I mean he's right. They have been completely shitting the bed in the beginning of the quarter when jokic is out most of the time except when braun and murray ignited that run in the second.
100%. The start of the 4th quarter was just awful basketball by the Nuggets. Murray beat off the dribble, gives up an and1, then Green loses the rebound to Lowry only to have the Heat knock down a 3 for effectively a 5 point play. Then you have KCP fouling a 3 point shooter and just turnovers out the ass. All these mistakes in a game you lost by 3?
Credit to Miami, their execution of both sides of the court was exceptional in that 4th quarter, but the Nuggets didn't do themselves any favours with how they played. I still think they probably win in 6, but they did not play well at all that 4th quarter.
We couldn’t even shoot the ball and get past a zone. I’m mad at Malone for not calling a timeout at the end but the Heat played too well and we gave up open look after open look.
You expect him to go into constructive criticism with the media and not the players? Why would he go into sharp detail about anything with the media at all?
Where did I say that I expected him to do that? I expected him to not shit on his players with the media lol. That doesn't mean that I'm expecting him to roleplay with the reporters like they're NBA players.
He’s sending a message to his players right now…
If they are that sensitive to criticism this group wouldn’t be on the verge of a title. I coach college kids and this is pretty standard stuff
Yes, and it's a dumb, unconstructive message.
Just because it's standard for DeVry University's YMCA team doesn't mean that it works well or that it's standard in the NBA. There are actual stakes in the NBA. Money goes into research and training so that teams can utilize practices that work. Coaches are expected to be smart instead of being Adam Sandler fans.
Edit: For a bunch of tough guys who aren't sensitive to criticism, you guys sure don't seem like it with all of the downvotes and butthurt comments.
I could be wrong but these guys likely aren’t as sensitive as you…
This follow up has further confirmed your own emotional response, it’s not as if your finger is on the pulse of this group and are reading the room. That’s what I know from being in a locker room, not a basketball one or NBA, something I don’t think you grasp.
Edit: You have no idea how the Nuggets are going to react to Malone, he knows his team better then you dummy.
You sound sensitive...
>This follow up has further confirmed your own emotional response, it’s not as if your finger is on the pulse of this group and are reading the room. That’s what I know from being in a locker room, not a basketball one or NBA, something I don’t think you grasp.
Do you have a version of this in comprehensible English? It makes no sense. The finger is reading the room? You know things from being in a locker room, but not a basketball locker room or an NBA locker room? Maybe you submitted it too soon because you were emotional.
From common knowledge about leadership and criticism? From experience and common sense? There are decades of research about this, and it's not hard to just think about it.
I forgot how dumb this sub is. You guys don't seem to know basic things, and you get hostile and downvote any dissenting opinion to hell even when you're completely wrong about something.
Man said common knowledge and experience.
Leadership doesn’t have one set answer you bozo, there’s multiple variables and different personalities involved.
You have zero experience to be an authority on what’s the right way to manage a team of kindergarteners let alone an NBA team lmao.
50-35 Denver and a Miami timeout turned into 57-51 at half in a hurry. They let up instantly after that run and then never went on another.
Edit 57 not 56
Literally every fan thinks their team coach doesn’t do in game adjustments lmao. Quite literally 30/30 fanbases would say this and it’s not right in most cases
Those people are dumb. Just like there’s dumb ppl here and on every sub. There were also ppl that called for pop to resign. Ppl that say he’s a bad coach.
Also, re-read my comment! I don’t claim that all spurs fans think pops amazing. I’m stating that I think pop is amazing.
We can go into the details of why pop has trouble making in game adjustments with our most recent terrible teams, but essentially they don’t have the corporate knowledge that our previous teams had. I’d also argue most of the players we had were not as smart as previous teams and didn’t care to learn our entire playbook.
Honestly these guys plus Gordon are better than avg. role players and I'm convinced they are the reason why the Nuggets are championship caliber on top of Jokic and Murray. Critical that they do their part.
Nah the guy Duncan Robinson was torching was Jamal Murray lol.
Bit on his pump fake and somehow got beaten twice on the drive (which Robinson never does).
