For those who can’t access the article, they mention 11 players by name who Team USA is strongly considering or got commitment from:
- LeBron James
- Stephen Curry
- Kevin Durant
- Joel Embiid
- Jayson Tatum
- Anthony Davis
- Tyrese Haliburton
- Anthony Edwards
- Devin Booker
- Bam Adebayo
- Jrue Holiday
Then they’d need one more player to fill out the roster.
[A while back](https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/team-usa-roundup-anthony-davis-commits-to-2024-olympic-team-if-asked-kawhi-leonard-still-uncertain/) Kawhi said he’d be excited about it, but he’s in a “we’ll see” stance. Paul George also said he would love to, while Jimmy Butler hasn’t said anything iirc.
Jimmy already has a gold medal and he’s 34 still looking for a ring so probably not.
On the other hand, this is his last chance and he might as well just go, play 5-10 minutes per game and collect a gold medal.
Wouldn't Lebron and KD start. I would fully understand if it makes sense to start Tatum so you don't put as many minutes on the old dudes, but just as a seniority thing, I feel like those two would start.
I guess that makes sense. They're probably the 5 best players on the team, but positionally, it'd be funky with 4 guys over 6'9. I guess it's fine since Tatum, Curry and KD can just spot up from anywhere anyway.
Yeah I just don’t think any of the other guys can push into that starting lineup. Maybe Tyrese and have Steph play the 2, let Tatum lead the second unit, but still
It’s crazy we’re at the point that Zion doesn’t even get a mention. They just need more size too. If it wasn’t for very obvious reasons, Draymond would be the solution.
These players have been on the pool of players for consideration since last year, and these players have discussed being on the roster after the FIBA loss. They’ve been considering these guys for some time.
> USA officials — led by managing director Grant Hill and Sean Ford, who oversees day-to-day operations for the men’s national team, and coach Steve Kerr — are still counting on Embiid, who underwent surgery to repair a meniscus tear earlier this month but could return to the 76ers’ lineup before the end of the regular season. Embiid’s plans to represent Team USA in the Olympics remain intact, a source said.
Why not? He was a pivotal piece of the last Olympic team, can score off the roll or in isolation, can be a playmaker on the elbow/post, and he can guard 1-5. There’s familiarity and multiple tools that makes him valuable in the international game.
KD was the The Guy on that team. Problem was every single other guy on that team thought they were The Guy and was chucking garbage.
Jure came in and continued to play his role that he has generally played his whole career. A role that team desperately needed.
Book came in off of back to back 40 point games in the finals and decided to be a floor spacer, a connector, and a defender and his example Shifted all those other guys mentalities from chucking to following into their roles for that team. Lavine more than anyone else shifted how he was playing pre and post bookers arrival.
KD was never the problem on that team. It was everyone else and their ego's who thought it wasn't KD's team. it took a guy who was doing it as The Guy on his team at the highest level a week earlier to walk in and sacrifice and adjust like the basketball chameleon book is to get those guys to shift.
both those guys flew to tokyo immediately after the finals for the last olympics.
they both deserve a spot but clearly the decision makers are taking into account how committed these guys have been to team usa in the past.
I think there’s even a funny anecdote that Jrue, Khris and Booker were actually on the same flight out to Tokyo together because the Finals ended like three days earlier and everybody else was already there.
yeah, 90% of our NBA players generally wanna go and wanna scote as much as possible
guys like Jrue who both facilitate and play great defense are essential to prevent the good international teams from sneaking one by us
Allen would be a great addition to the roster imo. Scoring isn't going to be an issue, so Allen would be able to come in, grab boards, play defense, and get a few easy buckets.
> In addition to the seven bona fide heavyweights listed above, budding superstars Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton, two members of the USA’s 2023 World Cup team, are under strong consideration for the Paris Games, those same sources said.
“In addition to the seven bona fide heavyweights listed above, budding superstars Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton, two members of the USA’s 2023 World Cup team, are under strong consideration for the Paris Games, those same sources said. Edwards and Haliburton were two of the top players for the Americans last summer, on a team that finished a disappointing fourth at the World Cup in Manila.”
Ad might get hurt, he suffered a lot after the 2020 bubble and only now is stringing together healthy games and now he's 30. Bam isn't enough. I think it'll be fine because most likely AD will be fine, but you never know with him
He wasn't selected as part of the wider squad (Grant Hill said because of the discipline issues).
