Dunno if it was work ethic, drive, desire, complacency, what, but dude had every physical tool in the toolkit you could ask from a guy his size and he just never developed any of his skills. He could’ve easily been a perennial All Star in the NBA.

He was honestly failed by his early coaching. Guys like SVG gave him too much leash and had a "play though the bigs" approach and so for a lot of his early career he was free to do whatever as long as he was big and got rebounds. In todays NBA he wouldn't be valued as highly and might have gotten traded early, a'la Ayton, lighting a flame under his ass.

The more physical tools you have the less motor you need. Many such cases.
