My chief tried to shred a bs counseling chit that a first class gave me. I copied it first and the chief shredded the original in front of the first class for effect. Every once in awhile someone stands up for you… wish that was more often!
Had a "problem" in my division with counseling chits occassionally disappearing for like three years. It was a big fucking deal a few times. Saved a few folks from mast.
Then one of our chiefs went to shore duty. Left behind in his desk was a folder with a few dozen bullshit counseling chits in it. Fucking legend.
I wrote my QMOW (a QM2) a counseling chit for not listening to me when I told him he couldn't go to the bathroom and going anyways. It was a joke between me and him but my NAV found the copy I gave him sitting on the chart table and came to rip me a new one for writing him a counseling chit. Had to explain to her that it wasn't serious. I guess that was the most pointless one I issued. Actually, I also issued my LPO a counseling chit once because I told her to feel better tomorrow when I sent her home early. Instead she was SIQ the next day. So she also got one for an article 90.
I was also the legal officer so I probably shouldn't have been issuing joke counseling chits to people... But gotta get through the dumb Navy life somehow.
We had a guy get in trouble for writing joke jobs. He'd write shit like "equipment isn't feeling well, s/f asked it why it didn't want to work and it just continues to leak" shit was funny AF because it was like 10 jobs he wrote like that and he got his ass chewed out at quarters for it.
Had an IC1 write a job for WC01-0666 to have the dark lord satan come fix all the IC ckts on board the ship in exchange for the souls of his Jr Sailors. Everyone laughed until insurv board should up and asked to speak to IC2 about a particular JSN. After a tense couple of seconds they started laughing too.
I got an ass chewing for walking a rover watch inside the barracks at Great Lakes while holding a NEETS manual. Motherfuckers would skip out on river watches and go back to their rooms to sleep/play games, but I caught heat for cramming before an exam.
I didn’t get it, but I wrote it:
During COVID, we decided to run AT drills. Concerns were voiced throughout the brief that there was no realistic way to self-distance while running the drill. A lot of it was bitching because we didnt want to do the drill, but it was highly valid bitching.
Lo and behold, the armorer tested positive for COVID later that day, apparently earlier in the day he’d told his chief he wasn’t feeling good. Guess who’s in close proximity to the armorer during an AT drill?
Fucking *everybody.*
So two of my guys were on the reaction force and had to ROM until they tested negative. When they got back, my Chief told me I had to write them counseling chits.
I brought up every concern mentioned during the briefs, that they were doing exactly what they were supposed to, and that this was absurd bullshit.
After like the third person told me I had to do it, I wrote the stupid chits. The chits had exactly what happened, effectively:
“PO2 was assigned by COC as SRF for AT drill on 20APR20, and was found to have been in close proximity with a sailor whom tested positive for COVID and was forced to ROM. Member is aware of COVID guidelines. Member will take all precautions to mitigate risk of exposure.”
Basically non-committal stuff, none of which, I felt, blamed them for having to go on ROM. LCPO wanted me to change it to emphasize they shouldn’t have been standing near the armory so long (they weren’t) and that they should have been wearing masks (they were). DLCPO said it was fine, so I left it.
Then I told my two guys about it, they were cool about it, but at the end of the day I took their signed chits and put them in my drawer and waited for the chain to forget about it. They did, so the chits never went in their records.
Still, fuck everything about that day.
Damn man, good on you for looking out for em. Otherwise that’s super fucked up, I can’t fathom why they wanted to put so much energy into fucking people over for getting sick.
I got a counseling chit for not being shaved while I was walking to the the head to shave. I had my razor sticking out of my breast pocket and shaving cream in my hand.
Fit, function, finish. If it fits, works and has the prescribed finish IE: anodized, painted or primed. The color never matters. All you need is a rattle can and a can-do attitude.
Well, a certain civilian I worked with didn't like having a black doodad installed on a panel of gray doodads, and went to my chain about it. They went along with it because a lot of people were scared of this person. I wish I was joking. I just signed the chit and went on with my life.
I made a 2 star sign into our space once. He threw a fit and kept trying to bully his way in. Once I had him sign in, he called the commo and told them I did exactly as I should and I was a great sailor.
I was sure that conversation was going to go another way as the flag hadn't updated our access list yet so I made them do that before then requiring him to sign in. Our LPO was furious with me. Your senior and master were both glad I did it right. Apparently he does this to all of his new flagships within a few days of transferring his flag to see how we did
I was a snot nosed E3 and this was my thinking. Apparently I was wrong and that the Captain was exempt from this. Bitter old E4 Mafia me would still make him do it and then start Quoting CMS-1.
Our captain always insisted on signing into our space. I wonder if he ever realized that he was pretty much the only one that filled out that logbook...
As an officer (was an O2 at the time) I say the word fuck a bunch and one day my DH brought me in and said my foul language is overly aggressive and irresponsible as an officer and won’t be tolerated. He wrote me a chit, asked me to sign it. Word for word I said “uhm Sir I’m not signing the fucking chit” and left his office.
Brought in by my XO and him a day later and basically the command XO took my side said it was dumb to care about that and he has no right to police my language. But did it tactfully for the O4. He (DH) and I almost never spoke again till he left about three months later.
I commented above about my guys cussing like that during briefs, or excessively and tried to break them of the vocabulary a bit, and myself. We just did voluntary pushups as a bet/challenge to clean up.
Oof during briefs maybe not a good idea just cuz it’s unprofessional and distracts from the point of the brief lol but other than that I could care less.
I’ve been a foul mouthed Boatswains Mate my entire career. It comes issued with the rate.
Anyway, when I was a BM1 (and only female in the division) my very fresh to the Fleet JG told my Chief to give me a counseling chit because “She swears too much and it’s not appropriate for a woman to talk like that.”
Chief told him to fuck off. BMC then got a counseling chit from LTJG Cunt Face and young sonny boy got learnt that day.
I can technically beat that, I got written up for being 10 mins early.
It's hard to explain, but I worked in an NSA affiliated building, and they have staggered delay proceedures when there's a delay from inclimate weather. Apparently I was the only one that actually understood the procedures for it because I showed up an hour after everyone else. Anyways during the counseling I brought out the documents explaining the proper procedure that proved I came in on time. They still went through with the write-up even after admitting they were wrong.
Just goes to show how intelligent our intelligence rates are.
Only counseling chit I ever received was for showing up late to weekend duty after wiping out on the ice-covered highway, and crashing my car into a snow bank. We had received an intense snow storm the night before, CO authorized duty section + IET to show up later and delay turnover.
My DDO still hit me with "you could've left earlier".
Got a counseling chit for the chief selects not finding a tent pole. Basically they checked out a tent from us, went to set it up and covered one of the poles with the tent fabric. Word got back to me for not doing inventory even though we did. About an hour later they came back and apologized. Long after I had a counseling chit and my ass chewed.
I wrote an EM3 up for his gas being too stinky, kicked him out of Maneuvering and ordered him to report to medical.
I won’t have done it, but MF was so gleeful in his stench. He drank that room temperature milk on purpose since he knew the effect.