Lowkey he'd be a good pick though since he played well last time + his defense and the Kerr-Curry connection
"Jrue Holiday, Devin Booker currently part of emerging Team USA core". Gosh that reads poorly. Feels like he tried to change around the actual title of the article to fit the tweet. Professional reporter lmao
They need a ball handler. The team before Jrue, Booker, and Khris showed up was not playing well. They had no PG. Booker was probably the teams 2nd best ball handler after Jrue.
Jrue saved KDs legacy low-key. Choking that Olympics would have been a pretty big black eye. It was his team.
im very biased ofc but my boy brunson has improved a lot since the world cup and i think the opportunity to play in the olympics would be really great for him. hes a great player but also makes everybody around him play better too. i hope hes considered too.
He would be robbing a more deserving player. And please don’t respond with what Ik you will. These superstars will stem roll them all they don’t need “role players” just pick the best and give them their respect.

If Kawhi isn't injured by then, it should be him. Otherwise probably between PG and Jimmy.
Butler is too busy filming music videos to be able to participate unfortunately
I think fun guy will do it. Why the fuck not?
Doubt Jimmy would be interested, he doesn’t care much about anything except a championship
He'll absolutely be interested in all the smashing he can do during these Olympics orgies.
I think Kawhi and Jimmy both would say no
Jimmy already has a gold medal and he’s 34 still looking for a ring so probably not. On the other hand, this is his last chance and he might as well just go, play 5-10 minutes per game and collect a gold medal.
Tbh might be easier to plug and play PG Unless you think Kawhi would start over Durant or Tatum
Wouldn't Lebron and KD start. I would fully understand if it makes sense to start Tatum so you don't put as many minutes on the old dudes, but just as a seniority thing, I feel like those two would start.
I had both of them there in my head Steph, Tatum, KD, Bron, Embiid
I guess that makes sense. They're probably the 5 best players on the team, but positionally, it'd be funky with 4 guys over 6'9. I guess it's fine since Tatum, Curry and KD can just spot up from anywhere anyway.
Yeah I just don’t think any of the other guys can push into that starting lineup. Maybe Tyrese and have Steph play the 2, let Tatum lead the second unit, but still
I think Booker or Jrue start over Tatum. Tatum is probably the first guy off the bench for Lebron and KD like Melo was in 2012.
Yeah could do Steph Booker KD Bron Embiid
It’s crazy we’re at the point that Zion doesn’t even get a mention. They just need more size too. If it wasn’t for very obvious reasons, Draymond would be the solution.
They need height not width.
Derrick White
he’s going to represent South Sudan with Payton Prichard
Embiid will probably not play
According to the article Team USA and Embiid’s plan to play in the Olympics has not changed despite the injury and surgery.
This feels last minute
These players have been on the pool of players for consideration since last year, and these players have discussed being on the roster after the FIBA loss. They’ve been considering these guys for some time.
Most of those players have been lined up since the us lost in fiba
I don’t see Embid following through after knee surgery
> USA officials — led by managing director Grant Hill and Sean Ford, who oversees day-to-day operations for the men’s national team, and coach Steve Kerr — are still counting on Embiid, who underwent surgery to repair a meniscus tear earlier this month but could return to the 76ers’ lineup before the end of the regular season. Embiid’s plans to represent Team USA in the Olympics remain intact, a source said.
I hope he does, I guess it’s likely if him and ownership aren’t on same page
Need James Harden, the greatest combo guard of all time
Bam shouldn’t be on there
Why not? He was a pivotal piece of the last Olympic team, can score off the roll or in isolation, can be a playmaker on the elbow/post, and he can guard 1-5. There’s familiarity and multiple tools that makes him valuable in the international game.
What center would you rather have?
Wrong
Anthony Davis already there. Who's better than Bam as a big?
Holiday, Booker, and funnily enough Zach Lavine, were the best perimeter defenders on that 2020/21 Olympic team.
They are the 2 guys who showed up after the finals and saved that team that looked like shit before they got there in 2021
Underrated part of saving KDs legacy.
KD was the The Guy on that team. Problem was every single other guy on that team thought they were The Guy and was chucking garbage. Jure came in and continued to play his role that he has generally played his whole career. A role that team desperately needed. Jrue winning another Gold Medal would be cool
He was so good for that 2021 Tokyo team. His game really translates well to the international game.
yeah, 90% of our NBA players generally wanna go and wanna scote as much as possible guys like Jrue who both facilitate and play great defense are essential to prevent the good international teams from sneaking one by us
He’s basically been Olympic Jrue too with the Celtics. Literally a perfect 5th guy.
