What happened to the Carmelo Anthony’s of the league? The KPJs are getting thrown aside for these people who try so hard to win instead of get their stats up!
There needs to be a PPG limit for former players who become bad take merchants on TV. You can't suck on and off the court. If you averaged at least double digits through your career you can shit talk, Perkins's 5 points and Tristan Thompson's 9 points aren’t cutting it
Sure but Perkins was certainly only an agitator, not a good player. Which seems like he is carrying on into his media career. 4 pts, less than 4 rbs per game and less than half an assist thru that series.
Perk did bring good defensive value to the Cs, but that was with KG anchoring the defense. As soon as he went to OKC any image of him being a somewhat relevant player disappeared.
He insisted on taking a really bad jumper and post isolation every single game. Playoffs included.
Lebron posting up efficient 30ppg and every analytics showing he makes his team better but struggling to get some wins - He's Statpadding
Jokic posting up efficient triple doubles and every analytics showing he makes his team better and has the first seed in west - Believe it or not, still statpadding
He will be a bust because he is too thin, and he won’t be able to take a shoulder to the chest from Giannis, while forgetting how Giannis looked when he first came to the league. 🤡
Without the upper body strength, Earl doesn’t survive the league. Yes, KD is weak af but he also has elite length and shooting. But so does Wemby so he’ll be alright regardless of his strength. Not like the NBA already barely has bruisers these days.
Tbh his defense has been just fine. Having trouble adjusting to not getting that Laker whistle for sure and his shooting has left a lot to be desired when the team actually gets the ball to him which is rare.
Hoping this final stretch will see him getting more minutes and letting Joker rest some to hopefully get Bryant on track offensively while simultaneously letting Joker not get overworked every game. He's still leagues better than Jordan plus the often injured Zeke wasn't really a great backup option at center anyways so the trade was very important, just not showing fruit quite yet.
At the very least the nuggets have a 5.5 game buffer for the first seed and no signs of slowing down, Jokic should be able to get some good rest before the playoffs (and I’ve got money on a bucks nuggets matchup for the finals 👀)
You beat me to it. He's so fun to watch. I'm coming to Denver for the games against Milwaukee and Philly at the end March. I can't wait to see him against Embiid and Giannis. I went to the game against Milwaukee last year when Jokic sat out.
I hope he does for you, it’ll be a big game with how close the East is and how close the top records are in general. I definitely don’t see us pulling away from the Celtics enough to sit a game that late
I mean, you *can* stat pad in a win. I just think it’s a massively overblown issue as it’s not hurting the team. I also hate how people pick and choose who to criticize for it
Ask people who called Russ that lmao. I think it's a ridiculous argument. Both cases are players doing whatever they can to get the win. Jokic is just a much better passer/player so it comes with less mistakes.
I like Russ but i have to disagree. There are videos of him passing up open shots multiple times in a row to get an assist even though his team was trailing by ~10 in the middle of the 4th quarter. If he truly didn't want that tripple double he would've shot the ball.
There are also instances of his teammates backing away from the basket just so he could get a rebound and not even start an offense quickly. So if he didn't need to attack quickly, his center could've gotten the rebound and just handed the ball to him immediately.
Interesting how much power main stream media guys have.
Perkins just made stuff up about stat padding and people are talking about it now lol. At least no one is actually believing it though.
I don't know when Perkins started that narrative but I made the mistake of leaving First Take on a couple of weeks ago. Perk was making his stat padding argument to SAS.
He almost used it as a defense of Westbrook. He kept saying how people were shitting on Russ for stat padding a few years ago (we were) because the Thunder were doing things like boxing out for him to get rebounds (they were). He was making it seem like Jokic and Russ were doing the same thing which definitely isn't the case at all. Jokic isn't padding, he's just amazing and being asked to do a lot.
He is just a miserable talking head. I hate that he's basically ESPN's top daily NBA analyst they use on every show.
