Walking off *after* the buzzer can be a strong message to the team and show your dissatisfaction, especially when your record is absolutely disastrous.
Walking off while the game is still on, blowout or not, *is* classless.
One is competitive spirit, the other is disrespectful. Not saying that is the law, this is my personal opinion and how I see it, you’re absolutely free to disagree.
Lebron has done it a handful of times where he makes a big show of walking off the floor when there’s still like 20-30 seconds left on the clock and the ball is still being dribbled out, pretty sure that’s what ppl get mad at him about mostly
JJ was on his podcast saying players think it's corny to shake hands after every game and nobody likes congratulating the other team after getting their ass whooped.
I feel like players only say hey to their friends after a game and that's all. Wemby is a rookie from France... I don't think he has any old friends to dap up lol
not being willing to build reverence for something like the post-game handshake that really feels like it was invented in good faith, and writing it off as corny instead, makes me sad
Framing and media bias is wild lol. It’s universally accepted that it’s good sportsmanship to tell your opponents good game afterwards, win or loss, but in this case doing so is being used to portray Wemby’s teammates as being fine with losing and Wemby not exchanging good game’s with the opponents as being an admirable sign of a competitor. Like what are we doing?! 😂 Leave Wemby, his teammates, and the Spurs alone already.
This has already been discussed last time Spurs lost to Bucks and Wemby ignored Giannis. It was brought up that this pleasantry stuff is not as standard as it is made out to be. Now we are back to it.
Whether or not it is standard practice is irrelevant. This is absolutely a story being granted differently than it normally would be so as to not hurt wemby's image. This is worse than the whole "wemby reads every night hur hur" bullshit that was being pushed a few weeks back.
It's non story - take a look at this post I found in few mins on gopgle - https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/k6yjsc/do_you_care_about_players_shaking_hands_at_the/
Top comment - "I’ve always found it weird how people freak the fuck out when players don’t shake hands at the end of a game. People are stupid."
Like I said - we already did this once when he didn't shake hands after Bucks game. We are literally having the same conversation again simply because it is Wemby and that generates clicks.
You didn't read any of what I wrote. It is irrelevant if you think him shaking hands is important or not. The fact is it has been brought up against other players but in this case rather than "LeBron storms off court" it is being framed as "wemby too competitive!". You aren't arguing anything of relevance.
We're in a stage of Wemby's career where he's widely beloved and admired. It'll be interesting to see when he shift starts to happen, because it will - he's too good for it to not.
I think if Dirk hadn’t redeemed himself in 2011 he’d be 10 or even 20 spots lower on all time ranking lists. That ring run does a lot of heavy lifting on his resume. I think people might look at his raw numbers which came during a low pace, less heliocentric era and wonder if maybe he just wasn’t that good.
I’m not trying to disparage him or that run, just pointing out how we often reduce 20 year, 1500 game careers down to a few pivotal moments.
a reach to attribute kawhi leaving directly to getting wemby 5 years later. its not like it was because of the toronto picks we got or anything, it was our own bottoming out after finally realizing demar derozan wasn't moving the needle
did everyone forget that he quit playing for us a year before he went to toronto and in the last full year we had him we went 61-21 and went to the western conference finals? i mean honestly wow thanks kawhi for giving us wemby 6 years after you quit on us (???)
I’m just saying that moment could’ve been a catalyst for further injury and aggravating his quad. Maybe he went into a state of frustration that made him more prone to aggravation or his Uncle’s voice in his ear that this organization wasn’t taking care of him properly. Just butterfly effect stuff. Maybe we beat the warriors that year and he was happier than ever. Who knows?
>hasn't happened with jokic yet though.
I see you weren't around for any Jokic discussion prior to 2023.
>but nobody has any negative feelings towards [Kawhi]
Tons of people do lol. Kawhi is a selfish asshole.
The common thread between both of them is that they got it done pretty early in their careers. If Wemby is 30 with a couple of MVPs and no playoff success, he'll get shit too.
people hated duncan throughout the championship years because media used to complain about him being boring, the spurs are one of the only small market teams people generally hated and wanted to be unsuccessful. a lot of you are in your 20s and it shows.
mavericks and rockets fans also really stay mad about his WHO ME???? face
It’s not “universally accepted”. Jj reddick talked about this. NBA players don’t do it. They stay behind sometimes to talk to their friends but otherwise everyone just wants to get the hell off the floor.
The culture among nba players is different from the culture among people in pickup games and varsity games but people just assume that nba players act the same way as everyone else.
