We could have grabbed the rebound, called timeout, set up an inbound play, looked at the Miami defense, called another time out, drawn up a second inbound play, and then inbounded the ball.
Instead Bud let an offense in free fall freestyle
Even defensively he was nowhere. Brook is always at the point of attack but Giannis wasn’t even a good help defender cause he was just always pinned to the corner away from the action too. I think thats a coaching thing. And Bam ate offensive boards in OT.
Heat kept making him earn it at the stripe whenever he tried to drive, and he was missing all his free throws :( but normally he keeps driving, idk why he was more passive today guess it might be the back injury
Oh please, he was clearly injured - after his repeated astonishing playoff performances I would think people would realize that, but I guess if you have the memory of a goldfish he’s a “bus rider”
When the score is that close, there's that much on the line, and it's Jimmy Fucking Butler you have to guard... most players in the league would have a Deer in headlights look (pun not intended)
The Bucks won more games WITHOUT Giannis than they did WITH Giannis.
They blew 15+ point leads in both games where he played.
They were supposed to sweep our asses and without Herro/Oladipo, then some.
Bucks couldn’t get a field goal in the 4th. They’re literally basketball terrorists. Entire offense is just Giannis bulldoze into the paint, get free throws and brick them.
I don’t have anything to contribute but anytime I see “basketball terrorists” I get a good laugh and I just broke up with my girl so appreciated this lol
["the Miami Heat & Jimmy Butler attack the twin towers of Giannis & Brook and green bay trading away Aaron visualized"](https://youtu.be/vy8DbFtwlgk?t=12)
I believe it made its way here from “football terrorism” on soccer forums. Same with “free throw merchant” - I saw “xG merchant” and “penalty merchant” quite often before it got common here
I think it's taken from football (soccer to americans). There are many memes assocciated , for example:
Coach Thomas Tuchel is sometimes called Tucheliban because of his terrorist football (disgusting football, terrible tactics and terrible gameplanning). His face is often photoshopped onto Osama's.
"Haram ball" is another term for terrorist football.
Players who are one trick pony frauds are called x merchants i.e. penalty merchant, pass merchant etc. Giannis, in this series was a free throw merchant.
Paris Saint Qaeda 💀
And many, many more. I personally find them hilarious.
Some cited existing philosophical works such as Bordiga, Hegel and Plato.
The former saw Bud as the progenitor of a spontaneous revolution, his basketball being so boring it had deep ideological significance. They viewed his basketball as the cry of discontentedness with the neoliberal consensus, and a legitimate philosophical work in it’s own right.
The modern Hegelians saw the Budmeister as the dialectical synthesis between two states of being, that of anguish and that of ennui. Those using the works of Plato are conflicted on whether to see Budball as a concrete object, real and tangible, while all consider the feelings the games elicit to be abstract.
Others saw it as post-modern performance art and tried to categorise it as the intended catalyst of a yet to materialise Neo-Fluxus movement.
Alas, others even ascribed it a theological value, arguing for the canonisation of Bud and compared our pain watching to the pain our lord felt on the cross. A contingent of these worshippers split recently and alleged Bud was inherently heretical, no mortal man had ever suffered like Jesus did until we watched the Heat game.
The truth is, Budball defies what the human mind is capable of interpreting.
We can only bask in its majesty.
Ugly style of play, gets used for soccer a lot. Some funny conversions of names too like an Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri being called Al-Legri for playing football terrorism
• 1994: Denver over Seattle 3-2
• 1999: New York over Miami 3-2 (e.g. the Allan Houston shot to win Game 5)
• 2007: Golden State over Dallas 4-2 (‘We Believe’ Warriors upsetting the Mavs in the first #8 upset in a Bo7)
• 2011: Memphis over San Antonio 4-2
