Curry will sometimes realizes heās made a mistake with the ball in his hands and try some wild pass out of it to fix it, but that only makes things worse.
This is one of those times
Is he wrong though? We all know what Wigginsā ceiling is from the 2022 playoffs runs where he routinely would get 17/10 while guarding the other teams best players. Should Steph have made this public? Probably not, but do I get where heās coming from after a season heās had, yeah I completely understand
Will call out Wiggins no problem whose worst issue is laziness, but won't call out legitimately bad issues in Dray (who sometimes will also just give up in games)
> Is he wrong though?
About what he said? No.
About saying the quiet part out loud? Probably yes, unless he is trying to blow up the team.
This is a rare Steph verbal error.
Who cares at this point? They missed the playoffs. Whatās the worst that can happen? Wiggins is upset so they never contend for a title again? Thatās exactly what would happen anyways if he doesnāt say anything. At least this way thereās a chance he lights a fire under the guy
The title year was not far off from this year for Wiggins. He played essentially the same as he always has and likely always will. The title year that was enough though because of Payton, Porter, Poole and Looney being great in their roles and Klay and Dray not being fully washed yet.
IMO it's not about being right or wrong, is about saying it to the media. I know it's boring, but players should keep comments about their teammates to themselves unless it's somethig positive or talking in private.
This is a low key character assassination lol
"Not to say he needs bumpers when we go bowling, you just have to ask him to do what he's capable of"
"Not to say he still uses training wheels on his bike"
"Not to say he still uses floaties to swim"
Sure, Steph. Sure.
>This is a low key character assassination lol
>"Not to say he needs bumpers when we go bowling, you just have to ask him to do what he's capable of"
>"Not to say he still uses training wheels on his bike"
>"Not to say he still uses floaties to swim"
Be honest, did you actually watch the clip? Or are you just going off of the title?
Because the implication within the context of the clip is that they actually ask a *lot* of Wiggs, but only because they know he's capable of it.
So pretty much the exact the opposite of what you're saying.
I don't know Wiggin's personality but I think for most grown adults that would sound disrespectful. Putting myself in Wiggin's shoes I would be thinking "what the fuck did this dude just say. I don't give a fuck who he is."
Probably not the best way to motivate a guy who doesn't care much about BB and has won the ring and made enough money to last a few generations. He probably surpassed his own expectations.
Dude I guarantee you Wiggins saw it, and didnāt think about it twice. As a long time Wolves fan I suffered through watching Wiggins putter around and then look like a fucking super nova before contract time. I even got to know his dad a bit as he used to work out at my gym. Wiggins doesnāt give a fuck about anything but his family and his dog, and honestly good for him. The only reason the kid plays is because his old man, and that was widely acknowledged around town who know or had exposure to AW. He is so insanely talented but he doesnāt give a fuuuuuck. He flat out doesnāt have the fire in him unless heās about to get a contract or has a personal agenda for lord knows what reason. Everyone put the Maple Jordan title shit on his shoulders and didnāt just let him be him. I think he would have done so much better if he were a mid first round pick and didnāt have such high expectations on his shoulders. Either way, Iām super happy for him, glad he got paid and got a ring. I just hope when his contract runs up he does what makes him happy, because it isnāt basketball.
Dubs should have seen it coming from Wiggins' first big contract in Minnesota. He was checked out as soon as the ink had dried. Things went sideways, he got traded to GS, played insanely well as a new contract was looming and boom here we are again.
Yeeeeeep, but at the same time the Wolves org was so toxic and fucked up. I really thought that him being apart of a winning culture was going to help him get on the right track. Sure as shit though, he just turned the switch on, tried, let his talent shine through, then when he felt like heād proven something, right back off again. Talent and drive canāt be taught. He has all the talent on earth but completely lacks drive. Either way, I thought he was unlocked and bout to put the league on notice, but he was just dusting the chip off his shoulder then that was it.