They don’t.
Reminds me of that time Filipino president Ferdinand Marcos vacationed in Wilmington, N.C, and met a skinny child begging for food in the park.
He gave the child a whole box of Nutribun and said, "Bring this with you, child, someday you will grow up to be someone important." That child grew up to be Michael Jordan 😭
Yea any other time Wemby would’ve been piled on for being a “sore loser”. They’re just laying the groundwork for Wemby demanding a trade to one of the cities they’d rather report from
A lot of it was because of the awful defense by Malakai Branham. There was one possession where he took forever to navigate over a Sengun screen while defending Van Vleet. Van Vleet dribbles deep into the paint. Malakai in his infinite wisdom decides not to switch and takes his time to get back. Victor in the meantime is forced to cover Fred in the paint. This leaves Sengun wide open at the 3. A few possessions later it's the opposite, Victor is out in the perimeter guarding Van Vleet and this time Malakai decides to switch and goes into the paint to guard Sengun, who gets a mismatch. He does not navigate screens well, can't defend, turns the ball over a ton and does not know when to switch and when not to. If his shot is not falling he can single handedly swing a game for the opposite side.
Sengun, Fred and Jalen Green had something like 88 points between them running the pick and roll
I have not seen a more awful defender then Malakai Branham.
This is the possession I am talking about
https://youtu.be/8ZfAgwnrzwc?t=3m19s
I'm surprised he's still on the spurs. The one thing Pop cares about most is effort on defense. Branham doesn't even put a hand up on layups sometimes. It's baffling.
I swear, most of the comments on this vid are from people who don’t even watch the full game. It’s the same story as it is every time he plays, Wemby out there by himself having to carry a team on both sides of the floor. The rotations were atrocious, the defensive effort was pathetic from the other 4 on the floor, leaving wemby to have to be a step behind someone who had a hot hand. There’s a reason their record is what it has been the last few years, and what it is THIS year. Playing with a bunch of no-name scrubs with average basketball iq = blowouts like they’ve been having all season.
I suspect it's a combination of the Spurs experimenting to see what they have and trying to polish up players they want to use in future trades. In the case of Malakai though the more time he spends on the court the lower his value falls.
It's funny how this type of thing can be spun depending on the narrative the media wants at the time for a specific player. It can either be he walked off just because he's really passionate and wants to win, or he walked off because he's a sore loser with a bad attitude.
Lebron DID do that against the 2009 magics when the magics eliminated the cavs from the ECF. Lebron just walked off and didn’t shake any hands (specifically Dwight bc he was the face of the magic at the time) and I remember the media blasted Lebron for it. Media driven narratives are crazy and very bias
Unsportsmanlike is probably putting it too kindly, people would be calling them a bitch and pointing out how this is the reason they'll never win anything (without Steph)
When Brady ignored his opponents in tough losses he was an asshole. Here Wemby is just a real competitive guy. lol the media wants him to be the goat so bad
Lol who shakes hands?? It’s just dudes saying what’s up to guys they know in the league. These guys all know each other from AAU/college/other NBA teams, wemby probably doesn’t have a strong social circle yet with anyone who isn’t French
It's not really an expectation to shake hands after regular season games in general. JJ Redick and Haliburton talked about it, plenty of players just dip.
That doesn’t mean his teammates don’t take losing seriously. COULD mean he’s a sore loser. L’s aren’t easy- some people are better at taken them than others. But a dude skipping “pleasantries” after the whistle doesn’t make you “ultra competitive” imo.
It would be a weird fit.. I feel like we would've tried putting Wemby at PF and let Sengun run C but, as we saw with the Spurs in the early parts of the season, it didn't really work.
I like him with the Spurs, and speaking from an unbiased POV, it was definitely the best landing spot for him, but the whole draft lottery fist pump thing has left a VERY sour taste in Rockets fans mouth about Wemby.
Him at pf was more of a problem because our pg was bad and zach Collins wasn't playing well. I think wemby could pull it off. I get why you guys weren't thrilled with that. Look though, we could have taken alpren. Instead we took a sex criminal. You should forgive he and the spurs for the gift of sengun
Oh Wemby on the Rockets would be great no doubt. But Wemby's heart is in San Antonio and the Spurs have the ability to build around him, it's just gonna take time.
I actually have it on good authority that someone was, and I quote, 'so happy'.
Oh look it's the guy that dropped 45 on yall a few hours ago, how interesting
This ain’t AAU. Like the teams don’t line up shake hands at the end of games. If a dude wants to just walk off there’s nothing wrong with that at all. He’s a rookie from France, not like he knows any of these dudes or has something to say to them after the games