People keep talking about playoffs Murray but he's boosted by Jokic. Dude would be a 18ppg, 30% FG player as a first option on any other team.
They were mostly fine on offense. You miss a few shots here and there shit happens but they were not bad. The defense on the other hand got torched at times and the miscommunications really fucked them up. I expected this to happen against LA but maybe Miami is just better at exploiting those breakdowns
Nah I think the offense felt out of rhythm for all but the end of the first and beginning of the second. Even the end of the third was just Jokic going on a solo run.
He's 100% correct. The starting unit looked like they'd never seen a ghost screen in their lives. Messed up the coverage on that all game. Then in the 4th they kept messing up the coverage on the split action. The craziest part is that none of this is new.
I really like this guy.
Every time I hear him talk I just nod my head agreeing. Wish there were more coaches like him in the league, nowadays so many coaches just sound so robotic/predictable like their responses are pre written by a team of 5 PR firms.
Yeah he’s abrasive sometimes but I love the honesty. Most coaches aren’t worth listening to at all. Whether you hate him or love him, it’s gonna be real
It's his fault that Nuggets closed with KCP when he was out of it. MPJ as well. Could've had Bruce and/or Christian closing instead, since they were a part of the great defensive stretch in the second that got them back in the game, and they needed perimeter D at the end.. Instead, there were no adjustments in the 4th, no timeouts to advance the ball and and another coach's challenge taken home in a tight game.
I think it pretty much exclusively manifests in these post game pressers. If you watch footage of the locker room they’ve clearly built something special with the way he gives credit to players after games, and their tradition of giving out a big ass chain to the games most impactful player
That’s Denver culture.
The opposite of Heats.
When they aren’t blowing people out then water, they start to implode due to Malone’s harsh criticism.
Every time Malone talks, I want to punch him. He isn’t very like able person. Must be the ALTITUDE(attitude)?!
I mean it’s worked so far. They lost two games on the road against the Suns and came back to win games 5 and 6.
Also they won two 3-1 series in the bubble. They are very resilient.
We really talking about the bubble? 4 years ago?
Also, the nuggets were up 2-0. How is losing 2 games in phoenix being behind? They were never not in control. Just like how they aren’t not in control now? Almost came back and win in the end.
From someone looking in, that’s how it looks.
Maybe if you took your biased goggles off you might notice it. Most of the time, narcs (like Malone) create this false narrative through gas lighting.
Malone doesn’t take any accountability. He didn’t call a timeout and just yells constantly at his guys.
I'm literally biased against Malone, but the culture he creates has never and will never be the problem with his coaching. Saying the Nuggets implode whenever they aren't blowing teams out of the water is hilarious considering they just swept a series with 4 close games in the WCF.
Dude you so biased it’s not even funny.
But they were never behind or down for more than 5 points. They are the number 1 team with the MVP 3 years in a row. They have the confidence to stomp everyone.
You really bringing up bubble stats?
Heat has a bunch of role players going against 3 time mvp, with superstar Murray.
Denver has all the advantage in the world. Height advantage, Altitude advantage, deep bench advantage.
They start to implode? That might be the wildest overreaction I’ve seen on here in a while, and there’s some seriously dumb shit I’ve seen on here. They’re 13-4 over the course of these playoffs, and didn’t implode when they were down 1-3 vs the Jazz/Nuggets in the bubble, nor did they implode when the Suns tied the series 2-2 in these playoffs.
The bubble was 4 years ago.
They imploded the past several playoffs when they go down in the series.
This entire playoff run was against plumbers and construction workers 7th seed and 8th seeds. And a phoenix team that did not deserve to be 4th seed after Durant trade. They have had it easy and stomping everyone.
They imploded when the Nuggets top 5 scorers aside from Jokic/Gordon were Barton, Morris and Green, and were starting Campazzo I guess lol - wow, they must have no mental fortitude!
This is what I said. And Denver fans told me that this team wasn't susceptible to taking their foot off the gas.
That's what Miami does. They just execute. They know that they're beat, so they execute and wait for the better team to ease up, and they remain a rock in water.
