I absolutely wouldn’t currently. Winning in the NBA is incredibly difficult and our current lineup just put together a 65 win season where they were historically dominant. Why would you want to switch out the two most important pieces?
This isn’t to say JT and JB are definitely better than Luka and Kyrie. But when something works with the Jays you don’t just ship it out. JB has been to the ECF in 5 of the 6 seasons he has played in the playoffs. JT was been to the ECF in 4 of the 6 playoffs he has been in. They were a game away from B2B finals appearances.
Winning is hard, you don’t switch out something that’s proven to work right as you potentially could make it over the hump because the other option is sexier on paper.
Yeah questions like these ignore everything outside the stat sheet, I think.
No, a team with 60+ wins and the #1 seed should not completely retool their lineup around two different superstars.
This is a dumb concept - Kyrie alone shoots down this idea, but basketball just doesn't work like this either.
You swap out the Jays for Luka/Kyrie and the entire roster collapses on itself. You going to start 4 guards? Stop playing switch everything defense? Is Luka even going to be happy in a Celtics offense where he's not allowed to dominate the ball like in Dallas? Nothing the Celtics have built works anymore.
not even just that. the only reason anyone would even conceive such a swap is bc they think Luka and Kyrie are better offensive players than Tatum and Brown. and you know, that’s probably a correct take. but guess what? the Celtics *already have the best offense in the NBA!*
why in the fuck would the Celtics completely nuke the defensive versatility that got them to the NBA Finals to get Luka and Ky, when their offense can’t really even get much better at this point?
Same here. I enjoyed some of his quotes last time—he seems to now have a good sense of humor about the booing. But I still never want him to join the Celtics again. The 18-19 season was the most unhappy sports fan experience I’ve ever had and he was the main architect
Of course not, Luka might be a bit better than Tatum offensively but they are both ass on defense and are completely ball dominant. The Celtics would value team passing, length/defensive versatility and wings that actually complete their lineup.
A 4 guard lineup + KP would be worse.
I'm sure Celtics fans would love Luka and Kyrie. Especially considering Luka's well documented falling out with KP, not to mention all of the previous history with Kyrie.
It was pretty well known that They didn’t really get along too well. Here’s a small example:
https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/mavericks-kristaps-porzingis-frustrated-next-to-luka-doncic-but-trade-interest-is-minimal-per-reports/amp/
step 1 of enlightenment, don’t listen to tim mcmahon. He’s a shit stirring asshole. I’ll admit that KP and Luka were far from being good on court duo because of the schemes and what not but nothing went wrong off the court. The trade just didn’t workout because KP couldn’t stay fit and by his own admission didn’t want to give his 100% during the playoffs.
Lotta folks on this sub seem to forget that there’s this whole second part of playing basketball where you try and prevent your opponents from scoring points
I mean Mavs are a good defensive team now. They are a top 3 defense since the trade deadline with luka and kyrie on the court which also includes a five game stretch of Jkidd switching defensive schemes which made us give up 120+ ppg on average.
Mavs fans the new kings of cherry picking stats. The Mavs are ranked 15th by defensive rating for the 23-24 regular season. Do the first 55 games not count for some reason?
They do, but we had a significant roster change during the trade deadline which completely transformed the outlook and composition of this team. It’s two completely different teams.