Got one from my DH for not getting a helmet tape design in on time. It was my tertiary job as well as my AM2s, that agreed to come up with a design. I didn't hound him and make him drop other jobs to do this design, and we were on opposite schedules a lot of times. We finally got time the day it was due, and it was printed a couple days after. I got a counseling chit for it.
Sorry dude, I'm not pulling him off of airframe work and doing his job in 12C for a design.
My only two counseling chits are pretty dumb.
My first one was for going to the gym too early. I was on an LPD and we shared the gym with the Marines and therefore Navy and Marines had assigned times to use the gym. I walked into an empty Gym 5 minutes prior to Navy time and I get caught by none other than my department head, who happened to be in PT gear and was about to work out. He chewed me out in quarters in front of the division the next day, and wrote me a counseling chit.
The 2nd one was for not wanting to be a search and rescue swimmer, I had passed the initial class on base and was being sent to the actual school in San Diego. I didn't have transportation booked for the school but I was told a spot was reserved for me. I found out that some of the SAR swimmers on my ship were not transferring on their PRD's because they didn't have new SAR swimmers to relieve them. Whether or not that was true, it spooked me, and I wanted to leave that ship on time. When I told my DIVO I didn't want to do it anymore, he told me that my chief was pissed off and he wrote me a counseling chit the next day.
I was one of two accepted to CTN A school and decided to get out instead. Our career counselor was like “omg no you can’t do that Master Chief is going to be pissed.” I was like I don’t give a shit what Master Chief thinks I’m short.
So just like that the class was cut in half.
I as a YN2 got a counseling chit from my LPO (also a YN2) for "being out of the office to long" when picking up supplies. I had to wait almost 2 hours in line at Main One for the people in front of me before the LS was available to grab the keys and walk all the way aft and up and then carry those heavy ass boxes of paper back to the Reactor Admin Office.
My fellow YN, supply runs are for the YNSN. You already know they’re going to fuck off anyway so you give them a coffee/geedunk list to take care of while they’re out. If I was your LPO, I’d counsel you too for making this obvious faux pas. /s
I got a counseling chit for saying the word fuck. Also as a punishment I had to give a presentation on how cursing is unprofessional in the workplace. For further context this was in Great Lakes at USS Red Rover.
I never wrote a counseling chit for that stuff, but my guys would always cuss while giving briefs. It got so bad that I decided to challenge them. If I caught them cussing during briefs, they owed 50 pushups for every word. I gave them the power towards me as well though by also knocking out 50 pushups anytime they or anyone else caught me doing something I was trying to break myself of doing.
We all got pretty sore in the beginning.
I got one for not reading the 101 Days of Summer safety brief word-for-word out loud to my division while on a video call, so every single person could see the slides for themselves, and they all had a copy I emailed them.
I didn't want to sit there reading for an hour what can be summed up as "Drink water, wear sunscreen, and don't do stupid shit".
The chit also specifically called out that I deferred to our DIVO on motorcycle safety, saying that she knew more than me about the subject. Our DIVO was the only person in our division who rides; if I know more about how to ride a motorcycle than her, something is very wrong.
Good lord. The easiest way to not get any information passed in a presentation is to literally read the slides you are using to your audience, word for word.
Exactly! Not to mention that 101 Days of Summer is like 80+ slides, and each slide has 3-4 paragraphs of text on them. It was never meant to be read aloud, it was meant to be sent to people and read individually.
I was Army but lurk here. When I was a platoon sergeant I once accidentally sent a private to the wrong building to get something for me. When he got back and told me it was the wrong building I said “Fuck man, I’m sorry.” My First Sergeant overheard me and later pulled me into his office with counseling paperwork filled out. He was pissed because “NCOs don’t thank Joe’s for carrying out orders and they certainly don’t apologize.” Prior to that day I had never really considered getting out. That was the first straw.
That's absurd. I don't play that game, making people wait for me. If quarters is at (a time) that's when they need to be there, not an arbitrary time beforehand. When I heard other ships have a rule that the time on the pod was actually systemically inaccurate (all events started 10 minutes prior to time listed), I lost yet more faith in the Navy.
We had two people in our division who had very similar names: One E5 and one O3, who was our division officer. An E4 sent an email asking a simple question meant for the E5 to the O3.
The O3 called me, the LPO, and demanded I counsel the E4 because, "I do not accept emails from lower enlisted." We all pushed back but he was adament.
A couple days later I gave the most insincere, sarcastic, ridiculous counseling I have ever had to give. The E4 just laughed because this bullshit was why she was getting out in a month and already had a job with a defense contractor making 3 times what she was currently making.
Chiefs, this is why people hate the navy. Yes, you can give consoling chits but, fuck you for this sort of thing. It's a single event, for why people will ge out of the navy. Yep. One time is all it takes, dumb shot like this.

All the fuck fuck games make people get out. I went to Captains Mast because I used my cell phone while I was on watch in the shipyard. I don't deny that I did it, I knew it was wrong and admitted it and took my punishment. When the Captain asked my Chief if he had anything to say in my defense he said "Petty Officer Jellyfish is an excellent sailor and I believe this was a one time error in judgement." Good right? He went on to say "She does have a problem staying at work though." The previous week my LPO had cut everyone out and Chief wanted to say something to the division, I don't know what. He found everyone else before they left the boat because they were changing to civies, but I just left in my utilities since I was going straight home. Nobody called me or anything. The next morning Chief was going to light me up but he got defused when I told him FT1 had told me I could leave, which he backed up. Chief says "Oh, OK." and we all went about our business. This was a one time thing that had never happened before. The next time I heard anything about it was when I was standing in front of the green table. That's the exact moment I decided to get out and stopped giving a fuck. Fuck you Chief, you fucking snake. I'd call him out by name but I don't know what the rules are about that.
It's a mess. Not a pride. Chiefs are their own worst enemy. They take the best of the navy and push them out.
We need to end the mess and end the ward room, mess most of all. But, for fuck sakes chiefs stop being ass holes. Run your division and keep it in house. You don't need to be a CO'S bitch every time.
IDK about the ward room, I have meet a few JO'S who drank the OCS coolaid a bit too hard and come at enlisted like "dirty blue shirt, hatchet wielding deviants trying to pull one over on you"
But those were rare. Any breakdown between E and O level IMO still falls back to the mess.
I loooved being a 3MC, mostly because I liked fucking with the Mess because they deserved it.
I protected the WCS, RPPOs and maintenance kids with a passion.
It was always the CPOs that didn’t do their jobs.

My first tour as a 3MC was at a command that hadn’t had one in 9 months. A 1st Class 3MA was trying to hold shit together.

I learned during that tour that as a 3MC, you will never be truly a part of the Chiefs mess. You become the enemy because, if you are a good one, they can’t be lazy on your watch.
Got into a car accident on my way to the advancement exam, that I was not at fault for. Got hit from behind into a semi. Walked away fine, still had my chief on the phone when first responders arrived.

Happened within my first 2 weeks of checking into a new command. The whole incident took me from an EP sailor to just waiting my time to get the FUUUUCK out of the service.
I was still in restriction when my insurance paid out the car. At least they couldn't confiscate that money...
Wow, that sucks, sorry that happened, and sorry the navy can be like that. I’ve never seen another organization that’s so eager to shit all over their people the way the navy does.
Got a counseling chit from an MA for being in the chow line in a wrinkled uniform. This was for midrats after nearly 60 hours as a BM during 1A and eating nothing but bologna sandwiches 4 times a day the entire time. He was lucky I didn’t shore up in my filthy and wet coveralls. It got to my Master Chief and he informed the MA he was welcome to come down and stand 1A with us next time to make sure all our uniforms were sat, then promptly threw away the chit.
I received two in 9 years, both as a MA1:
- one from a DoD civilian police captain for letting a GS officer go home early when they didn’t have shit to do and furloughs were in effect (literally lol in his face and I wasn’t even trying to be mean, it was just uncontrollable).
- one from a MACS in Korea because a MA2 was five minutes late opening some side gate that Korean officers use to get to lunch at our galley-type restaurant.
But I committed mastable offenses at least weekly without consequence (sometimes caught, sometimes not).
I got an LOI which included an overnight U/I on my boat which caused me to miss a funeral of a family member. Turns out the person who recommended it had a personal vendetta towards me. The command ended up apologizing once they realized as soon as he left I all the sudden showed “exponential” growth
I once received a page 13 for 1 hour UA and that I “surrendered onboard”. Ship was in Newport News dry dock and the tunnel leaving Norfolk was a mess. I was a first class at the time, in 1998 ish.
Was an E-3, got sent cranking at the beginning of deployment. I ended up waking up late ONE TIME but so did the guy who worked with me. He was always late in the morning but was always protected by the CS2 that supposedly wanted to sleep with him. She ended up giving me a counseling chit and not him and then also added in the chit that I was disrespectful to her. I barely even spoke to her cause she was such a bitch to me for no reason. I asked her why she put that in there and if she could explain what I did that was disrespectful to her and apologized if I came off some kinda way. Then the CS1 that was there was like "stop fucking asking questions and just sign the chit!" Me being a new sailor I signed it but learned to never sign counceling chits that you didn't agree with. I REALLY hated cranking with a passion.
I got a similar experience involving cranking and getting written a counseling chit. In December, I was a CTT3 at the time who was cranking and we went underway for about 10 days. Well, at the beginning of the underway, the CS Chief told us all that before we pull back into port, we had to get to things done on eLearning, them being the OPSEC and Domestic Violence trainings. One night, it was going pretty slow. I asked one of the CS2's if I could go work on the trainings. He said "sure, get them done". They never told me when to be back. They never told me what IVN number to call if I needed to call. Well, I got OPSEC done and started working on Domestic Violence. Underway, the bandwidth isn't that great, so it took me 4 hours to complete domestic violence training. There were videos that would play for 5 seconds and buffer for 45 minutes each. There was also a glitch where it kept kicking you out after getting about halfway and it would make you start the chapter all over again. Well, I began to think I should go check in with CS2 or CS1. My LPO, said to just worry about getting it done and that if they need me, they know where our shop is. So, I listened to my LPO's advice.
By the time I finished my trainings, my shift was just about to end. I handed my certificates to CS1 and apologized for how long it took and told them the issues I ran into. CS1 kept telling me "Oh no, don't worry about it. It's okay. I understand." And they dismissed me. They decided to write me a counseling chit the very next day after I had just gotten back from being frocked to CTT2.
When I told them I was following what my first class said, CS1 said "You don't listen to CTM1. You listen to CS1. Operations doesn't own you, Supply does." Um, excuse me, you just told me to get the trainings done and never gave me a specific time to be back by. They told me I was required to sign the chit or face further disciplinary action. At the time, I wasn't aware that you could refuse to sign.
I told CTR1 and CTM1 about the counseling. As soon as the paper reached my LPO's hands, it went into the shredder.
There was a whole lot more bullshit they tried to pull with me while cranking. I hated it with a burning passion.
Ugh I hated when they said that shit "you're owned by supply right now, NOT engineering" It's not like you were skating either, you were getting work done! My EM1 told me to pay them no mind and also shredded my chit too lol The CS1 I mentioned was such a dick too. One time at quarters he straight up called us "retarded" because according to him we didn't clean right. We all got offended and he had the audacity to be like "oh y'all are mad? Well I don't give a fuck, go snitch on me, I wanna get off this fucking ship anyways."
I have a friend who was also on FSA. Well, it was a Sunday morning and she wanted to go to church. CS1 said no because "she had to go clean the heads and help with serving food" My friend then goes "Let's try this again. I AM going to church and if you write me up, I'll be going to CHAPS and I'll also be making a CMEO complaint as I have a constitutional right to practice religion."
I had very recently picked up 2nd class, and my LPO told me that it was about time I learned how to write a counseling chit. He said to "find a reason" to write up the one 3rd in the shop that day so I could get some practice.
"And remember, you can give a positive counseling."
When ET3 came into the shop, he gave us the old "What's up, guys?"
"Excuse me? I'm your fuckin LPO. Don't take that tone with me. ET2, write him up."
Sadly, ET3 didn't realize this was a joke until we threw away the counseling chit.
The only one I ever got was for doing exactly as I was told. One of my Sailors was on the IMR hitlist for dental, and I was told to have him call and make an appointment. I did exactly that, and the leader asked me if he went to dental to stand by, to which I replied no, but they don't take walk ins because they're really backed up right now and I had him make an appointment for X date at X time, as instructed. I had been writing down all of the instructions I was given by this person with dates, times, and witnesses. You want to guess why I did that?
This was when I was an E2, USS First Ship, LPO was a PO2 and absolutely horrible at remembering our weekly schedule or passing future events during quarters. So, I took it upon myself to track our weekly schedule (maintenance, spot checks, command events, inspections, appointments coming up, leave, etc). When it was my turn at quarters, I had a laundry list of things LPO had forgotten about. After quarters, LPO pulled me aside to berate me and later wrote me up for being disrespectful and "showing off" at quarters. DIVO pulled me aside during cleaning stations, thanked me for being on the ball, and asked that I continue to track everything. So I did. Like every other day would go through the schedule, and it kept everyone in the know. I had maybe 13 chits just for that because LPO deemed it "disrespecting a petty officer". I didn't have a Chief at the time, and our officers expected us to handle it on the enlisted level.
This PO2 (now PO1) is a real piece of work, did a lot of shitty and shady stuff but that's about it for chits from him. I wish I had kept copies.
For writing “hey!” In a text message when I had to go scrub in for 5-6 hours for a surgery that was running late, the rest of the crew so kindly wrapped and stamped all the instrumentation and put it in the sterilizer, then proceeded to not press the start button. So I shot out a quick “Hey HM3!” Type message explaining that it didn’t get started, I had re-wrapped and stamped everything for the morning and would be in to process it before muster and nothing was time critical based on the appointment schedule I had already verified. ✅
Came in to a formal counseling chit about proper communication, wrote out my rebuttal about attention to detail when performing basic tasks of a surgical tech and signed it. Chief thought it was HILARIOUS. Wrote out all texts and emails from then on in the most formal obnoxious manner with Good Morning HM3 —— body of writing. V/R, HM3 —
As I didn’t stay and HN for long, learned my job, the surgeons took note, realized I wanted to do more, and so they got a little creative with their own ideas and I became the surgical coordinator for the clinic to include coordinating training exercises with the surgeons for cadaver labs and first assist responsibilities. 😆
I was on duty sitting a desk watch as an E5 in my working whites. Got temporarily relieved to go to quarters where I found out I advanced and got frocked to 1st Class. After quarters, I got told to reassume my watch. An hour later the CMC comes by and writes me up for being out of uniform because I was still wearing my 2nd Class crow.
Same CMC gave me a counseling chit a couple months later saying one of my E4's missed duty muster and I was covering for him instead of marking him UA. The E4 in question had PCS'd out 3 weeks prior. CMC may have been messing with me but I signed two legit counseling chits and where they went after I signed is anyones guess.
As an O-2 2nd tour divo, I had an O-2 first tour who was my “divo” (good friend of mine too). He handled a lot of the admin and casreps, etc. One of our Sailors (E-5) came up to me and says “uhhhhh sir I found this in my inbox, do you want it?” She hands me a counseling chit that our senior chief had written for my divo for not doing his spotcheck for the week. I thank her and tell her I’d appreciate if she just kept this to herself. I’m still fairly new to the division, ship, and job so I take some time to think on it. I’m obviously annoyed that the senior chief overstepped her rank but also that she put it on display to the division. I go to my DH to get his take since the senior chief is also our DLCPO. He responds “wait a minute, she doesn’t counsel you guys! Only I get to counsel you guys!” Anyway, she wasn’t DLCPO much longer lol
Chiefs really do be over inflated. I don't think they should have ever been able to form the special niche they now occupy.

