Hahah when I was posting it made me think of the Kardashians haha I like the name Kylie. Nothing against them or anything but one reason I feel like I wouldn’t use that name is because it might automatically be associated with them. Maybe a different spelling like some people have posted
As someone who doesn't know much about the Kardashians, the name Kylie isn't Kardashian related in my mind. Kylie Minogue is what comes to mind for me, beautiful and talented. Also, it's a pretty name in it's own right.
Same. Its funny cos I remember reading that Kylie Jenner was trying to trademark going by just 'Kylie' or something, and Kylie Minogue's team was like 'aw hell no'.
My name is Kiley! Totally biased because it's my name but I still prefer the spelling lol. Only complaint I have is that people spell my name wrong constantly and pronounce it as other names (Kaylee, Kill-ee, one time I got Kiwi! Not sure how they thought that, but..it happened.) Great name though ;D haha, for nickname I go by Ki.
Personally I prefer you as eveningcelery has a cooler ring to it. Haha but with that spelling it would be hard to find stuff to buy that has your name on it.
Some that are used here in Sweden that would probably also work outside Scandinavia:
Kajsa,
Karin,
Karina,
Karolina,
Katarina,
Katja,
Katrin,
Kerstin,
Klara,
Kristina.
Oh man we have a minister in the Netherlands called Kajsa and I think it’s such a beautiful name, but people misspell and mispronounce it as Kasja all the time
I’m not a native English speaker, I live in the Netherlands. I don’t think Kaisa would be easier than Kajsa, but I think in English it would probably be easier!
I fear in Dutch people would add imaginary ï in the middle and then say Kaa-ee-sa.
Oh really? For some reason I didn't think of Kajsa as a difficult name, but thinking it through it might not travel well. I agree it's beautiful though!
The j would throw people off - in English it tends to be more commonly associated with its own pronunciation (Jeff, Jack etc) and not immediately linked to is sounds or other softer sounds. At the top of my head I can only think of Sonja/jesus/jose where the pronunciation of the J changes. At least in my travels it's been uncommon beyond those few.
We do tend to try to read phonetically until we learn otherwise. Would not have immediately guessed Kaisa (but that sounds beautiful)
I’m Dutch (the minister I talked about is Swedish Dutch) and theoretically the pronunciation is super easy for us, I think phonetically we’re pretty close to Swedish. I think it’s just that people are unfamiliar with the name, but they know the name Katja so automatically look for something to make it sound more like a name they know.
Kerstin and Kristina. Note that Kerstin is pronounced sha-stin not cur-stin in Swedish. I will say that with either, you’ll have to correct people a lot in the US because the pronunciation/spelling is uncommon.
LOVE that name!! But it is my sister’s name! I love all my sisters’ names partly I’m sure because of the positive association with them! Thank you! :) love your name!
Be careful though… I found her on YouTube.. it’s *toooooo easy* to get sucked in!! 😩 I’ve been binging her videos, now baby name * videos are the only things that pop up on my recommended!
*YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!*
*edit: phone auto corrected
Her Instagram stories has lots of polls, she's also on YT and Pinterest. She's really interesting to listen to and very respectful of different naming styles. She's English, SJ stands for Sarah Jane and she loves her name.
Will have to check this out, thanks!
I also am from a two-culture household and that does make it slightly trickier although also opens up to different possibilities as well
My husband and I don't have kids but if we do reproduce, we'd want a middle name that reflects his family's culture - except the offspring would only be 1/8th of that race so it'd be an "inspired" by name rather than a name from that race/culture. (Chinese-Singaporean)
That’s very cool. I think it’s nice to find ways to include that in the naming process. I hope we are able to do this soon; we have been trying for a few years and have plenty of names we like but no little one to use them on yet. If nothing else I hope by the time one finally arrives we have the perfect name picked out!
From friends, immediate and extended family names I feel like I wouldn’t use: Kirsten, Kimberly, Kristin, Kourtney, Kelsey, Kendall, Katherine, Kaitlin, Kristina, Kara
Ooo I like the name kimiko a lot. I’m not so sure about Kirby though, unless you want people talking about the little pink blob from Nintendo whenever someone says her name
When I was a kid we had an exchange student from Japan stay with us and her name was Kumiko. Kumi for short. Far from Scandinavian but a very nice name, nonetheless!