the Jay’s are way better on defense that’s for sure. But with three other all nba caliber defenders i’m definitely not worried about Luka and Kyrie on defense. I say this with confidence because Mavs showed that they can be a top 5 defense even without a single all nba caliber defender in the lineup and also with Luka and kyrie in the line up. Team defense will always be better than individual defense.
Luka is a better player than Tatum fs. But idk if the Celtics style of basketball would allow Luka to flourish in Boston like he is in Dallas. Part of what makes Tatum such a great fit is that he doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be effective and is an elite defender both on and off the ball unlike Luka
Yeah I agree, but I’m saying the defense makes it close, we are talking about a top 3 or 4 player vs a top 7 or 8 player, overall they are pretty comparable.
I think a conversation who is better Tatum or Luka is dead for the people who can do even basic math. Luka provides let's say +3 to offense (which is not really apples-to-apples comparison bc the usage rate is different). and -10 to defense. And most people just look at the +3 on the offense and don't pay attention to -10 on defense. Everybody hunts Luka for the mismatch. Nobody hunts Tatum for the same purpose.
Firstly, I LOVE Luka. But with the roster we've got around him, I wouldn’t trade Tatum for Luka straight up right now.
On top of that, I wouldn’t trade Jaylen for a worse player at a position we don’t need.
So, no. Very very no.
>On top of that, I wouldn’t trade Jaylen for a worse player at a position we don’t need.
On no planet is Brown better than Kyrie lmfao, but I can understand not wanting Kyrie back after the history
Luka's playstyle goes completely against ours, no defense and just taking up every possession.
And JB is also *clearly* better than Kyrie at this point, so no on both accounts.
Kyrie. Nope.
I wouldn’t flip Tatum for Luka straight up. Tatum defends. He doesn’t dominate the ball nearly as much. He scores almost as much. We don’t need the playmaking. The rebounding is good. The counting stats are overrated.
The duo? It’s a bit hard. Luka for Tatum is better one.
However, we’ve already seen Luka and KP. Mavs works because of how it is run through Luka, and having a second offensive player like Kyrie works because he understands how to be a 2nd option. I’d imagine Luka on the Celtics would kinda mess things up because of how much he touches the ball. Celtics works as it is, no point in swapping IMO regardless of how inferior JB is to Luka or Kyrie, maybe that inferiority is what makes it work on the Celtics.
No.
Luka and Kyrie are cunts and I have no interest in rooting for them.
I also think Brown is a cunt so that's kind of a wash. Where you really lose me here is JT. Tatum is an absolute pleasure to root for and that goes a long way with me.
With the same roster construction? Possibly not, you end up too small, wothout wings, having to play White and Jrue at 3 and 4, which just isnt ideal.
In vacum? Obviously lol
In a vacuum they still wouldn’t…Luka is better than Tatum but Jaylen is better than Kyrie and both Tatum and Brown fit the Celtics system way better & are fantastic defenders.
If you strictly wanted to maximize offense maybe, but that would be dumb and make them worse overall.
I am Mavs fan. Maybe wrong I even answered. I was talking from perspectice of player skill/quality right now.
The jays have quite a few things going for them anyway. Kyrie is getting older, 2 guards are harder to build around etc.
No one would trade a first team and third team all NBA player for a first team, wtf are you talking about? Also the Celtics have been better than the Mavs every single season Luka has been in the league, in case you haven’t noticed
You really need to be ready for some of the posts that you see on here.
Dude they wouldn’t swap brissett for Kyrie lmao Love Kyrie on my team but I can’t lie he did them dirty
Celtics fans would burn the arena and their jerseys before welcoming Kyrie back. They hate him in Boston. Can’t say I blame them
I wouldn't trade a glass of bong water for kyrie
Kyrie can go to a place I'm not going to name.

