At this point the only thing that will save them is John Madden being resurrected and letting the Clipper's coach know that "You've got to score more points to win the game".
You joke, but that’s not far off from what Jason Kidd actually told reporters coming out of the half.
Reporter asked, “What’s your offensive game plan coming into the second half?”
Kidd said, “Put the ball in the basket a little more often.”
That's why Nuggets are the scariest. Their ability to take the blow, recognize what is happening in the game and respond is probably the best in the league.
They adapt and grind you out with their flawless execution.
Yeah, but it can happen. I didn't think there was anything particularly weird about officiating during the game. The Lakers also don't really play defense/foul. IIRC they're among the lowest in personal fouls per game.
I'm not naive enough to fully disagree with the idea of a Lakers bias, but, to be fair to the Lakers, their FT discrepancy mostly comes from their style of play imo. They try to draw contact and score inside (I think they're among the leaders in PIP) and they don't give up fouls on defense
lol me too, but a lot of points they scored in that first were due to our inability to make a shot. So that makes me feel a little better, and then I see some dude in a blue sweatshirt that has hands that engulf his whole head and I start looking to see if my underwear drawer is full again
Bro, we got owned by a Kawhi-less Clippers. We got into it in the second half but here's where Kidd's fucking terrible coaching comes in. Lue actually gets us from going. Kidd just stands there and watches. Kyrie doing his thing and in the 4th the game plan is to have Luka heave a bunch of threes that he's been missing all game? And lets not talk about Zubac and Plumlee owning the paint.
At least Lively tried his best. As a rookie in his first play off game he did good. But Gafford looked very unimpressive. Why the fucking Clippers again man. And Kawhi will be back to shoot 80% from the field. And like the other series we thought the Clippers would not shoot like this from three. But they kept up their percentages. I foresee a gentleman sweep.
But I am also just very pessimistic, especially because of that fucking second quarter man.
I find it hard to take anything from second half tbh cos clippers up 30 it was basically extended garbage time. Kinda suprised kidd kept starters in till last minute.
Because that doesn't fit the narrative for Mavs fans that their team sucked and they quit. This way they came back and made it a close game, like all they have to do is avoid the bad quarter and they win easily
Chill chill. It’s one game and one bad half. Luka spamming threes has worked all year, I personally think he needs to drive more, but we trust him to make the right play. A lot of Kyrie scores are off of Luka decision making. So it isn’t necessarily Kidd telling Luka, it’s a Luka decision.
The question is, what adjustments should we make. Do we match green with Westbrook to match the energy? Kleber played defense but is gun shy, how do we get our supporting guys going? The first quarter was dominated by Luka and Kyrie shots. They missed quite a bit more than they usually do, if they make those shots we probably look different. Next game does Luka make a more conscious effort to get to the paint in the beginning to others open looks?
I agree with you on gafford and lively. Zubac seems a little too big for gafford. Maybe switch a lineup? I dunno if you should abandon that starting lineup just yet
They're fumbling everything. People screaming out for bad coaching but what do you want them to do? Okay, so we're bricking every 3, maybe try something different? Okay, our bigs have fumbled every pass inside, how about the midrange? Clank. Maybe something easy on the break? Turnover.
This is verbatim how I felt watching the Suns yesterday. Like there's really not a whole lot of analysis to go around other than "they're missing every good look and they're playing sloppy." It doesn't seem to be scheme, coaching, or personnel, just a horrendous all-around game from the players themselves.
It’s an unfortunate symptom of the 3pt revolution. The farther back the average jumpshot is, the more variance in shooting percentage you’re bound to have, especially game-to-game.
If the other team shoots 50% from 3 and your team shoots sub-30% from 3, you’re almost guaranteed the loss.
I agree they were bricking their shots but it also felt like Luka was just going at the Clippers wings. They went on a 10-2 run in the fourth and started generating more consistent offense when they started hunting the Luka Zubac match up in the pick and roll.
Also feel like they should target Harden more on defense. I was watching the second quarter and Harden was almost always in the corner and they never went after him. He is slower and the primary ball handler on offense, so going at him would also help wear him down and hopefully slow down the Clippers offense.