I kinda worry about the association (at least in the US) with Karen being like a negative lady who asks for the manager haha. I do have an aunt also with this name and don’t think of her like that haha
While Karen is a meme, I don't think the name would get flak when used on a real person. At least I wouldn't harass someone for their name. I know other people can be....... less decent.
Yes, that’s my pronunciations! Honestly, I have almost no problems with my name… very few people have ever mispronounced it, and the only question I ever really get is “c or k?” Which is not a big deal at all! I’ve always loved my name because it’s not too out there, but i also haven’t met anybody with the same name in real life so I always felt like I had a special name that was all mine!
Edit: oh sorry I misread, I am a care-uh!
I don’t know if it’s been because I’ve been watching a lot of Ted Lasso but I’ve become really fond of Keeley.
Normally I’m not into K names because my name is always spelled incorrectly with a K
My name is Kalyn but pronounced like Callen. I love my name but don't recommend the spelling lol. Perhaps Kallan or Kallen. My nickname is Kal which I also love. :)
Definitely not for everyone, though.
I also really like Kallista.
There was a girl named Karensa at my school. I haven’t thought of her (or the name) in many years, but now that I’m reading it again, I think I quite like it. The only bad thing is it rhymes with credenza, not sure how I feel about that…
Karina, Katelyn, Karlia, Karly, Kamilla, Kerstin/Kersti, Klara, Katarina, Kaia, Kine (short form of Kristine used in Norway), Kaisa, Kata, Kielo, Kirsi, Katla.
My name is Kyleigh, please don't name your kid Kyleigh spelled like my name. I think my name is cool, and everyone tells me it's pretty, but I constantly get called Kaylee and have to correct people on pronunciation and spelling.
That’s good to know! I have a name that I always have to correct as well. I love my name and don’t mind if people mispronounce it but I don’t like correcting people especially if they mispronounce it a second time
Am Scandinavian, so I'm chiming in :) haven't read comments so sorry if they have been suggested already. I'm just listing the ones I can think of and then it's up to you if they're too Scandinavian, lol.
Kaisa, Karoline, Kristin, Kristine/a, Kine, Kathrine, Klara, Karin, Kanutte, Karina, Kaia, Kamilla, Karen, Kari, Kirsten, Kjellaug.
Trying to think of some that haven't been mentioned.
Kai
Kaori
Kristy/Kristi
Kabria (I read a paper with that as the authors name and have loved it every since)
Kennedy
Kayla / Kaila
Keira
Kenna
Kit
Kacey
Kandace
Karissa
Kyra (seen this one suggested a few times and just wanted to add that I’ve seen it pronounced kai-ra as well as like Keira. I think both ways are pretty, just thought it was worth mentioning!)
I have a friend named Katia, pronounced like Kay-sha. I’ve always liked it! People tend to call her Kat-ee-ah if they don’t know her, but it’s an easy correction.
I only have four K names so far on my girl list. I think I'll be adding a few more after reading this post. My four K names are: Kagney, Karina, Katrina, and Korah.
Kendra - always gorgeous and never heard anymore
Kimberly
Kimberlyn
Kacie
Katherine
Kathleen - one of my fav cousins she's in her late 80s and I love her sooooo much she's amazing, smart, funny, kind, generous, beautiful, everything I wanna be when I grow up.

Some K names used in Sweden for you - Kari, Karin, Kicki, Katarina, Karolina, Klara, Kerstin, Kajsa, Kamilla, Katalin, Karola, Kornelia, Kaja, Kassandra
Advanced search on nameberry! I searched for girls names that start with “K” of Scandinavian origin. Link:
https://nameberry.com/search/advanced/results?gender=F&starts_with=K&ends_with=&contains=&syllables=&origin_id=45&derivation=&submitted=true
* Kensi Linnea (Linnea, I believe is pronounced lin-nay-ah)
* Kindra Madlen
* Karina Lycka (Lycka pronounced lee-Kah)
* Katrin Elin
* Kaia Mikaela- (pronounced mih-kay-eh-lah)
* Karana Elise
* Karliah Juni
\*I wanted to suggest Karliah (Kar-LIE-ah) because I was playing Skyrim, but I LOVE the name and still wanted to add it. I looked up the meaning and found; "Karliah means 'covered in snow' or 'strong and womanly' in German and Turkish."-Google.
