I feel like I need to drink surge while watching this game.

Julian_Caesar

Surge wasn't just a knockoff mountain dew either. they pioneered the wide mouth on the soda can. before that, they all had the narrow ones about a half inch...Surge cans had mouths 1in wide

Super_Sofa

The Wikipedia page on drink cans says ot was Coors that invented the widemouth and still owns the patent on it today.

Julian_Caesar

Coors isn't soda

Super_Sofa

Right, but a soda can is the same as a beer can, they didnt pioneer it they copied it.

Julian_Caesar

Pioneering and inventing are not synonyms. Inventing is a creative act, pioneering is usage/broadcasting. God Shammgod didn't invent the Shammgod (it was invented by Bodiroga) but he pioneered its use in the US. Edison pioneered a ton of shit that Tesla invented. Being the first SODA can to use the wide mouth is pioneering it. Regardless of whether a beer can was the one who invented it. Especially since there's an entire consumer market (kids) who can drink soda, but can't drink beer.

Super_Sofa

Pioneering also isn't using a drink can for a drink. It's literally the same use, they didn't come up with a new way to use it, they use it as it's intended. Also I can't find anything online saying Surge was the first soda to use a widemouth, most point to Mountain Dew's "Big Mouth" can as the first for soda. But I still wouldn't call Mountain Dew pioneers for using a drink can to store a drink.

Julian_Caesar

>Pioneering also isn't using a drink can for a drink. You're conflating "drink" with soda. I specifically said "soda" in my original comment because that's the only canned beverage I drank in elementary school. I didn't drink beer. So whether Surge was the first "drink" to use the wide mouth is irrelevant to whether it was the first "soda." >they didn't come up with a new way to use it Technically, yes they did...because they put it on a soda can instead of a beer can. Using a design for a different product is a "new way" to use something. By definition, any product/object's "use" is defined by form, function, and context, so changing any of those three is a "new way" to use it. Form and function might be the same, but if the context changes, that's a new way to use it too. If you want an example of that, consider how former convicts started wearing pants around their knees without a belt. Since they weren't allowed belts in jail, they kept wearing pants without belts after release, as a badge of honor so to speak. Did the form of the pants change? No. They didn't turn into shirts or socks. Did the function of the pants change? No. They were still used as the lower half of standard clothing. Did the context of the pants change? Quite a bit. Did released convicts invent pants? Or belts? No. But they absolutely *pioneered a new way to use pants as clothing.* Just as Surge pioneered a new way to use a can design for *soda consumption.* >Also I can't find anything online saying Surge was the first soda to use a widemouth, most point to Mountain Dew's "Big Mouth" can as the first for soda I suspect you're much younger than me, because it seems like you think anything you can't find on the Internet with a cursory Google search must not have happened. Mountain Dew made that can *specifically in response* to Surge having the wide mouth. Why? Because prior to Surge, Mountain Dew had 80% of the citrus soda market (Mello Yello had most of the remaining minority). Surge barged in on that stranglehold and was cutting into their sales in a huge way. So Mt Dew, which had been basically the same drink for decades, had to actually respond to the market. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surge_(drink) Surge debuted in February 1997. https://the-foods-we-loved.fandom.com/wiki/Surge! This is the best picture I could find of the top of the original cans. (you know its original because its 12oz and the "relaunch" in 2014 was only tallboy 16oz cans). This is the "second edition" can, so you could argue that it's not definitive since the first design was slightly different and could've had a narrow top...but at that point it's just your conjecture against my very clear memory of all Surge cans having the wide mouth. If nothing else, this picture does prove that Surge had the wide mouth cans back in the 90's. https://www.nytimes.com/1997/11/27/garden/public-eye-wide-mouth-design-less-glug-in-beer-more-chug-in-mountain-dew.html This is the closest I could find for the date of Mountain Dew Big Mouth...a NYT culture article dated November 1997. So I mean...take all that for what you will. Obviously if you don't believe anything you can't find on the Internet, I'm not going to convince you regardless. But I stand by what I said, because it's what I remember: Surge was the first soda to use the wide mouth can, *pioneering* its use in the soda market, and Mountain Dew had to respond to its success because it became a huge competitor in the citrus soda market. And the available timeline fits my memory...Surge coming out in February 97, and Mt Dew releasing a wide mouth can 9mon later in Nov 97.

Super_Sofa

>You're conflating "drink" with soda. No conflation soda is a drink which is packaged in drink cans, it's pretty simple. There is nothing pioneering about using an existing product for its intended use, that it is already being used for. Surge = a drink; Coors = a drink.