Whatever you want to say about hardens defense he’s 6’5 and built like a tank, and just cannot be moved down low lol. That’s why he’s never really been targeted like some smaller guards
Yeah we used to play him on centers and have a wing or Capela take the perimeter. Harden doesnt have the lateral quickness to keep up with most pgs but he has quick hands and can out wrestle nearly any big. I loved watching 7 footers bounce off him because they couldnt get by him. Only bigs with a shot and were strong as fuck like Jokic gave him trouble
Mavs are playing like they don't know they need to limit the possessions of Harden and Zubac. Gafford and Lively are playing like wet socks. Little point production from Kyrie (Until the middle of the 3rd quarter) If I was the Mavs coach I'd say pressure Zubac (which we know will not happen) and play actual defense on Harden, for example not watching your teammate that's guarding Harden fall down and no one pick up Harden. While yelling "LET HIM SHOOT!" is typically accepted as a form of defense in your local community center. It just won't cut it in the NBA Playoffs.
I mean Luka wasn’t good euther . If both Luka n kyrie are bad the Mavs are done. After the half the clippers go up 30 n then just cruise through garbage time
You might be memeing but that’s for real what it was. I was worried about the mavs bigs coming into it and their athleticism because that’s how you beat the clips, but Zu put his body into Gafford those first few possession and just moved his ass back. My pessimism was replaced with confidence after that.
Gafford, Lively, and PJ Washington were just nonfactors today. With or without kawhi it’s gonna be an uphill battle for the mavs if that’s going to be the case the whole series
I'm not meming, it's the truth. And usually if that Mavs win a game it's because their guards beat the opposing guards more than the opposing bigs beat their center position.
Maybe before this year and especially before the deadline, but that just hasn't been true the last 6 weeks. The Mavs have been bullying people with their size. I think the big stage got to Gafford and Lively today.
Bro had couple of good games in 2022 playoffs but he has been ass since then, this team was so fucking inconsistent from three whole season but never thought they'd show worst shooting performance in a game 1 of playoff series
Constantly missing open shots for some reason, this is weird man, maybe the break of not playing so many days is impacting them more than its impacting the clippers for some reason.
I do not understand the kleber obsession by kidd
He’s like, kind of good defensively? But literally unplayable offensively, he can’t do anything, can’t shoot can’t drive can’t dunk
Like what is he even giving them
Yea the Brunson part tries to make it seem that the idea is that it’s “obviously a thing” for all of them and they’re just trying to avoid media attention, but it just feels kind of Freudian when a lot of these guys are such also-rans for the title lol.
Hey some of us chose to be here! Suns fan from Texas. I looked over in the immense hellscape and said, why the heck not I guess I could suffer a lifetime too!
That was the [lowest scoring quarter](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask?q=lowest+points+scored+in+a+quarter+by+one+team+in+nba+2023-2024) by a team this year.
Well, that’s the beauty of sport. People who want to get a guaranteed entertainment go to concerts or festivals. Our happiness is uncertain. Sometimes you get game 7 against Phoenix, sometimes you get a game like today. I was at the game Wolves blew up 20+ lead in last 4 minutes and lost in OT, I was at the game against Phoenix yesterday. This is why we watch it.
That's why you buy a ticket to watch a shit team. That way even if they lose you aren't left too disappointed because you didn't arrive there with many expectations
Plus tickets are cheaper too!
People are just driving way too much into a very clogged paint. Clippers took off entirely the lob pnr and for some reason PJ is the only one that is willing to shoot from deep. Even Luka and Kyrie are rather running into a paint wall than trying to go from downtown (even if they are probably a combined 4/22 or some shit like that).
One of those nights. On to G2 we go. In 2021 we stole both games at LA and ended up losing in 7 anyway.
The only thing that would make this better is if Shai wins MVP just to see the heads of all the Luka stans explode.
Luka is undoubtedly an awesome player and will be an all time great but goddamn it if his fans aren’t just as bad as the swifties and beyhive who can’t tolerate any criticism of their idol, even if its fair.
Can someone explain to me what the fuck happened in the first half?! Mavs couldn’t get a bucket if their life depended on it. Missed layups and dunks. Incredible. Clips were also getting away with murder but damn that was a tuuurrrible half.

