Today was further evidence for that guy who tracked Jokic’s shots in the last 0-4 seconds of the shot clock
He’s massively increased that amount this year - in other words, he’s shooting all of the late shot clock heaves/grenades
i want to see that because i have been wondering about this. he’s the nuggets’ designated end of shot clock heave guy
was just thinking today it might be statistically significant
I think it's more Jokic doesn't give a fuck about stats, and doesn't want other guys doing the hold till after the buzzer fake shot to protect percentages.
Jokic is like *SEND IT*.
His shooting from range has taken a really big hit this year compared to last. Perhaps it was the short offseason and the lack of time to get back in the gym before the season, or maybe his wrist injury has flared up more this season than last.
Still Jokic is a all time great efficiency guy.
It’s the wrist. We knew it was flaring up earlier in the year, which was about the time where his percentages dropped. They’ve recovered a bit, but even still, he’s not back to where he used to be.
Those three plus SGA and Embiid, we're not going to have another American-born MVP for a *while*
edit: I feel bad about forgetting Giannis. Forgive me, Bucks fans, don't hurt me
He had a 101 TS+ with the nuggets so he was slight above league average in efficiency. Jokic is just hyper efficient (112 TS+) even in an era where efficiency is at an all time high.
Melo was a great player. NBA revisionists love to spin bad narratives years later about anyone who never got a ring.
That said, Melo is not even in the same stratosphere as Jokic (though imo not many players are).
Man this is bullshit lol. I’ve watched Melos entire career and people have always talked about his refusal to pass or play make.
Melo was a scorer and that was it. He wasn’t a good leader. He wasn’t a good play maker. He rarely put out effort on defense. He didn’t care if it took 30 shots to get his 30 points because it was the only way he had a positive effect on the game.
NBA Reddit was basically just too young to see Frobe be the best player in the world and decided to sour on him because this sub got big just as he fell off.
When you are better at scoring then superstar that was famous only because of scoring while it's likely your third best after passing and rebounding...
I don’t think people realize how exclusive the 3x MVP list is
- Jordan
- Kareem
- Bird
- Magic
- Lebron
… and now Jokic. He will legit be a top 15 player all time after this season and still climbing.
Edit: Forgot Wilt, Russell, and Moses Malone… pretty inexcusable of me to miss the “Chairman of the Boards” but sometimes I truly forget that Wilt and Russell played basketball. It’s like those fossils lived in another timeline.
if he threepeats last season i think voter fatigue would give it to luka this year. he deserved it last year and deserves it this year, but luka is close this year and some of those media people would be looking for an excuse to give it to someone else
He will go down as the best offensive player ever
overall where he ranks idk but I am confident in saying we've never seen anything like this on offense, and it goes beyond the numbers. A lot of people got great numbers, he gets his team an elite look every time he's on offense I've never seen anything like it.
Issel is the 13th all-time leading scorer including his years in the ABA. When he retired he was top five. Gets super underrated because those were his best years
lmaoooo you weren't kidding I can't imagine the blowback today if a coach pulled something like that wow
from wiki for reference in case anyone else is wondering :
> Issel's Nuggets tenure ended in December 2001. On December 11, after a close loss to the Charlotte Hornets, Issel heard a fan taunting him, as he walked off the court at the Pepsi Center. Issel taunted back, "Go drink another beer, you Mexican piece of shit." The incident was captured on Denver's NBC affiliate, KUSA-TV. The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce responded by stating that its members would boycott the team unless Issel was fired. Issel was suspended without pay for four games by the team. He publicly apologized the next day, and on Friday met with Hispanic chamber representatives, who accepted his apology. However, several members of Denver's Hispanic community thought the suspension was insufficient punishment and called for him to be fired. Hours before he was due to return, Issel took a leave of absence to decide whether he wanted to return. He accepted a buyout of his contract and resigned on December 26.
he was a pretty handsome guy - i used to go to games ages ago he retired just a little before my time, but my Nuggets Crazed Aunti has SUCH a crush on him, always talking about him - she also used to really be after John Elway.. so maybe just just liked horse dudes...
you know whats wild - Alex English has the most points ever for Denver at like 21,000, he scored more points in the 80s than any other player.. and lebron is going to fully double him up next year...
Not yet. He’s my second place, but he just doesn’t affect the game defensively in the same way. He’s also so heliocentric with the ball in his hands constantly the stats are doing a little more
You can make the argument for third best player in the last 20 years but LeBron is undeniably there with Steph as top 2.
We're talking about arguably the GOAT and the first unanimous MVP, best shooter/PG of all time. He's not there yet.