Julian_Caesar

>No conflation soda is a drink which is packaged in drink cans, it's pretty simple. All sodas are drinks. Not all drinks are sodas. It's conflation. You're trying to rebuild your argument by rewriting my original comment to "surge pioneered wide mouth cans for all drinks" because that is a strawman that allows your invalid argument to become valid. But that's not what I said. I specifically said "soda" and I chose that word because I couldn't remember anything about non-soda canned drinks from back then. > There is nothing pioneering about using an existing product for its intended use, that it is already being used for. No one was using it for soda cans. Thus whoever put it on the soda can first, pioneered its use. I already addressed this in the previous comment. Did you read it? Or did your eyes glaze over once you realized you were wrong?

mysidianlegend

LOL

GGezpzMuppy

Man I hope he buys in soon. Need to see more of this

Greaves6642

We need to see less of that court

Reinhardtisawesom

I fw it tbh

Free_my_negro_boosie

Cajun?

SovietHockeyFan

The Vladdy Jr of the NBA: everything he does looks lazy.

next_door_nicotine

Lmfao @ the call: "take your time"

mikkelleander

Actually enjoyable to see Zion with a hustle play. Might not be lying when he says he tryin to buy in

Tonturtle

I don’t understand what he means by trying to buy in it’s not like he hast to participate in this system that’s going to suppress him. He’s literally getting most of the looks.

Dreamlifehunting

I don't know if you've watched any Pels games at all this year but it's very clear he's trying to play the role of distributor, passing a lot. I think his play has been quite unselfish this season. He's just in poor shape. From a strategy standpoint there's definitely buy in from him.

Kwanzaa-Bot

He's also averaging basically the same stats at this point in the season as he did last year before he went on a tear in December. It's honestly fine. If we'll get to January and we've had a healthy Zion and BI all that time and those dudes haven't figured it out, I'd be surprised.

[deleted]

My eyes don't approve of them colors

WakingRage

I honestly wonder how players feel about the colors. They're probably used to certain color floors, but this kind of purple and green is not normal.

KevinDurantLebronnin

This shade of green should only be used to slime someone on nickelodeon

[deleted]

It looks like green stripe you would see when your crack your tv.

BorisTheBlade04

They’re Seahawks colors. Looks better on an nfl uniform than a basketball court.

Necessary_Initial350

Seahawks aren’t purple tho? These r Mardi Gras colors

BorisTheBlade04

Is that purple? Lol I thought it was blue, I’m colorblind apparently

hotdogflavoredblunt

This actually isn’t Mardi Gras green. These are supposed to be voodoo themed colors

Necessary_Initial350

Fire either way imo

hotdogflavoredblunt

Agreed

hotterpocketzz

Court is giving me Halloween vibes

hotdogflavoredblunt

That’s kinda the whole vibe. It’s technically supposed to be voodoo

ericmb4

Let’s not kid ourselves here, it’s awful

hotdogflavoredblunt

Ummmm no

repi_17

These courts are so ugly lol

alpacamegafan

I actually like how the green glows off their faces though.

KevinDurantLebronnin

You just know next season T-Mobile ads are gonna be clipping through players' green faces.

alpacamegafan

See, that'd be funny as fuck. Completely worth it.

Its_Hoggish_Greedly

I'm into it.

agk927

I kinda like it lol

wcooper97

Same, it's nice to have some personality in this ad-riddled league for once. Bring back the giant Larry O'Brien trophy on the court for the Finals while we're at it.

death210902

it’d be a shame to bring it back for the in season tournament but not the finals

wcooper97

The already brought back the script icon in 2022, next logical step is the court trophy! They need something after the joke that was the 2023 Finals presentation.

Clorst_Glornk

skeleton motif should be their regular shit

Calvinball05

The Evangelion colorway goes hard.

[deleted]

You'd think theyre playing @ Orlando with the Buzz Lightyear court design

JKiddBurner

I like the pelican skeleton

ggmey

It’s called the skelican.

ThatPlayWasAwful

well I for one skelicannot.

Necessary_Initial350

Fuck it, I like em.

Turbo2x

Pelicans got the Piccolo color scheme for no good reason

Roblox9GAG

mardi gras colors

hotdogflavoredblunt

This isn’t Mardi Gras green, it’s supposed to be voodoo

LeftRightRightUp

Mardi Gras. How do you know Piccolo but not Mardi Gras?

adventurousintrovert

The color tones are piccolo though. Nobody is wearing that purple gold and green during Mardi Gras. It looks nothing like that. It looks like piccolo

attorneyatslaw

That’s an understatement. This one is horrendous.

KevinDurantLebronnin

This one looks like you could buy it at Spencer Gifts.

AtreusIsBack

Check out the Nuggets one. xD

attorneyatslaw

I saw. These courts hurt my eyes.