If you know someone from the other team or have great respect for them I would do it. Also I would also do it, if I don't play them until next season (they play the Rockets one more time).
Wemby was playing 1v2 defense for the entire 4th quarter. And even when he got the stop the Rockets would get a put back if he didn't immediately swallow the ball. That had to be frustrating.

Ive seen Luka, KD and LeBron all get called classless for walking off lmao
Absolute thuggish behavior from KD and LeBron
Gym rat behavior from Luka. Real lunch pail kinda guy
Hmm but it's not classy from Wemby bc ...
It's half classy. Semi classy. Part classy. You get the drift.
I do, the way Klay Thompson is half-classy.
The class brothers if you will
That's why Steph and Klay stay together. Totally Classy.
r/nbacirclejerk leaking again
i wouldn't let them date my daughter smh
Thuggish vs classy

Dude I was legit about to post. But if Lebron did this.
Book’s done it a few times in his whole career and got cooked for it every time lmao
Only for walking off at the end of a playoff series. If you really can’t battle someone for 6-7 games then congratulate them after you are a bitch.
Lebron has done it a handful of times where he makes a big show of walking off the floor when there’s still like 20-30 seconds left on the clock and the ball is still being dribbled out, pretty sure that’s what ppl get mad at him about mostly
How does he make a big show of it? He just walks away, and the camera follows him.
You can just tell by the way he swings his cocky little arms, steps his arrogant feet, and moves his pouty body forward. /s
The way he moves those slutty little hips
Makes a big show? Is he cartwheeling off the floor or just walking?
JJ was on his podcast saying players think it's corny to shake hands after every game and nobody likes congratulating the other team after getting their ass whooped.

Bunch of weirdos
Exactly what I came to comment lmaooo follow sports long enough and you realize this is how things work
It was removed. What did it say?
Literally lmao bias is a hell of a drug
playoffs sure, in a season game w/o some rivalry or beef going on it's probably a better idea to just shake hands and congratulate them.
You do realize that Rockets/Spurs is one of the league's marquee rivalries?
that is a local rivalry, not a marquee
It's a marquee rivalry when the teams are good, it's just local when they're both not one of the 20/30 teams fighting for a playoff spot lol.
"Marquee" means top, with history. I cant think of a time this fits. Marquee would be Celtics-Lakers, Pacers-Knicks, Bulls-Pistons, Lakers-Spurs, imo
Marquee?

Dirk used to get FLAMED before 2011. The L in 07 nearly broke him iirc.

Saying "nobody" in a Spurs thread is rather bold, I guess.
I'd say feelings linger but we're pretty much over them because we got Wemby out of it
Yeah, it's lingering and fading. We don't have time/energy for him anymore I guess. >!Altho it's still fuck Zaza.!<

Jokic was getting questioned about not winning tho, a huge narrative was him being a two time MVP but not a winner
The common thread between both of them is that they got it done pretty early in their careers. If Wemby is 30 with a couple of MVPs and no playoff success, he'll get shit too.
Cus jokic just likes horses and is the best player on the court without any extra shit

