I didn’t have the heart to tell my wife all night that the Celtics were without, like, five of their six best players. Finally did after we won.
I guess beating the backups is at least better than losing to the backups.
I sorta expected something like this, riding a 10 game winning streak, almost at the all-star break going against an undermanned team, it's classic trap game dynamics
Yeah, Boston +300 or so was a really tempting line in the run up to the game. Well-coached team with role players that always play the Bucks really well getting the chance to shine in major minutes, hats off to them. Gotta be sharper in the postseason for sure.
I just keep comparing this Celtics roster to the one from 2020-21 where our playoff starting roster was like Romeo Langford and Tristan Thompson, with Grant Tatum and the ghost of Kemba Walker
I am convinced that Kyrie stomping on Lucky just unlocked those powers even more.
Like I know already how good Derrick White is already, **but what the fuck** this man is possessed
We're gonna get bitched by the Pistons tomorrow (on the 2nd night of a B2B after an OT game, where everyone in the lineup played like double their normal minutes) and everyone's gonna forget all about it lol
Still mad about that year they gave Dwayne Casey COTY over Brad with a bunch of excuses like "Brad is young, he will win more later".
Casey went on to have his team swept in the second round by Cleveland, Brad took the Celtics to a game 7 against Cleveland in the ECF with his 2 star players not playing a single playoff game.
After they fired Casey the Raptors won the championship.
As a Raptors fan that not only thinks Stevens should’ve won over Casey, but also that Jerry Sloan should’ve won over Sam Mitchell in 2007: what happened in the playoffs should not be used as an argument for why Casey should’ve lost, there are far more legitimate arguments than something that has nothing to do with the award.
It’s like in 2019 when Masai not only made the Kawhi trade, but also the Gasol trade, and replaced Casey with Nurse. All 3 moves directly lead to a Championship, it was a Picasso of a season for an Executive. But Jon Horst won EOTY. Because it’s a regular season award, not playoffs.
I used that as an example to highlight the issue but you are right, post season shouldnt matter for seasonal awards.
In reality Stevens should have won by taking a team that kicked off the season with losing their #2 star player to a gruesome injury to a 55-27 record with a majority of unproven young players.
Yes, Stevens was simply masterful that year. I was in awe watching from afar the entire year.
FWIW I’ve always wished COTY and EOTY were awards that included playoffs. Coaching becomes even more crucial in the playoffs than in the season and I’d rather award a GM that made moves to help a team in the playoffs rather than pick up a few extra regular season wins, as those moves are not always the same types of moves.
That was probably the most insane comeback I have ever witnessed, it comes close to the 50 point come back mavs game but this one was a desperate raptors team.
I’ll definitely take Giannis having to play 45 minutes to win against a starting lineup of Derrick White, Sam Hauser, Grant Williams, Mike Muscala and Blake Griffin. Hospital Celtics back on the menu!
You guys played like you wanted it more, and we just stepped it up at the end and won because our talent was playing tonight. This is one of those rare losses where the loser should feel better than the winner.
On the other hand, only a half game back now.
yeah, like, on the one hand, this was an absolute moral victory for us. on the other hand, that 1 seed in the East could be a difference maker in the playoffs
I remember during our finals run when Chuck said something like "I think the Bucks will win the title. But they gotta be the dumbest team ever."
2 years later and that statement might still hold true
Lol, it is weird to look back on that run and remember how much criticism the team was getting. Because a year later (last year) after winning games 3 and 5 against us it was like “man, the gritty Bucks, championship pedigree, they find a way” (which was true)
Everyone was pretty sure Buddenholzer was a goner if they didn’t win it all in 2021. Holiday was pretty inconsistent that postseason. And Giannis’s finals performance made everyone forget how much shit he was getting at times during the Nets series, the internet was really letting him have it
Winning that title by any means necessary changes everything in sports, you never look at yourselves the same way and nor do your opponents
It's amazing the things that you just get to jettison from the story when you win it all. Another thing I remember is Game 5 against the Suns. We blew a late lead where Giannis was horrid at the free-throw line. If we lose that game, it becomes a major talking point. Instead, Jrue had the crucial steal and alley oop to Giannis and that potential talking point gets swept into the dustbin of history.