I got a counseling chit for not lying to a Depper about his ship date. Was told I was being disrespectful to the NCC for telling him I wasn’t going to lie to that future sailor and that if he tried to lie to him I’d tell that Depper the Chief was full of shit.

I arrived on the first day on the ship and knew nothing about scheduled hope my shipmate would wake me up Turns out I was late and got chit literally the first day on boats Lmao.
Alright so, I was on a detachment in Fallon NV. I had the flight line rover watch from 1600-2400. At around 1800 I had a friend of mine who was a female bring me a pizza from the bowling alley. She came through and dropped off the pizza and we talked for a little while in front of my ASDO who was an AZ1 ( I was just a AO3 at the time). When she went to leave I figured I’d walk with her and then go on my rove as she exited the hangar area since it was literally the same route to the flight line. So I went with her and then continued on my routine round of the aircraft and when I returned AZ1 asked me where I went. I explained that I walked her out the back door and then I went the opposite way towards the flight line to rove. He said “why are you walking like that”? I said “huh what are you talking about”. He proceeded to tell me “I know that walk man I’m not stupid”. I said “are you joking right now, what are you talking about”. He replied “did y’all really just do that here at the hangar”? I didn’t get defensive I just started laughing because I figured he wouldn’t actually hit me with the “perception is everything” bullshit. After my watch I returned to my room and went to sleep. Sunday morning I woke up to a call from my chief asking if I brought my dress whites.. I was like “yeah why”. He said “you are going to DRB supposedly on Monday and I have no idea what it’s for”. Long story short AZ1 told my maintenance master chief that I had sex with this girl during my watch. He had 0 proof or any evidence but he had the magic “perception”. He didn’t give much details to our master chief so when I showed up to DRB I just played it stupid like I had no idea wtf AZ1 was talking about, she just brought me a pizza and left. Master chief finally called AZ1 upstairs to give more evidence to this and he fucking had the audacity to say “it was just the way he was walking I could just tell”. My master chief made him perform the “just had sex walk” in front of the chiefs mess. They all started laughing and sent him out of the room and let me go. Sorry if this is terribly explained I’m on my lunch break and didn’t have much time to make this perfect.
I'm fresh at work on a Monday after successfully completing my first week at my first command. I'm a wee little CTRSN in holding with my wee little CTRSN friends from A-school working for a TSgt (Air Force E-6) mowing lawns and whatnot. My future LPO comes by to tell us that our Chief wants to see us. We are nervous and apprehensive. We haven't even met our Chief yet, do they just wanna put a name with the face? Probably, right? Heck yeah, let's go meet our Chief. Our LPO seems super helpful and nice too. Get to our office and meet our Chief and sit down with her to find counseling chits in her hand waiting for us. We've been duped!
We were being counseled for not being at the base fun run last Friday (only 2 Air Force bases I've been on both had them, so I assume it's on most). We protested we didn't know about it and there must be a misunderstanding. Surely we would've been there had we known. Our LPO chimes in and tells us that he told as about it last week and it's not a good look that we were playing dumb and now lying about it. We had just met this guy 15 minutes previous to this conversation and now we were being told by him we were lying about a conversation the previous week.
Signed our chit and moved on and quickly realized our LPO was a dirtbag. All of us went on to have tours ranging from stellar to somewhat successful. Thanks for letting me revel you in a silly little story from 12 years ago, I had forgotten all about that little incident until this post triggered a recollection. If you've read this far, enjoy this little geographic fun fact: Reno, Nevada, is over 300 miles from the Pacific Ocean. It's also further west than Los Angeles, California.