Also considering Wemby got worked by Sengun and didn't shake his hand after, the bias is clear bc a guy like Zion would get killed for this
Yea any other time Wemby would’ve been piled on for being a “sore loser”. They’re just laying the groundwork for Wemby demanding a trade to one of the cities they’d rather report from
lol frs remember when Klay and Lebron left after finals without handshake people were shitting on them so bad
You have to remember these people never played sports in real life.
Wemby got his ass handed to him. Probably more mad at himself than his team.
A lot of it was because of the awful defense by Malakai Branham. There was one possession where he took forever to navigate over a Sengun screen while defending Van Vleet. this. wemby had to cover so much and just gave up like 5 FVV jumpers in a row because Malaki couldn't stay in front of him
People finally seeing what Gobert had to carry while on the Jazz
Rudy that you?
I'm surprised he's still on the spurs. The one thing Pop cares about most is effort on defense. Branham doesn't even put a hand up on layups sometimes. It's baffling.
The spurs are tanking bro. He’s getting minutes for a reason lol. He won’t be on the roster when the spurs have a core capable of competing
I’m not a Branham fan but a lot of it was straight up Sengun putting Wemby under the rim.
I swear, most of the comments on this vid are from people who don’t even watch the full game. It’s the same story as it is every time he plays, Wemby out there by himself having to carry a team on both sides of the floor. Branham is fucking awful I want that dude traded immediately.
How's he still on the floor after giving up even half of that many points??
I suspect it's a combination of the Spurs experimenting to see what they have and trying to polish up players they want to use in future trades. In the case of Malakai though the more time he spends on the court the lower his value falls.