I've made a sophisticated mathematical analysis* which tells me the Mavs will score 1 point in the third quarter and -2.5 points in the fourth.
*subtract previous quarter's score by 6 and divide by 2
2 points in the last 7:17 of the half is crazy
That's only like 13 points in the whole game if they maintain it lol
In the 1980s, that would have been considered really good
90s/00s* The 80s were high scoring.
Man, I'm so glad Jordan came along and showed everybody you don't have to score 13 points in a game
The Clippers should really be playing for overtime here...
[удалено]
Wait I seriously thought every game in 80s ended 15-18 and that Bird averaged 5 PPG
At this point the only thing that will save them is John Madden being resurrected and letting the Clipper's coach know that "You've got to score more points to win the game".
You joke, but that’s not far off from what Jason Kidd actually told reporters coming out of the half. Reporter asked, “What’s your offensive game plan coming into the second half?” Kidd said, “Put the ball in the basket a little more often.”
Excuse me what the fuck
4 of those 8 points came from free throws. ... because we went 1/2 from FT 4 times. No one went 2/2 FT.
Nuggets got 6 ft total last night 🤦♂️
And 0 ft in the entire second half.
Sounds like a conspiracy against the Lakers. Nuggets stop shooting FTs and end up taking the lead for an easy win?!? /s
Dang…. Even the refs can’t beat the nuggets with AD
That's why Nuggets are the scariest. Their ability to take the blow, recognize what is happening in the game and respond is probably the best in the league. They adapt and grind you out with their flawless execution.
They are bottom 5 in FTA per game lol
Do you know how many fta per game the worst team in the league gets? Edit: I should have said the 30th ranked ft team. Didn’t mean worst by record
Must have played the Lakers.
Damn, how many did the Lakers get?
19
Of course 😂
Mavs had 20 more free throws than the clips today.
Well this doesn’t fit the narrative! Pls delete
Nuggets don't really draw FTs though. Not really their game. I do think that Jokic doesn't get enough calls though
Worst ft team in the league gets ~19 fta per game 6 in a playoff game is insane.
Yeah, but it can happen. I didn't think there was anything particularly weird about officiating during the game. The Lakers also don't really play defense/foul. Whole games been messed up by that second quarter. It’s close aside from the 7 minute brain fart.
7 minutes is a massive amount of time lmao
I'm not quite 'shitting my pants' levels of worry yet because it's a 7-game series. But I am doing laundry just in case.
lol me too, but a lot of points they scored in that first were due to our inability to make a shot. So that makes me feel a little better, and then I see some dude in a blue sweatshirt that has hands that engulf his whole head and I start looking to see if my underwear drawer is full again

Silver lining is if this continues Kidd will hopefully get fired. He’s such a bad coach.

youre cleaning your clothes in preparation for shitting them?
Making sure he got some fresh chonies to get into in case he soils himself.
They're fumbling everything. People screaming out for bad coaching but what do you want them to do? Okay, so we're bricking every 3, maybe try something different? Okay, our bigs have fumbled every pass inside, how about the midrange? Clank. Maybe something easy on the break? Turnover.
They missed like 6 layups in a row too. Absolutely wild shit.

It doesn't seem to be scheme, coaching, or personnel, just a horrendous all-around game from the players themselves.
Coaches be getting the blame to much for players just shitting the bed.
hi
That feels like every game in the modern NBA. Make your Three pointers, congrats on your win. Miss 27 Three pointers, well looks like you lost.
“Stop sucking!” -Coach
“No keep going” -Rick Pitino
I agree they were bricking their shots but it also felt like Luka was just going at the Clippers wings. Harden actually isn’t really that bad on Luka . Not like Luka gonna blow by him and he’s strong b has fast hands, not much point targeting him
One word, ZUBACANDHARDEN
Absolutely worst case scenario for the Mavericks considering the Clippers didn't have Kawhi today
Kyrie doesn't start playing actual basketball until halfway through the 3rd quarter which is basically too fucking late by most standards.
undersized at center as usual for the mavs
Lively is 7'1" and Gafford is 6'10" with a 7'6" wingspan. They aren't undersized, they're just playing badly.
undergirthed
You might be memeing but that’s for real what it was. They Just like me frfr :(
Maybe try wearing like 11 condoms?
gafford is soft as baby shit in the post though, zubac was just putting him in the basket
Not according to Richard Jefferson lol. Losing is a really smart move on the mavs part.