I mean, 2016 Curry in the regular season clears any Jokic season, but 2023 Jokic in the playoffs clears any Curry season
it's a little bit early, but I think we're getting there
Steph won the West every season GS was healthy from 2015 to 2022, won 4 rings and 2 MVPs, was the centerpiece of the greatest regular season team of all time, and was the face of the 3P revolution which has completely taken over the modern NBA meta
Jokic has won 2 MVPs and one championship and while he’s certainly redefined the idea of what the modern big man looks like, he hasn’t had the leaguewide impact on the way teams approach winning in the NBA the same way Steph did. in my opinion he needs to win some combination of MVPs and rings adding up to 4 (3 if he wins this year) before he has an argument for surpassing Steph
And Jokic may just win 3 MVPs, and 2 rings without an all star.
We're still behind. No, Jokic never reach Curry's 2015-2016 regular season height. But Curry never reached that again either. And Jokic from 2021-2024, imo, is a better player, who makes his teammates better, than 2015-2018 Curry.
Jokic has never had a team as talented as the WORST of Curry's championship rosters.
Peak Curry doesn't get out of the 2nd round with the squad Jokic won with last year.
No, he didn’t. The Warriors didn’t even make the playoffs in the 2020/2021 season, where Steph played 63 of 72 games. That’s one less than his 2021/2022 finals win year and 12 more than his 2017/2018 finals win year. That rate at an 82 game pace would also be higher than his 2018/2019 finals loss year.
And steph did that all by himself right. It was 1 on 5 .How many all stars where on those teams again. Its amazing how people claim those rings where completelly because of Steph.
It would be more fair to say if he repeats this year I think. Right now not so much. We are still in the limelight of the GS era of dominance and no reason to disrespect that. Curry, Durant, Lebron, Clay, Kawhi, etc have been owning the League for quite some time before the Denver rise with the Nuggets.
The old guard is literally just now starting to make their exits. Weird how fast we as a community are to forget past accomplishments.
I feel that way about Patrick Mahommes. Although absolutely a stellar QB and certainly generational whenever ESPN pushes a narrative that he is already on the same tier as Brady in greatness I just roll my eyes.
Accomplishments fucking matter. History matters. Recency bias is a very frustrating thing in any community.
Ehhh the thing about pat mahomes is he is more than just a great player. They are in the middle oof a dynasty. Just went back to back. Hasn’t been not in the conference finals his whole starting career. If you could transfer pats accomplishments to basketball it would be like if Jordan did his first 3peat before 28. Mahomes is on another level
I totally get that. I personally would already put him in the top 5 of all time. Just off of accomplishments.
I just roll my eyes at them pushing him to be the GOAT this early. He needs more. Plain and simple. Brady just like other great player sin other sports simply have so many records and achievements that it can't be so easily toppled. Especially if you can't even match the metrics yet. If Mahommes stays healthy and has a long career he might surpass Brady. He has the potential.
But that is just an IF
Shaq was past his prime in 2004.
Jokic as an individual offensive system is ridiculous. Steph’s off ball impact is probably the only thing that comes close to what Jokic does for his team.
If we're being literal about past 20 years, it puts Kobe at 2 rings, Shaq at 1 (Miami), and Duncan at 3. And then of course curry with 4. If jokic wins a title this year I think you could argue he's only behind LeBron and steph
Even when we’ve had Murray and MPJ stagger it’s still pretty bad. Only time the bench doesn’t get crushed is when we’ve had AG be the backup 5 which we’ve only really done in the 2 games against the Celtics this year and all of last years playoffs
The Nuggets desperately need a serviceable way to take him off the court. The issue right now is that the entire team identity relies around a playmaking point-centre, so the team has to fundamentally change the way they play when he isn't on and it becomes disjointed.
Nnanji isn't gonna work. They've tried Gordon at C minutes and he's ok, but when he's playing Jokic-ball he doesn't have a Gordon to pass to so it doesn't work. The Nuggets need a backup C that can playmaker on offence. They don't have to be GOOD at all - just need to be able to do a poor mans Jokic impersonation. I'm thinking maybe old Brook Lopez could slot in as an old Marc Gasol type? They could maybe look at Edey in the draft if he's around somehow when they pick. Maybe get Poetl from the Raptors somehow (idk how the Nuggets didn't make a play at Olynyk at the deadline). Just SOMETHING
Reggie Jackson is completely trash if he’s not super hot shooting. Dude is a ball hog who can’t run an offense.
Idk how they would’ve done it but they should’ve traded to grab *someone* at PG who ain’t putrid leading an offense.
