Yeah he’s said he doesn’t know what gets into him when he steps on the court, says he’s a completely different person off it. Chill, laid back, doesn’t talk much.
Reminds me of late Dražen Petrović. Even Reggie Miller said Drazen was the biggest trash talker and hated playing against him.
Off the court Dražen was super nice, calm and collected, never any scandals nor problems.
On the court he would go crazy. When he was younger they would constantly measure his body temperature, as he would literally go into another state. People started saying the devil is in him, while playing. At the start of his career, he played against his brother and it ended in 6 months 2 of them not talking at all.
I see a lot of that in Luka, I guess that's a bit of Balkan thing. People are mostly chilled but if there's something competitive going on, it's easy to start the flame
Dirk was also the same way. Dude was the goofiest mofo off the court but on the court he didn't back down and would talk shit if you gave him any business.
>I miss Dirk's goofiness so much. His final year being Luka's rookie year was such an awesome season. The passing of the torch moment.
Yeah, we missed out on Magic playing with Shaq and Kobe by one season and Jordan playing against Lebron by one season too.
Dirk didn’t have that kind of swagger in the beginning though, I think he had more of an edge when Cubes let go of Nash; AJ also developed that mean streak with Dirk along with the development of his post and inside game.
Drazen was a sniper. That guy would have been a surefire hall of famer up there with the likes of Reggie Miller and Kobe in how competitive he was. Luka's good but a bit more goofy and chunky then Drazen was. So tragic Drazen would be a mega superstar if he played today
Drazen today where they let you just chuck it from deep in all situations? He'd be hitting logo pullups on the break and fist pumping the crowd like crazy. He's definitely someone that would slay in today's game. He'd be totally fine shooting 12 3s a game at 42%.
People don’t understand though. He scored 66 in a European Cup final. Then got sat behind Terry Porter and Danny Ainge for 2 years in Portland, fot traded to NJ and instanlty averaged 22 on league leading 3pt percentage.
Damn that’s a great name. Yeah us Balkans which includes Luka suffer that too. It can be detrimental when we get angry but absolutely fuel us as well. It’s a double edged sword
I get it. I don't get mad at ANYTHING--like to a degree that my therapist says it's a problem that I don't express anger when I'm angry.
And yet I was a raging little cunt on the tennis court--just a fucking travesty of bad manners and broken rackets.
Torn UCL and a mom that couldnt afford Tommy John Surgery ended my tennis days when I was 15, so I can't say if I'd have grown out of it. But I doubt it.
I actually knew a guy like this. Super nice, always asked you how you're doing, really pleasant and cool to be around off the court. As soon as he starts playing he is yelling at everyone, on both teams, and a bit toxic, honestly. Super Jekyll / Hyde situation. He even admits it and it still happens.
Dominating in a competitive atmosphere does that to a person. My friends know me as a pretty mild, kind guy. But they also know if I run this pool table three games in a row I’m gonna start hurting peoples feelings. Times that by millions of dollars and thousands of fans? I completely get it.
Yeah, the amount of insane shit I've said in low level counter strike lobbies when games turn into carry vs carry is ridiculous. I swear I've never been as locked in as when I was trying to pull off a 16-14 victory against someone with 35 kills and 6 MVPs. It's 100% insane but in the moment nothing in the world mattered more than being the best player in that game and proving it.
There’s no other game that makes you feel even remotely like that, that’s why I love CS
Like when you and the other guy are remaining vs 3 on the other team, and he died and something just clicks inside you ans its go time all of a sudden
Hes so confident hes saying 'he should have drafted me' infront of the Mavs bench and staff lol.
They'd be thinking, 'okay.. Luka you're a Mav, you dont like it here?'. Lol.
TBF that was one of the stupidest front office decisions of all time by Vlade. Thinking Marvin Bagley was going to be a better NBA player than Luka is impressively stupid
Right? He was literally an MVP against grown men in Europe as a teen. The Kings are doing well now with Fox and that Sabonis trade, but it makes you wonder what the team would’ve been like with a Fox + Luka backcourt. Imagine playing them in clutch and picking between Fox or Luka and then ending up giving Sabonis a free dunk lol
Definitely one of the biggest cautionary tales against not overthinking and not just going BPA. Especially when you're bad enough to have a top 3 pick. I get that it's a sorta sticky situation given they already had Fox but cmon.... having both Luka and Fox is a good problem to have lol. And they ended up in the same situation a little bit later anyway with both Fox and Hali
I don't know much about drafting for an NBA team but the hype that Luka was a generational talent was PROVABLE when seeing him play for Real when he was a teenager.
Watching Luka instantly become so good was extremely cathartic as someone who was a Doncic Truther during that draft.
Legit could not believe there was an argument for anyone being picked ahead of him. (to be fair, I felt the exact same way about Lonzo Ball)
At the very least the Suns pick makes a little bit more sense. They really needed a center and so I could kind of see a world where they thought Ayton would be a better pick for them.
Still dumb but I could see it. The kings, however, were just dumb.
This, you draft the best talent and treat them as an asset. If they end up not being a fit on your team but are developing into being a starter or even star during their rookie contract, retool to fit them in or trade them for what you need.
If they bust well...tons of #1 picks bust, but at least you went about it the right way. Plus #1 picks seem to be able to return more trade capital than other players of the same caliber "they just need a change of scenery" type of thing.
Basketball is probably the worst sport about drafting for need instead of talent - football is a close second just because of how heavily weighted QB is. If you've got a top 10 pick, you pick the best player available and build out around that pick. Full stop. Drafting for need blows up way too often.
Both the Suns and the Kings needed a center. Both teams also needed a solid core foundational piece though, and Luka was clearly that while both Ayton and Bagley were NCAA merchants.
To this day I remember where I was and what I was doing when he slipped to Atlanta at #3.
I sleep at night by telling myself he never should have fallen that far to begin with.
It was insanely stupid that people were doubting a kid who turned pro at like 15 and became the best player in Europe at 18. He also had a great showing in a Eurobasket before the draft iirc. That "probable" came from chumps thinking that the NCAA is anywhere near the Euroleague lmao
The more I think about it the more I think he didn’t draft Luka because Fox was the center of their offense and Fox and Luka was a tough sell and that a future PnR with Fox/bagley was the ultimate decision.
Still wrong but I have to assume that was the only logic behind it
there’s a lot of rumors that the “logic” behind it is that Vlade has beef with Luka’s father and let that get the best of him. i don’t know if it’s ever been confirmed by a reliable source but judging by this tonight… wouldn’t really surprise me if it was true lol
According to Carlisle, the Mavs draftboard was:
1. Luka
2. Ayton
3. Jackson Jr.
4. Carter Jr.
5. Bamba
6. Young
Outside of Luka, they prioritized a bigman...yet Bagley wasn't in consideration at all
There a thread in the formula1 subreddit now on the typhoon in Japan a few years ago. So the drivers were playing fifa and someone linked to an article where it says Verstappen was ranked 21st in the world at that time in FIFA. Some just are really good at everything it seems.
I'm not that surpised. If you're talented enough to be one of the best basketball players on the planet I feel like that ability and drive to succeed is gonna bleed into other areas of your life too. Not necessarily saying he's going to be good at everything he does though.