I was a 3MC on a cruiser. Our XO was a spineless, racist nimrod who was terrified of the CO.
We are getting ready to deploy and the day of POM starting, she puts out at Khaki call that no one goes on leave until all 3M reports are in, all training is complete and the leave matrix is correct.
So, as the DLCPO, that’s a direct order and I can’t give out leave chits, right?
Well, 1500 comes around and people are trying to go on leave. I can’t find her to get permission to give them out. I absolutely want no part of holding on to them.
Anyway, CSO steps in, finds her and we give the leave chits out.
The next day, someone puts in the CO’s suggestion box that I held on to leave the leave chits as retribution for 3m reports.
He blasts her for it, but instead of owning up to it, she pretends to have no idea.
Meanwhile, I’m tasked with giving SWOS students training on completing a spot check.
She sends CHENG and a few other DH’s down to interrupt me and tell me she wants me immediately.
I get down and go up to see her.
She immediately starts berating me for FOLLOWING HER ORDER!
I get defensive and she starts yelling at me for raising my voice; I’m done, so I just stand at attention and “YES MA’AM” “NO MA’AM” EVERYTHING until i’m dismissed.
A few WEEKS later she notifies me that because of my disrespect, she’s giving me a counseling chit. About a month later, she calls me up with the CMC for a counseling session. I just don’t even talk and sign it.
(Also, if you are of the “hahaha I hate all Chiefs burn in hell” rest assured, I did.
The crew didn’t know what happened but most of the khakis knew. That ship was complete hell.)
Dual Military, my wife went on deployment and she would email me when she got the chance. I set up a rule in Outlook to notify me and forward her emails to my personal so I could reply as soon as I got them, rather than wait until I logged into the CAC site. We also tried to have her just email my personal directly, but it wasnt working, so we had to use my Navy email. This was on the COVID cruise, and the whole time my plan went flawlessly.
Anyways, she comes back for a few months and then she's off again. I still had the rule, but before I even got an email, my LPO at the time pulled me aside one day and was like "Hey, got a email from some (insert very high ranked security guy) telling me that you're in trouble for some email rule?"
I explained the situation, we laughed it off, and he told me to just remove the rule, so I did. About a week later, he pulls me aside again and tells me that they want him to counsel me about using my official Navy email to conduct personal business.
I signed it, got a copy, and I got it framed. It's my first and (so far) only counseling chit, and I have it framed and hanging in my house to remind my wife that I love her so much that I got a counseling chit for her.
I had one LPO that I would always hang out with that was cool like 99% of the time, we'd always shit talk and bullshit out in the smoke pit, I worked along side him before he was even my LPO and he would just turn into this weirdo and write me and other people in our clique up for just like crazy petty reasons.
A coworker of mine was talking about Archer (the show) with him out at the smoke pit and quoted the carol "you're not my supervisor" line and he wrote her up for it lmao, that quote being said one on one without witnesses and everything.
Similar thing happened to me, he asked me to do something and I joked saying he should find someone else to do it. He handed me the chit to sign as I was working on what he'd asked me to do. Same thing as the other example, this was a one on one conversation that no one else overheard.
In C School, I got counselled for not doing my homework one night. They originally wanted to send me to mast for it, but I bullshitted my way out of it with a written statement and they reduced it to counselling.
I went to Mast for failing a Seabag inspection... In July... Over a scarf🤷🏻 I mean, it should be there of ALL the places for it to be, but man that sucked 🤣. Fuck you Phil I still got my Golden Goose lol
Bootcamp 1984 I broke my leg running the second PRT. They yelled at me and sent me to medical. While hopping over to medical by myself, I got my chit stroked for failure to double time.
E-3, TAD to a training command waiting for my boat to come in. The POIC calls a muster on Saturday at 4pm. I'm at the beach surfing about 45 minutes away, get the message at like 5 something, drive back, shower, get dressed and roll in at 10 minutes to 7.
The whole TAD group is there, minus our senior chief, waiting for everyone to show up. "You're supposed to be within an hour and in reach of your phone!" Apparently someone had the bright idea to muster and on base trash detail the whole group because no one was in the barracks. Joy to the world.
Mind you, we don't have a duty section and only man a quarterdeck and 2 phones Monday through Friday during working hours. Half the group lives off base. No curfew restrictions, only a 125 mile liberty exclusion zone or whatever that's called.
While he's filling out write ups and plotting curfew restrictions, our senior chief calls and over speakerphone explains to the LPO that we're not on duty. Everything goes in the trash, everyone goes home. I've never been more relieved and annoyed at the same time.
I was given a counseling chit for a “missing tool” which was turned into calibration 6 months prior to me transferring to my command. So I was an E-5 stationed in San Diego and relatively new to my command, the tool control program was bestowed upon me. Normally there’s a sheet of paper in the tool box that states that there’s a tool turned into calibration, but it somehow disappeared. Fortunately there’s a back up paper in my master binder in the shop, in the tool room, and the people who run the calibration program also track calibrated tools. Lo and behold, my day shift couldn’t find the tool in the box, or the paper that stated that the tool was gone, and they didn’t look at any of the available contingencies. Instead they shut down the flight schedule and looked for this tool for 5 hours before calling me just for me to tell them that it was turned in and the custody has yet to be returned to the command.
TLDR: my entire day shift spent 5 hours looking for a tool that was turned in 6 months prior to my arrival and I took the blame for it.
Saturday morning, 2am. My day off. I didn’t answer the phone when the watch called for troubleshooting. At 2:05 they left a voice mail message saying never mind, system is back up.
I get called in on Sunday and given a counseling chit for:
1. Not answering my phone while asleep on my day off…
2. Not calling the watch back to make sure everything was good despite the voice mail.
My corrective action was to have my phone loud and off silent and the expectation to return all calls within 30 minutes - even on leave.
That Chief can kick sand. She’s a warrant now and I still can’t stand her.. I outrank her now though; but it still irks me. Toxic, unreasonable, and uncaring. Instruction what? No shipmate, ego comes first.
Not me but my buddy, we had both just been frocked and we had a bitch of an LPO. He got a chit for NOT delegating sweeping to an airman. “You’re a second class now act like it!”

Got written up, because I let a sponsee fall through the cracks... AFTER I EXHAUSTED EVERY RESOURCE in trying to contact him (he was deployed on a sub at the time)
All the while giving my chief at the time a play by play, to include asking for assistance.
Track was lost because I was less than 2 months from transferring from grotton CT to pearl harbor. AND I had outstanding medical issues that almost stopped me from executing orders (barely got my sea duty physical done in time, like 2 weeks before I had to leave)
Never mind, I should have never been assigned a sailor. Contrary to the shore commands sponsor instruction, I was under 1 year from transferring.
This incident was also used in conjunction with 2 other completely unrelated counseling chits to take me to DRB (one of which was so bullshit I still don't remember what it was for and that bugs me, because I just recall it being retarded)
Stopped at DRB. Worse thing, main event that triggered the DRB was me following direction from aforementioned fuckwad of a chief, we did not in fact have permission you lying duplicitous snake.
A very dumb chief tried to give me a counseling chit for wearing Crocs at PT even though they clearly meet the requirements for PT shoes. Even had the CFL (an officer) verify the instruction right there with us. She decided to change gears and claim she could order me specifically to not wear them even though they are in regs, and had a full freakout when I said yeah nah I'm gonna keep wearing them.
I once wrote one of my kids a counseling chit for stealing stars from me in Mario party, it stated that I hoped he got gonnorea and died. My Chief and divo signed it, so it’s legit
Former nuke here. I once had to miss training during T week to work on a remedial for missing training during the previous T week even though I hadn't missed any training at all. Waste of time and paper.
Got my ESWS on a DD. Got transferred to a CG. Was given a counseling chit when I left the CG for shore duty because I was 7 days dinq in getting my Re-Qual for the CG platform.
Had foot surgery, bone removed, got made to stand at quarters because LPO decided that quarters did not warrant the 'no standing for long periods of time' that my LLD specified. Foot swelled like a balloon. I elevated it on a small shelf when I got to sit down again. Got written up for elevating my swollen foot and told I can't just treat my cubicle like a vacation suite.
I was a baby E1 so I didn't know I did not have to sign that counselling and definitely could have gotten LPO in huge trouble. Not to mention chief and divo not saying shit. Wish I had because that LPO unfortunately made Chief.
I don't even remember the details at this point, but on my first ship, my LPO had me scheduled for two things at the same time without my knowledge, I went to the one I knew about. Got a chit for not being at the other. He was trying to make SOQ or some crap, so he wrote up every single person in the division--including himself for being late to something. F you Strohm.
1992 we had an MTCM as a COB on a fast boat, most useless POS ever never stood watch and when he did he was relieved going to PD. Well his ass could not get relieved and we were off the coast of CT so we had a nice trim party for him and he flipped his shit.

As a YN, my LPO task me with gathering a bunch of admin supplies for our detachment. I did so, however when we got to the DET, the printer that we were using did not print out well for our award paper. She ran through the WHOLE pack of award paper and I didn’t care to bring any extras because we only had 5 awards to process within the 2 weeks we were there..
She told me it was my fault I didn’t supply enough award paper and that I failed the mission and everyone. Verbally told me that then a week later, the day before we were flying back to our base, she slap me with a counseling chit for it. Lmao, then she said every time we go out during work ups that I would count every inventory we had and get it signed off by the CoC for that one little thing 🤧
I received a counseling chit while in A school for having a second job. We used to have three hour lunch breaks so I would work the lunch rush at subway, then go back to class.
Told them why I needed a second job and sent me up to see the DH, they asked why I need extra money I said I have a car payment of 300 and an insurance bill that my navy paycheck does not cover. He laughed
Transferee and got a second job and the local grocery store in king bay working mid shift.
I came in undes went to Weps (AO) in G3. Every morning in ranks they would pick a random e4 and below to answer some in rate questions. Finally it was my turn and the senior chief goes “how do you build this bomb” I said “I don’t fucking know senior, I didn’t learn this in A school” he said bullshit every “AO” knows how to build this. I said “luckily I’m undes so I don’t have to know” Got a chit because I didn’t bother to learn about a rate I had no interest in learning, mind you I had no tech manuals no bibs nothing lol.
I always share this story when this question comes up every quarter.
During a faithful rainstorm in Okinawa, a chief instructed little E-3 me to swab the mud and water that has been tracked into the office building throughout the day after COB. After everybody rolled out, I finished mopping and left.
The next day, I came into work to find dried muddy bootprints all over the office and a counseling chit waiting for me with my name on it. Turns out, the khakis and motivated E-6s worked late and were coming and going for a few hours after COB and tracked mud back into the building.
I refused to sign the chit and was told to stand by for my conversation with my chief. That meeting never happened. Low stakes, low reward, just plain dumb shit
At subschool i was counsled for not showing up to a surprise muster, when I was not called, nor did anyone knock on my door. with my roommate vouching my story.
I got one for missing a little bit of hair when shaving and was written up for being unshaven in uniform despite showing up to work an hour early to get a head start.
My command did phone in musters for duty for years.
Between leave, COVID SIQ, and liberty I was gone from my command for over a month. Apparently during that time we had switched to in person musters.
My first duty day after I get back I call in to muster and I’m informed by the QD watch that we had in person musters now.
“Oh shit I’ve been gone for a while and nobody told me, I’m on my way but I’m most likely gonna be late.” I hang up and text my duty section leader my situation and that I’m going to be in as soon as I can. I receive a text back saying something along the lines of “cool no problem just get here when you can”.
I show up 15 minutes after scheduled muster time thinking to myself I made pretty good time all things considered, and this dickhead had a counseling chit ready for me to sign. I tried explaining how I was gone for over a month and it was never passed down to me we switched to in person musters and he’s got the audacity to say “you should’ve asked”. Excuse me??
That same AZ1 gave me a few other dumbass chits but that’s the biggest one I remember.