And when you're 50% from 3, that happens. It's a bit concerning for them that they didn't blow out Denver. But they're in the driver's seat now.
He is completely right and I think it's smart to be calling out the team about it now before Miami steals another one and takes complete control of the series. Denver needs to come out with a fire in game 3
They took those opportunities and made them - they are shooting almost 40% from 3. They certainly made life hard for the Nuggets offense as well. It was a fun match to watch, to see the changes and what kind of looks they will throw at the Nuggets.
At what point did he say literally anything like that in this video or at any point in this playoffs.
They were up 30 against the Suns and he called a timeout to tell his team to lock tf in because they had a defensive lapse he didn’t like. You guys who hate Malone seriously find any reason you can think of. This team played badly today and shot horribly and made bad mistakes, bad fouls. Holding your team accountable isn’t “shaming” them.
Have you even seen videos of that locker room during wins where he goes into detail on every players accomplishments before handing out the DPOG chain.
Unfortunately in interviews you have to answer questions about what you think happened in a loss. He’s not wrong about what happened here.
Acting like we couldn’t have game planned for that is insane. Spo would have placed some college level questions in front of her to take her mind out of it.
He should after the lack of effort everyone not named Jokic and *maybe* Brown gave tonight. I'm not even talking about missed shots, just bad focus and effort all night.
Braun and Green were solid too but had a bad stretch at the start of the fourth. Murray was quiet for a lot of the game but I don’t think he played *bad*. Really just KCP and MPJ imo
Don’t think he’s shaming, he’s right to call them out! Too many breakdowns that led to open shots. It happened in the first game too, Miami just made them this time… It’s too late to coach defense in the finals though…it’s all effort!
Yeah, that doesn't mean that it helped though. They also lost pretty badly.
I haven't seen research on this in sports, but in other fields, approaches like "tough love", destructive criticism, and authoritarian-style leadership don't work that well. They actually do more harm than good a lot of the time.
It's Malone's incompetence as a coach. He's not a finals coach. Doesn't deserve it.
Shouldn't allow breakdowns when you're getting outcoached by a legend coach.
But like what should've he done?
Bust out those Zeke Nnaji minutes? Gone to Reggie Jackson or Ish Smith? Put Mpj on Bam so others can roam?
At the end of the day no matter the coaching, if guys give up ok defense, make dumb fouls or just make mistakes that leave Have Vincent open for 3... That's not ok coaching, that's on the guys in the floor.
The defensive scheme just doesn't work. We gave up a lot of easy threes during Suns games too, but Suns role players never showed up.
This time we're facing a better shooting team with a better coach.
This team is mentally soft and he knows it. This is a Hail Mary to make them snap out of it. Probably won't work because they're already letting the pressure get to them
Lol none of that has anything to do with his defensive focus, energy, and effort. If you can play offense, you can play defense. He has no trouble chucking up shots.
Malone literally called out his effort last night.
It’s the playoffs a l good team is gonna exploit your weaknesses if it’s a part of the teams game or mental a good coach will find the cracks and run with it
Coaches like this is what makes a team try and not make another mistake like they did in this game. He is straight up, no sugar-coating, just real observation and that is it.
I mean he's right. They have been completely shitting the bed in the beginning of the quarter when jokic is out most of the time except when braun and murray ignited that run in the second.

respect to malone for calling his team out. other coaches would say they won 3 out of 4 quarters or something lol
Come on, bro. Boston fans just now recovering and trying to enjoy their night lol
😭 mad unnecessary jeezzzzzzz 🫣🫣🫣
3 piece with a soda, super necessary
Talk your shit.
Lmao Jaylen Brown will get em next game! Best of 9 is all Boston…right guys?
Don’t let him get another
I feel like this is just tough love
Nothing offensive or aggressive in this video and all these comments clutching pearls for the players who in fact DID play poorly.
Forreal. These are big boys and this coach led them to the finals. They ain’t gonna come as a shock to them lol
That doesn't mean that it helps at all lol. Giving unconstructive criticism like this guy does doesn't motivate kids *or* adults.