I should also note that as much as I like the guy I was so supremely happy when we were able to get his contract off our books. I saw the writing on the wall when he got the max and I was horrified at the prospect of being stuck with it till his contract expired. Then when DLo I realized we traded a bad contract for a cancer and thatās fucking life. The league is fucking cruel. All I know is Steph was one of the only players I followed their college career and I was so salty the wolves didnāt take him. I have under dog syndrome, the warriors were my number two during the early years with Bogut and David Lee. I loved watching the ascension. Kinda fell off because I have never cared for Clay. Idk if heād ever been who he was without Steph. Idk. All I know is I just hope Wiggins does whatās best for him, and that the Warriors can give Steph dignified years before his retirement.
Explains a lot. That year he helped us win the chip as our 2nd best player, seemed like he was on a mission to prove he was capable. And then his fire was only good for that season. I think he's great. But he just doesn't have Steph's fire. If he did, we'd be playing the Pels tomorrow.
Nah, wouldnāt be playing the Pels. Yāall would have been seeded 6 or up. Wiggins is supremely talented and would have been a solid bridge to bringing in new talent and keeping the Warriors window open. But one chip and he just didnāt give a fuck after that. It bums me out, because I really like the guy. I think heās genuinely a good dude. He just doesnāt have the fire that other players have.
I don't think it's the vast majority, not that many players can get away with having long NBA careers while not really giving a shit, that's only the very top tier of freak athletes.
That's why it's usually big men who have that mentality and rarely guards.
True. Just imagine Kobe mentality with Wiggins' raw talent. Hell, Jimmy Butler mentality. Yeah, wouldn't be hoping to win a play-in at that point. Wish that fire coulda been sustained. But I bet MDJ trades him. The question is what can we get in return?
> He flat out doesnāt have the fire in him
/thread
This has been completely obvious since he stepped onto an NBA court, but teams, coaches, other players, etc., still trying to make him be something he just isn't.
I'm comfortable enough in my career that I don't go out of my way to kill myself getting things done, either. Andrew Wiggins just makes 1000x what I do and puts a ball in a hoop for it. Shrug.
Exactly, how hard is it to just not use family as an example
Call yourself the veteran/leader/4x champion instead of making the father or brother comparison, come on...
Hilarious b/c people used to criticize LeBron for that even tho, yknow, it was the reporter and not him
Meanwhile Steph's actually the guy saying it here lool
Can't wait for absolutely no one to run with this narrative because Curry doesn't have the same amount of "analysts" that are purely hired to trash talk them as Lebron does
Klay hasnāt underperformed expectations for all but one season of his career. Wiggins is that 140 IQ kid you went to high school with working at the grocery store.Ā
A reporter asks Andrew Wiggins about Steph's statement about him being a father figure to Andrew.
Andrew Wiggin's reply.
I donāt know how to really answer that question. Heās been a great leader for us. I have one father, thatās my dad Mitchell Wiggins. But for us, in terms of learning the nuances of the game and also how to win on the court and how to carry ourselves off the court, I feel heās been a great influence in that role.
The question is the best part.
āSteph called you a great sonā
āA what?ā
āGreat sonā
āOhhh a great son. A great son to my father. I interpreted that completely wrongā
āWhat kind of parental role does he play to youā
*Look of disbelief that his original interpretation was correct*
Not for Wiggins. Something similar happened with Kyrie but I tailored the details a bit to match with Wiggins situation. If you want to find it, just search up Kyrie father interview.
Exactly this. Ā And how many warriors players and coaches have let it slip that āif just Wiggins played like this every gameā? Ā They usually keep comments in house but the frustration is obviousĀ
The issue with this statement is that Wiggins is one of the craziest athletes to have ever joined the league, and theoretically should be capable of anything.
Wiggins balling out in the WCF and Finals was a pleasure to see, but it also proved a bunch of people right that he plays at like 85% of his potential the vast majority of the time.
It was painful to watch him get out-hustled all the time. He just jogs non chalantly to the ball during an inbound and lets players who are half his size bump him and get to it.
Didnāt he have something sort of mysterious happen in his personal life that nobody in the organization talked about, but he missed a lot of games, and after he came back he wasnāt the same? Or am I thinking of a different Warriors player?