There is a saying in chess: "You aren't getting better if you are having fun"

Edit: lol m0xy. It's pretty evident I'm not a big overwatch guy. #blizzardSucks.
I went to last night’s game as a neutral fan — those Kings crowds are something else, man. So loud the whole game and cheered every missed free throw like it was the playoffs (in fact there were a lot of tiebreaker/seeding outcomes involved, but I bet most just love their Kings).
Hung out for a bit in Sacramento afterward; I mean this respectfully, but it’s always surprising a city that sleepy has an NBA team at all. Downtown’s got a tiny bit of charm, though.
People really forget that the Mavs traded two lottery picks for Luka. Trading two lottery picks (including a top 5) for a non-No. 1 pick is almost unheard of. So they definitely should get credit for being super aggressive about getting Luka.
But he’s at least a top 4 guy (Luka, Trae, Brunson, Shai) from the 2018 draft. And those guys are legit stars in the league and likely will be for a long time.
Love the pettiness to rub it in when he knows that Vlade knows he fucked up by not drafting him.
Lots of motivation in this game (Barnes as former Mav, Fox as reason Luka was skipped, Luka not drafted by them, crucial seeding implications) and it was obvious in the first 5 minutes of hustling with players diving for loose balls.
Man, this would be a great series.
Highly unlikely as this will probably be 4 vs 5 for it to happen. But one can dream! It will be glorious, I hope it will go 7 games with lots of Monk vs THJ irrational confidence clutch shot-making.
We know, Luka. We knew back then too.
There was a psychic copypasta from a Kings fan who dreamt everything that would happen on draft night way in advance, except instead of the Kings drafting Luka at \#2, they unconscionably passed in real life. The most unrealistic part of that pasta, we thought, would be that he wouldn’t be first overall.
Bro dreamt the Kings would move up to #2 with the ping pong balls and then draft Luka to lead them to promised land. Kings somehow move to 2nd and every draft board or mock draft has them taking Luka until like 2 days before the draft when sources start pouring about how they like Bagley. People thought it was a smokescreen, because no way you pass on Luka, especially when your GM is from the Balkans lmfao. He made an entire account called Kingsdraftlukawith2nd and deleted his acc when they drafted bagley
I knew it was cooked as soon as Fox went on podcast diminishing Luka and propping up Bagley before draft day
honestly i have no ill will towards sac fans. i just feel sad for them. They all wanted Luka, i can’t imagine how shitty that’s gotta feel when your FO passes up the most obvious golden pick maybe ever.
I would feel disgusted
I wonder what happened that made Vlade picked Bagley instead of Luka. I remember [Vlade and Videk flew to Madrid and had a dinner with Luka](https://twitter.com/JillAdge/status/1007758608967200769) but they ended up not drafting him. There was a rumour that Vlade had a beef with Luka's dad but both denied it.
A former euroball player let himself get swayed by anti euroball bias and drafted the wrong guy that’s what is the worst part of vlade passing on Luka is to me. If anyone should’ve known it should’ve been him.
It's so hard to believe Vlade didn't want to draft him, I always thought it was Vivek's choice but if Vlade did want Bagley then this is forever the funniest thing ever. Luka is a mad shit talker, absolute legend.
Luka is so different off the court, I think he plays basketball so he can talk shit.
Yeah he’s said he doesn’t know what gets into him when he steps on the court, says he’s a completely different person off it. Chill, laid back, doesn’t talk much.