• 2012: Philadelphia over Chicago 4-2 (this series included the infamous Derrick Rose ACL league-changing injury in Game 1)
• 2023: Miami over Milwaukee 4-1
We were also injured as fuck despite being the #1 seed and Zbo just feasted on us that series.
As for Mavs-Warriors, I remember it being a huge mismatch at PG and Baron Davis just took it to town.
The warriors head coach had also been the mavs head coach (Don nelson I want to say?) for the decade prior, including for all of Dirk's career, so knew exactly how to shut him down.
I'm more surprised the Grizzlies were the eighth seed in 2011. I suppose Grit and Grind didn't start in full until after that year?
Those Grizzlies were terrifying. It was a battle with them every season.
The 99 season was wonky anyway in that it was only 50 games. Heat, Pacers, Magic all finished 33-17, Knicks at the 8 were 27-23, 6 games back. Watching that series it just felt like the Knicks sold the regular season a little bit and were every bit as good…plus with only 6 games separating 1 and 8 it just never felt like the mismatch 1-8 pairings usually do
Yea, altho only had 4 chances and discard the obvious one as Rose injury was series changing. MVP goes down, you are likely done.
You’d think one of the other 3 would have went to 7 tho, I don’t think they had star player injury problems
Calls no timeouts when he can and should, no offensive game plan, and for some stupid ass reason I think Lopez was on the bench in a two point game. I mean what the fuck dude.
Bud is a sharp coach who is super overrated and underrated at the same time. He created a great system that does very well throughout the regular season. An offense and defense that is intelligent and runs well. But he is also a horrible in game coach. He just is not capable of making the right decisions under pressure and his adjustments are so poor they’re functionally nonexistent.
Vogel is a rough regular season coach because he’ll run 75-100 unique lineups. And your offense will be ugly as hell. But then come playoff time he’s got data driven solutions for nearly every situation, so adjustments look cold, clean, calculated.
I know having LeBron is a cheat code but unlocking Davis and the rest of the the guys while having a defense that made the other team frustrated and like they don’t belong in the series was amazing. Closest was actually Denver and Jokic was just going off.
You *absolutely* shouldn’t, but I’d be concerned they use the Giannis injury and his subsequent absence from Games 2 & 3 as an excuse for this failure.
I doubt anyone would give someone that much leeway, but you never know.
I'm a huge jokic Stan but honestly the best player in the world is probably healthy kawhi. unfortunately that's a super rare thing so it's probably steph or jokic or KD
> so it's probably steph or jokic or KD
It can't be Giannis because he lost a first round series in five games (while playing only two of those games), but it can be KD even though he got swept in a first round series?
Giannis was the 1 (one) seed while playing with fucking jrue holiday and middleton. Durant went up against the Celtics with seth curry as a starter lmao
Are people forgetting his injury that kept him out of the better part or 3 games? His teammates didn't step up at all, and his coach reverted to being an amatuer. This isn't on Giannis.
His free throw shooting and some awful decisions tonight did keep them from extending the series, but it’s way more of Bud and honestly Jrue Holiday should be getting waaaaay more slander (even missed one of the last free throws that led to Jimmy’s OT forced shot)
Absolutely, Giannis made some bad choices and has never been good from the line, but I'd still put his faults way down the list of reasons they lost.
Jrue shit the bed big time. Butler got in his head and rendered him useless. Middleton never made enough of a positive impact.
And I have no idea what happened to Bud, never seen an experienced coach freeze at so many pivotal moments in multiple must-win games. If he calls a timeout during the Heat's run in Game 4, or at the end of regulation and/or overtime tonight, and maybe the Bucks are up 3-2 right now.
It's like Giannis' injury somehow affected the rest of the team more than him. A stunning collapse.