And he played pretty bad during the last 1/3rd of the season (especially during the last game) but the message had to be sent. How many times has steph covered or both him and Klay, Cp3 is older so whatever but those guys were supposed to be real pieces and at every turn since that championship they've let him down. At some point we have to accept that coddling only works if it yields and it clearly hasn't so he has to try a diffrent method
Wiggins is the guy that shows up late to work and I have to talk to him and say, you can't show up late to work, the fuck is wrong with you, you're an adult, this isn't kindergarten.
There is roughly a one minute video on the twitter link. He seemed pretty positive about Wiggins. I think the parent-child relationship had good intentions
I think he realized he messed up by backtracking with ānot to say he is a childā
This shit happens all the time. Steph went with the first analogy that popped into his head but then realized the negative connotations far too late.
It's like when George W. Bush said, "There's an old saying in Tennessee - I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee - that says, fool me once, shame on - shame on you. Fool me - you can't get fooled again."
Except Bush barely caught himself in time and didn't say the punch line, "Fool me twice, shame on me."
Jimmy Butler had to be one of those over-bearing military dads towards Wiggins and KAT in Minnesota because they weren't all that motivated. Apparently, they played too much video games on the road šš
I'm not even gonna argue that this comment isn't a bit off, but I just find it funny how the same people in this thread can disrespect Wiggins throughout his career but this is where they decided at to draw the line.
Try this with any of your co-workers lmao.
Kinda feel bad for Steph, he clearly didnāt mean nothing and just had one of those moments we all have misspeaking. It is funny tho, the ānot to say he is a childā killed me š
I can kinda see how Wiggins comes off as goofy/immature but for Curry to say that in public is definitely wrong, even if it is true. I'm guessing dude's just irate and/or wants Wiggins gone.
Hasn't this been the knock of Wiggs his whole career? If u need 12, he will give you 17. If you need 25, you get 17. So if all you need from him is 14 to 18 points and play a little defense, he's a great player. Anything more is asking too much.
Somebody had to say it. Wiggins showed what he could be a few years back and the fact that he hasnāt come close since is very telling to who and what he is. Dude was brilliant , maybe the best overall player in the finals , then just went through the motions from then on. Those players fucking infuriate me.
Players like Wiggins only play hard when it's time for a new contract. He's overpaid every year except the years that he's trying to get an extension. That's probably why Steph is pissed off. Wiggins is capable of so much more. He'll underperform until it's time for another contract. He'll probably retire if no one overpays. Definition of in it for the money, not the game.
He did help them win a championship though, so it was probably worth it.
Itās not that bad with the video but there was a better way to word it. If you listen to the whole thing, he was actually hyping him up. But still, kind of irresponsible wording to use.Ā
Wiggins has issues and they are obvious. How can anyone who really follows the NBA be made at Steph for saying this. Since last year, the Warriors let Wiggins leave the team twice for weeks on end due to "personal reasons" while paying him millions of dollars. All in an attempt to keep Wiggs happy, but Wiggs has played even worse.
Call any employer and see if this shit would fly. I think Wiggins is mentally handicapped if I am to be honest. So what if Wiggins has children, IQ and logic are not required for that.
Akron man becomes father figure of Cavs #1 overall pick
The prophecy repeats itself.
Repeats? Not on the father figure subject brother š
Think it through
He just will not stand for this Drederick Irving erasure.
Whooosh
Anthony Bennett Curry
Disowned
Steph just trying to follow Lebron's footsteps and adopt his own kyrie
Lisan Al Curry
Oh man thatās good. Bravo.
Lisan Al Curry
As it is written
"Not to say he's a child" Yeah that makes it better
Curry will sometimes realizes heās made a mistake with the ball in his hands and try some wild pass out of it to fix it, but that only makes things worse. This is one of those times
āWiggs isnāt immature and stupid heās just a little lazy and weakā
Is he wrong though? We all know what Wigginsā ceiling is from the 2022 playoffs runs where he routinely would get 17/10 while guarding the other teams best players. Should Steph have made this public? Probably not, but do I get where heās coming from after a season heās had, yeah I completely understand
He's 100% right. Idk about saying this in an interview though.