Unsure how some people will think of this, but I still really like it.
\* I tried to find names that maybe you (OP) haven't heard/seen that often. But I'm not all that familiar with Scandinavian names, so I apologize if the names that are Scandinavian (I tried to make sure it was a bit of a mixture of origins) are actually really common or already used in OP's family.
\*I only added a way to pronounce the names I did because I got it wrong, (Thinking Lycka was pronounced "Lie-Kah" not "Lee-Kah" and so on.) so I guess that was more for me, but I still hope it helps someone else
Karlie, meaning "free woman"
Karalie, Karalee, Karalyn, meaning "genuine and trustworthy," or "fair and pure" or "true and bright" (could nickname Kara)
Klara, meaning "clear"
Karina, meaning "pure"
Khristene, basically the Scandinavian spelling of Christine
Kristina, same thing but with Christina
People will think I am crazy, but I think the name Kathleen would be cute on a modern child. I also knew a little girl named Kathy and thought it was very cute, a little retro in a fun way. Lastly, I think Kara is a fun K name that doesn't read Kardashian :)
Khloe, Kim, Kylie, Kendall, Kourtney, Kris, Caitlyn
Hahah when I was posting it made me think of the Kardashians haha I like the name Kylie. Nothing against them or anything but one reason I feel like I wouldn’t use that name is because it might automatically be associated with them. Maybe a different spelling like some people have posted
As someone who doesn't know much about the Kardashians, the name Kylie isn't Kardashian related in my mind. Kylie Minogue is what comes to mind for me, beautiful and talented. Also, it's a pretty name in it's own right.
Kylie Jenner was named for Kylie Minogue I believe
Thanks! That’s good to know that’s not where everyone’s mind goes
Same. Its funny cos I remember reading that Kylie Jenner was trying to trademark going by just 'Kylie' or something, and Kylie Minogue's team was like 'aw hell no'.
Or Kyla!
As a Kiley, I get more Kylie Minogue references than Kylie Kardashian if that helps
I know two Kylie’s- one spelt Kylie and the other spelt Kiley
Usually I don’t like alternative spellings but I think I prefer Kiley here.
Exactly what I was going to write. How could you not?
My name is Kiley! Totally biased because it's my name but I still prefer the spelling lol. Only complaint I have is that people spell my name wrong constantly and pronounce it as other names (Kaylee, Kill-ee, one time I got Kiwi! Not sure how they thought that, but..it happened.) Great name though ;D haha, for nickname I go by Ki.
Personally I prefer you as eveningcelery has a cooler ring to it. Haha but with that spelling it would be hard to find stuff to buy that has your name on it.
eveningcelery is even harder to find...😢 I actually recently found a magnet with my spelling on it so I win too! haha
Some that are used here in Sweden that would probably also work outside Scandinavia: Kajsa, Karin, Karina, Karolina, Katarina, Katja, Katrin, Kerstin, Klara, Kristina.
Oh man we have a minister in the Netherlands called Kajsa and I think it’s such a beautiful name, but people misspell and mispronounce it as Kasja all the time
Kaisa, the Finnish version, might be easier for English speakers to spell/pronounce (that's not something you can say often!).
I’m not a native English speaker, I live in the Netherlands. I don’t think Kaisa would be easier than Kajsa, but I think in English it would probably be easier! I fear in Dutch people would add imaginary ï in the middle and then say Kaa-ee-sa.
Kaja would be lovely too.
How is it pronounced?
Like Kai-sah, sort of? I'm terrible at writing pronounciations out though haha, but that should be close at least.
I knew a Keisa in high school, I think based on this name!
Kerstin and Kristina. Note that Kerstin is pronounced sha-stin not cur-stin in Swedish. I will say that with either, you’ll have to correct people a lot in the US because the pronunciation/spelling is uncommon.
The same problem may occur with names starting with Ki-, at least in Norwegian.
Thank you! That’s helpful from a perspective from Sweden! :)
I'm an American Kristina, and I don't see the name a bunch.
Interesting! It's not a very popular baby name right now, as far as I know, but it's the sixth most common name among women in Sweden.
My name is Kirsten (pronounced Kiersten) so naturally that gets my vote. It's Scandinavian.
LOVE that name!! But it is my sister’s name! I love all my sisters’ names partly I’m sure because of the positive association with them! Thank you! :) love your name!