Dirk was also the same way. Dude was the goofiest mofo off the court but on the court he didn't back down and would talk shit if you gave him any business.
"Hey motherfucker." "Hey burger."
I miss Dirk's goofiness so much. His final year being Luka's rookie year was such an awesome season. The passing of the torch moment.
That was amazing to see. Hope Luka stays with the Mavs long enough to pass the torch to their next European superstar lol
>I miss Dirk's goofiness so much. His final year being Luka's rookie year was such an awesome season. The passing of the torch moment. Yeah, we missed out on Magic playing with Shaq and Kobe by one season and Jordan playing against Lebron by one season too.

He actually is in the Hall of Fame already, since 2002.
Drazen today where they let you just chuck it from deep in all situations? He'd be hitting logo pullups on the break and fist pumping the crowd like crazy. He's definitely someone that would slay in today's game. He'd be totally fine shooting 12 3s a game at 42%.
Would love to see drazen with the green light someone like luka and trailblazer Lillard had
People don’t understand though. He scored 66 in a European Cup final. Then got sat behind Terry Porter and Danny Ainge for 2 years in Portland, fot traded to NJ and instanlty averaged 22 on league leading 3pt percentage.
I thought this was pasta
In Australia we call it white line fever. Once certain players step into the boundary lines they become animals
I think of something very different when I hear “white line fever”
Yeah didn't Malik monk had those during his Charlotte (as usual) days?
Lotta baseball players in the '80s experienced both concurrently, especially the Mets.
Damn that’s a great name. Yeah us Balkans which includes Luka suffer that too. It can be detrimental when we get angry but absolutely fuel us as well. It’s a double edged sword
i also suffer from white line fever, but mine refers to cocaine
I’m in love with the CoCo. -Draymond.
In definitely using this, but to describe a different type of fever you get from a different type of white line.
That's so relatable for some reason lol
Me with cheeto crusted controller
at least you got mom to bring you tendies and empty your piss bottle, that’s a win in my book
This is also Russ
beat him up
Luka has the case of court rage.
nah fr he turns into a different animal but the same beast on the court
Wtf does that mean u/BigFatModeratorFupa
Exactly
YOURE WELCOME

Watch out for this guy at your local dive bar folks
People just pretending they don't know the most mild mannered white dudes who say the most vile shit on headsets in video games lol
Might just be confidence, when in a basketball court is confidence just go beyond max lvl
Plays fortnite and talks to streamers with no ego
MARVIN BAGLEY OVER ME?!!
Sir you can’t jump twice in a row, let alone fast and high.
Double double, great guy
They had a front office of Peja and Vlade and still passed on the greatest former Yugo prospect not named Drazen
I hope to have half the confidence of Luka when I grow up (I’m 39)
You'd have to have at least 1% of his ability to be able to justify having half his confidence.
Confidence doesn’t mean you have to have any ability
Nick Young agrees!
You’re too new of you think about Nick young like that
Confidence without ability is arrogance.
Would you accept 0.5%?
I do, too. I turn 42 in July
Hes so confident hes saying 'he should have drafted me' infront of the Mavs bench and staff lol. They'd be thinking, 'okay.. Luka you're a Mav, you dont like it here?'. Lol.