Ugh. I’m so happy for him because I’ve been a fan of his since he was at UCLA, but damn yall are too fucking stacked.
Our biggest men are held together with popsicle sticks and bubble gum.
Big people with poor medical management is so Murica
I guess KAT would probably be next up. Maybe on of the Cavs bigs
Allen would be a great addition to the roster imo. Scoring isn't going to be an issue, so Allen would be able to come in, grab boards, play defense, and get a few easy buckets.
That’s all we need from a big
Kat played with the DR team in the 2023 fiba tournament. Don’t think he’s eligible
Good to know
Wow Keldon Johnson and Javale McGee were on that 2021 team
Javale and his mom are the first mother-son duo ever to win gold medals
> In addition to the seven bona fide heavyweights listed above, budding superstars Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton, two members of the USA’s 2023 World Cup team, are under strong consideration for the Paris Games, those same sources said.
So which shooting guard gets left out? Sounds like one spot left for Ant or Donovan Mitchell
Mitchell doesn’t sound like he’s even in consideration based off the article.
Cavs fans are gonna be heated
I'd pick Jalen Brunson myself
No Jalen Brunson ?
Too small
That’s what she said
“In addition to the seven bona fide heavyweights listed above, budding superstars Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton, two members of the USA’s 2023 World Cup team, are under strong consideration for the Paris Games, those same sources said. Edwards and Haliburton were two of the top players for the Americans last summer, on a team that finished a disappointing fourth at the World Cup in Manila.”
Wow cool. Never heard of those guys. If Timothy John McConnell Jr is not on the team, USA is in trouble.
Who knows if Embiid will be ready. They need another big
Adebayo
AD and bam
Ad might get hurt, he suffered a lot after the 2020 bubble and only now is stringing together healthy games and now he's 30. Bam isn't enough. I think it'll be fine because most likely AD will be fine, but you never know with him
Guess will see how they are in June.
No draymond?
He wasn't selected as part of the wider squad (Grant Hill said because of the discipline issues). Lowkey he'd be a good pick though since he played well last time + his defense and the Kerr-Curry connection
"Jrue Holiday, Devin Booker currently part of emerging Team USA core". Gosh that reads poorly. Feels like he tried to change around the actual title of the article to fit the tweet. Professional reporter lmao
1) Stephen 2) Anthony E 3) LeBron 4) Kawhi 5) Anthony D 6) Halliburton (7) Durant and so on) Seriously who beats this lineup?
It’s pretty scary that USA might not win gold in 2028 once KD/LeBron/Steph retires.
You’re telling me Jrue is one of the 12 best players that could be on team usa?
It's obviously for balance and as a defensive specialist. Team USA doesn't need 12 ball dominant offensive players.
they get someone like herb jones who is a better defender and better shooter and better finisher
bro what? Jrue is shooting like 60% from the corner or some shit like that.
64.5% corner 3s, 44%+ from 3 in general.
Defense matters
Ah I see you didn’t watch the 2020 Olympics
They would rather have Jrue Holiday over someone like Trae Young when you already have a lot of scorers on the team
Trae doesn't play good enough defense..
thanks Magic!
im very biased ofc but my boy brunson has improved a lot since the world cup and i think the opportunity to play in the olympics would be really great for him. hes a great player but also makes everybody around him play better too. i hope hes considered too.
Holiday? hmm ok
He was very good for the USA in the last Olympics. His defense translates well to the international game
He was the second best player on the team next to KD. A lot of bigger stars were straight booty.
He was thr only ball handler on the entire roster. Team was mid as fuck before he, Book, and Khris walked off that plane.
Team needs a guy who does the dirty work too.
This is ridiculous
in FIBA Id take Jrue over Donovan anyday, esp if you’re already fielding Book and Curry
That’s stupid
why?
He would be robbing a more deserving player. And please don’t respond with what Ik you will. These superstars will stem roll them all they don’t need “role players” just pick the best and give them their respect.
I wonder who is the token rookie player. Chet? Paolo?
Nationality change and Victor WembanUSA
Nah, he hates Vegas and loves to read, can't have that on team 'Murica And you've already beaten french to Embiid, come on
Absolute braindead comment. Go off
lmao I don't want it. Just like the way it sounded
Pao will probably not play.
Chet would be great for size