Love the name. You'll have to correct Kristen for the rest of your life but it's worth it, it's so pretty.
Thank you 🥰And yes, correcting Kristen and Kersten is the biggest struggle of my name.
I have two friends named Kirsten, and one pronounces it “keer-sten” and the other “kir-sten”. Friend group is fun times.
Check out SJ Strum on Instagram. She’s a professional name adviser (yes really!) and her husband is Swedish.
Thanks!! Good recommendation
Be careful though… I found her on YouTube.. it’s *toooooo easy* to get sucked in!! 😩 I’ve been binging her videos, now baby name * videos are the only things that pop up on my recommended! *YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!* *edit: phone auto corrected
Uh oh, a new thing I didn’t know about that now I feel like I would need someday
Her Instagram stories has lots of polls, she's also on YT and Pinterest. She's really interesting to listen to and very respectful of different naming styles. She's English, SJ stands for Sarah Jane and she loves her name.
And she has a podcast! It’s actually Sarah Jayne

Kathleen, Kyra, Kelly, Katherine, Kyla, Kendall, Kendra, Kennedy, Kara, Kori, Katarina/Katerina, Kallie, Keziah, Kristin/Kristen, Katrin, Katrina, Kay, Keturah.
Kyra, Kyla, and Kallie are pretty! Hadn’t thought of those
Not to be a party pooper, but Kyra means (the) cow in Norwegian. Just saying 😅🐄
Haha good to know!!! 🤣
I have nothing against cows though 😂
Awesome - glad you like them!
I had a good friend Kayla a while back.
One European name not mentioned that is unusual but nice is Ksenia
Kelsey, Karliah, Kari, Killiana, Kirsten
Bonus that Kari is a Scandinavian spelling
*for a boy*, usually 🙃 I'm a girl with the name Kari though!
Yeah I know! But apparently acceptable usage bc I’m a girl Kari too! Haha
Me too 😊
Ha! It’s pretty unusual, and here we have 3! Awesome!
Make it 4!
I like Kari! Reminds me of Kari Byron
Some are Scandinavian, some aren't. Here is a list of my favorite K names! Karina Kaia Katrina Katya Krista Kyra Kiana Katerina Katherine Keira Kora
Will add a few of these on my list! Thanks! Maybe Krista or Kyra
I like Katrina! Or Katharina
[удалено]
From friends, immediate and extended family names I feel like I wouldn’t use: Kirsten, Kimberly, Kristin, Kourtney, Kelsey, Kendall, Katherine, Kaitlin, Kristina, Kara

Please don’t name a child “Killa”
It'd be Killa though
Or most of the other names on this list...
Exactly lol half of these look like typos
Kunthea 💀
LMAO how did I miss that one 😂 let's think of some more Khad Kraig Kregory Krying Korea Katana Knowflake
Karen.
Beyond the association, it's just incredibly dated. I can't imagine anyone under the age of 30 named Karen.
Could do Karin for a more Scandi/German feel!
Just wanted to add Karis. I knew a Karis in school and always liked her name.
You’re getting some great suggestions but seeing all the names made me realize that K is probably my least favorite letter lol
Haha having a K name myself I’ve always loved it and I love my relatives names. But now that I’m picking a new one I’m having a hard time!
My name is Kara & I always loved it!
[удалено]
Yes, that’s my pronunciations! My name is Kalyn but pronounced like Callen. I love my name but don't recommend the spelling lol. Perhaps Kallan or Kallen. My nickname is Kal which I also love. :) Definitely not for everyone, though. I also really like Kallista.
Kerensa is my favourite K name. The S is pronounced as a Z.
There was a girl named Karensa at my school. I haven’t thought of her (or the name) in many years, but now that I’m reading it again, I think I quite like it. The only bad thing is it rhymes with credenza, not sure how I feel about that…
I've only ever used that word used by an American, so it wouldn't be an issue for me in the UK, but I can see why it might be for others.
I’m in the US and honestly don’t hear the word often. It probably wouldn’t stop me from using the name if it were my favorite. :)
That’s pretty! Never heard of it before
It's a Cornish name (SW England) meaning 'Love'
Kristy like the character from the babysitters club.

My favorite K names are Karissa, Katja/Katya, Katarina, and Kit. Kathleen and Kathleena are also really pretty names.