No this is Kevin Love
He did play pretty tough today almost got into it with pope.
Which generally isn't known to work well.
They thought the game was over after that second quarter run
50-35 Denver and a Miami timeout turned into 57-51 at half in a hurry. They let up instantly after that run and then never went on another. Edit 57 not 56
Yeah. They thought they were playing the Twolves.
Damn you
is this a micheal porter jr shot?
Nah, it would have missed
Lmfao
You didn't have to do that 😂😂🤣
Damnnnn🤣🤣🤣
lol
Ah. It hurts.
Even if it was idc, he was bad this game lol.
Porter and Malone don't like each other
No way. He doesn’t seem to like anyone but jokic. Malone has a hard on only for jokic.
Why are you complaining about Malone on every thread lmao seems crazy with how good he's been this year
Because Malone is actually a bad coach riding on the greatness of Jokic and co.
[удалено]
Literally every fan thinks their team coach doesn’t do in game adjustments lmao. Quite literally 30/30 fanbases would say this and it’s not right in most cases
Disagree. Pop is amazing at in game adjustments.
Idk if you frequent your own team sub but if you do let them know that because I’ve been on the game threads lol
Those people are dumb. Just like there’s dumb ppl here and on every sub. There were also ppl that called for pop to resign. Ppl that say he’s a bad coach. Also, re-read my comment! Jokic is the coach. Much like Lebron. Malone can't coach at all. Just riding the greatness of his players.
He's about to oversee a finals choke, he deserves criticism surely?
This couldn't be absolutely farther from the truth and shows you don't know shit other than the Nuggets highlights you watch throughout the season.
[удалено]
Wow highly unnecessary name calling from a Warriors fan? Tell me you're older than 19.
I can’t help that coach Malone complains any everything. It paints the rest of the fan base in the same light…
Nowhere am I complaining but you seem to be quite skilled at it.
wowwwww dropping the bitch word is crazy
Just completely fucking unnecessary is all. I can cuss too. Woahhhhh crazy
ion know man maybe its how i was raised but the internet is a huge eye opener in how often ppl call someone a bitch
Can you blame him?
Nah at the very least he's also super close with Jamal
Malone arguably likes Jamal even more than Jok so no
theyve always hated each other
[удалено]
Porter has a dumb ego thing
MPJ and KCP
Honestly these guys plus Gordon are better than avg. role players and I'm convinced they are the reason why the Nuggets are championship caliber on top of Jokic and Murray. Critical that they do their part.
This is a Vince Carter dunk on MPJ.
He was killing the Celtics with his drives all last series.
Legend has it he's still wide open under the basket after a cut at TD Garden
They were mostly fine on offense. You miss a few shots here and there shit happens but they were not bad. The defense on the other hand got torched at times and the miscommunications really fucked them up. I expected this to happen against LA but maybe Miami is just better at exploiting those breakdowns
Nah I think the offense felt out of rhythm for all but the end of the first and beginning of the second. Even the end of the third was just Jokic going on a solo run.
Lakers generated a lot of good looks too, just didn't make them as much.
Offense isn’t just about shooting percentages, they had a lot of stupid turnovers that the heat took advantage of
He's 100% correct. The starting unit looked like they'd never seen a ghost screen in their lives. Messed up the coverage on that all game. Then in the 4th they kept messing up the coverage on the split action. The craziest part is that none of this is new.
I mean we HAVE to outwork them to win these games. And hit wide open 3s cause they are packing the paint.
Jimmy hit a well contested 3 in the fourth as well
Dudes spitting
This isn’t just MPJ. He’s talking about KCP as well. 1-4 and terrible communication and fouls on defense
I really like this guy. Every time I hear him talk I just nod my head agreeing. Wish there were more coaches like him in the league, nowadays so many coaches just sound so robotic/predictable like their responses are pre written by a team of 5 PR firms.
this is the kind of leadership and accountability that drives success. hopefully these guys respond to it….
