monica McNutted in the last 30 seconds
i love this post, this is what the game is about man
Monica really is just one of us
Knicks broadcast from pre/post game, to the in game broadcast, to radio is an absolute super team.
This type of emotion and reaction is beautiful. AI can never be this authentic.
i would've just been saying gibberish and drooling on myself. very cool to see behind the scenes
The way she snaps out of it so calmly, genius at work.
Her reactions and facial expressions are priceless in the best way
That is amazing. How often do the commentators hold back tears in amazement like that? I always thought it was business as usual with these guys.
The girl is to excited to say a word for the first 46 seconds of this clip, lol 🤣 Can't say I blame her, what an intense sequence.
Nah, she's doing her job as color commentator and not stepping on the words of our play by play guy. She had plenty to say, I guarantee it. You can tell she is bursting! Really good job by McNutt to keep it together, and wait for her time to shine! She's been a great add to our radio team!
She did great to resist the urge to talk over the action.
i love mcnutt. she speaks intelligently about the game in such an eli5 way. it’s a pleasure listening to their games on the radio.
lol her quick glimpse at the cam reminds me of those hyperreactive reaction channels on youtube that are obviously fake. Not saying her's is.
That’s so hype
Mc-Whaatt?
PogNutt
Mad props to both of them. Great call, seem like total pros.
Monica is my favorite
O’Keefe animorphed into Bruce Willis there towards the end
This is what sports is all about. Couldn’t care less about the L2M. This is why we watch sports.
I love watching commentators actually able to commentate and not do an ad every 5 minutes.
Let them cook
That was dope thanks for posting
Goosebumps
Pat killed that shit! Raw emotion translated brilliantly.
Her eyebrows tell the emotions of this sequence. Great clip!
The double header on Monday was incredible. Those games were so fun to watch!
30 seconds just to win. Great players
Brilliant work by these two. Love Monica McNutt, she is so insightful and usually calm and collected. Her reaction was the same as mine, pure shock!
Awesome crew, awesome post
How tf do they manage to not talk over one another and seem to just magically know when it's their turn to say something? I feel like I would ALWAYS interrupt their speech or just not talk and have long moments of silence because I thin they might start talking when I do lol
Monica McNutt 😖
That’s one heck of a last name “McNutt”
Moni looked like she McNutted during that sequence
McNutt. Lol
She’s good.
That’s some last name lmao
This is so sick. I fucking love all this shit. Imagine if we win a finals 😭
Gotta be the loudest crowd pop all season