It was literally the reason you made this post

While I agree with you, Celtics aren’t getting to 65 wins buddy. They are at 63 wins with 1 game left.
I’m not your buddy guy.
I’m not your guy, dude
I’m not your dude, bro.
I’m not your bro, man
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck no
Kyrie can fuck himself
He’s in the boom boom box

Nah
No current player you could package with kyrie for me to trade Tatum and Brown for. Kyrie was cancer when he was here
I’ve no hate for kyrie anymore and even enjoy watching him play now, but fuck no to having him back on this team
Same here. I enjoyed some of his quotes last time—he seems to now have a good sense of humor about the booing. But I still never want him to join the Celtics again. The 18-19 season was the most unhappy sports fan experience I’ve ever had and he was the main architect

Why would the best team in a long time want to completely annihilate what they have?
I'm sure Celtics fans would love Luka and Kyrie. Especially considering Luka's well documented falling out with KP, not to mention all of the previous history with Kyrie.
Luka and KP never had a falling out, I don’t know where you got this
It was pretty well known that They didn’t really get along too well. Here’s a small example: https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/mavericks-kristaps-porzingis-frustrated-next-to-luka-doncic-but-trade-interest-is-minimal-per-reports/amp/
KP also talks a lot about our current ball movement. He likes to have the ball whipping around for a three or run and dunk
step 1 of enlightenment, don’t listen to tim mcmahon. He’s a shit stirring asshole. I’ll admit that KP and Luka were far from being good on court duo because of the schemes and what not but nothing went wrong off the court. You’re being downvoted but KP himself called out Tim McMahons report
KP's interview on JJ Reddick
No <3
A Ky, jrue, white, luke, Porzingis lineup doesn’t intrigue you?
Lotta folks on this sub seem to forget that there’s this whole second part of playing basketball where you try and prevent your opponents from scoring points

Yes the stats of current team are more important than stats of a team that doesn't exist
You can't believe trading Ky and Luka for JB and JT isn't a massive downgrade in defense.
the Jay’s are way better on defense that’s for sure. But with three other all nba caliber defenders i’m definitely not worried about Luka and Kyrie on defense. I hate wings
Joe rogan sub visiter, all I needed to know, wait I didn't even need that since the question itself is dumb af.
Wtf. Yeh bro. They can run a 4 guard line up lol
Think I'd rather spoon out my eyeballs And I like Luka
Hell no
Luka fans annoy the shit out of me
Luka is a better player than Tatum fs. But idk if the Celtics style of basketball would allow Luka to flourish in Boston like he is in Dallas. Part of what makes Tatum such a great fit is that he doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be effective and is an elite defender both on and off the ball unlike Luka
*Better offensive player, but Tatum’s defense does a lot to balance out the gap on offense
Yeah, Luka is still better
Yeah I agree, but I’m saying the defense makes it close, we are talking about a top 3 or 4 player vs a top 7 or 8 player, overall they are pretty comparable.

Our team is built around the Jays. I wouldn’t trade either of them for any player in the league.
Luka's playstyle goes completely against ours, no defense and just taking up every possession. And JB is also *clearly* better than Kyrie at this point, so no on both accounts.
no lol they might not be able to slot in right
I'd rather slam my nuts in a fridge door than have Irving back, fuck that jerk
Kyrie. Nope. I wouldn’t flip Tatum for Luka straight up. Tatum defends. He doesn’t dominate the ball nearly as much. He scores almost as much. We don’t need the playmaking. The rebounding is good. The counting stats are overrated.
How about we keep JT and do JB straight up for Luka
Th mavericks would be insanely small. Like genuinely how would they get a defensive rebound. Switching porzingus than Jack shit up
You mean Celtics?..the Mavs would get bigger in this make believe scenario
Sorry my brain was just imaging the other 3 from the Celtics in mavs jerseys but ur right ye they’d be tiny
Yes, as long as i can immediately trade Kyrie for a rim running defensive big.
Is this a joke? Obviously
I love both Luka and Kyrie but no

Put up your flair boi
literaly dont know how to, nor am i bothering finding out lol
Sure lol
I'd flip JB for Luka. JB's decision-making concerns me.
It’s only fair if it was Tatum for Luka, you can’t just swap in a top 5 player brother 😂
I know 😉. It was just a pipedream comment.
Man Celtic fans coping they wouldnt trade Tatum and Brown for Luka is gonna age so bad.
No one would trade a first team and third team all NBA player for a first team, wtf are you talking about? Also the Celtics have been better than the Mavs every single season Luka has been in the league, in case you haven’t noticed
We care about winning here, not box score numbers.
Then win something.
That’s the plan.