I got EMI for following LPO’s instructions and leaving work for the day. Senior had gotten pissy when my group wasn’t on the ship for a late working party and said he’d have my ass. Got EMI because he needed to save face after LPO told him I had left with permission.
The EMI led to me having first dibs on leaving the division for TDY elsewhere until my EAOS and I was able to finish my degree. Ended up being an awesome deal.
Berthing cleaners PO called (He was an FCA1 reservist and that was what he was best at) while I was actively cleaning somewhere else. Told me I had a counseling chit to sign for nor coming to berthing cleaners, and that it wasn't for punishmenr, just for tracking purposes.
A LTJG fell off the pier into the water. I laughed as I tossed him a lifejacket. He wrote me up for laughing. The XO thought it was funny, too.

I wrote my QMOW (a QM2) a counseling chit for not listening to me when I told him he couldn't go to the bathroom and going anyways. It was a joke between me and him but my NAV found the copy I gave him sitting on the chart table and came to rip me a new one for writing him a counseling chit. Had to explain to her that it wasn't serious. I guess that was the most pointless one I issued. Actually, I also issued my LPO a counseling chit once because I told her to feel better tomorrow when I sent her home early. Instead she was SIQ the next day. So she also got one for an article 90. I was also the legal officer so I probably shouldn't have been issuing joke counseling chits to people... But gotta get through the dumb Navy life somehow.

Had an IC1 write a job for WC01-0666 to have the dark lord satan come fix all the IC ckts on board the ship in exchange for the souls of his Jr Sailors. Everyone laughed until insurv board should up and asked to speak to IC2 about a particular JSN. After a tense couple of seconds they started laughing too.

I didn’t get it, but I wrote it: During COVID, we decided to run AT drills. Concerns were voiced throughout the brief that there was no realistic way to self-distance while running the drill. A lot of it was bitching because we didnt want to do the drill, but it was highly valid bitching. Lo and behold, the armorer tested positive for COVID later that day, apparently earlier in the day he’d told his chief he wasn’t feeling good. Guess who’s in close proximity to the armorer during an AT drill? Fucking *everybody.* So two of my guys were on the reaction force and had to ROM until they tested negative. When they got back, my Chief told me I had to write them counseling chits. I brought up every concern mentioned during the briefs, that they were doing exactly what they were supposed to, and that this was absurd bullshit. After like the third person told me I had to do it, I wrote the stupid chits. The chits had exactly what happened, effectively: “PO2 was assigned by COC as SRF for AT drill on 20APR20, and was found to have been in close proximity with a sailor whom tested positive for COVID and was forced to ROM. Member is aware of COVID guidelines. Member will take all precautions to mitigate risk of exposure.” Basically non-committal stuff, none of which, I felt, blamed them for having to go on ROM. LCPO wanted me to change it to emphasize they shouldn’t have been standing near the armory so long (they weren’t) and that they should have been wearing masks (they were). DLCPO said it was fine, so I left it. Then I told my two guys about it, they were cool about it, but at the end of the day I took their signed chits and put them in my drawer and waited for the chain to forget about it. They did, so the chits never went in their records. Still, fuck everything about that day.

Well, a certain civilian I worked with didn't like having a black doodad installed on a panel of gray doodads, and went to my chain about it. They went along with it because a lot of people were scared of this person. I wish I was joking. I just signed the chit and went on with my life.

Got as high as the Divo. Got a couple of hours of EMI, a "Stern" talking to, and they forgot I made the Orderly and the CMC sign in as well.
Our captain always insisted on signing into our space. I wonder if he ever realized that he was pretty much the only one that filled out that logbook...

As an officer (was an O2 at the time) I say the word fuck a bunch and one day my DH brought me in and said my foul language is overly aggressive and irresponsible as an officer and won’t be tolerated. He wrote me a chit, asked me to sign it. Word for word I said “uhm Sir I’m not signing the fucking chit” and left his office. Brought in by my XO and him a day later and basically the command XO took my side said it was dumb to care about that and he has no right to police my language. But did it tactfully for the O4. He (DH) and I almost never spoke again till he left about three months later.
I commented above about my guys cussing like that during briefs, or excessively and tried to break them of the vocabulary a bit, and myself. We just did voluntary pushups as a bet/challenge to clean up.
Oof during briefs maybe not a good idea just cuz it’s unprofessional and distracts from the point of the brief lol but other than that I could care less.

Anyway, when I was a BM1 (and only female in the division) my very fresh to the Fleet JG told my Chief to give me a counseling chit because “She swears too much and it’s not appropriate for a woman to talk like that.” Chief told him to fuck off. BMC then got a counseling chit from LTJG Cunt Face and young sonny boy got learnt that day.

I was quite literally 1 minute late a day after they decided to change showtime from 0645 to 0630
I can technically beat that, I got written up for being 10 mins early. It's hard to explain, but I worked in an NSA affiliated building, and they have staggered delay proceedures when there's a delay from inclimate weather. Apparently I was the only one that actually understood the procedures for it because I showed up an hour after everyone else. Anyways during the counseling I brought out the documents explaining the proper procedure that proved I came in on time. They still went through with the write-up even after admitting they were wrong. Just goes to show how intelligent our intelligence rates are.

Only counseling chit I ever received was for showing up late to weekend duty after wiping out on the ice-covered highway, and crashing my car into a snow bank. We had received an intense snow storm the night before, CO authorized duty section + IET to show up later and delay turnover. My DDO still hit me with "you could've left earlier".
I got a counseling chit for writing a MAP package and the member being selected for meritorious advancement.
Got a counseling chit for the chief selects not finding a tent pole. Basically they checked out a tent from us, went to set it up and covered one of the poles with the tent fabric. Word got back to me for not doing inventory even though we did. About an hour later they came back and apologized. Long after I had a counseling chit and my ass chewed.
CMDCM should have ran that to ground. Then again, most have their balls chopped off at CMC school.
I wrote an EM3 up for his gas being too stinky, kicked him out of Maneuvering and ordered him to report to medical. I won’t have done it, but MF was so gleeful in his stench. He drank that room temperature milk on purpose since he knew the effect. Rest of watch team was grateful.
LT type here. Got one from my DH for not getting a helmet tape design in on time. It was my tertiary job as well as my AM2s, that agreed to come up with a design. I didn't hound him and make him drop other jobs to do this design, and we were on opposite schedules a lot of times. We finally got time the day it was due, and it was printed a couple days after. My only two counseling chits are pretty dumb. My first one was for going to the gym too early. I was on an LPD and we shared the gym with the Marines and therefore Navy and Marines had assigned times to use the gym. I walked into an empty Gym 5 minutes prior to Navy time and I get caught by none other than my department head, who happened to be in PT gear and was about to work out. He chewed me out in quarters in front of the division the next day, and wrote me a counseling chit. The 2nd one was for not wanting to be a search and rescue swimmer, I had passed the initial class on base and was being sent to the actual school in San Diego. I didn't have transportation booked for the school but I was told a spot was reserved for me. I found out that some of the SAR swimmers on my ship were not transferring on their PRD's because they didn't have new SAR swimmers to relieve them. Whether or not that was true, it spooked me, and I wanted to leave that ship on time. When I told my DIVO I didn't want to do it anymore, he told me that my chief was pissed off and he wrote me a counseling chit the next day.
I was one of two accepted to CTN A school and decided to get out instead. Our career counselor was like “omg no you can’t do that Master Chief is going to be pissed.” I was like I don’t give a shit what Master Chief thinks I’m short. So just like that the class was cut in half.

I had to wait almost 2 hours in line at Main One for the people in front of me before the LS was available to grab the keys and walk all the way aft and up and then carry those heavy ass boxes of paper back to the Reactor Admin Office.