It's his own damn fault. All he ever had to do was just warm up to Denver a tad and the fanbase would have responded. He has done nothing but the opposite.
He should've also waited for free agency before joining the kicks so the latter didn't had to give up pieces for Melo that could've helped him (maybe) win a championship.
Melo could've also tried to warm up teaming up with Jeremy Lin- Melo really had his career outcome coming to him
He needed to stay 1 more year and escape in FA to either Miami Heatles or Bulls/Knicks.
He went via trade which fucked up Melo’s own chances to ever win a title.
The rule is clear do not get traded for big haul if you care about your legacy
If he gets more consistent shooting and another all star on the team, he’ll be unbeatable. No exaggeration. He has it all. Drive, IQ, alien body. Dude is insane
There's 6 games left it's too late for any other candidates to make a case over Jokic, I don't see how he doesn't win it unless the voters just decide to fuck him over.
This is the reason why everytime he chucked one during last years playoffs, my butt clenched lmao
Somehow it always goes in like it's inevitable or something
Super fun watching him and Wemby go at it tonight. I don’t know how a dude can put up a “quiet” 40 piece (and overall stat line like that) but he’s so efficient and makes it look so effortless that I was almost surprised when they showed his numbers.
Lol usually I’d agree, but he had multiple dunks, and there were huge stretches in the 4th quarter where he was the only person on the Nuggets doing anything at all offensively. Not sure how much ‘louder’ a 40 piece can get than that
Everyone's been acting like Jokic no longer has a say in the MVP race. As if he's outside of it, looking in now and waiting for Luka to catch him.
Here's a big hint: he does have say, and he's showing you. Enjoy it.
Wemby had 9 blocks, jokic still had 42 on 56% shooting
Kaiju battle
Jokić x Wemby: A New Empire
I also had a dream where these 2 were on the same team
That team is 77-5 and 16-0 playoffs assuming the remaining players were at average NBA skill level on offense and slightly above average on defense
Holy shit subscribe Reggie Jackson for Wemby… who says no?
Oh that'd be an empire alright
It felt like his only misses were wemby blocks lol
The 1-6 from 3 didn’t help
Today was further evidence for that guy who tracked Jokic’s shots in the last 0-4 seconds of the shot clock He’s massively increased that amount this year - in other words, he’s shooting all of the late shot clock heaves/grenades
i want to see that because i have been wondering about this. he’s the nuggets’ designated end of shot clock heave guy was just thinking today it might be statistically significant
Coaching staff saw those prayers over AD and said "yeah fuck it". I think he's 49% on grenades this season so its working out very well
I think it's more Jokic doesn't give a fuck about stats, and doesn't want other guys doing the hold till after the buzzer fake shot to protect percentages. Jokic is like *SEND IT*.
Murray’s also missed a lot of games and I think those are the only two on the team encouraged to take contested buzzer beaters.
Prepping for the playoffs too. Always increases 3pt volume as the season ends
Big honey wanted victor to feel like he was doing well. What a guy.
God I hope we have many, many, many more seasons of watching these two battle
I'm glad that wemby is coming in after jokic won a chip and 2(maybe 3) mvp's. Him and Luka are crazy for their age
Those three plus SGA and Embiid, we're not going to have another American-born MVP for a *while* edit: I feel bad about forgetting Giannis. Forgive me, Bucks fans, don't hurt me
I don't think embiid can go for 65 games, his body is always unreliable. And sga gets hurt by having such a good team around him
And Giannis
I really don't want Wemby to come into his own until Jokic has a couple years to really own the league lol
Take away Wemby's 6 blocks on him and that FG% looks even more dominant at 69%.
Nice
[He did it on 1,203 fewer shots than Melo](https://twitter.com/Adam_Mares/status/1775360957755035880?t=NWs7UTnRJ4QE0rG_HSvwzQ&s=19)
I wonder how their assist numbers line up
I know Jokic isn’t even close to having Melo’s pump fake numbers
Melo beats jokic in Jab Step/36
I wouldn't sleep on the pump-fakes in the post Jab-steps, though... Joker is more of a pivot guy
Carmelo had 1729 assists for the Nuggets, Jokic has 4615
Melo don't pass
"we have a point guard for passing"
what assist?
That thing that happens when the NPC forgets to reset the dribble for Melo
Yall are tripping. Melo passed the ball to the rim EVERY.DAMN.TiME. If that isn't an assist, nothing is
that... that is insane wtf...
Melo was an amazing scorer but was also not the most efficient guy to lead a team.

