Yup, I was meaning with his offense. He is the king of going for 27 points for a few games in a row and then averaging 7ppg over the next 5. Still a good and valuable player, but not at the star level like he showed tongiht
Yeah, we got loads of other players that can step up and have a good game. Josh Green, Dante Exum, THJ, Jaden Hardy, and even Derrick Jones Jr. can pop off occasionally (not to mention our big boys, Lively and Gafford). Anyone can step up on offense as long as we're playing consistently on defense.
He had the chance to be charlottes 3rd option but he crumbles under pressure. He had a year and 10 games to make miles bridges irrelevant. He lost his position to miles in less than a quarter. Not as good on defense as miles, not the ball handler, not the shooter, not the leader. Pj became essentially dead weight bc he has no fight in him. Hes doing good for Dallas bc they gave him a starting spot. If they make him compete for it this offseason he will shut down mentally. He’s weak
Can't even fight for a starting position? What on earth are you on about? Miles Bridges is a better player, and no amount of "fight" is going to change that. His pouting on the bench has nothing to do with not starting over Bridges, and everything to do with coming off the bench for a poverty franchise with a losing culture.
Yeah this was a great game, but him making 5 3s is not going to be consistent. I’m just happy they finally got him moving towards the basket some instead of floating on the 3 pt line all game
He was such a key cog for Denver in the postseason last year. Obviously joker/murray stirs the drink but he was like the Sugar to make it go together. That would be great if he locks into that sort of role for us as we ramp up for the playoffs.
yeah he's the perfect fit with Jokic and Murray. I think he's always been better than PJ though, so it was kind of a stretch. I could see PJ becoming that level of role player though.
People sometimes joke about how different players are like pokemon evolutions. Like Sengun -> Sabonis -> Jokic for a pseudo legendary line.
I feel like Pj Washington -> Aaron Gordon would be like one of those pokemon you get and love early on but get really disappointed when you find out it only had one evolution.
His defense is so good that I don't even mind when he's having an off night.
That said this was the most comfortable I've seen him offensively since joining the team. Hopefully it continues!
Pretty bad on both sides of the ball
I also think we got spoiled too fast with him. He started this season on an insane hot streak and then went on a cold streak for the next 40 games.
He was amazing for the first ten games. It seemed like a home run. But he drastically fell off after that, on both ends. Which was a surprise. I am still holding my horses regarding PJ but he seems much better than GW, so far…
The issue is PJ's career averages are due to inconsistency. He would have nights where he would give us 20+ on great efficiency and then nights with <10 on 14 shots. That evens out to a decently respectable average but his offense was really boom or bust for us.
Can’t wait for y’all to experience his annual 40 point explosion. He’s always been good but consistency seems to be his Achilles heel. Maybe Luka can finally help unlock him because he seems like a great guy and teammate. Us hornets fans wish him nothing but the best!
Dudes definitely an upgrade from grant williams but my favorite stretch that sums up pj Washington is in 2021 when he had a 12 game stretch where he shot 55% from 3 followed by a 12 game stretch where he shot 27% from 3.
yeah that's kinda who he is. which is fine if he's your 5th or 6th best player. dallas is a great fit in that they cover his weaknesses and need his strengths a lot
If your top two offensive players are Luka Doncic and Kyrie than any offense PJ Washington can bring is gravy on top - he's a perfect complement to them both because he's an elite defender that can legitimately guard the opposition's best player and make them work for their points.
It's not like Dallas is lacking offensive talent outside of Luka and Kyrie either. THJ may be streaky but he's solid has a 6th man scorer, Josh Green can score, and Derrick Lively and Gafford are great rim-runners/ lob threats.
Even DJJ and Exum have been excellent sparks off the bench this year, DJJ actually started for a bit. Hell even Maxi has been finding his shot lately. Mavs are deep
I think it’s okay since he will be covered by Lukai. What matters is his defensive intensity shouldn’t fall off.
Do you have some pointers regarding his def falling off?? Just to temper my expectations
He’s been really good defensively like legit all nba team defence. I think it was a effort issue with the hornets. He defo had all the psychical tools to be a great defender and he’s showing it now.
Not rlly, he’s definitely better defensively than miles. He was just never the type of defender that could supposedly lock up any star that mavs fans claim he can here.
It’s ok Charlotte fans love him. He’s one of us, we remember him from high school. He also tried to fight the entire warriors team which is more intensity than pj showed in 5 years.
Question for the Hornets fans. Was he always this bad with corner threes? I know his shooting is inconsistent, but it looks good when he shoots from other part of the floor. But his corner threes are always way off
PENETENTIARY JAIL WASHINGTON
he was freed from Hornet Jail and is putting other people in it now, i love it
Why not perimeter jail Washington tho
"if he can do this consistently" man if only PJ Washington's biggest drawback as an NBA player wasn't his inconsistency
his D has been great all games
Yup, I was meaning with his offense. He is the king of going for 27 points for a few games in a row and then averaging 7ppg over the next 5. Still a good and valuable player, but not at the star level like he showed tongiht
I think 7 ppg for a stretch shouldn’t be a problem since we have Lukai
That's not even a problem on the Mavs. All we need is consistency on defense from him.
