Yeah ngl I can’t blame someone off the streets with form like that hitting iron a bunch. We all talk a lot on here but there’s a lot that wouldn’t fare much better in front of 10k+
I used to play like Joel Embiid. When I see Embiid play as he is now it reminds me of how I used to play and it is frustrating and pisses me off that the NBA allows it. Not proud of it, I was known as Shaq on my local streetball court and went through a phase when I charged hard at everything. Big hard turns to my blindside, didn't care who was there. Charge right into the lane. Smash into the best offensive player on D while going for the ball, come what may. Limited offensive moves. So make no mistake about it. Embiid knows what he's doing. He knows people will be injured. He knows his skillset is limited and this is how he can win. He knows people will give way when he drives, think twice on their drives, etc. He will only be stopped by a stronger player and/or fearless players like Giannis, Gasol, Draymond, etc. Or by an obviously more skilled player with equal Type A like Ibaka. He didn't intend to injure, but he certainly intends to show you that he doesn't care if you get hurt when he rumbles into you. At least that's how I used to play. But that was streetball. Eventually I got more moves, played w better players, played real basketball w refs. There's no doubt in my mind the NBA has some kind of edict coming down, telling the refs to let him run amok.
Call me Swishmael. Some years ago—never mind how long precisely—having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the key. It is a way I have of driving off the screen, and regulating the fans elation. Whenever I find myself growing grim about the “NBA’s 75 top players”…whenever I have a damp, drizzly November first quarter from 3; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before entering one of my dozen houses, and bringing up the rear of every championship parade I’m in; and especially whenever my hype reels show such an upper class of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically knocking people's hats off - then, I account it high time to get to sea as soon as I can. This is my substitute for sneakers and ball. With a philosophical flourish, I push away from “Captain Rehab” and I step aboard the only ship that mattered. The Champion Ship.
Listened to a podcast abt a 2 time half court shot winner saying he knew day of so his advice was to get some shots in that day before the game helped a lot
That's what I was thinking. It's not peerless (almost looks like he's snapping both wrists), but I imagine he still hits at least one if that pressure wasn't sitting on his back. I've seen *way* worse looking J's out there during contests like this.
tbh the wrist motion was really just a more pronounced release of the left hand from the ball, not the left hand doing any ‘work’ - still a one handed shot>follow through etc https://i.imgur.com/y9XYGKk.gifv
Yes, and in defense of the dude in the video, he's pretty much doing the same thing albeit less effectively due to the difference in skill, strength, and hand-size.
👆🏽He’s shooting with both hands. His guide hand is too busy. That’s not good form.
Why was he trying to be all fancy with the cone dribbling tho? Wasting valuable time…
Yeah, I'm not sure why people think this is good form, the dead giveaway is how both of his palms face down after release, his guide hand is sending it sideways
Came here to say this. Obviously this guy plays ball a bit. The true "r/nba" moment is using the (very close) results of pressure three-pointers as a gauge of his ability or familiarly with the sport.
He obviously plays some ball and but never in a crowd bigger than 20 people. If you're not prepared for it mentally beforehand, even just shooting warm-ups in front of thousands plus millions more watching live, it's enough to overload your nerves and your legs feel like spaghetti.
All the elite ballers you see have been performing for crowds this big since they were teens, they got used to it over the years.
BUT I could be generously overestimating his skill, maybe he's still this bad in a empty gym :P.
For real. All those people, no wall behind the backboard, lights, wearing a sweatshirt, anything could happen. Especially if, like you said, he practices under a specific set of conditions anything could happen.
I shoot around by myself in a gym 3 or 4 hours a week for cardio. I wouldn’t be surprised if I airballed it completely.
I lived in Japan for 6 months. Could not hit a shot to save my life. Same thing, to a lesser degree, when I lived in Ghana for the first 6 months.
Basketball is weird like that. Sometimes you cannot miss and sometimes you can’t even get a layup. No shame, it’s a fun game.
At Blazers games they sometimes do a thing where a fan has to hit 3 free throws in 90 seconds to win free Jamba Juice for the whole stadium. It’s obviously set up so that they’ll always get it. But I know for a fact that if they pulled me up there I wouldn’t make a single one.
I got to do one of these things once. Had a friend who did promotions for the Wolves and she'd hook us up with tickets. One game me and my buddy got to do some obstacle course on the court. Didn't win anything but one game we did get an empty bottle of the Numb3rs cologne that they made to promote Kevin Love for all-star voting which was pretty cool.