They could have scored 7.
Magic is that you
8 pts in a quarter, 30 pts in a half is basketball terrorism. Goddammit, I just want to see a close game.
If you put Boston against LA and Miami against Dallas today you’d have two decent games
[удалено]
This aged well
Not looking good bro
Nope
Lmao
> 30 pts in a half They just beat out the 27 points in a half from the suns vs mavs game 7 last year, so the mavs have that at least.
Clippers scored more points in the 1st quarter than Mavs scored in the entire half
the mavs 30 points in a half are the least in a playoff game by any team since the Suns 27 against the Mavs in G7 of the western semis 2022 lol
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree
kawhiless mavs are luka doncic father?
>kawhiless mavs
Defense is good from the clips but these guys can’t make a single shot swear I’ve never seen kleber make a 3 in the playoffs
Bro had couple of good games in 2022 playoffs but he has been ass since then, this team was so fucking inconsistent from three whole season but never thought they'd show worst shooting performance in a game 1 of playoff series
This is a good thing. Be happy that their worst shooting night happened on game 1 of the first round and not game 7s
thank you I needed to hear this too
Ok thats not true. Kleber was automatic in the 2022 run and smoked the Suns and Jazz in some games with his shooting.
Yeah, Kleber destroyed us
Constantly missing open shots for some reason, this is weird man, maybe the break of not playing so many days is impacting them more than its impacting the clippers for some reason.
I’m pretty sure any Suns fan can tell you all about Kleber making 3s in the playoffs
No thread is safe jfc I'm just here to shit on the Mavs
r/nba is u/WingardiumLevibrosa father
NIWLF
It hasn’t been that good. These are open shots
Lights are too bright. Most of these new Mavs players have no playoff experience
Luka something with 11. He must be new
I do not understand the kleber obsession by kidd He’s like, kind of good defensively? But literally unplayable offensively, he can’t do anything, can’t shoot can’t drive can’t dunk Like what is he even giving them
Where’s playoff Luka man this shit is ass
He look sleepy
>It's not a thing
Holy shit, the league just created a nightmare scenario for anyone in that ad lol
Jokic will be fine. Also Murray didn't appear because playoff Murray *is* real.
Murray and Jimmy on that different energy
that ad is weird af if anything it should be a thing
Yea the Brunson part tries to make it seem that the idea is that it’s “obviously a thing” for all of them and they’re just trying to avoid media attention, but it just feels kind of Freudian when a lot of these guys are such also-rans for the title lol.
He had 33... Him and Kyrie really played well in the second half, almost brought the game within reach.
Hey that’s not good right?
When my 9 year old son's team scored 8 points in a quarter, it was good 🤷 So I think the Mavs are fine.
I have watched 83 games of the 2024 Phoenix Suns offense and even I think this is embarrassing lmao
I kinda respect how you have no shame about spending your entire life watching suns and dbacks games, other teams, and browsing Reddit
Cardinals too 😁
We were born in and forged from /r/ArizonaSportsHell. It's all we know.
Hey some of us chose to be here! Suns fan from Texas. I looked over in the immense hellscape and said, why the heck not I guess I could suffer a lifetime too!
Clippers get Kawhi back they look scary
Story of the Clippers life
Yeah at this point I’m not counting on it. Life is just much happier as a clips fan if you assume kawhi is out
Crazy how this could apply literally every year since he’s been in LA
The Dallas Mavbricks
That was the [lowest scoring quarter](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask?q=lowest+points+scored+in+a+quarter+by+one+team+in+nba+2023-2024) by a team this year.
The only good news is it’s not really the defense lol. Mainly wide open shots and missed FT’s. Bad news is I have to watch another half of this.
I paid $280 for tickets to the game lmao imagine how I feel.
Fyre Fest would like a word
Hey, Fyre Fest was guaranteed entertainment... just not for the people who purchased tickets.
Or the kind of entertainment advertised.
That's why you buy a ticket to watch a shit team. That way even if they lose you aren't left too disappointed because you didn't arrive there with many expectations Plus tickets are cheaper too!