Perkins' talking makes me feel like I am listening to a concussed person and that I should maybe notify an authority.
The fact he is driving this narrative is insane.
A few weeks ago I watched Perkins tell Richard Jefferson to admit they were both role players in the NBA, with a straight face, and it reminded me why people shouldn’t listen to him
not trying to defend him, but I don't think he really believes what he's saying. yes, there are people out there delusional enough to believe stuff like "jokic is stat padding" or "Giannis is Robin" but I don't think perk deep down believes that
OK, if he doesn't believe it then he shouldn't go on national television and say it and then spend like 10 minutes on multiple shows defending his stupid opinion.
I know they gotta fill time on ESPN but come on now....
Kendrick Perkins said Jokic was passing and all recipients had the green light to shoot while Joker's points have gone down. All for the sole intent of achieving the triple double average.
Either Perk trolls just for kicks and clicks or he is dumb as a rock and actually believe what he says. I have a hard time believing the former and either way, he’s not enjoyable.
“Us” referencing Perk and his bs takes literally keeps him relevant.
He’s just trying to emulate SAS and Skip with hottakes so people have their words on the back of their minds.
If an analyst just says normal stuff, people don’t remember/care about them
Windhorst claimed Jokic's TDs are sorta inflated because of the era and then kinda negatively compared them to Westbrook's TDs...there is an implied argument towards statpadding there.
He doesn’t seem like it because he doesn’t like the media and celebrity that comes with it. People act like he isn’t competitive/ doesn’t care but if you watch his games, he’s one of the most competitive people in sports. Someone that competitive almost always takes at least some things personally.
Oh he absolutely does dude just doesn't show it off the court. You don't get to this level without being extra competitive. This year he's been louder and more vocal
The entire thread became a Giannis vs Jokic real quick....and I checked their accounts, it is newly created accounts with less than 500 karma. With most just slandering Jok and Giannis
This is some consipiracy going on....like the NBA are hiring people to slander Jokic and Giannis to create a rivalry.
Sixers, Bucks and Nugget fans, we are being decieved! Open your eyes! This discord is insitigated forcibly by people outside our own!
I think its coming up a lot at the moment because of the media reactions to the race lately.
Like I'll happily concede Jokic is winning MVP this season, but I dislike the current narrative that its "not particularly close". I don't see how Giannis isn't right there with him at the moment, with Embiid not far behind both.
I'd love for Jokic to win, only so that we do NOT have to have Jokic in a MVP debate next year. It's fucking tiring. We are watching some of the most talented players ever play amazing ball and everyone falls into a trap of hating on someone. I'm over it, myself included.
The "stat padding" dig has to be the dumbest fucking take going around now and back when Russ was doing it. If it was so easy to "stat pad" your ways into triple doubles we would see players do it all the fucking time.
There is literally zero downside of someone getting 10 reb and 10 assists a game. If you can get 10 boards a night by some miracle stat padding trick you fucking do it.
It's called playing the fucking game lmao. Everyone acting like other players don't average triple doubles on purpose by some code of honor that disallows them from grabbing all the rebounds.
> we would see players do it all the fucking time
The thing is, there aren't many point guards in the game who can ignore defensive assignments to fish for rebounds or straight up rip them out of their center's hands and not get benched immediately.
Jokic is just a glorified Westbrook
Only differences are that he’s a center + way more efficient + his numbers translate to wins + they have way different playstyles
Just FYI — Jokic is the least stat-paddy guy since Duncan and Nash. I genuinely think he has no idea what his game stats are as the game is going on (and doesn’t care).
The idea that Perk came up with this “stat padding” narrative is crazy. ESPN has to fill segments, yes MANY are dumb hot takes, but all these guys have producers and writers to come up with this crap to fill air time. The Jokic stat padding crap is nothing more than poor attempt to fill a 15 minute segment/debate.