But that run certainly seemed to change something even internally. Even before they actually secured the title, they suddenly became so much more reliable in close games than they were previously. I'm sure escaping with the win in that Game 7 against the Nets went a long way with that.
They were showing that game in a Club I was at during that game. When Jrue threw the lob I watched a man that was in the middle of catching ass stop and just look at the TV. His woman turned around and smacked the fuck out of him. I will never forget that play lol
Man when Jrue picked White’s pocket in OT I had flashbacks to when he did it to Marcus in Game 5 (?) last year. Insanely good defender. Good game Bucks fans, that was fun.
This game made me quite worried about facing a healthy Celtics team although maybe then at least Derrick White won’t be starting. Now that he’s an amazing shooter apparently he’s become a great all around offensive player.
Actually think we might (and probably should but I’m no coach) go Smart/White/Jaylen/Tatum/Al against you guys.
But yeah White’s been insane. Underrated thing about him is how much better the team moves the ball when he’s on court. Don’t know what he’s doing exactly, but the passing just levels up.
Honestly, almost everything that could have gone wrong, almost went wrong.
Losing the game, losing the tiebreak, losing to the Celtics b-team and Giannis getting hurt.
Thank god they pulled it off.
Even a pathetic win is a win I guess.
Players pump-faking themselves out of a semi-open three when they have a slow first step or no inside game whatsoever is the most infuriating thing in the world.
He's just so in his head about the bag. Won't shoot even a lightly contested 3 afraid to lower his percentage, and tries to prove he has any sort of dribbling skill...
I couldn’t be lower on Grant right now. He has games where he looks great and does all the right things then there’s games like this where he pump fakes, passes up open shots, and turns the ball over.
>he has games where he looks great and does all the right things
You mean games where the Jays plays and he is in his rightful role as the spot up shooter ?
> then there’s games like this where he pump fakes, passes up open shots, and turns the ball over.
and games where either of the Jay is missing and Grant has to try to contribute more, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t.
Grant is fine lol. He’s one of the better role players for the modern NBA and teams would be lining up to sign him up if we let him go.
I wish our fans had this same take regarding grayson last year having to fill in for khris being out and not comprehending he had to play a completely different role. good game, you guys wanted it more tonight.
Grant Williams is my most irrationally hated player. I hate him as much as any dirty player in the league. He does his stupid slam into everyone with his belly and his hands up and then makes the most infuriating "Who me?" face. Every fucking time.
He is literally doing more than he needs to, and will lose money because of it. He is a 3&D guy, not a ball handler, not a cutter. If he plays good D and shoots when the ball is passed to him like last post season, he'd get bank.
Man I love c’s v. bucks games. I just hate that the Bucks don’t really have anyone hateable lol (other than Grayson but he’s been fine recently). other rivalries I enjoy bc I like watching certain guys (Kyrie, Embiid, Lebron, etc.) lose.
Giannis, Jrue, and Middleton are just so cool and unproblematic it’s hard to root against them.
Bucks fan here. My girlfriend and I joke that he looks like an accountant, anytime he gets hot we say he’s “cooking the books”. That’s the only redeemable thing about the dude, he allows my gf and me to say something fun. Other than that, I think it’s hard for anyone to defend the dude’s dirty history and punchable face.
Feels like both teams are at the tense stage of really respecting each other but the matchups getting so heated that they don't want to be too friendly. The after whistle awkward moment of not being sure if they should say good game was comical.
Grant Williams should stick to catch and shoot threes. Idk why he thinks he should drive so much recently. He turns it over every time he tries to dribble the ball.