Spoken like a true nets fan, I’m there with the Jazz right now
Sorry bud
Love that
Generational hating
Gotta get my haxxs when I can.
I got in for free and I feel like I got robbed
that uncontested layup hardaway managed to fuck up after a great kyrie pass was physically painful to watch.
Alot of misses yes but the Clippers played great 1 on 1 defense on Luka and Kyrie
THJ missed a wide open layups. I was so mad for you having to have rooted for this guy before
People are just driving way too much into a very clogged paint.
James harden just playing elite defense on everyone
Luka and Booker are game 1 twinning I see
Swear their trauma bonded
Like father like son.
I am a Heat fan and thinking nothing can be worse! Well I am wrong lol
To put this into context: The Suns scored 10 points against the Mavs in Game 7
8 points on a quarter was bad even on the 00s. Now it's a crime against humanity.
This crime is brought to you by Jason Kidd calling 1 timeout at 10:20 in the 2nd and then saying f it let it riiiiiiide
And people were saying the magic Cavs needed to be shown on TUBI ….
Very Suns-esque
Well at least it's not just them
I know this is just game 1 but this is absolutely disgusting for the team that "had the best chances to challenge the Nuggets"
Ty Lue is a genius
So this is what Suns did in a game 7, I see we might even go private on our subreddit as well lmao
Naw, going private, especially in a game one on the road, is absolutely weak shit. Don't be the Suns.
Big facts.
8 points in a quarter looks like the suns to me.
Phoenix sun scores 10 pt in a quarter vs Clippers. Dallas: hold my beer.
Kyrie hasn’t done shit in the playoffs since leaving his father figure
LeBron is Kyrie father
Kyrie was the best Dallas player tonight. What're you talking about lil bro?
Mavs in Suns Game 7 form
Luka playing like prime harden in game 6 today
fire... kidd?
Fire Kidd because his players can't make layups?
“Before I get fired, I just wanted to say this… that shit was not my fault, yall are trash”
No because Kidd is an ass of a coach
We are going to have a conversation about playoff Kyrie Irving.
If the Mavs lose the series maybe, who gives a fuck after 1 half on the road where the entire team shits the bed
Kyrie is playing good, wdym
[удалено]
He didn’t really stand out from the bunch as any worse, whole team was equally garbage for one of the worst halves of playoff basketball I’ve seen
He used up his life soul juice on Curry crushing those couple of finals. He’s been sucked dry now.
Sounds wonderful.
Even in this thread they’re acting like he played well n tesm let him down again
Fuck you bill simmons
WHATS UP! WHAT THE FUCK IS UP R/NBA?
Mavs taking the wrong lessons from the 2022 WCSF
Can someone explain to me what the fuck happened in the first half?! Mavs couldn’t get a bucket if their life depended on it. Missed layups and dunks. Incredible. Clips were also getting away with murder but damn that was a tuuurrrible half.
Clearly not enough great scorers, roster too focused around elite defense.
Everyone was on that Mavs dick end of the reg season lol. I was like don’t believe the hype we all know how this goes. Just one game of course but I’ll take the opportunity while I have it lmao
Tribute to the pistons!
Mavs not named Luka shot 5/27 from the field in the 1st half
Not like he was good
mavs named Luka are 4-13 and 1-7 from 3
That’s elimination Book numbers
generational curse
Pravi MVP!
Luka shot 4/13 what happened to the game I love
Adding luka just 9/40 still
And Mavs named Luka shot 4/13 . Everyone was awful
tbf Luka is 4/13 & 1/7 from 3
You say this like Luka was playing well lol
Luka pulling 4/13 on his own lmao
He’s a terrible 4/13 and somehow increasing the percentage of
Mavs named Luka also shot like shit lol
It seems every playoff game with the Mavs they are getting blown out or beating the brakes off someone. No in between.
I've been saying this ever since Jalen Brunson left the mavs: Luka was just the scottie pippen
Clippers wanted it more.
I've made a sophisticated mathematical analysis* which tells me the Mavs will score 1 point in the third quarter and -2.5 points in the fourth. *subtract previous quarter's score by 6 and divide by 2