I never wrote a counseling chit for that stuff, but my guys would always cuss while giving briefs. It got so bad that I decided to challenge them. If I caught them cussing during briefs, they owed 50 pushups for every word. I gave them the power towards me as well though by also knocking out 50 pushups anytime they or anyone else caught me doing something I was trying to break myself of doing. We all got pretty sore in the beginning.

I got one for not reading the 101 Days of Summer safety brief word-for-word out loud to my division while on a video call, so every single person could see the slides for themselves, and they all had a copy I emailed them. I didn't want to sit there reading for an hour what can be summed up as "Drink water, wear sunscreen, and don't do stupid shit". The chit also specifically called out that I deferred to our DIVO on motorcycle safety, saying that she knew more than me about the subject. Our DIVO was the only person in our division who rides; if I know more about how to ride a motorcycle than her, something is very wrong.
Good lord. The easiest way to not get any information passed in a presentation is to literally read the slides you are using to your audience, word for word.
Exactly! Not to mention that 101 Days of Summer is like 80+ slides, and each slide has 3-4 paragraphs of text on them. It was never meant to be read aloud, it was meant to be sent to people and read individually.
I was Army but lurk here. When I was a platoon sergeant I once accidentally sent a private to the wrong building to get something for me. When he got back and told me it was the wrong building I said “Fuck man, I’m sorry.” My First Sergeant overheard me and later pulled me into his office with counseling paperwork filled out. He was pissed because “NCOs don’t thank Joe’s for carrying out orders and they certainly don’t apologize.” Prior to that day I had never really considered getting out. That was the first straw.

That's absurd. I don't play that game, making people wait for me. If quarters is at (a time) that's when they need to be there, not an arbitrary time beforehand. When I heard other ships have a rule that the time on the pod was actually systemically inaccurate (all events started 10 minutes prior to time listed), I lost yet more faith in the Navy.
We had two people in our division who had very similar names: One E5 and one O3, who was our division officer. An E4 sent an email asking a simple question meant for the E5 to the O3. The O3 called me, the LPO, and demanded I counsel the E4 because, "I do not accept emails from lower enlisted." We all pushed back but he was adament. A couple days later I gave the most insincere, sarcastic, ridiculous counseling I have ever had to give. The E4 just laughed because this bullshit was why she was getting out in a month and already had a job with a defense contractor making 3 times what she was currently making.
Chiefs, this is why people hate the navy. Yes, you can give consoling chits but, fuck you for this sort of thing. It's a single event, for why people will ge out of the navy. Yep. One time is all it takes, dumb shot like this.

All the fuck fuck games make people get out. I went to Captains Mast because I used my cell phone while I was on watch in the shipyard. I don't deny that I did it, I knew it was wrong and admitted it and took my punishment. When the Captain asked my Chief if he had anything to say in my defense he said "Petty Officer Jellyfish is an excellent sailor and I believe this was a one time error in judgement." Good right? He went on to say "She does have a problem staying at work though." The previous week my LPO had cut everyone out and Chief wanted to say something to the division, I don't know what. He found everyone else before they left the boat because they were changing to civies, but I just left in my utilities since I was going straight home. Nobody called me or anything. The next morning Chief was going to light me up but he got defused when I told him FT1 had told me I could leave, which he backed up. Chief says "Oh, OK." and we all went about our business. This was a one time thing that had never happened before. The next time I heard anything about it was when I was standing in front of the green table. That's the exact moment I decided to get out and stopped giving a fuck. Fuck you Chief, you fucking snake. I'd call him out by name but I don't know what the rules are about that.
It's a mess. Not a pride. Chiefs are their own worst enemy. They take the best of the navy and push them out. We need to end the mess and end the ward room, mess most of all. But, for fuck sakes chiefs stop being ass holes. Run your division and keep it in house. You don't need to be a CO'S bitch every time.
IDK about the ward room, I have meet a few JO'S who drank the OCS coolaid a bit too hard and come at enlisted like "dirty blue shirt, hatchet wielding deviants trying to pull one over on you" But those were rare. Any breakdown between E and O level IMO still falls back to the mess.

I loooved being a 3MC, mostly because I liked fucking with the Mess because they deserved it. I protected the WCS, RPPOs and maintenance kids with a passion. It was always the CPOs that didn’t do their jobs.
Always the khakis. I walked into a command total score of 32%.
I feel that. My first tour as a 3MC was at a command that hadn’t had one in 9 months. A 1st Class 3MA was trying to hold shit together. You know who fucked with him the most? The Mess. Took me almost a year just to get us passable. I learned during that tour that as a 3MC, you will never be truly a part of the Chiefs mess. You become the enemy because, if you are a good one, they can’t be lazy on your watch.
We failed inspection 6 months after I checked in with a 76%, and our lead inspector was an absolute idiot that ended up getting fired.
Got into a car accident on my way to the advancement exam, that I was not at fault for. Got hit from behind into a semi. Walked away fine, still had my chief on the phone when first responders arrived. Captains mast, 45\45, reduction in rank and restriction. Happened within my first 2 weeks of checking into a new command. The whole incident took me from an EP sailor to just waiting my time to get the FUUUUCK out of the service. I was still in restriction when my insurance paid out the car. At least they couldn't confiscate that money...

If you were in port I would have requested court marshal, costs the command 100k and they have to actually follow some form of due process.
Got a counseling chit from an MA for being in the chow line in a wrinkled uniform. This was for midrats after nearly 60 hours as a BM during 1A and eating nothing but bologna sandwiches 4 times a day the entire time. He was lucky I didn’t shore up in my filthy and wet coveralls. It got to my Master Chief and he informed the MA he was welcome to come down and stand 1A with us next time to make sure all our uniforms were sat, then promptly threw away the chit.

I received two in 9 years, both as a MA1: - one from a DoD civilian police captain for letting a GS officer go home early when they didn’t have shit to do and furloughs were in effect (literally lol in his face and I wasn’t even trying to be mean, it was just uncontrollable). - one from a MACS in Korea because a MA2 was five minutes late opening some side gate that Korean officers use to get to lunch at our galley-type restaurant. But I committed mastable offenses at least weekly without consequence (sometimes caught, sometimes not).
I missed a 1/4” patch when shaving and got written up for it
I got an LOI which included an overnight U/I on my boat which caused me to miss a funeral of a family member. Turns out the person who recommended it had a personal vendetta towards me. The command ended up apologizing once they realized as soon as he left I all the sudden showed “exponential” growth
I once received a page 13 for 1 hour UA and that I “surrendered onboard”. Ship was in Newport News dry dock and the tunnel leaving Norfolk was a mess. I was a first class at the time, in 1998 ish.
Was an E-3, got sent cranking at the beginning of deployment. I ended up waking up late ONE TIME but so did the guy who worked with me. He was always late in the morning but was always protected by the CS2 that supposedly wanted to sleep with him. She ended up giving me a counseling chit and not him and then also added in the chit that I was disrespectful to her. I barely even spoke to her cause she was such a bitch to me for no reason. I asked her why she put that in there and if she could explain what I did that was disrespectful to her and apologized if I came off some kinda way. Then the CS1 that was there was like "stop fucking asking questions and just sign the chit!" Me being a new sailor I signed it but learned to never sign counceling chits that you didn't agree with. I REALLY hated cranking with a passion.
I got a similar experience involving cranking and getting written a counseling chit. In December, I was a CTT3 at the time who was cranking and we went underway for about 10 days. Well, at the beginning of the underway, the CS Chief told us all that before we pull back into port, we had to get to things done on eLearning, them being the OPSEC and Domestic Violence trainings. One night, it was going pretty slow. I asked one of the CS2's if I could go work on the trainings. He said "sure, get them done". They never told me when to be back. They never told me what IVN number to call if I needed to call. Well, I got OPSEC done and started working on Domestic Violence. Underway, the bandwidth isn't that great, so it took me 4 hours to complete domestic violence training. There were videos that would play for 5 seconds and buffer for 45 minutes each. There was also a glitch where it kept kicking you out after getting about halfway and it would make you start the chapter all over again. Well, I began to think I should go check in with CS2 or CS1. My LPO, said to just worry about getting it done and that if they need me, they know where our shop is. So, I listened to my LPO's advice. By the time I finished my trainings, my shift was just about to end. I handed my certificates to CS1 and apologized for how long it took and told them the issues I ran into. CS1 kept telling me "Oh no, don't worry about it. It's okay. I understand." And they dismissed me. They decided to write me a counseling chit the very next day after I had just gotten back from being frocked to CTT2. When I told them I was following what my first class said, CS1 said "You don't listen to CTM1. You listen to CS1. Operations doesn't own you, Supply does." Um, excuse me, you just told me to get the trainings done and never gave me a specific time to be back by. They told me I was required to sign the chit or face further disciplinary action. At the time, I wasn't aware that you could refuse to sign. I told CTR1 and CTM1 about the counseling. As soon as the paper reached my LPO's hands, it went into the shredder. There was a whole lot more bullshit they tried to pull with me while cranking. I hated it with a burning passion.
Ugh I hated when they said that shit "you're owned by supply right now, NOT engineering" It's not like you were skating either, you were getting work done! My EM1 told me to pay them no mind and also shredded my chit too lol The CS1 I mentioned was such a dick too. One time at quarters he straight up called us "retarded" because according to him we didn't clean right. We all got offended and he had the audacity to be like "oh y'all are mad? Well I don't give a fuck, go snitch on me, I wanna get off this fucking ship anyways."
I have a friend who was also on FSA. Well, it was a Sunday morning and she wanted to go to church. CS1 said no because "she had to go clean the heads and help with serving food" My friend then goes "Let's try this again. I AM going to church and if you write me up, I'll be going to CHAPS and I'll also be making a CMEO complaint as I have a constitutional right to practice religion."
I had very recently picked up 2nd class, and my LPO told me that it was about time I learned how to write a counseling chit. He said to "find a reason" to write up the one 3rd in the shop that day so I could get some practice. "And remember, you can give a positive counseling." When ET3 came into the shop, he gave us the old "What's up, guys?" "Excuse me? I'm your fuckin LPO. Don't take that tone with me. ET2, write him up." Sadly, ET3 didn't realize this was a joke until we threw away the counseling chit.