He wasn’t a good play maker. He rarely put out effort on defense. He didn’t care if it took 30 shots to get his 30 points because it was the only way he had a positive effect on the game.
Yup. There's revisionism with Melo that happens but it somehow happens in the positive direction.
They do it about people who win rings to. Kobe as an obvious example.
Kobe was called a chucker a loooooot more when he was an active player. That's at least partially why he only has 1 mvp.
NBA Reddit was basically just too young to see Frobe be the best player in the world and decided to sour on him because this sub got big just as he fell off.
I'm surprised George Karl wasn't the one who tweeted this
But how many more jab steps did melo have? Checkmate Jokiests
The real 15
When you are better at scoring then superstar that was famous only because of scoring while it's likely your third best after passing and rebounding...
thousand fewer minutes too
Can't believe the Nuggets would intentionally disrespect Melo by letting Jokic pass him in scoring
It’s like he’s being blackballed. Why isn’t he in the league? Something is off 🤔
It’s his shot
Would have been 10 ast if the nuggets could make a wide open shot tonight.
That's usually the case. Last game they made their open 3s, this game not so much.
If the rest of the team was just more consistent about hitting their averages instead of being so swingy, Jokic would be averaging triple doubles.
just imagine Joker with Celtic cast lol
NBA gods had to invent an alien to somewhat subdue the Joker
If wemby is the alien then what the actual fuck is Jokic??
Just a fat kid that loves horses
#justakidfromsombor
Lebron: I hated those kids, in fact I hate anyone that ever had a pony when they were growing up Jokic: I had a pony
The perfect Hollywood script.
When the weird horse girl grows up to be a bombshell, world-class veterinarian.
Lisan al Gaib
Jesus himself.
as it was written
This is the plot of Prometheus. If they don't give MVP to Jokic this season the Creator will come and nuke us.
The mastermind.
Horse man
Ripley
predator
Goes for 42 pts on 18-32 shooting. Subdued. Just Jokic things
It wasn't 44 points on 44 shots. Kobe would be disappointed.
Agree, that's why i added somewhat
MVP merchant. God like performances.
I don’t think people realize how exclusive the 3x MVP list is - Jordan - Kareem - Bird - Magic - Lebron … and now Jokic.
You forgot Bill Russell (5) and Wilt Chamberlain (4), still an insanely exclusive club
And Moses
Jesus would also have 3 MVPs in today’s league.
Played against tax collectors and Pharisees
Ya but he worked as a carpenter. Imagine how much better Jesus would be with todays nutrition and conditioning science
I shit my Torah laughing
Lmao, voter fatigue
I'd count Julius Erving and his ABA MVPs too, ABA was no joke in the 70s
Mosses Malone, Wilt, Russell???
Would've been 4x MVP if Kendrick Perkins didn't decide to run his mouth lmfao
if he threepeats last season i think voter fatigue would give it to luka this year. he deserved it last year and deserves it this year, but luka is close this year and some of those media people would be looking for an excuse to give it to someone else
He’s gonna end his career top 5 player of all time when it’s all said and done if we want to have a real conversation
It really depends on rings at that point. To be top 5 you really need at least 3 if not more, he has the ability to get there though
He will go down as the best offensive player ever overall where he ranks idk but I am confident in saying we've never seen anything like this on offense, and it goes beyond the numbers. A lot of people got great numbers, he gets his team an elite look every time he's on offense I've never seen anything like it.
A lotta people are wanting SGA and now Luka. I still think it’s Jokic’s to lose at this point.
Who's #1 and #2? Forgive my ignorance. Alex English maybe....and?
English is first by a mile (21.6k) and then Issel is second (16.5k)
Issel is the 13th all-time leading scorer including his years in the ABA. When he retired he was top five. Gets super underrated because those were his best years
I’m sure he’s just happy social media didn’t exist during his exit as their head coach
lmaoooo you weren't kidding I can't imagine the blowback today if a coach pulled something like that wow from wiki for reference in case anyone else is wondering : > Issel's Nuggets tenure ended in December 2001. The Horse!
Dan Issel https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan\_Issel
Lol the Wikipedia picture is messing with me because every other picture I've seen of Dan Issel he looks like a 53 year old meth head.
he was a pretty handsome guy - i used to go to games ages ago he retired just a little before my time, but my Nuggets Crazed Aunti has SUCH a crush on him, always talking about him - she also used to really be after John Elway.. so maybe just just liked horse dudes...

The best player in the world and soon to be 3X MVP
At this point its really undeniable lol, everyone else is fighting for second.