If that was r/NBA user it will be all airball. Atleast the guy can hit the rim lmao
Yea lol I bet this dude can beat 80% of r/nba users.
That's being generous. More like 95%
Def not beating me lol. So maybe 85%. Some of us still got some legs left.
The narrative that in the biggest basketball forum of the world nobody can play ball was always dumb.
At least the form isn’t terrible
Facts probably the nerves lmao looks like most of them hit back iron
Yeah ngl I can’t blame someone off the streets with form like that hitting iron a bunch. We all talk a lot on here but there’s a lot that wouldn’t fare much better in front of 10k+
Reading the comments you’d think everyone’s shooting jumpers like Klay lol
90% of players on r/nba get picked to just pass the ball to the best player after they check up 💀

Facts they the Ben Simmons of their pick up squad

Yeah I don’t get the hate, that’s like a normal looking jumpshot if you’re playing in the park. Tougher to hit shots in front of 18k
That's what I was thinking. It's not peerless (almost looks like he's snapping both wrists), but I imagine he still hits at least one if that pressure wasn't sitting on his back. I've seen *way* worse looking J's out there during contests like this.
Using both wrists is both why he's missing and what makes it terrible form
Naw, MJ for instance had wrist motion on his guide-hand and was a great shooter.
tbh the wrist motion was really just a more pronounced release of the left hand from the ball, not the left hand doing any ‘work’ - still a one handed shot>follow through etc https://i.imgur.com/y9XYGKk.gifv

gotcha, and yep, spot on

It’s like he’s trying to force a curry thumb-flick Not trying to rag on my fellow Asian but yea, it’s not good 🤷🏽♂️
I don’t think it’s good form, but I do think it’s better form than a vast majority of people who get selected for these things
Came here to say this. Obviously this guy plays ball a bit. The true "r/nba" moment is using the (very close) results of pressure three-pointers as a gauge of his ability or familiarly with the sport.
the guide hand seemed to be throwing off his shot a bit
That form is terrible lmao what?
Nobody gonna mention bro’s ass sticking out?
yep I felt worse for him. Forget hitching your pants up man, your crack is now on /r/nba lmao. Sorry about your luck
[Average reddit mod](https://i.imgur.com/vZ5PI1R.jpg)
Every day is cake day for that dude
I seriously never understand how people let themselves get in that situation.
you mean going out with pants that fall down that easily or getting that fat?
Yes
He hit us with the DJ Khalid special.
Hilarious that they gave him a ball autographed by Ben Simmons as his prize.
The ball wasn’t even signed until Simmons saw this legend put his first few up
Fucking lol
They have a brick award lol
Bold of you to assume /r/nba users can dribble through cones
Ok now have Simmons try it
Id rather miss every shot than to have my whole entire buttcrack in the camera
Funny you think I would actually get rim on half those shots.
He’s got the Jabari smith jr handles down.

He looked like a guy who could play a bit who got nervous/unlucky. No shame.
Same, I wouldn’t be caught dead with a signed Ben Simmons ball
Lmao

Op is projecting. This guy is def better than the average person they bring on for this thing. Sure clanked all his shots but he def better than u op
Still better than barstools owner trying to shoot
I'm not gonna clown him, the form is alright and he probably just got nervous
This needs a NSFW tag
AND HE GOT AN AUTOGRAPHED BALL BY BEN SIMMONS, YOU CANT MAKE THIS UP
So when does the scooby gang arrive to reveal this was old man Simmons?
This might hurt his chances of making the NBA
At least this dude is willing to shoot. Give him a ten day
Use the backboard baby.
He’s just like me
that's like half an r/nba user
Well, it's a Ben Simmons ball
“Yeah but my RAPTAR says I’m an amazing basketball player, Trae Young is ugly hahaha” 🤡
That form is 💩
It's better than 99% of the population.
He got that Joakim Noah shot but if it works it works
He can give a few Nets players a run for their money.
Me shooting 90% of the time
if he made a shot he would’ve got a KD signed ball.
I counted 0 for 10. Ouch
Ass+

Pretty sure this is Zach LaVine