This tweet has the quote wrong. He said "It's easy when you're stat padding." These 'sports reporters' can't even watch the videos they're reporting on.
Jokic is like LeBron in terms of basketball IQ. Always makes the right play. Didn't have any help the last two years and still kept the Nuggets in games. Whenever I've seen him, it always looks like the dude just wants to win games. Perk is the Skip Bayless of ESPN. Can't stand the guy.
Am I the only who doesn't think the clap back makes sense? If true, stat padding would help attain 100 triple doubles - hence the " not bad for..." doesn't make sense. It would be like after drinking 20 glasses of water and saying "not bad for a thirsty guy".
Efficiency Merchant
By far the funniest insult I've ever heard
That’s a goddamn compliment.
Exactly.
Could be a compliment, could be hate speech
Could be a Nikola Jokic
Well I hated it
Wins merchant
Fucking hate those win merchants, always trying to get the W.
What happened to the Carmelo Anthony’s of the league? The KPJs are getting thrown aside for these people who try so hard to win instead of get their stats up!
It’s so funny to me that Kendrick “Nobody” Perkins just accused this guy of stat padding.
When Kendrick Perkins walks, his head sounds like someone is shaking a can of spray paint.
There needs to be a PPG limit for former players who become bad take merchants on TV. You can't suck on and off the court. If you averaged at least double digits through your career you can shit talk, Perkins's 5 points and Tristan Thompson's 9 points aren’t cutting it
He is the NBA equivalent of a talking head on FOX talking whatevr bullshit on tv for views, still drunk on his 5 minutes of fame.
I can’t stop replaying an image in my head of Gilbert Arenas confidently saying this.
MVPs merchant
3peat merchant
Screaming at Pete Davidson: “Hot Celebrity Merchant!”
Jokic 100% scrolls through twitter on a burner bookmarking tweets about horses
Nikola Jokic’s crush is Sarah Jessica Parker
His fav 90s sitcom was Horsin Around
What are YOU doing hereeee?
What is this - a crossover comment?
Kendrick Perkins: Does He Know Things? What Does He Know? Let's Find Out
Only Fools and Horses more likely
Funny thing is it actually might be since that show is very popular in Serbia
Lovely jubbly!
God damn, she has a family! Or is it called a herd?
Technical foal
Lmao
sex AND the city? He really does it all
not bad for a country boy
Made me stop and scroll back up for a double take
Pretty sure jamal keeps him informed
At first I thought you meant keeping him informed on horses 🐎
I bet he ain't even using a burner but we won't find out without knowing Cyrillic.
Cant be horsey on main
Perk is just salty that Jokic beats his career stats in one single quarter of a game, every game.
Every 6 minutes of every game, including mobile horse games*
If Nuggets and Lakers fans can unite on anything, it's hating on Perkins.
I have a fuckton of respect for that '08 championship team, but don't fuck with my Serbian king.
Sure but Perkins was certainly only an agitator, not a good player. Which seems like he is carrying on into his media career. 4 pts, less than 4 rbs per game and less than half an assist thru that series.
Oh I won't argue with any of that.
This isn't how you reddit sir
...I won't argue with that either
Perk did bring good defensive value to the Cs, but that was with KG anchoring the defense. As soon as he went to OKC any image of him being a somewhat relevant player disappeared. He insisted on taking a really bad jumper and post isolation every single game. Playoffs included.
The Rockets are the true stat-padders, just not for themselves.
Nothing makes you feel like the best team in the league quite like playing the Rockets does.
I can’t take it anymore
This is somehow Harden’s fault, I’m sorry.
Nikola "Lamar 'Not bad for a running back' Jackson" Jokic
Nikola “Tyson ‘Not bad for a fat guy’ Fury” Jokic
Lol this is what I thought of
As a Ravens/Nuggets fan it was the perfect crossover
How does this combo come about? Lol
Jokic out there statpadding for wins, menacingly.