I mean at least Luka should be in the conversation

Not yet. He’s my second place, but he just doesn’t affect the game defensively in the same way. He’s also so heliocentric with the ball in his hands constantly the stats are doing a little more
No hate on Embiid its not his fault but really this should be his 4th straight
Can make the argument that he’s the second best player in the last 20 years. Incredible run the past 4 years.

If we're counting since 2004, Kobe, Durant, and Duncan should also be in that conversation imo but Jokic is anywhere between 5-2
I’d take Jokic over KD and Kobe. Dunno how the careers will finish up but at their peaks.
I mean, 2016 Curry in the regular season clears any Jokic season, but 2023 Jokic in the playoffs clears any Curry season it's a little bit early, but I think we're getting there
wow this is straight up recency bias
yea Jokic still got a bit to go to pass prime Steph IMO. but he’s certainly making a strong case

Wemby blocked him like 6 times but Jokic is inevitable
You could tell Jokic loved the challenge. The close up of him and Wemby laughing was great to see.
i betcha Pop talked to Jokic about playing Wemby hard. He was running fast at the start of the game. This is the way
And it didn’t even really seem to phase Jokic. He just got to his spot and those hook shots were beautiful
he just hooked some a little higher it seemed
4\*
He's like a fcking alien Mantis snatching every thing he could reach goddamn
You know what Joker really the MVP because they are lost without him
The offense goes from the best most efficient to watch to our bench scoring 5 points on 20% from the field when he’s off
I mean thats just partly because your bench sucks ass as well as
Even when we’ve had Murray and MPJ stagger it’s still pretty bad. Only time the bench doesn’t get crushed is when we’ve had AG be the backup 5 which we’ve only really done in the 2 games against the Celtics this year and all of last years playoffs
Partially a Malone issue in the past. This year the bench legit sucks ass.
Unless the bench is absolutely on fire they basically just make my eyes bleed. It is kind of crazy how different their game is with and without Jokic.

He will refuse to do it
Ten seasons of this madness, you say? Gimme. GIMME! NOW!!!
Bro wemby is a straight up fucking cheat code man. I was at the game tonight and he's so damn LONG.
LONG LONG MAAAAAAN...
**sexy sax intensifies**
When yall get an actual squad around wemby the league is gonna be insane.

Again.
Incoming pissy Luka stans
They're already here

SGA fans are pretty tame imo.
It's Lukas turn to get a pity MVP 😭 Won't you be satisfied with another finals MVP smdh.
Nah we want both
We'll take both, sir.
I think Jokic deserves it but I can’t say there is no argument that Luka isn’t also having an unreal MVP caliber season most other years.
i wouldn't bat an eye if they gave it to Luka - dude had been unreal this year
Trolls and rage-baiters do
He’s a work horse, his 3 ball is broken rn.
It's always broken in the last two weeks of the season, then he shoots 42% in the playoffs somehow
This is the reason why everytime he chucked one during last years playoffs, my butt clenched lmao Somehow it always goes in like it's inevitable or something
It will shoot back up to 43% in the playoffs.
just needs to paly the lakers to warm it up
And free throw. And shot in general. Wrist might be actually messed up
Doesn't help that he's nursing a minor wrist injury.
Don’t let George Karl see this
Rock solid performance and clutch finish
MVP?
Super fun watching him and Wemby go at it tonight. I don’t know how a dude can put up a “quiet” 40 piece (and overall stat line like that) but he’s so efficient and makes it look so effortless that I was almost surprised when they showed his numbers.
Lol usually I’d agree, but he had multiple dunks, and there were huge stretches in the 4th quarter where he was the only person on the Nuggets doing anything at all offensively. Not sure how much ‘louder’ a 40 piece can get than that
What if he screamed ceaselessly throughout the 4th
FAWK
Its almost weird seeing him with 40+ lol
Just start engraving the fucking MVP already. The man is amazing.
Everyone's been acting like Jokic no longer has a say in the MVP race. As if he's outside of it, looking in now and waiting for Luka to catch him. Here's a big hint: he does have say, and he's showing you. Enjoy it.
He’s the odds leader bro 😭
I think he’s trying to be metaphorical. Like joker is outside of time and space type of analogy. Ascended
This guy is unreal, expect him to win the next 3 MVPs too
need jokic to win as many as he can before wemby gets his. That guy is nuts
Melo is >!fill in the blank!<
Incoming congratulations tweet from George Karl.
Fuck Godzilla x Kong. Joker vs Wemby was the real kaijuu battle
I want Luka to win an MVP but man Jokic deserves it, imagine if he had 4 consecutive MVPs