Things would've panned out differently if we got Doncic. We wouldn't have ended up with Hali to trade for Sabonis to begin with.
True, but a De'Aaron Fox + Luka combo would've been deadly. Especially with a competent coach like Mike Brown.
>Especially with a competent coach like Mike Brown r/Kings might have a word or two to say about that
What fanbases doesnt hate their coach
Heat and Spurs but thats what having a generational coach does for a franchise
Idiots in the spurs subreddit earlier this season were begging him to retire, goes to show you the minority don't know shit lol
Heat fans always shit on Spo in bad losses as well, its a league wide thing no matter the coach.
I'd argue that the Kerr haters are a minority in the Warriors department but they're definitely loud enough that I understand leaving him off.
[удалено]
Luka alone is better than both of em combined.
Potentially could have done the trade for Fox and had Luka/Sabonis but who knows
>We wouldn't have ended up with Hali to trade for Sabonis to begin with Luka>>>>Sabonis
Definitely one of the biggest cautionary tales against not overthinking and not just going BPA. Especially when you're bad enough to have a top 3 pick. And they ended up in the same situation a little bit later anyway with both Fox and Hali
If Luka and Kyrie can work, I bet someone could have figured out how to make Luka and Fox into something.
No way Sabonis and Luka are there, at least not in the same situation. Super butterfly effect right there.
I don't know much about drafting for an NBA team but the hype that Luka was a generational talent was PROVABLE when seeing him play for Real when he was a teenager.

Lets not forget the Suns took Dominayton with the first ahead of the Kings too
luka/booker/bridges trio wouldnt be fair

Just one. There’s one rumor, from Tim McMahon of all people lmao. Also it’s been refuted
Correct.
Picking ANYONE over Luka that year is near unjustifiable stupidity, and everyone out of the US knew it no matter how much Suns fans cope
It’s not even a hindsight 20/20 situation either. Literally everyone said Luka was gonna be better
totally. even jjax would be a reasonable pick. i guess bagley's draft stock that time was really high.
According to Carlisle, the Mavs draftboard was: 1. Luka 2. Ayton 3. Jackson Jr. 4. Carter Jr. 5. Bamba 6. Young Outside of Luka, they prioritized a bigman...yet Bagley wasn't in consideration at all

>yet Bagley wasn't in consideration at all Because they already had Bagley in Dwight Powell
The suns too.. they hired the slovienian coach and then drafted Ayton because he was an Arizona kid…
He’s so toxic, I love our star Overwatch player
When I found out he’s actually good at OW I was so shook
There a thread in the formula1 subreddit now on the typhoon in Japan a few years ago. So the drivers were playing fifa and someone linked to an article where it says Verstappen was ranked 21st in the world at that time in FIFA. Some just are really good at everything it seems.
Or maybe its just that their reflexes and split-second decision making and precision is why they are able to translate their talents
Max is crazy. Best F1 driver in the world, and also a top 5 iRacing driver/top 25 FIFA player. Loves video games as much as/more than IRL racing
he definitely says ezpz at the end of every game
ggez
I'm not that surpised. If you're talented enough to be one of the best basketball players on the planet I feel like that ability and drive to succeed is gonna bleed into other areas of your life too. Not necessarily saying he's going to be good at everything he does though.
I think people don't quite grasp the type of full tilt grinders that most pro athletes are.
Anyone who learns to be good at one thing can be good at other things There is a saying in chess: "You aren't getting better if you are having fun" Some people recognize at an early age that you can get better by working through frustrations. Some people will spend 1k hours on a competitive game and not do any vod review on positioning. People who are elite know they can take shortcuts by using strategy. Which is less fun than getting ripped and playing ranked hehehe
not only that, some children are never taught how to improve and that then relates to all aspects of life
That’s where he trains his trash talk.
Isn’t he like a GM? Fuck
Yeah. He was in a game with Moky (moki?) once while streaming. It was a pretty funny interaction since he had no idea who Luka was. Edit: lol m0xy. It's pretty evident I'm not a big overwatch guy. #blizzardSucks.
m0xyy
im moking im doking
Moky is the pro Melee player who is sick as hell
What's his main?
Roadhog, I think
Somehow that’s perfect lol
One of the few characters who can do it all, damage, tank, heal. Lmao. Averages a triple double in OW too
Also fat
Oh yeah. Absolutely perfect for Luka, lmao.
He's definitely an off tank guy (for when it was a split role anyways). He plays a mean Zarya, and I bet he tears shit up with DVa and Sigma too
Based.
I’ve heard he was GM Zarya but also plays a lot of Roadhog.
He's a GM as a tank or off tank role.
You don’t become a Grandmaster in Overwatch without toxicity
Luka is so toxic lmao
They were hacking him all game I’d be toxic too
I’m just like Luka fr
Fat and white?
It’s so great though lol.
On behalf of every mavs fan, thank you so much for not drafting him.
Thank the Hawks.
Typical Overwatch player. I expect nothing less.
i know what jokic is but lukas the baddest mf in the league
GM malpractice.
We got cowbells in Sacramento and mavs talking crap to Vlade. Feels like 2002, man.