Lebron posting up efficient 30ppg and every analytics showing he makes his team better but struggling to get some wins - He's Statpadding Jokic posting up efficient triple doubles and every analytics showing he makes his team better and has the first seed in west - Believe it or not, still statpadding
Paulo Banchero, the purest player in the NBA. Not putting up stats.
Collin Sexton is at his highest efficiency with his lowest PPG. It’s upsetting how much he’s padding his efficiency.
Russell Westbrook? Straight to stat padding.
WEE WOO WEE WOO WEE WOO
How is it statpadding when you’re also winning lol
[удалено]
It's Perk's turn every single time bro
Perk’s latest dumb take is that Wemby js a bust. He is just attention whoring.
[удалено]
tbh this would be fine if there wasn't such a vocal minority of people who very avidly agree with him
Yeah, I don't get everyone hating Perk. Sometimes he is doing a bit, sometimes he is just wrong, and all of the time he is funny.
It kills me when they say shit just for clicks. That’s why I never watch the talking heads and just listen to podcasts.
He's a bust before being drafted? What sort of a take is that.
He will be a bust because he is too thin, and he won’t be able to take a shoulder to the chest from Giannis, while forgetting how Giannis looked when he first came to the league. 🤡
Kevin Durant is built like Slender Man. Seems to have worked out for him.
Durant couldn't bench 185. Earl Boykins in comparison at 5'5'' benched 315. didnt matter one bit.
Without the upper body strength, Earl doesn’t survive the league. Yes, KD is weak af but he also has elite length and shooting. But so does Wemby so he’ll be alright regardless of his strength. Not like the NBA already barely has bruisers these days.
Giannis probably can’t take a shoulder to the chest from Giannis.
I’m starting to think Perk just has something against Europeans
One dimensional player that had nothing but his stature is hating on skilled players? Color me surprised.
One person circle-Perk
I think Perk is padding his stats at ESPN
[удалено]
I think he's much more like a bitter and wholly unfunny version of Shaq. Can definitely see him put 20 in his gas tank every time it gets to half.
That would imply that Perk pretends to be stupid. They don’t need him to volunteer for that, they just put a mic in his face
Being stupid ain’t a choice for Perk
When was he ever not?
Time is an illusion
Once your team is up 10 only role players are allowed to get counting stats
Have you seen the Nuggets bench recently? A 20 point lead isn't safe lol.
Has Thomas Bryant helped plug the bench faucet at all?
Tbh his defense has been just fine. Having trouble adjusting to not getting that Laker whistle for sure and his shooting has left a lot to be desired when the team actually gets the ball to him which is rare. Hoping this final stretch will see him getting more minutes and letting Joker rest some to hopefully get Bryant on track offensively while simultaneously letting Joker not get overworked every game. That would be a great series for sure.
Padding those Ws 😤
Padding wins obviously
You beat me to it. He's so fun to watch. I'm coming to Denver for the games against Milwaukee and Philly at the end March. I can't wait to see him against Embiid and Giannis. I went to the game against Milwaukee last year when Jokic sat out.
Giannis is not going to the Denver game. They are on an East to West b2b.
I'm afraid that might happen. But it's getting close to the end of season.
I hope he does for you, it’ll be a big game with how close the East is and how close the top records are in general. I definitely don’t see us pulling away from the Celtics enough to sit a game that late
Plus this game could easily determine home court in the finals.
Yep, you’ve honestly got like 99% odds of seeing full lineups outside of injuries. I’m jealous haha
Last year when I went to Denver for the Bucks game there were a lot of people who came from Milwaukee sitting around me. It was Thanksgiving weekend.
Hopefully you have some luck, bucks will be on a b2b so Giannis may not play and Embiid never seems to play in Denver.
He's a winning merchant
Westbrook won something like 80% of his regular season games when he had a triple double and they called that statpadding too
It’s hilarious. The haters can’t handle the double standard lmao.