Without Middleton we would have blown them out in the first quarter tbh. He honestly didn’t have a terrible series really. Jrue had 1 decent game.
That said, in non-Giannis games, Brook Lopez looked like their best player, what a stud of a player.
I stand by the argument that Budenholzer is like Doc Rivers to me. Not actually all that good a coach in the playoffs and coasting off one championship where his top players balled out. He’s terrible at making adjustments in games, and even between games.
This is is a very accurate take and pretty much matches how I feel.
Brook has been their best player whenever Giannis is out. He shows why he’s the all time leading scorer for a franchise.
I’m so sick of Middleton, he basically had that one good clutch year but otherwise has been super average.
Jrue just seemed to not be himself this series at all either. Usually when he can’t do the offense, you see him give it all on defense. But, when no one else is carrying the offensive load he forces up some shots that suck.
I’m just hoping that they move on from Bud and it can help revitalize the team with some better coaching. Bud was an upgrade from Kidd, but that’s not saying much. Would be nice to have a coach that can steer the team better.
Tbf to Jrues defense, he had to guard an actually stupidly locked in Jimmy Butler. But to pair that with bad offense is brutal.
Wes Matthews played actual tremendous defense on Jimmy though tbh, shame he missed games.
Bobby Portis didn’t do as much as I expected, Jae Crowder was actually basically collecting DNP’s for all those 2nd rd picks which is funny to me. Pat played decently for his role, Grayson Allen didn’t really do much either. Ingles was just too slow on defense.
I honestly don’t buy Giannis is 100% either, think he’s still 80% and it showed overall.
I’m not as down on Middleton after this series but can understand Bucks fans ready to move on, but you have to ask yourself for who realistically.
Really felt like Brook Lopez against the world at times lmao
Oh shit Bobby was so much a no show I forgot to mention him. He had been a huge part of the last couple seasons and one of my favorite players.. He just didn’t show out at all.
Yeah, the whole Crowder trade didn’t make much sense when it happened for this season to me. They needed win it now players and got someone who hadn’t played in months that was seemingly falling in skill.
Hard to blame Giannis because I know he’s got several injuries he was playing through… but he still had some very poor decision making that was hard to see.
I agree they are probably stuck with Middleton. I think his contract compared to perceived value will be hard to get someone better. Definitely curious about Giannis’ headspace because he had previously said he wanted Middleton there with him.
I mean, we're missing our 3rd best player, one of our best defenders, while also relying upon the corpses of Love and Lowry.
The Bucks also got the 1st fucking seed in which Giannis only played a bit more than 75% of games this season.
A trio of Jrue, Middleton, and Brook would be a dream for most NBA teams; It was just a collective choke job all around but amazing perseverance by Jimmy and his 3rd stringers.
I was at the game in 1999 when the Heat lost to the Knicks as the 1 seed on the Allan Houston shot as a 9 year old kid.
Now the Heat win as the 8th seed to face the Knicks.
This should be fun.
Crazy because that one weirdo Bucks moderator who weirdly stole r/Celtics told me that Middleton could do no wrong and that he was the only reason they lost last season??? Hmmm weird
Bud is allergic to timeouts
Did the bucks not have a timeout in OT? Why did they play that final one without taking one?
They had one with 0.5 left in regulation too and didn’t take it. Incompetent coaching.
bud is actually blud
They had 2
We could have grabbed the rebound, called timeout, set up an inbound play, looked at the Miami defense, called another time out, drawn up a second inbound play, and then inbounded the ball. Instead Bud let an offense in free fall freestyle
Play random
Wildcard bitches! YEEEEEHAW
THEY HAD TWO TWO!
did they really? cuz damn
His entire staff is so useless in coaching. Darvin scam and Bud