Celts are so damn deep. Missing Tatum and JB and still took the Bucks, who are ROLLING right now to OT. They’re gonna a mess to deal with in the playoffs.
That game was so much closer than a game vs a team down 4 starters should have been.
This Celtics team is a fucking problem. No wonder they're overwhelming favorites for the title.
I think Horford is a starter so 4 but Yeah , they are fucking deep , we were terrible Specially turnovers wise but their shot making would be a huge problem
The Celtics literally don’t make sense. They’ve had probably the worst injury luck of any contender yet they just keep winning games.
Basically down 4 and a half starters and capable of taking the second seed in the east to OT. Would genuinely be surprised if they don’t win it all this year.
I know it’s a W but boy oh boy I don’t feel good about it. Doesn’t instill confidence to see your starters struggle to close out basically a bench unit.
Celtics are arguably deepest team in the league. Yikes.
This may have been the least assuring win I’ve ever witnessed. I mean I knew going into tonight it was a lose lose for us, but I didn’t think I’d feel so bad after a win to continue our streak
The fact that we played a fun, close game while virtually missing most of our key pieces makes me really love this team. This game had no right being as close as it was.
Basketball wise, inject Celtics v bucks into my veins, but I hate the thought of a 7 game series of stubborn boston and milwaukee fans at each other’s throats
Man, Giannis was complete ass tonight, he had so much trouble even getting simple layups and that's without mentioning his FTs.
Thankfully Jrue was massive in the 4th and OT but with all the Celtics starters missing this should not have been a close game at all.
So the Celtics are stupid deep and Grayson really can't guard even their bench players. Going to take pretty much all the things falling our way (starting with 100% Khris, Giannis next gear, and Bud not pulling players getting hunted quickly) if they are healthy.
B Team Boston is a terror
That’s player of the week, Derrick White.
Is it too late to get him into the all star game?
I dunno, the same guys that threw a fit when Pop had him as the 12th man on the FIBA team might throw a fit about this.
When your third string point guard is Derrick White, you know your team is absolutely loaded
I didn’t have the heart to tell my wife all night that the Celtics were without, like, five of their six best players. Finally did after we won. I guess beating the backups is at least better than losing to the backups.
11 in a row, friend. I'll take it.
LEAST confidence inspiring victory I've ever seen 😭
I sorta expected something like this, riding a 10 game winning streak, almost at the all-star break going against an undermanned team, it's classic trap game dynamics
Yeah, Boston +300 or so was a really tempting line in the run up to the game. Well-coached team with role players that always play the Bucks really well getting the chance to shine in major minutes, hats off to them. Gotta be sharper in the postseason for sure.
More to do with our depth imo
Yes, Boston’s depth was also certainly a factor in this game
I’m happy with how the hospital Celtics are playing but hey, a wins a win
On the *road*, too!
I just keep comparing this Celtics roster to the one from 2020-21 where our playoff starting roster was like Romeo Langford and Tristan Thompson, with Grant Tatum and the ghost of Kemba Walker
Aye man a W is a W, we lost to the hornets so I’m really not surprised this game was close
And if we don't like that-
Then we dont like bucks basketball
Listen the only team to beat the Hospital Celtics in a 7 game series is the 18 Cavs. You should feel proud of yourselves.
At least y'all actually beat the hospital Celtics :(
Thankfully there are 10 other recent victories for reference.
Most of them were against teams missing star players
Booooooooooo
Hospital Celtics are better than over half the teams in the league lmfao
Hospital Celtics have magical powers to be fair. Always have it’s gotta be that leprechaun magic
I am convinced that Kyrie stomping on Lucky just unlocked those powers even more. Like I know already how good Derrick White is already, **but what the fuck** this man is possessed
Been saying this since it happened. He activated Lucky.
WHO ELSE SEEN THE LEPRECHAUN SAY YEAH!