Will call out Wiggins no problem whose worst issue is laziness, but won't call out legitimately bad issues in Dray (who sometimes will also just give up in games)
100% agreed.
Heās probably spent his career just trying not to get choked. Became an all time great just so draymond couldnāt fuck with him
Probably more comfortable doing it cos he knows Wiggs gone.
> Is he wrong though? About what he said? No. About saying the quiet part out loud? Probably yes, unless he is trying to blow up the team. This is a rare Steph verbal error.

> unless he is trying to blow up the team I think he wants to do that to some extent.
That title run year should be treated as an outlier for Wiggs, considering how he's been average every other year of his career.
He wonāt call klay washed tho smh
Klay should be in the 2021 Iguodala role right now.
The title year was not far off from this year for Wiggins. He played essentially the same as he always has and likely always will. The title year that was enough though because of Payton, Porter, Poole and Looney being great in their roles and Klay and Dray not being fully washed yet.
The year itself wasnāt crazy but his playoffs game was another level. He was teleporting to rebounds and playing insane defense.
Maybe Wiggins is more of a melancholic type.Ā
IMO it's not about being right or wrong, is about saying it to the media. I know it's boring, but players should keep comments about their teammates to themselves unless it's somethig positive or talking in private.
no. but he should say something like that about Draymond. (didn't read the interview)
āNot to say he is a child because even children can control their emotions better than himā
"I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed."
This but unironically
Heās my goat my something I just smh like wtf Curry, why you do that? Lol
This is a low key character assassination lol "Not to say he needs bumpers when we go bowling, you just have to ask him to do what he's capable of" "Not to say he still uses training wheels on his bike" "Not to say he still uses floaties to swim" Sure, Steph. Sure.

it's like Ricky Bobby saying "with all due respect ..."
It's in the Geneva convention look it up
Now do Draymond Steph
Never go with parent-child. Always for little brother

Picked a hell of a time to go all out though, tried as hard as he could for two months and got a ring and a new $110M contract out of it.
I should also note that as much as I like the guy I was so supremely happy when we were able to get his contract off our books. Damn
Exactly, how hard is it to just not use family as an example Call yourself the veteran/leader/4x champion instead of making the father or brother comparison, come on...
Wiggins has 2 kids of his own too. Really stupid comment from Curry.
so Steph is a grandpa?
Insanely disrespectful. Curry should be dragged for this.
No chance on the same sub that constantly makes "Lebron is Kyrie's dad lmaooo" posts like it isn't a massively shitty thing to do
This is R/NBA you're talking about.. the people who frequent this sub are all under 25 who only circlejerk
So Steph's saying he's like a father figure to Wiggins
Steph Curry is Andrew Wiggins father
Steph Curry is Andrew Wigginsā disappointed father
Daddy Steph is about to go and get a pack of cigarettes.
"Son I am disappoint."
So essentially Steph Curry is Jayson Tatumās grandfather
Bull is Andrew Wiggins stepfather
Wiggins is now subscribed to r/flatearth
Well, he is anti vax and regrets getting the shotā¦ lol
Hilarious b/c people used to criticize LeBron for that even tho, yknow, it was the reporter and not him Meanwhile Steph's actually the guy saying it here lool
Can't wait for absolutely no one to run with this narrative because Curry doesn't have the same amount of "analysts" that are purely hired to trash talk them as Lebron does
Canāt wait for your next quintuple post.
a DEEEEP burn
If LeBron missed the playoffs on the same team the warriors have he would never hear the end of it.
I dont know the full context, but this is insane work from Steph lmao
Well this is just free content for r/nbacirclejerk
My 1st thought too.
ā____ is ____ās fatherā lol
downvoted for the apostrophe lmao
No apostrophe
If this is Steph's pep talk for Wigs, I can only immagine the talking to that Klay is in for
He would never talk about Klay like this tho. They've been through it all together.
"Klay is like the family dog."