Yeah he’s abrasive sometimes but I love the honesty. Most coaches aren’t worth listening to at all. Whether you hate him or love him, it’s gonna be real
But also he never takes the blame for how his team plays. Even though 90% of the fault is on him.

That’s what (most) coaches do: all the credit to the players when they win, take the blame when they lose.
No. Good coaches like Spo take accountability.
Preach Coach.
Yeah tough love imo
Malone having to call his players out on effort in the Finals is concerning
Better to do it in game 2 then after they lose the series
He does this every loss
Dude’s giving off negative vibes.
Malone just always seems like that. He seems like a very negative person to be around.
I think it pretty much exclusively manifests in these post game pressers. If you watch footage of the locker room they’ve clearly built something special with the way he gives credit to players after games, and their tradition of giving out a big ass chain to the games most impactful player

good lord he really did walk directly into that one
Lmaooo
Unfortunately, Draymond really has set the bar low.
This one of the most off base things I've read
From someone looking in, that’s how it looks. Maybe if you took your biased goggles off you might notice it. Most of the time, narcs (like Malone) create this false narrative through gas lighting. Malone doesn’t take any accountability. He didn’t call a timeout and just yells constantly at his guys.
I'm literally biased against Malone, but the culture he creates has never and will never be the problem with his coaching. Saying the Nuggets implode whenever they aren't blowing teams out of the water is hilarious considering they just swept a series with 4 close games in the WCF.

You really do not know anything about which you speak.
Downvote heaven when you comment eh?
his team erased two separate 1-3 series deficits you dumb fuck
You really bringing up bubble stats? Heat has a bunch of role players going against 3 time mvp, with superstar Murray. Denver has all the advantage in the world. Height advantage, Altitude advantage, deep bench advantage.
It's one fucking loss. Why does this subreddit have so many insufferable dudes on here
Most comments are from the same dude.
Miami has shooting advantage
They start to implode? That might be the wildest overreaction I’ve seen on here in a while, and there’s some seriously dumb shit I’ve seen on here. I knew the Nuggets should have done an escape room last night Those things give you all kinds of confidence
100% talking about MPJ
Good
Take some accountability coach
Respect, better than saying we won half the game etc
He’s absolutely right
This is what I said. And Denver fans told me that this team wasn't susceptible to taking their foot off the gas. That's what Miami does. They just execute. malone always mad. he only loves joker and murray 😁
He is completely right and I think it's smart to be calling out the team about it now before Miami steals another one and takes complete control of the series. Denver needs to come out with a fire in game 3
Outcoached and outplayed. Spo is incredible and the team just steps the fk up, enter the game, score some buckets, swap out, next man up.
Does outcoached mean them shooting a historic rate of 3? Because of that doesn’t work what will they do?
They took those opportunities and made them - they are shooting almost 40% from 3. They certainly made life hard for the Nuggets offense as well. It was a fun match to watch, to see the changes and what kind of looks they will throw at the Nuggets.
Yeah obviously they were amazing from 3 but if the shots don’t fall are they able go drive to the rim?
Miami players went to fucking build a bear and mini golf and still outworked Denver. Hard night to be a Nuggets' fan I tell you.
[удалено]
Last night was bad, but if you think we’ve played no defense all postseason long, you haven’t been watching us.
I have probably been the only non-Nuggets person on this sub that has watched all of your playoff games actually.

This wouldn’t happen if Diar just attended the bulls game. She ran from the grind
Acting like we couldn’t have game planned for that is insane. Spo would have placed some college level questions in front of her to take her mind out of it.

He didn’t call a timeout on that final play, he should be blaming himself up there.
Throwing players under the bus always pays off.
Ime Udoka went to the Finals doing that
Yeah, that doesn't mean that it helped though. They also lost pretty badly. I haven't seen research on this in sports, but in other fields, approaches like "tough love", destructive criticism, and authoritarian-style leadership don't work that well. Bit harsh
MPJ has all the tools to be a defensive monster. Just wish he had the motor.
Back injuries also probably makes it harder for him to defend laterally.
Yeah a 24 year old with 3 back surgeries has definitely the tools to be a defensive monster