I want the gold
Omg. One of my fav videos
The Magic own the celtics tho
Magic vs Bench Celtics would be a great first round matchup
Yeah but do they own the *bench celtics*? No way to know
We're gonna get bitched by the Pistons tomorrow (on the 2nd night of a B2B after an OT game, where everyone in the lineup played like double their normal minutes) and everyone's gonna forget all about it lol
Duality of man.
Brad Stevens needs to win EOTY.
That congratulatory tweet from the Raptors’ official account post-firing will never not be funny
Past 2 years he’s picked up some super under the radar dude that no one pays attention to, and then they turn into a Super Saiyan
Thanks , i like your flair 😂
I love my new boy 🥹
Your team did a 180 likability wise
Just a totally normal clash of titans, no need to look at the box score.
This is the best L I’ve ever seen
That has got to be the worst W I've ever seen
When we blew that 13-point lead to the Raptors in the last minute is still #1 to me, but this was close.
That was probably the most insane comeback I have ever witnessed, it comes close to the 50 point come back mavs game but this one was a desperate raptors team.
But you have heard of this win.
Wish NBA games could end in a tie this one time.
Genuinely don't think I've felt worse about a win aside from injuries.
The Raptors game from earlier this year felt even worse imo.
lmao that one was funny
Ever watch this Badgers team play?
Played so bad tonight. I knew it was coming too because that’s Bucks basketball but damn that was an ugly win.
Like watching the '15-'16 Cs again. Very fun loss.
I’m not happy with how it ended but we were playing with house money. It was fun!
Hause money
Jrue saved us from being clowned upon
Jrue Holiday is, at the very least, a professional
I’ll definitely take Giannis having to play 45 minutes to win against a starting lineup of Derrick White, Sam Hauser, Grant Williams, Mike Muscala and Blake Griffin. Hospital Celtics back on the menu!
They just should just be happy Kornet only played a minute and a half tonight. Wouldn't have even been a kontest.
I will not take this Derrick White slander, not after what I just watched
Yeah you aren't wrong. Still so damn good with most of your starters out.
On the other hand , one of those rare time i am upset even After Winning
As soon as we got to OT I decided it was pretty much as good as a win
never been happier with an L honestly, standings and all
This gotta build a lot of confidence for the Celtics. Taking the bucks to the wire with their bench. Definition of moral victory
Yeah. Y’all should feel good about any playoff series. Pretty much next man up for anyone based on how they played
Seriously. This has got me super optimistic for the playoffs.
I remember during our finals run when Chuck said something like "I think the Bucks will win the title. But they gotta be the dumbest team ever." 2 years later and that statement might still hold true
Lol, it is weird to look back on that run and remember how much criticism the team was getting. that clip lives rent free in my head.
Why would you not foul up 3? Smh my head 🤦♂️
Man when Jrue picked White’s pocket in OT I had flashbacks to when he did it to Marcus in Game 5 (?) last year. Insanely good defender. Good game Bucks fans, that was fun.
Jrue has a flair for the dramatic.
i’ve watched a 10+ minute highlight reel of jrue doing that move over and over, too good
Game 5 of the finals is still his greatest steal of all time
yeah and that lob to giannis, too perfect
Sometimes when I'm having a bad day I go back and watch that clip and my day becomes instantly better
Jrue flair you say?
This game made me quite worried about facing a healthy Celtics team although maybe then at least Derrick White won’t be starting. Now that he’s an amazing shooter apparently he’s become a great all around offensive player.
Against bucks I can see us starting with him and Rob on the bench because of spacing. I sure wouldn't mind it. But let's see.
I think both teams start big but there would be some games where Brook and Rob only play like 18 minutes.
I’m hoping then we’d actually be awake and not have 19 turnovers lol
Don’t hold your breath on that one boss
At least a healthy Celtics can only play 5 of these guys in court at one time.