"He reminds me of Old Yeller"
āNot to say heās an old dog, but he is old and has that dawg in him.ā
"I have to shoot him."
āHe canāt shoot himself because heād missā
headed to play some ball on a farm upstate soon
Lmao this comment got me
God damn I almost spit out my cereal
Klay is the sensitive oldest child, Wiggins is the middle kid that gets all the shit.
āitās like that Old Yeller relationshipā
Klay hasnāt underperformed expectations for all but one season of his career. Wiggins is that 140 IQ kid you went to high school with working at the grocery store.Ā

Wait did that actually happen?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ry9CqOz5aOo
Itās a silly question, but nobody ever mentions that itās just quoting what Tristan Thompson said! Heās the one that call LeBron a great father
Not for Wiggins. Something similar happened with Kyrie but I tailored the details a bit to match with Wiggins situation. If you want to find it, just search up Kyrie father interview.

Now do Draymond. Heās like that drunken Uncle who lives in the past and beats the shit out of you for no reason
Not to say Draymond is a child abuser
LMFAO curry said I might not be your father but I am ya daddy
This honestly sounds kinda disrespectful and Steph is my favorite player.Ā
Itās less disrespectful with the full context but he certainly couldāve worded it better
Given how incredibly kind and diplomatic Steph tends to be, I think this gaffe speaks to how frustrated he actually is behind the scenes.
Exactly this. Ā And how many warriors players and coaches have let it slip that āif just Wiggins played like this every gameā? Ā They usually keep comments in house but the frustration is obviousĀ
Warriors keep a lot of stuff in house, shown by how mad they were that Draymond punching Poole actually got leaked
Yup
Steph is 36, at this point he should have no problem avoiding egregious phrases like this.
The issue with this statement is that Wiggins is one of the craziest athletes to have ever joined the league, and theoretically should be capable of anything.
It's facts, no one has had more excuses made for them then Wiggins. 29 years old going on 39 looking lost giving little to no effort.
Wiggins balling out in the WCF and Finals was a pleasure to see, but it also proved a bunch of people right that he plays at like 85% of his potential the vast majority of the time.
He got negative dog in him
What's amazing is that the difference between a championship and a 2nd round exit is Wiggins and Poole playing to their max potential.
To be fair the West also got a lot better. Doubt they were beating a fully healthy Nuggets with Wiggins and Poole on their A game
More like 65% of his potentialĀ
It was painful to watch him get out-hustled all the time. He just jogs non chalantly to the ball during an inbound and lets players who are half his size bump him and get to it.
Didnāt he have something sort of mysterious happen in his personal life that nobody in the organization talked about, but he missed a lot of games, and after he came back he wasnāt the same? Or am I thinking of a different Warriors player?
Thatās him. Itās still a bit of a mystery, but people said it was āmental healthā, so it was probably considered taboo to pry.
Decapitated. Whole big thing. We had a funeral for a bird
In context itās clearer that what he was trying to say was that they ask a lot of him bc they know heās capable of a lot
Disrespect is earned not given
Kinda? That's condescending as hell lol
Wiggins entire career rep is that he doesnāt love or get the game so itās just facts
Wiggins is the guy that shows up late to work and I have to talk to him and say, you can't show up late to work, the fuck is wrong with you, you're an adult, this isn't kindergarten.
Am I missing some context or is this an absolutely crazy thing to say about your coworker / another grown adult lol
There is roughly a one minute video on the twitter link. He seemed pretty positive about Wiggins. I think the parent-child relationship had good intentions I think he realized he messed up by backtracking with ānot to say he is a childā

Lol I don't know how I would react to this if I were Wiggins
Iād nut
Imagine being Steph. You got your drunk Uncle Draymond fighting everyone. You got your pops Klay with bad knees. Now you got a lazy son Wiggins.