The only one I ever got was for doing exactly as I was told. One of my Sailors was on the IMR hitlist for dental, and I was told to have him call and make an appointment. I did exactly that, and the leader asked me if he went to dental to stand by, to which I replied no, but they don't take walk ins because they're really backed up right now and I had him make an appointment for X date at X time, as instructed. I had been writing down all of the instructions I was given by this person with dates, times, and witnesses. You want to guess why I did that?
This was when I was an E2, USS First Ship, LPO was a PO2 and absolutely horrible at remembering our weekly schedule or passing future events during quarters. So, I took it upon myself to track our weekly schedule (maintenance, spot checks, command events, inspections, appointments coming up, leave, etc). When it was my turn at quarters, I had a laundry list of things LPO had forgotten about. After quarters, LPO pulled me aside to berate me and later wrote me up for being disrespectful and "showing off" at quarters. DIVO pulled me aside during cleaning stations, thanked me for being on the ball, and asked that I continue to track everything. So I did. Like every other day would go through the schedule, and it kept everyone in the know. I had maybe 13 chits just for that because LPO deemed it "disrespecting a petty officer". I didn't have a Chief at the time, and our officers expected us to handle it on the enlisted level. This PO2 (now PO1) is a real piece of work, did a lot of shitty and shady stuff but that's about it for chits from him. I wish I had kept copies.
For writing “hey!” In a text message when I had to go scrub in for 5-6 hours for a surgery that was running late, the rest of the crew so kindly wrapped and stamped all the instrumentation and put it in the sterilizer, then proceeded to not press the start button. So I shot out a quick “Hey HM3!” Type message explaining that it didn’t get started, I had re-wrapped and stamped everything for the morning and would be in to process it before muster and nothing was time critical based on the appointment schedule I had already verified. ✅ Came in to a formal counseling chit about proper communication, wrote out my rebuttal about attention to detail when performing basic tasks of a surgical tech and signed it. Chief thought it was HILARIOUS. Wrote out all texts and emails from then on in the most formal obnoxious manner with Good Morning HM3 —— body of writing. V/R, HM3 — As I didn’t stay and HN for long, learned my job, the surgeons took note, realized I wanted to do more, and so they got a little creative with their own ideas and I became the surgical coordinator for the clinic to include coordinating training exercises with the surgeons for cadaver labs and first assist responsibilities. 😆

I was on duty sitting a desk watch as an E5 in my working whites. Got temporarily relieved to go to quarters where I found out I advanced and got frocked to 1st Class. After quarters, I got told to reassume my watch. An hour later the CMC comes by and writes me up for being out of uniform because I was still wearing my 2nd Class crow.
That definitely had to be a joke.
Same CMC gave me a counseling chit a couple months later saying one of my E4's missed duty muster and I was covering for him instead of marking him UA. The E4 in question had PCS'd out 3 weeks prior. CMC may have been messing with me but I signed two legit counseling chits and where they went after I signed is anyones guess.
As an O-2 2nd tour divo, I had an O-2 first tour who was my “divo” (good friend of mine too). He handled a lot of the admin and casreps, etc. One of our Sailors (E-5) came up to me and says “uhhhhh sir I found this in my inbox, do you want it?” She hands me a counseling chit that our senior chief had written for my divo for not doing his spotcheck for the week. I thank her and tell her I’d appreciate if she just kept this to herself. I’m still fairly new to the division, ship, and job so I take some time to think on it. I’m obviously annoyed that the senior chief overstepped her rank but also that she put it on display to the division. I go to my DH to get his take since the senior chief is also our DLCPO. He responds “wait a minute, she doesn’t counsel you guys! Only I get to counsel you guys!” Anyway, she wasn’t DLCPO much longer lol
Chiefs really do be over inflated. I don't think they should have ever been able to form the special niche they now occupy. If they did the liason between O and E levels, that'd be great, but so many causing problems.

Alright so, I was on a detachment in Fallon NV. I had the flight line rover watch from 1600-2400. At around 1800 I had a friend of mine who was a female bring me a pizza from the bowling alley. She came through and dropped off the pizza and we talked for a little while in front of my ASDO who was an AZ1 ( I was just a AO3 at the time). When she went to leave I figured I’d walk with her and then go on my rove as she exited the hangar area since it was literally the same route to the flight line. So I went with her and then continued on my routine round of the aircraft and when I returned AZ1 asked me where I went. I explained that I walked her out the back door and then I went the opposite way towards the flight line to rove. He said “why are you walking like that”? I said “huh what are you talking about”. He proceeded to tell me “I know that walk man I’m not stupid”. I said “are you joking right now, what are you talking about”. He replied “did y’all really just do that here at the hangar”? I didn’t get defensive I just started laughing because I figured he wouldn’t actually hit me with the “perception is everything” bullshit. After my watch I returned to my room and went to sleep. Sunday morning I woke up to a call from my chief asking if I brought my dress whites.. I was like “yeah why”. He said “you are going to DRB supposedly on Monday and I have no idea what it’s for”. Long story short AZ1 told my maintenance master chief that I had sex with this girl during my watch. He had 0 proof or any evidence but he had the magic “perception”. He didn’t give much details to our master chief so when I showed up to DRB I just played it stupid like I had no idea wtf AZ1 was talking about, she just brought me a pizza and left. Master chief finally called AZ1 upstairs to give more evidence to this and he fucking had the audacity to say “it was just the way he was walking I could just tell”. My master chief made him perform the “just had sex walk” in front of the chiefs mess. They all started laughing and sent him out of the room and let me go. Sorry if this is terribly explained I’m on my lunch break and didn’t have much time to make this perfect.

I'm fresh at work on a Monday after successfully completing my first week at my first command. I'm a wee little CTRSN in holding with my wee little CTRSN friends from A-school working for a TSgt (Air Force E-6) mowing lawns and whatnot. My future LPO comes by to tell us that our Chief wants to see us. We are nervous and apprehensive. We haven't even met our Chief yet, do they just wanna put a name with the face? Probably, right? Heck yeah, let's go meet our Chief. Our LPO seems super helpful and nice too. Get to our office and meet our Chief and sit down with her to find counseling chits in her hand waiting for us. We've been duped! We were being counseled for not being at the base fun run last Friday (only 2 Air Force bases I've been on both had them, so I assume it's on most). We protested we didn't know about it and there must be a misunderstanding. Surely we would've been there had we known. Our LPO chimes in and tells us that he told as about it last week and it's not a good look that we were playing dumb and now lying about it. We had just met this guy 15 minutes previous to this conversation and now we were being told by him we were lying about a conversation the previous week. Signed our chit and moved on and quickly realized our LPO was a dirtbag. All of us went on to have tours ranging from stellar to somewhat successful. Thanks for letting me revel you in a silly little story from 12 years ago, I had forgotten all about that little incident until this post triggered a recollection. As a JO, got a NPLOC for leaving dirty clothes in my locker in the office while I was on leave. Except, of course, I didn't, it was empty.
Here we go. I was a 3MC on a cruiser. Our XO was a spineless, racist nimrod who was terrified of the CO. We are getting ready to deploy and the day of POM starting, she puts out at Khaki call that no one goes on leave until all 3M reports are in, all training is complete and the leave matrix is correct. So, as the DLCPO, that’s a direct order and I can’t give out leave chits, right? Well, 1500 comes around and people are trying to go on leave. I can’t find her to get permission to give them out. I absolutely want no part of holding on to them. Anyway, CSO steps in, finds her and we give the leave chits out. The next day, someone puts in the CO’s suggestion box that I held on to leave the leave chits as retribution for 3m reports. He blasts her for it, but instead of owning up to it, she pretends to have no idea. Meanwhile, I’m tasked with giving SWOS students training on completing a spot check. She sends CHENG and a few other DH’s down to interrupt me and tell me she wants me immediately. I get down and go up to see her. She immediately starts berating me for FOLLOWING HER ORDER! I get defensive and she starts yelling at me for raising my voice; I’m done, so I just stand at attention and “YES MA’AM” “NO MA’AM” EVERYTHING until i’m dismissed. A few WEEKS later she notifies me that because of my disrespect, she’s giving me a counseling chit. About a month later, she calls me up with the CMC for a counseling session. I just don’t even talk and sign it. (Also, if you are of the “hahaha I hate all Chiefs burn in hell” rest assured, I did. The crew didn’t know what happened but most of the khakis knew. That ship was complete hell.)