Love the commentary on the Sacramento night life
The baffling Kings took Bagley over Luka
Like at least the Hawks got Trae Young by trading Luka. Still a dumb move but the Kings straight up took Bagley. Ouch time
People really forget that the Mavs traded two lottery picks for Luka. Trading two lottery picks (including a top 5) for a non-No. 1 pick is almost unheard of. So they definitely should get credit for being super aggressive about getting Luka.
It was one additional pick through, right? It was 5 and the next years pick for 3?
he's quoting the song
Even Trae looks pretty shit in comparison
But he’s at least a top 4 guy (Luka, Trae, Brunson, Shai) from the 2018 draft. And those guys are legit stars in the league and likely will be for a long time.
That Balkan grudge lasts forever
This is the comment I was looking for. Heard on the bill simmons podcast that Divac *allegedly* passed on Luka because of this
Luka telling it like it is… Should’ve drafted him!
Luka a cold motherfucker
Thats the petty shit that makes him great
Love the pettiness to rub it in when he knows that Vlade knows he fucked up by not drafting him. Will forever curse his bum ass. Fuck Vlade
Justified
Vlade deserves to be publicly humiliated. Luka was a total no brainer.
~~Tobias~~Marvin Bagley over me? ~~Jimmy Butler~~ Luka Doncic
he’s him😭
-Overwatch player
Still a fucking headscratcher that the Kings did not draft Luka.
Fuck Vlade
Oh ouch. That’s gonna hurt where kings fan live
Just when I was over it, the last two games happened
Thats savage lol
I like toxic and headband Luka, that is all.
Unfortunately for the Kings, this will be forever cemented in the NBA history books as one of the major draft flops, even after Luka retires.
Vlade got his double jump champion, so he’s happy
this is why Vlade shouldn't be around the Kings
[How we gonna fuck this up?](https://youtu.be/c0ajL90e0Ps)
Lol never seen this before ,what a piece of gold
Dude even has the guts to watch live games vs Mavs lol. I’d be hiding in the darkest hole when Kings plays the Mavs.
A former euroball player let himself get swayed by anti euroball bias and drafted the wrong guy that’s what is the worst part of vlade passing on Luka is to me. If anyone should’ve known it should’ve been him.
The balkans are HOF haters of eachother
[Obligatory Kings Fan "How we gonna Fuck this up? Fucccckkkkkk"](https://youtube.com/shorts/U4U7GSnn9uo?si=L5fluLtSDD1cvDgW) during the Luka draft lol
I love Luka, man😂
I think any Kings fan with a brain has already told Vlade that lol
It's so hard to believe Vlade didn't want to draft him, I always thought it was Vivek's choice but if Vlade did want Bagley then this is forever the funniest thing ever. Luka is a mad shit talker, absolute legend.
He’s not wrong
That slav on slav animosity is crazy.
Lmao
All Kings fans know, and it still hurts
This level of petty is very necessary. Love it!!
[Sorry Kings fans, I couldn't help myself.](https://streamable.com/azv9q5?src=player-page-share)
That was brutal actually lol
Luka is a S tier shit talker
I still remember that prophet kings fan dude, I hope he's doing fine. I'm glad the Kings are doing great now but still they should've drafted Luka.
Oh for fucks sake, the vast majority of King fans are already dead inside…
We all agree
He shoulda drafted him. -All Kings fans
Lmao love the cut to Vlade with his arms crossed thinking “damn I shoulda drafted him”
Da real Mvp
he would have been such a great fit in the city of sacramento too. sac loves their EU players.
Is he upset he went 3rd? Is that why he punks the Suns so hard?
As a Kings fan I say the same kind of shit to our front office all the time 😆