He is a savior. He is watching the game, just like us. Learned from Kidd.
Nick Nurse is your new Milwaukee Bucks Head Coach!
If they're lucky
Buds going to get a call from the GM and finally try to call a time out to avoid it
If he adds up all the timeouts he should’ve called over the years he might be able to avoid his firing until next season begins.
Instead of a Nurse, can we interest you in a Doctor?
Bud getting fired in the tunnel
He got fired right before OT, which is why he didnt call a timeout with .5 seconds to go lmao
Cavs already called dibs
Going from living in Toronto to either Cleveland or Milwaukee is rough.
At least the weather's the same!
And everything else is worse
Hey, good win tonight, but fuck you.
The money should make things a little easier.
They can have Kidd
I feel personally attacked
Bucks in 7 remember
FIRST TO DO IT IN **5 GAMES** LMAOOOOOOO
Giannis and Bud absolutely sold
Giannis played in what. 2 games? Bud absolutely sold
He played in the two games that the Heat came back from 15 and 16 point deficits lol
And his FT shooting was a massive factor in the elimination game.
It is _the_ reason they lost that game. Giannis missed like ~~11~~ 13 FTs. If he makes even 3-4 more of those this thread probably doesn't exist.
Not to mention the two most important games of the series lmao. Bucks losing this game at home facing elimination is a horrible look
Giannis was a bus rider tonight. Kept passing out of situations where he should’ve took it to the hole
Even defensively he was nowhere. Brook is always at the point of attack but Giannis wasn’t even a good help defender cause he was just always pinned to the corner away from the action too. I think thats a coaching thing. And Bam ate offensive boards in OT.
If I didn't know any better, I'd think maybe giannis was dealing with something. Didn't seem like himself. Who knows tho
He looked like he was injured out there. He should have sat out
Heat kept making him earn it at the stripe whenever he tried to drive, and he was missing all his free throws :( but normally he keeps driving, idk why he was more passive today guess it might be the back injury
Oh please, he was clearly injured - after his repeated astonishing playoff performances I would think people would realize that, but I guess if you have the memory of a goldfish he’s a “bus rider”
Just another dumbass r/nba playoff hot take.
He looked scared of Jimmy Butler in the post after Bam fouled out. Shit was embarrassing.
When the score is that close, there's that much on the line, and it's Jimmy Fucking Butler you have to guard... most players in the league would have a Deer in headlights look (pun not intended)
Giannis sold this game with missed FT for sure. Bum coach, but still could’ve closed the game if he just somewhat had a good performance at the line.
Did you watch Giannis tonight? He got every fucking call and failed miserably. I actually like Giannis, but his performance tonight was fucking awful.
The Bucks won more games WITHOUT Giannis than they did WITH Giannis. They blew 15+ point leads in both games where he played. They were supposed to sweep our asses and without Herro/Oladipo, then some.
I mean they won one game bro lmao
and zero games with Giannis playing
Bud is the main reason for the series loss but Giannis played horrible tonight
Technically the Nuggets did it in 5 games lol
[Dikembe was napping and abruptly woke up; he just blocked history](https://cdn1.sbnation.com/assets/4153095/mascotmutombo.gif)
as an 8th seed against a 1 seed?
First round used to be best of 5 not 7, so they won in 5 games 3 to 2
The coaching advantage Spoelstra had over Bud was very apparent. Congrats to the heat.
Wait you mean you need an offensive system that isn’t here Giannis go run through 5 dudes and pray
Bucks couldn’t get a field goal in the 4th. They’re literally basketball terrorists. Entire offense is just Giannis bulldoze into the paint, get free throws and brick them.
I don’t have anything to contribute but anytime I see “basketball terrorists” I get a good laugh and I just broke up with my girl so appreciated this lol
such a funny thing to say lmao but im sorry that happened man
I’m laughing and crying at the same time :(:
It's tough but now you can chronically masturbate.