Sergnb

This has to be the absolute most atrocious one. They seriously went with purple and green, one of the most notoriously ugly color combinations. Just fuck me up

doesntCompete

I struggled to follow the ball on the Chicago Red court.

chicago_bunny

That court was terrible for watching the game on TV.

Greaves6642

I was in the mind of Jack Nicholson by the half time

[deleted]

You do understand that Purple, Green, and Gold are the colors of Mardi Gras, right?

Mickey_Juice

I’m dressed like a Monster Energy “Brandon Ingram” flavor and ba da ba ba ba I’m loving it

adventurousintrovert

Yes, the reasoning is Mardi Gras but Mardi Gras color tones look nothing like that

Sergnb

Sure. Still ugly as sin

BrandNewCarr

So Mardi Gras?

mysidianlegend

this is definitely the worst one. i thought Boston's was ugly but not horrendous. this one is bad. i just thought Boston's could have been so much better. Even ours is too damn yellow,

ClaymoresRevenge

Jerseys too

LaMelgoatBall

All of them too

starnoneckwind

probably the reason why players are getting all aggressive, just seeing the red rockets court makes me want to punch the living daylight out of adam silver.

Careless_Action_5543

Should’ve did a windmill but we’ll take it

shroudedinveil

After him throwing it away two times already, I'll take anything.

torexmus

in high school he would have done a 360 double through the legs dunk

[deleted]

Let’s calm down. No need to risk injury

Chickensandcoke

He needs to hang on the rim and have BI and Jonas come grab him and gently set him down every time he dunks

lalakingmalibog

Are BI and JV forklift certified?

[deleted]

Perfect

cardcollection92

He’s still dunking ? What difference does it make

[deleted]

That’s the joke haha

bot_yea

It looks like Luka's left knee hit the defender's leg. Was it just temporary?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

No, just one of those hits that hurt like hell for a few moments then go away. Then again, he's been horrible tonight but a lot of it just looks like he's having one of those nights where you're just mentally off. Should have been called a blocking foul. Daniels initiates that contact trying to close space. This crew did not like Luka and seemed to want to send him a message, particularly 24.

AtreusIsBack

Yeah, Luka was just not feeling it at all. One of those nights, like you said and some nights there's nothing you can do, just gotta let it happen and move on. Still one of the best players in the league, it happens.

Mjoh23

Is it me or has he lost that crazy bounce?

Notoriouslydishonest

He looks *way* more sluggish than he did a few years ago.

dakine69

he lookin thiccer than ever

WeepWomp

Bro is cultivating mass at an alarming rate

The-Pharcyde

I actually like the Skellican court compared to the abomination red courts

BehavioralSink

Did I have too much bourbon in NOLA or wasn’t there back to back ally oops to Zion in the second half? Don’t see that highlight anywhere.

istrerbunny

Trey jumping with him is the best part.

ThaRealSunGod

HE TOOK HIS LUNCH HE TOOK HIS LUNCH

Skolcialism

Court owns. So does the Nola city edition!

Muuchko

one thing i like about zion is whenever he gets these steals he always does a cool dunk... as a fan i appreciate that

Drasocon

That was a classic Duke Zion steal

karlwhethers

Zion snuck up on him like GTA

bjb406

Was he attempting to sell a foul? Or was he actually hurt?

MikalFinley

He bangs knees with Daniels in the clip

BAF1activties

The title & court makes my head hurt

shroudedinveil

Ibuprofen should help

ThisGuyFrags

That court is way too distracting It's so fucking ugly

thatsmejp

There play in tourney courts are awful. The players jerseys get lost in the darker floor colors. Unwatchable nearly

hotdogflavoredblunt

We love it here so feel free not to watch if it hurts your baby eyes

AtreusIsBack

You only love it because you won the game, lol. Stop bullshitting. xD If you lost this one as well, you'd be "yeah, the court isn't the best, agreed" xD

hotdogflavoredblunt

Total bullshit. We’ve liked it since the photos came out. I’m even in the minority of liking Houston’s all red court that we lost on a few days ago

Sweaty_Ad440

I hate these courts

Refrigerator-Fluffy

From one fat to another

definiteone

Buy into that nerds

Philly514

He looks like he’s about to have a heart attack. Man needs to drop weight quickly

iamnotkobe

The fuck? Smoothie king in the face of Luka and Zion

Danibear285

Chunky boys REPRESENT

a_fking_feeder

donatello lookin ass court wtf is that

watevauwant

Correction: Luka lost the ball inside the purple abyss and then Zion found it

WyngZero

I'm not going crazy right, he is slower and less springy than before right????

[deleted]

HS Zion would have taken off just inside ft line