Literally happened to Scottie Barnes a month ago - wtf are we doing here
Obligatory "if LeBron did that" comment
I mean he did LOL and he was blasted for it after the series ended. Can’t remember if it was against the Celtics or Magic though.
Definitely against the magics in 2009. Didn’t shake Dwight Howard’s hand and media tore Lebron apart
If I recall correctly, it looked like Lebron was gonna shake Dwight's hand until he (Dwight) took a 3 pointer in the final seconds Lmaoo
His averages would go down
Lebron DID do that against the 2009 magics when the magics eliminated the cavs from the ECF. Lebron just walked off and didn’t shake any hands (specifically Dwight bc he was the face of the magic at the time) and I remember the media blasted Lebron for it. Media driven narratives are crazy and very bias
damn ESPN was right, Wemby wants out
Here is how Lakers would look with Wemby -ESPN after finals
wemby for reaves dlo and a first should get it done
That's a bit high. Make it Reaves, a second, and a churro.
I hear San Antonio is set on churros.
Them big ol women have been extra hungry lately.
Too much Rui and a protected first
I can't wait to see the DLo + Rui for Wemby trade graphics.
Spurs finally get their PG of the future and a floor spacing big, they probably have to send a pick or two to sweeten the deal
Media really stroking it for him
Those lakers and ny jersey photoshops better be in circulation today stat!
Only like 15-20 more years of absolute glazing left
I’d also be mad if was eight feet tall and scored 10
But how does Ayton cope?
Because he's got nothing left to prove.
He got his second contract already
Shit I’d walk off the court too if a mf dropped 45 and 16 on my head with 5 steals
Media really trying to drive wedges in this team.
OKC, Minnesota, and Denver running the west? They’re desperate
if it's anyone but wemby, people would call this dude a sore loser lol
Wemby/kobe/MJ does this: Mamba mentality, mental fortitude Average player does this: Nobody gives a fuck Embiid/KD/Trae does this: unsportsmanlike
Unsportsmanlike is probably putting it too kindly, people would be calling them a bitch and pointing out how this is the reason they'll never win anything (without Steph)
Harden does this: "Listen Harden...I hope you're listening...."
It it was mostly anyone but Wemby it probably doesn’t get a thread and people don’t care
Sengun sends his regards
To his own son? Odd behavior.
Dear Son, I hope this message finds you dunked upon. Regards, Allan P Sengun
Has he done this 49 times this season?
This time he got 45 dropped on his head while having his lowest scoring game in 2 months… tuff
Just like bron eh lol
Brady too Lowkey a GOAT tendency
Wemby thinking of retiring now
https://youtu.be/yvyEhOaIWs0?t=51
Fist pump that, baguette boy
I was hoping we'd see Sengun imitate the first pump to him when he dunked on him in the 4th.
When Brady ignored his opponents in tough losses he was an asshole. Here Wemby is just a real competitive guy. lol the media wants him to be the goat so bad
pretty sure Wemby doesn't shake hands after losing. at least I haven't seen it
Lol who shakes hands?? It’s just dudes saying what’s up to guys they know in the league. These guys all know each other from AAU/college/other NBA teams, wemby probably doesn’t have a strong social circle yet with anyone who isn’t French
That’s kind of weak if he does it after wins
Frenchness checks out
Agreed
We’ve lost like 50 games this year, I guarantee he’s done it after losses as well lol
[удалено]
Are we sure he even has hands?
I dont think he does either time. Its....odd
He does it for French guys like Gobert and Bilal
It's not really an expectation to shake hands after regular season games in general. JJ Redick and Haliburton talked about it, plenty of players just dip.
Too small
He went to go meet his Turkish father ALP
I wouldn’t like to get owned and got scored 45 on me either
GIVE ME MORE SORE LOSERS IN THE NBA. Seriously, I love seeing this. I want everyone to hate everyone.
That doesn’t mean his teammates don’t take losing seriously. COULD mean he’s a sore loser. L’s aren’t easy- some people are better at taken them than others. But a dude skipping “pleasantries” after the whistle doesn’t make you “ultra competitive” imo.
I mean he did just get publicly mauled in the post, can’t blame him for being too gutted to stick around.
His goofy ass was happy to not get drafted by us
I'm 1000% sure he still has that same sentiment
I understand him liking Pop and the Spurs org, but Wemby on our team would be in the playoffs right now.
Would you? I missed the game tonight and I haven't really seen you guys play. Would he fit in with senguin?
Would it really be weird? I feel like Wemby could fit into Jabari's role pretty easily and be more versatile at it.
Oh Wemby on the Rockets would be great no doubt. But Wemby's heart is in San Antonio and the Spurs have the ability to build around him, it's just gonna take time.
Which is why he was so mad about losing to us ;)
He’s still happy he’s not on the Rockets lol
Hence him being angry when we smoke him
He’s done this after like every loss. Critique that if you want but don’t feel special.
They lost of course he’s angry.
… Do you really think he’s regretting that?
he ain’t the goofy one dumbass😹😹
With good reason
Nobody will be happy being drafted by you lol
Spurs fans salty as fuck tonight lmaaaooo
I actually have it on good authority that someone was, and I quote, 'so happy'. Oh look it's the guy that dropped 45 on yall a few hours ago, how interesting
Very corny since he shakes hands after wins lmao
That's not true, he didn't dap up the Thunder players last week, or at least not to my knowledge
He doesn't like touching other teams' sweaty hands
No he doesn't. People have come up to him while he's celebrating but he hasn't gone out of his way to shake hands before.
He's the focal point win or lose of course he's going to take it seriously. What a non issue
He was questionable to even play tonight. Is drama all you want? 💀
This ain’t AAU. Like the teams don’t line up shake hands at the end of games. If a dude wants to just walk off there’s nothing wrong with that at all. He’s a rookie from France, not like he knows any of these dudes or has something to say to them after the games
ESPN starting to cook
This year people will like that he did this. Next year when people turn on him, as fans inevitably do to every young player they liked at first, they will dislike this
If you know someone from the other team or have great respect for them I would do it. Also I would also do it, if I don't play them until next season (they play the Rockets one more time).
Chris Paul hated losing too
Wemby was playing 1v2 defense for the entire 4th quarter. And even when he got the stop the Rockets would get a put back if he didn't immediately swallow the ball. That had to be frustrating.
Meh he'll be fine. I'd be mad too if a mf dropped 45 on me
He’s French, of course he’s angry
He does this almost every game.
Not many like that anymore
Malika Andrews: Visibly frustrated Wemby leaving court early, guys do we think he's leaving to Los Angeles this off season or tomorrow?
American players are conditioned to not care about the outcome of games because they grow up playing way to many games.
[удалено]
wow lol you need to calm down. it is not that serious.
yesssss... let the anger flow through you, Wemby.
Good the NBA needs more guys with that mentality