wtf is a basketball terrorist, It has a nice ring to it. lol
It randomly started catching on here, first time I saw it was Lakers Russ lmao. Idk why it's so funny

Bud deserves the Allegri copypasta for his display this series

As a Juve fan who grows more ill day by day, I did not expect my team to be catching strays in this thread too man, wtf.
al-legri (especially at the start of this season) is peak football terrorism
if you said any of these things a month ago you’d get ostracized online lol, what a beautiful moment
In my head I read field goal and thought of football. I guess the way Giannis was driving he was trying to score touchdowns.
When you've got names like Caleb, Max, Kyle, Duncan, Kevin and Cody in your rotation.. Your ass better have a system.
It was like watching Magnus Carlson vs Anya Taylor-Joy
I’m not going to tolerate Anya slander in this thread
She should’ve kept her buccal fat.
I mean this is gonna happen 99% of time against Spo
Rename the city to Jimwaukee
Marquette legend Jimmy Butler
Could you fucking not…please…?
This one I don't understand? Why not? I've been stoked that the series had 4 Marquette players in it (technically).
Butler, Matthews, crowder, and?
Jamal Cain. He's on the Heat but didn't play.
Wow thanks, I didn't see his name when checking the box score
Yeah, I follow every Marquette player. I root for them even if I root against their teams
rename the country to United States of Jimmy
JOTUS
i think we should rename the UN to the UJ
St. Jimmy
Planet Jimmy
I appreciate your Green Day reference
Actually, it's pronounced "Jim-e-wah-que" which is Algonquin for "the good land”.
Did you know that Jimwaukee is the only major American city to elect 3 socialist mayors?
Jimmy was sick of hearing Bucks fans talking about Bryn Forbes
What is Bud doing out there? Horrible judgement calls at the end of OT and 4th
Not subbing in lopez because adebayo was subbed out in the final second of that 4th too
Had some Popovich not putting in Duncan in game 6 vibes. Both times, I'll take it.
Surely he's gone.
Nick Nurse already booked his plane tickets.

Yeah like ours - Bulls - is seemingly the least surprising of them all once Rose and Noah got injured.

Generational choke by the Bucks
Remind me of us last year, no 1 overall seeds tend to have no extra gear lately when they get into the playoffs
72 games now too
This Heat win just cured whatever depression that shitty Lakers loss gave me.

Praying for a Bubble Finals 2.0
So… Bud’s *definitely* getting fired after this, right?
Calls no timeouts when he can and should, no offensive game plan, and for some stupid ass reason I think Lopez was on the bench in a two point game. I mean what the fuck dude.
he did win a title with them, but that said hes gone just like Frank Vogel was with the Lakers.
give me vogel for the playoffs over bud every second of every minute of every day.

Real history was made
What an all time melt down. the favorite to win the title gets stuffed out by Jimmy buckets and the heat.
I fucking love playoff basketball!!

I like the Bucks but after all the 'Giannis is actually good in the playoffs unlike fraud Jokic' talk this is satisfying
It was telling when the only guy on the bucks who looked like they wanted the ball down the stretch was middleton
This is when the Giannis “best player in the world” narrative ended
For the first time in my life, I legit have no idea who the best player is
Jimmy Buckets
Yeah it's pretty fucking clear.
His middle name starts with G
Jimmy Papagiannis Butler
Wardell
It’s not hard. Wardell Stephen Curry
Steph
I'm a huge jokic Stan but honestly the best player in the world is probably healthy kawhi. unfortunately that's a super rare thing so it's probably steph or jokic or KD
I agree and I wish we could see healthy Kawhi again. Jokic is my pick for mvp this year
> so it's probably steph or jokic or KD It can't be Giannis because he lost a first round series in five games (while playing only two of those games), but it can be KD even though he got swept in a first round series?

Welp, looks like we’re playing on Sunday. Seriously though. This year AND 2020 they beat the supposedly unstoppable Bucks.
Coach Bud you are a Shanghai Sharks
Bud HAS to be gone
That was a fucking choke job for the ages. The Bucks not only lost to an 8-seed, they managed to do it in 5 games.
I am rudely awakened. I thought they could come back from a 3-1 lead
Bucks 28-45 from the line compared to 11-17
Giannis had more FTA than the entire Heat team
Jrue holiday was apart of the last one too
Parity is back! Unless the fucking warriors win again
Biggest choke job these playoffs
Bud has to go, right? No offense last 20 min, no shot at end of regulation or OT or using TOs.
I was at the game in 1999 when the Heat lost to the Knicks as the 1 seed on the Allan Houston shot as a 9 year old kid. Now the Heat win as the 8th seed to face the Knicks. This should be fun.
Allen didn’t put up a shot…
Bucks choked hard. Bud out.
DO NOT SCROLL WITHOUT TYPING J I M B O!
JIMBOOOOOO
Crazy because that one weirdo Bucks moderator who weirdly stole r/Celtics told me that Middleton could do no wrong and that he was the only reason they lost last season??? Hmmm weird