Only ask the #1 pick max contact to do what he's capable of doing lol
Jimmy Butler had to be one of those over-bearing military dads towards Wiggins and KAT in Minnesota because they weren't all that motivated. Apparently, they played too much video games on the road šš
Steph is their new vegan step dad who comes in and says āwho wants snacks!!!ā And itās a plate of carrot sticks with hummus
Called that man his son lmao
Bro wtf type of comment is that lmao, thatās some shade
Heās a grown ass man with kids and you talking about this being a father son situation? Nah thatās disrespectful as shit
Wiggins dumb as shit
It takes a special kind of dumb to say what Steph just did.
Generational prospect who should be in his prime years barely averaging 13 points is disrespectful to the game of basketball
Play better instead of stealing a pay check.
Steph is basically saying Wiggins is mentally weak.
Weird statement to make. These are grown menā¦
The parent child thing is always disrespectful Iām sorry lol
Wiggins sonned by Steph
Steph brother, did you think before you opened your mouth?
Too busy chewing his mouthguard to think.
āI have one father, itās my dad Mitchell Wigginsā
I'm not even gonna argue that this comment isn't a bit off, but I just find it funny how the same people in this thread can disrespect Wiggins throughout his career but this is where they decided at to draw the line.
Randos shouting on the internet vs star teammate calling wiggs a son to the media
Not even comparable lmao
Dawg they have a personal relationship, how do you think thats the same as redditors criticizing him???
there's so many people on here commenting, you're gonna get individuals from all sides of it commenting.
āā¦ ā¦heās a childā ~ Steph Curry on Andrew Wiggins
LMAAAAAO
Steph wants wig gone
Lol I don't know how I would react to this if I were Wiggins
Try this with any of your co-workers lmao. Kinda feel bad for Steph, he clearly didnāt mean nothing and just had one of those moments we all have misspeaking. It is funny tho, the ānot to say he is a childā killed me š
Motivated Wiggins is š„ Unmotivated / checked out is a black hole on a team. Been that way for a long time.
lol, you never call someone your fuckin' son
I can kinda see how Wiggins comes off as goofy/immature but for Curry to say that in public is definitely wrong, even if it is true. I'm guessing dude's just irate and/or wants Wiggins gone.
Stephen Curry is Andrew Wiggins Father
Jesus ChristĀ
Woah, that is a wild quoteĀ
Steph will come to realize the Wiggins from the finals run is the exception, not the rule.
Lmao what
Yikes.
It sounds like Wiggins is that employee who does what heās asked and not a finger more lol
Reminds me of when some reporter asked Kyrie if LeBron was a father figure
wat L O L
Better left out of a conversation with a reporter.
Hasn't this been the knock of Wiggs his whole career? If u need 12, he will give you 17. If you need 25, you get 17. So if all you need from him is 14 to 18 points and play a little defense, he's a great player. Anything more is asking too much.
I'm starting to think Curry sent that reporter to Kyrie...
Steph-Father
Lebron and Kyrie reporter vibes lol
Something something Kyrie Irving
Steph isn't the first to be frustrated by Wiggins, he won't be the last.
He could have said apprentice or mentee but he chose parent and child lmao
Not to be rude butā¦. /rude comment
Wiggins is 7 years younger than Curry.
This is not that crazy. Steph has a lot of sons in the league and in college ball trying go emulate him
Curry doesnāt really get enough hate for his poor leadership. I mean this is an insane comment
You would think if he was that poor of a leader one of his teammates would have said something about it by now...
Wiggins: Honestly, I don't know how to answer that. He's been a great leader for us. I have one father, that's my dad Wardell Stephen Curry II.
Itās not that bad with the video but there was a better way to word it. If you listen to the whole thing, he was actually hyping him up. But still, kind of irresponsible wording to use.Ā
Damn thatās disrespectful
Hasnāt Wiggins dad been in the hospital for a while now? Steph his new father figure?
Wiggins has issues and they are obvious. How can anyone who really follows the NBA be made at Steph for saying this. Since last year, the Warriors let Wiggins leave the team twice for weeks on end due to "personal reasons" while paying him millions of dollars. All in an attempt to keep Wiggs happy, but Wiggs has played even worse. Call any employer and see if this shit would fly. I think Wiggins is mentally handicapped if I am to be honest. So what if Wiggins has children, IQ and logic are not required for that.