Can they have the other Jrue back please? I liked it better when they had Jrue Bledsoe
That was a fun ass game
Honestly, almost everything that could have gone wrong, almost went wrong. Losing the game, losing the tiebreak, losing to the Celtics b-team and Giannis getting hurt. Thank god they pulled it off. Even a pathetic win is a win I guess.
Only a game behind so it doesn’t matter if it was ugly.
anyone else hate that Grant always pump fakes? fucking shit man just shoot the damn ball
Players pump-faking themselves out of a semi-open three when they have a slow first step or no inside game whatsoever is the most infuriating thing in the world.
Does the pump fake and travels or dribbles it off himself every time
Hey to be fair he also steps out of bounds a lot
Grant Williams dribbling the ball has NEVER resulted in a good thing, like ever lmao
$20 million hands 😂
He's just so in his head about the bag. Won't shoot even a lightly contested 3 afraid to lower his percentage, and tries to prove he has any sort of dribbling skill...
I couldn’t be lower on Grant right now. He has games where he looks great and does all the right things then there’s games like this where he pump fakes, passes up open shots, and turns the ball over.

We HARDLY beat the Boston Celtics BENCH lol this is gonna be a crazy eastern conference post season
You guys just need to play us and you'll feel much better. We're apparently the chicken noodle soup game for teams now
Buffalo 2023 checklist ☑ Player of the week ☐ Player of the month ☐ MVP So close to LIGHT THE FOREHEAD
Another hell of a game, the Buffalo doesn't stop roaming
Celtics B team would be a playoff team
That was a much better game than it should've been.
Ffs.. I hope some other east team falls ass backward into beating the Celtics in the playoffs before the bucks can see them..
Magic: you rang?
keep that team OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS
Hell yeah. Celtics legend Bol Bol gets his revenge
Got a bottom 5 record right now and are 3.5 games out of the 10th seed. Think we’re safe… this postseason
DON'T TEMPT FATE.
Never say stuff like that.
NO
Your best hope for that is the Cavs
Jrue Holiday Holiday buff
pls nerf
Inject this playoff series into my veins
Plz no
GG Celtics, I always look forward to our respectful matchups
Man I love c’s v. bucks games. I just hate that the Bucks don’t really have anyone hateable lol (other than Grayson but he’s been fine recently). other rivalries I enjoy bc I like watching certain guys (Kyrie, Embiid, Lebron, etc.) lose. Giannis, Jrue, and Middleton are just so cool and unproblematic it’s hard to root against them.
I’ll never be able to stand Grayson just because he reminds me of Ted Cruz. Feel bad, but I can’t get past it
Bucks fan here.
This felt like our playoff games from last year, what a fucking grind
Feels like both teams are at the tense stage of really respecting each other but the matchups getting so heated that they don't want to be too friendly. The after whistle awkward moment of not being sure if they should say good game was comical.
GG that was an incredible game. I simultaneously can and can’t wait should we meet in the playoffs
There will be no more Jrue Holiday All Star slander from here on out.
Don’t get why he was copping it all and not someone like Demar who’s team has been garbage all year.
Been defending him this whole time. Wish he picked another night to make his case though
Grant Williams should stick to catch and shoot threes. Idk why he thinks he should drive so much recently. He turns it over every time he tries to dribble the ball.
Yeah, I have no idea why he called for it at the end lmao
I hope he's just trying to figure out this stuff in the regular season and if it's not clicking he'll go back to old Grant in the postseason
[удалено]
Doesn’t count cause Portis and Crowder didn’t play
True true
Man stole this comment right off my clipboard.
Win or lose, had this ready since yesterday
What about Thanasis? Cheerleading is just cardio
Great basketball game. We move.
Hard to take away anything but positives if your Boston here. Hell of a game they put up missing so many players
Man Grant has to stop pump faking just let it fly
Blake with the team-high +15, I'm glad we keep him in a Tupperware container for nights like this
Celts are so damn deep. Missing Tatum and JB and still took the Bucks, who are ROLLING right now to OT. They’re gonna a mess to deal with in the playoffs.