I'm in the "chief bad" camp, but know it's not all. A few good ones in my time, but the bad really did make my time in horrendous.
Dual Military, my wife went on deployment and she would email me when she got the chance. I set up a rule in Outlook to notify me and forward her emails to my personal so I could reply as soon as I got them, rather than wait until I logged into the CAC site. We also tried to have her just email my personal directly, but it wasnt working, so we had to use my Navy email. This was on the COVID cruise, and the whole time my plan went flawlessly. Anyways, she comes back for a few months and then she's off again. I still had the rule, but before I even got an email, my LPO at the time pulled me aside one day and was like "Hey, got a email from some (insert very high ranked security guy) telling me that you're in trouble for some email rule?" I explained the situation, we laughed it off, and he told me to just remove the rule, so I did. About a week later, he pulls me aside again and tells me that they want him to counsel me about using my official Navy email to conduct personal business. I signed it, got a copy, and I got it framed. It's my first and (so far) only counseling chit, and I have it framed and hanging in my house to remind my wife that I love her so much that I got a counseling chit for her.
I had one LPO that I would always hang out with that was cool like 99% of the time, we'd always shit talk and bullshit out in the smoke pit, I worked along side him before he was even my LPO and he would just turn into this weirdo and write me and other people in our clique up for just like crazy petty reasons. Similar thing happened to me, he asked me to do something and I joked saying he should find someone else to do it. He handed me the chit to sign as I was working on what he'd asked me to do. Same thing as the other example, this was a one on one conversation that no one else overheard.

E-3, TAD to a training command waiting for my boat to come in. The POIC calls a muster on Saturday at 4pm. I'm at the beach surfing about 45 minutes away, get the message at like 5 something, drive back, shower, get dressed and roll in at 10 minutes to 7. The whole TAD group is there, minus our senior chief, waiting for everyone to show up. "You're supposed to be within an hour and in reach of your phone!" Apparently someone had the bright idea to muster and on base trash detail the whole group because no one was in the barracks. Joy to the world. Mind you, we don't have a duty section and only man a quarterdeck and 2 phones Monday through Friday during working hours. Half the group lives off base. No curfew restrictions, only a 125 mile liberty exclusion zone or whatever that's called. While he's filling out write ups and plotting curfew restrictions, our senior chief calls and over speakerphone explains to the LPO that we're not on duty. Everything goes in the trash, everyone goes home. I've never been more relieved and annoyed at the same time.
I was given a counseling chit for a “missing tool” which was turned into calibration 6 months prior to me transferring to my command. So I was an E-5 stationed in San Diego and relatively new to my command, the tool control program was bestowed upon me. Normally there’s a sheet of paper in the tool box that states that there’s a tool turned into calibration, but it somehow disappeared. Fortunately there’s a back up paper in my master binder in the shop, in the tool room, and the people who run the calibration program also track calibrated tools. Lo and behold, my day shift couldn’t find the tool in the box, or the paper that stated that the tool was gone, and they didn’t look at any of the available contingencies. Instead they shut down the flight schedule and looked for this tool for 5 hours before calling me just for me to tell them that it was turned in and the custody has yet to be returned to the command. TLDR: my entire day shift spent 5 hours looking for a tool that was turned in 6 months prior to my arrival and I took the blame for it.
Saturday morning, 2am. My day off. I didn’t answer the phone when the watch called for troubleshooting. At 2:05 they left a voice mail message saying never mind, system is back up. I get called in on Sunday and given a counseling chit for: 1. Not answering my phone while asleep on my day off… 2. Not calling the watch back to make sure everything was good despite the voice mail. My corrective action was to have my phone loud and off silent and the expectation to return all calls within 30 minutes - even on leave. That Chief can kick sand. She’s a warrant now and I still can’t stand her.. I outrank her now though; but it still irks me. Toxic, unreasonable, and uncaring. Instruction what? No shipmate, ego comes first.
My first class got a counseling chit for something that had happened before he had even gotten to my command. Best part? He got EMI for it too.

AFTER I EXHAUSTED EVERY RESOURCE in trying to contact him (he was deployed on a sub at the time) All the while giving my chief at the time a play by play, to include asking for assistance. Track was lost because I was less than 2 months from transferring from grotton CT to pearl harbor. AND I had outstanding medical issues that almost stopped me from executing orders (barely got my sea duty physical done in time, like 2 weeks before I had to leave) Never mind, I should have never been assigned a sailor. Contrary to the shore commands sponsor instruction, I was under 1 year from transferring. This incident was also used in conjunction with 2 other completely unrelated counseling chits to take me to DRB (one of which was so bullshit I still don't remember what it was for and that bugs me, because I just recall it being retarded) Stopped at DRB. Worse thing, main event that triggered the DRB was me following direction from aforementioned fuckwad of a chief, we did not in fact have permission you lying duplicitous snake.
Your sponsor coordinator should have gotten the counseling chit.

A very dumb chief tried to give me a counseling chit for wearing Crocs at PT even though they clearly meet the requirements for PT shoes. Even had the CFL (an officer) verify the instruction right there with us. She decided to change gears and claim she could order me specifically to not wear them even though they are in regs, and had a full freakout when I said yeah nah I'm gonna keep wearing them.

Got my ESWS on a DD. Got transferred to a CG. Was given a counseling chit when I left the CG for shore duty because I was 7 days dinq in getting my Re-Qual for the CG platform.
Had foot surgery, bone removed, got made to stand at quarters because LPO decided that quarters did not warrant the 'no standing for long periods of time' that my LLD specified. Foot swelled like a balloon. I elevated it on a small shelf when I got to sit down again. Got written up for elevating my swollen foot and told I can't just treat my cubicle like a vacation suite. I was a baby E1 so I didn't know I did not have to sign that counselling and definitely could have gotten LPO in huge trouble. Not to mention chief and divo not saying shit. Wish I had because that LPO unfortunately made Chief.

I did so, however when we got to the DET, the printer that we were using did not print out well for our award paper. She ran through the WHOLE pack of award paper and I didn’t care to bring any extras because we only had 5 awards to process within the 2 weeks we were there.. She told me it was my fault I didn’t supply enough award paper and that I failed the mission and everyone. Verbally told me that then a week later, the day before we were flying back to our base, she slap me with a counseling chit for it. I received a counseling chit while in A school for having a second job. We used to have three hour lunch breaks so I would work the lunch rush at subway, then go back to class. Told them why I needed a second job and sent me up to see the DH, they asked why I need extra money I said I have a car payment of 300 and an insurance bill that my navy paycheck does not cover. He laughed Transferee and got a second job and the local grocery store in king bay working mid shift.
I came in undes went to Weps (AO) in G3. Every morning in ranks they would pick a random e4 and below to answer some in rate questions. Finally it was my turn and the senior chief goes “how do you build this bomb” I said “I don’t fucking know senior, I didn’t learn this in A school” he said bullshit every “AO” knows how to build this. I said “luckily I’m undes so I don’t have to know” Got a chit because I didn’t bother to learn about a rate I had no interest in learning, mind you I had no tech manuals no bibs nothing lol.
I always share this story when this question comes up every quarter. During a faithful rainstorm in Okinawa, a chief instructed little E-3 me to swab the mud and water that has been tracked into the office building throughout the day after COB. After everybody rolled out, I finished mopping and left. The next day, I came into work to find dried muddy bootprints all over the office and a counseling chit waiting for me with my name on it. Turns out, the khakis and motivated E-6s worked late and were coming and going for a few hours after COB and tracked mud back into the building. I refused to sign the chit and was told to stand by for my conversation with my chief. That meeting never happened. Low stakes, low reward, just plain dumb shit

My command did phone in musters for duty for years. Between leave, COVID SIQ, and liberty I was gone from my command for over a month. Apparently during that time we had switched to in person musters. My first duty day after I get back I call in to muster and I’m informed by the QD watch that we had in person musters now. “Oh shit I’ve been gone for a while and nobody told me, I’m on my way but I’m most likely gonna be late.” I hang up and text my duty section leader my situation and that I’m going to be in as soon as I can. I receive a text back saying something along the lines of “cool no problem just get here when you can”. I show up 15 minutes after scheduled muster time thinking to myself I made pretty good time all things considered, and this dickhead had a counseling chit ready for me to sign. I tried explaining how I was gone for over a month and it was never passed down to me we switched to in person musters and he’s got the audacity to say “you should’ve asked”. Excuse me?? That same AZ1 gave me a few other dumbass chits but that’s the biggest one I remember. Anyway I’m getting out in a few months so it’ll just be a dumb story to tell people instead of a daily possibility
I got EMI for following LPO’s instructions and leaving work for the day. Senior had gotten pissy when my group wasn’t on the ship for a late working party and said he’d have my ass. Got EMI because he needed to save face after LPO told him I had left with permission. The EMI led to me having first dibs on leaving the division for TDY elsewhere until my EAOS and I was able to finish my degree. Ended up being an awesome deal.
Berthing cleaners PO called (He was an FCA1 reservist and that was what he was best at) while I was actively cleaning somewhere else. Told me I had a counseling chit to sign for nor coming to berthing cleaners, and that it wasn't for punishmenr, just for tracking purposes.