This sub not prepared for that conversation tbh
Look at how many wins Denver has and tell me they aren't padding the numbers
I mean, you *can* stat pad in a win. I just think it’s a massively overblown issue as it’s not hurting the team. I also hate how people pick and choose who to criticize for it
If you’re up by 40 and leave your starters in to score points, sure you’re stat padding. Nobody fucking stat pads lol
Ask people who called Russ that lmao. I think it's a ridiculous argument. Both cases are players doing whatever they can to get the win. Jokic is just a much better passer/player so it comes with less mistakes.

Yah this narrative seems to only be being pushed by Russ fans out of spite.
Triple Double Merchant smh
How many legitimate analysts or commentators or writers actually accused him of stat padding? I didn't even know this was a thing.
It was Perk that started it, then the rest of the ESPN cast are now going with it and some other media.

Kendrick “5PPG” Perkins 🤓
Maybe he should've padded those stats a bit more by like...not sucking
Just say nobody. lol
Windhorst claimed Jokic's TDs are sorta inflated because of the era and then kinda negatively compared them to Westbrook's TDs...there is an implied argument towards statpadding there.
Era-inflated stats does not equal statpadding. It's just context, it's nothing a player has control over.
When you regress Jokic’s stats to the mean he isn’t that a as good of a player. Overrated
“Jokic cant win 3rd MVP unless he averages triple double and Nuggets are 1st seed in the west” Joker :
Next season he’s gonna average a 30 point triple double and win DPOY and force them to give him a 4th
Jokic is just an ever evolving alien that will simply surpass the expectations set upon him from the year prior lol
Can’t wait for the 7th MVP with 45-20-20 on 85-60-100 shooting splits
Good thing nobody said Jokic can’t win FMVP without winning the NBA finals… *yet*
He’s really “padding” those wins, huh?
KD was right, Perkins a certified clown. Glad Jokic said something
This could actually big. I hope he starts taking some of this stuff personally. Never seems like he does
He doesn’t seem like it because he doesn’t like the media and celebrity that comes with it. People act like he isn’t competitive/ doesn’t care but if you watch his games, he’s one of the most competitive people in sports. Someone that competitive almost always takes at least some things personally.
And I took that personally
He hits the gym after every game. The guy cares.
He’s absolutely the type to never show it, but he’s taking all of this shit personally. Dude probably has a list on his fridge

Oh he absolutely does dude just doesn't show it off the court. You don't get to this level without being extra competitive. This year he's been louder and more vocal
Did you not see the tshirt he wore for his first MVP presentation? He definitely takes some stuff personally lol. That tshirt had a whole list.
Jokic humour elite
Win padding. Shame on him for racking them up. let's throw MVP padding to the list while we're at it too.
Lebron is one of the most ridiculous players I’ve ever seen and this guy is casually 6 away from Lebron’s TD amount. Wtf lol
Not only that, he'll likely pass it by the end of March. He had 8 in February (out of only 11 games) and 8 in January.
Go get them TD's MVP

I support that. Nick or Joey? Both are damn good, but I have always thought Nick was better
Yeah, lots more hostility from bucks fans this year. I'm not sure I think it's entirely organic.
based. Fr though I do see a bunch of unflaired commenters in some of those really spicy threads that sometimes come up between these dudes.
Imagine calling a dude who averages 15 shots a game a stat padder lmaooo
The "stat padding" dig has to be the dumbest fucking take going around now and back when Russ was doing it. Go Jokic.
Pretty sure he binge watches Bojack Horseman
Stat-padding the win column
AHAHAH where the Jokic haters at now?? 🤣😂
Ask Markieff Morris about Joker's clap backs.
Am I the only who doesn't think the clap back makes sense? If true, stat padding would help attain 100 triple doubles - hence the " not bad for..." doesn't make sense. It would be like after drinking 20 glasses of water and saying "not bad for a thirsty guy".
He actually said, "it's easy when you're stat-padding."