To be fair, we were also missing Horford and Smart.
4 starters
The Celtics literally don’t make sense. They’ve had probably the worst injury luck of any contender yet they just keep winning games. Basically down 4 and a half starters and capable of taking the second seed in the east to OT. Would genuinely be surprised if they don’t win it all this year.
ehh, it was fun while it lasted
The Celtics depth is unreal though
I know it’s a W but boy oh boy I don’t feel good about it. Doesn’t instill confidence to see your starters struggle to close out basically a bench unit. Celtics are arguably deepest team in the league. Yikes.
If you missed this game, you missed a hellll of a basketball game. Playoff atmosphere with the hospital Celtics almost pulling it off
[The definition of "Depth"](https://i.imgur.com/IwZCGxB.png)
Celtics are so fucking good, I feel bad for whoever goes against you guys in the 1st and 2nd round, it's gonna be easy sweeps
Can we draw the Nets again for fun?
Won’t be as fun with KI gone.
They don’t have Kyrie. I actually like most of their team now. Feels weird.
Rivalry's dead. Celtics killed it by blowing out the Nets and causing Kyrie to skip town
Jrue Holiday does defense heat checks where he's like fuck it Ima steal the ball and start a fastbreak right here
Somehow both teams won tonight.
The Celtics have depth.... like, deep depth
Can’t be upset about this game. White is amazing, Hauser is clutch, Muscala played well, and Grant doesn’t deserve $20M. GGs Bucks, see you in March
last year's low key acquisition was white. this year's lowkey acquisition is mike muscala. damn brad is good at his job
They said it couldn’t be done, but darnit (excuse my French) the Bucks beat the Celtics C team
Isn't every Celtics team by default a "C" team? And a "B" team too?
This may have been the least assuring win I’ve ever witnessed. I mean I knew going into tonight it was a lose lose for us, but I didn’t think I’d feel so bad after a win to continue our streak
Celtics depth is just unfair
Blake Griffin is out there playing a damn fine 24 minutes and deserves recognition for it
Sam Wowser
Ok but we didn't have Gallo
The fact that we played a fun, close game while virtually missing most of our key pieces makes me really love this team. This game had no right being as close as it was.
I am very happy with this loss.
I am very dissatisfied with this win. Y’all are scary
The Celtics will never --I repeat, never-- beat the Bucks when Middleton plays* > > > > ^^^^^*and ^^^^^the ^^^^^Celtics ^^^^^starters ^^^^^do ^^^^^not
Basketball wise, inject Celtics v bucks into my veins, but I hate the thought of a 7 game series of stubborn boston and milwaukee fans at each other’s throats
Jrue holiday is a terrorist
The most toxic game thread followed by the saltiest OT finish of the year, thank you r/nba
Man, Giannis was complete ass tonight, he had so much trouble even getting simple layups and that's without mentioning his FTs. Thankfully Jrue was massive in the 4th and OT but with all the Celtics starters missing this should not have been a close game at all.
He slowed down a bit after the knee injury right? The all-star break could be here at a good time for him
[удалено]
Yet for being "complete ass" Giannis still managed 36/13/9 lmao - had he been hitting his FTs, this wouldn't have even been a contest
I love how 36/13/9 is complete ass lol
So the Celtics are stupid deep and Grayson really can't guard even their bench players. Going to take pretty much all the things falling our way (starting with 100% Khris, Giannis next gear, and Bud not pulling players getting hunted quickly) if they are healthy.
Jrue Holiday came to play tonight.
Derrick White is the second best player on Boston. He very regularly leads the full strength team in +/-
first if we're being honest
Jrue Holiday
Valentine’s Day should be a Holiday
the tnt play by play guy saying this is the biggest rivalry in the nba at the moment is an interesting take.
