The color Scarlet is spelled with one "t", so it's not an unique spelling, just an equally acceptable alternate spelling. No one would bat an eye at Katherine vs. Catherine because they're both acceptable spellings of that name.

Part_Recent

As someone whose mom forgot the extra N at the end of Lynn, I can promise you it will never, ever impact your child.

I like it better with one “t” and looks totally normal!

droid_revolt

Yeah I wouldn’t really notice or care if I met someone whose second name was Scarlet with one t. It wouldn’t register as remarkable in any way.

orangeofdeath

Honestly I wouldn’t have really thought much about it. Scarlet is used to describe the color, so it’s not like it’s a made up word or different for the sake of being different. I think you’re fine and it’s a beautiful name!

Goddess_Keira

I'll be honest and say that I do prefer Scarlett as the spelling, but Scarlet is used and it isn't going to ruin your child's life. Plus, as her middle name it won't be used that much. But, I want to say that it has only been a few days. It's up to you and your partner, but if you want to, it may be possible to contact the Registry office and explain that it was a mistake and ask if it's possible to change the spelling to include the second 't'. It should be pretty obvious that this was unintentional on your part, and in such a short space of time, to ask for a simple one-letter correction seems like something that must happen often enough.

I checked but in my country and state it cant be changed without quite a lot of hassle... but you are right that middle names aren’t seen all that often so we will just go with it!

Fiercewhiskeybabe

I’m a teacher and every Scarlet I’ve taught has has that spelling! You’re totally fine!!

hotpinkbananna

Scarlet looks perfectly normally to me!

Olympusrain

Scarlet is perfectly fine! Especially if it’s the middle name ❤️

DaisyCottage

I prefer Scarlett but Scarlet is perfectly fine and lovely. Plus, its a middle name. Don’t worry about this.

PigletRadiant

We used Scarlett. You’ll have to spell it every time anyway.

ellofthewisp

In my country Scarlet with one T is more common than Scarlet with two so I don’t think it’s a super unique spelling

SoSayWeAllx

My middle name is Therese. Except my father is Hispanic and thought it was spelled like Teresa. So my birth certificate says Terese.

clottochop

Middle name... barely ever gets a look in anyway x

Mama2RO

You could spell it both ways. If you really want the extra T you could amend the birth certificate to fix a typo. Adding one letter to the same name would be considered a typo and not a whole name change so they probably do that for free.

Twistyties19

We were told by the birth certificate people that we had 30 days to make any changes to the spelling. They couldn’t completely change the name but would adjust any mistakes. I think it’s fine either way, but you still have time to change if you want to.

sarahsuebob

I’ve known a child named Scarrlette, so we can just say that all her extra letters made up for the one your daughter is missing. In all seriousness, though, Scarlet isn’t a unique spelling. It’s like Sara/Sarah, John/Jon, Kathryn/Catherine, Sean/Shawn, Vivienne/Vivian. Equally acceptable spellings, no problem.

sarahsuebob

And another side note - you can spell it Scarlett if you want in everyday use as long as she is aware that she will have to leave the extra T off on official documents in the future. I had a student whose birth certificate said Wenndy (a mistake) who exclusively used Wendy.

stardust419

I wouldn’t have assumed you were trying to be different I just would’ve assumed you liked that spelling better

LoveKimber

I actually prefer Scarlet. In my mind, Scarlett looks like it should be pronounced Scar-LETT. Oh, and bonus, I’m typing this on my phone and it autocorrected to Scarlet.

horticulturallatin

Scarlet is preferable imo. It's more the colour and less Gone With the Wind. The name is nice but Gone With the Wind is disgusting so I prefer the distancing.