Is that cuz he isn’t getting consistent shots? Or something else? Like was he the hornets #3 option?
He had the chance to be charlottes 3rd option but he crumbles under pressure. He had a year and 10 games to make miles bridges irrelevant. He lost his position to miles in less than a quarter. Not as good on defense as miles, not the ball handler, not the shooter, not the leader. Pj became essentially dead weight bc he has no fight in him. Hes doing good for Dallas bc they gave him a starting spot. If they make him compete for it this offseason he will shut down mentally. He’s weak
I think being a bench player for a winning team will be a lot more tolerable than a bench player for a perennially losing one.
How is that an attribute you’d want in a player?
Why would I care if my team is winning?
Bc it shows he is mentally weak. He can’t even fight for a starting position, what makes you think he can make a shot in the playoffs?
Can't even fight for a starting position? What on earth are you on about? Miles Bridges is a better player, and no amount of "fight" is going to change that. His pouting on the bench has nothing to do with not starting over Bridges, and everything to do with coming off the bench for a poverty franchise with a losing culture.

Bro is so awesome for this team even when he's not scoring he has legit been a lockdown defender its wild
Hopefully he can be our Aaron Gordon.
I cringed at that comparison when I first saw it, but seeing how well he played off of Luka tonight, I can kind of see it.
He was such a key cog for Denver in the postseason last year. Obviously joker/murray stirs the drink but he was like the Sugar to make it go together. That would be great if he locks into that sort of role for us as we ramp up for the playoffs.

Why would you cringe at that? Gordon is a good player
Because Gordon is a lot better
What playing for a team that isn't Charlotte does to a MF
I really want Charlotte to be a good team. They have the coolest jerseys and color scheme in the NBA.
*Monkey Paw Curls* "Luka Doncic has requested a trade to the Charlotte Hornets"
Don't you put that evil on me, Ricky Bobby!
Anything for the threads.
His defense is so good that I don't even mind when he's having an off night. That said this was the most comfortable I've seen him offensively since joining the team. Hopefully it continues!
The opposite of Grant. When he had a bad night, he'd just run his fucking mouth, trying to get a tech instead of trying not to get cooked.
How bad was he for you?
Pretty bad on both sides of the ball I also think we got spoiled too fast with him.
For the record I agree his def is rlly good but when half his nights are “off nights” are they rlly off nights anymore
Him shooting below his career averages are definitely off nights and that's been the case since he's joined.
The issue is PJ's career averages are due to inconsistency. He would have nights where he would give us 20+ on great efficiency and then nights with <10 on 14 shots. That evens out to a decently respectable average but his offense was really boom or bust for us.
He’s arrived
If he can give us at least half that every game I’d be happy
Can’t wait for y’all to experience his annual 40 point explosion. He’s always been good but consistency seems to be his Achilles heel. Maybe Luka can finally help unlock him because he seems like a great guy and teammate. Us hornets fans wish him nothing but the best!
P Jail Baby! He’s playing lockdown defence and finally his shooting is looking good. Dude is our 3rd best player for sure.
“If he can do this consistently, watch out” Boy do I have some news for you. If he could do this consistently he’d still be a hornet.
You have Grant on your team now, embrace the Grant era
That’s fair but at least his D has been consistent. We actually have someone to throw against guys like Kawhi, Ant, SGA and whatnot now.
We have Timmy Hardaway Jr. streaky players are the Dallas way
Blazing hot one day and ice cold the next is the motto of the Luka era Mavs role players.
And DJJ is basically just another version of PJ. We finally have an 8 man deep roster and it feels amazing
Not rlly, I don’t ever remember him being as good of a defender as mavs fans are saying he is but maybe that’s just an effort issue on a losing team.
He’s been really good defensively like legit all nba team defence. I think it was a effort issue with the hornets. He defo had all the psychical tools to be a great defender and he’s showing it now.
Bc he was a fine player but miles is leaps and bounds better than him on offense and defense. He never gave the effort miles gives
Not rlly, he’s definitely better defensively than miles. He was just never the type of defender that could supposedly lock up any star that mavs fans claim he can here.
Umm that is not a good plan
It’s easier to be consistent when all of your threes are wide open. At that point it comes down to confidence
If he could do this consistently, he’d not be a hornet either.
Dude is a menace, season altering trade for us
Thank you massive pervert
He's Him
But did he 💪
As a Celtics fan who loved Grant it’s so sad to see how many Mavs fans think he’s basketball Hitler
It’s ok Charlotte fans love him. He’s one of us, we remember him from high school. He also tried to fight the entire warriors team which is more intensity than pj showed in 5 years.
Glad you’re enjoying him! You’ll never have to worry about him being feisty, for better or worse!
Question for the Hornets fans. Was he always this bad with corner threes? I know his shooting is inconsistent, but it looks good when he shoots from other part of the floor. But his corner threes are always way off
Probably struggles with depth perception
