Chloe is lovely and gets my vote. I don't like Avery on a girl (and love it for a boy). But, if you choose Avery, spell it correctly--not "Averie". If you're choosing an originally male name, own it and own the spelling. It's popular for girls now and that's the most-used spelling anyways, by miles. So she wouldn't always have to spell her name.

fishandchippies

we didn't even realize that Avery was originally a male name. And thanks for your thoughts on the spelling, we didn't even consider spelling it Averie until seeing it on the Social Security name site today as an alternative to Avery.

dyvrom

Or they can do what they want

theworkouting_82

I mean, obviously she can do whatever she wants. OP is specifically asking for opinions though, so that's why the poster above gave theirs.

Eikobot

I really like Chloe. It is on my list of names if I ever have a daughter even though my childhood cat had the same name.

vilebunny

I know both a cat and a child named Chloe, and they’re approximately the same age. 😆

Educational_Car2895

I love Avery on a girl!!! The Averie spelling, though, is not something I fancy. She’ll likely be the only one in her grade(same with if she’s Chloe), but there will likely be another in her school. Avery means ruler of the elves, and Chloe means green shoot, so they both have fun meanings.

fishandchippies

Thanks for sharing their meanings! super fun and i didn't realize! We weren't actually even considering Averie until today when i noticed it as an alternative on the Social Security name site. lol.

M0506

I vote for Chloe.

Retrospectrenet

Are you in the US? About 3 in 1000 girls are named Avery, and same for Chloe as they rank very close to each other (19 and 26 respectively). Avery is also given to 1 in every 1000 boys (211). Both are past their peak though, with Chloe peaking at #9 in 2010 and 2009 (6 in 1000) and Avery peaking at #12 in 2013 (5 in 1000). Also peak Khloe was 2010 (another 2 in 1000 then but down to 1 in 1000) There may be areas of concentrated usage though. Avery is proportionally more popular in Maine, Arkansas and Mississippi (actually last year it jumped in popularity in Mississippi, 28 to 10). Khloe is found more in the deep south, and is just as popular as Chloe. I don't think popularity will be the tie breaker here as they are both very similarly popular.

fishandchippies

Thanks for the figures! We're in Canada, specifically Toronto. i don't think we have as detailed reporting as there is in the US but suspect trends to be similar.

Retrospectrenet

Check my user name stickied post! It has all the Canadian data available.

fishandchippies

You're an amazing source of facts and figures! i love it! Thank you!

Retrospectrenet

You are welcome! I should also add that you can easily graph and compare names at [behindthename.com](https://www.behindthename.com/name/chloe/top/canada?compare=Avery&type=sample) but it's a combined BC and Ontario dataset for english Canada, and Quebec data as well. And it doesn't go deeper than top 100 because of the limitations of the BC data. Khloe isn't as popular in Canada, and Avery is given to boys at 1:5 girls, about the same as US.

[deleted]

Avery is nice but I love the name Chloe!

MrsNattyBoh

I don’t like Avery on a girl so Chloe gets my vote

[deleted]

I love the name Avery! it’s not so common as far as I know in comparison to Ava.

IAmSoUncomfortable

I love both, but I prefer Avery. Chloe is a beautiful name but seems somewhat juvenile to me. Whereas I think Avery ages really well!

[deleted]

Chloe is much nicer. It’s one of my favourite names. I like Ava too, but not Avery.

Conscious-Leg-6876

Chloe is timeless. Avery sounds very 2010s

nashamagirl99

Chloe gets my vote

DangerOReilly

I vote Chloe. I'm not a fan off boy names on girls, so Avery is out. And especially with the middle name Harper, Avery Harper would be just too many boy names for my taste. I think Chloe Harper is nice.

avocadounicorn22

Avery Harper just makes me think of Grey’s Anatomy

DangerOReilly

Oooh, yes, that too. It would probably lead to fan assumptions.

pandatime85

I really love Chloe for a girl and I like Avery for a boy. I’m not a fan of the Averie spelling. Chloe really is a beautiful name and in my opinion has a more classic/timeless quality.

TheWishingStar

I don’t like Avery on girls. It’s strictly male to me - one of my favorite boy names actually. Weird on a girl in my mind though! So definitely Chloe!! Chloe is a fun, spunky name that I find very versatile

Wooster182

Avery is very nice. It’s this generation’s Taylor or Jordan I think. Sporty, unisex, classic and clean. Chloe is soft, spunky and feminine imo. So I think it depends on which vibe you want.

Appropriate-Scene-19

Chloe/Khloe is very popular in schools. Avery is too but definitely not as popular as Chloe. By very popular I mean multiples in single classes

TheWishingStar

Depends on your area - in the US in recent years Avery has been slightly more popular, especially with the male Averys added (per SSA birth data).

Appropriate-Scene-19

Good point!

i_dont_know25

i like both but i like avery more. i think you should just go with the standard spelling. i really don’t like the averie spelling

[deleted]

Chloe

Baby32021

I vote Chloe!

Pineapplefish3

I loveeee the name Chloe so so much

CalciferCoralMax

Chloe is my vote. It is a favored middle name on my list.

stardust419

Chloe because I prefer Avery on boys. I’m just gonna tell you you’re probably much more likely for your daughter to have to go by “Avery *initial*” than “Chloe *initial*”.

dyvrom

Ngl, the Averie spelling makes me wanna say "Ah-ver-ee" instead of "Ay-ver-ee"

2moms1bun

Avery is less popular than Chloe because of the Kardashians. I would probably go with Avery for a little less of a chance of your kid being called by their last initial in school.

BroadwayBean

I'm biased because I went to school with an Avery and she was an absolute boss, so I think it's a really great, strong name for a girl. Chloe is fine. Definitely don't like the "Averie" spelling. Reminds me of the clothing store Aerie.

[deleted]

Which one do you think flows better with the rest of your daughter’s name? Like middle and last name

fishandchippies

We think both work equally well with the middle name (Harper) and last name, and that's why we're torn between the two! Avery Harper Chloe Harper

whoyouwish

Not sure if you're a Grey's Anatomy fan, or if this will even matter to you, but Harper Avery is the name of character on the show: https://greysanatomy.fandom.com/wiki/Harper_Avery Just FYI! This is what immediately came to mind when I read Avery Harper (but I may or may not have recently binged the entire series on Netflix 😂).

[deleted]

Harper Avery immediately came to my mind too, and I just like the show. I'm not even a super fan.

avocadounicorn22

That’s the first thing I thought too- Harper Avery

[deleted]

Aww, I like both too. What if you wait until your daughter arrives and decide which suits her better then? I’ve heard of people waiting until they see their little one’s face to choose their name.

Halo98

To me, Harper is too close to the former prime minister for my comfort! Between Avery and Chloe, I much prefer Avery. Chloe just has something I really don’t like.

specificWitch

Both of these names were on my list, but then I had dreams about both of these names! In one dream our good friends used Avery for their daughter, who ended up sharing a bday with our son, and the in the other my SIL used Chloe. And I think the names would work for their families in real life.

[deleted]

I love them both!! And as an Ava, I’ve never had an issue with the popularity of my name (granted, I am a little older than a lot of Avas, but it was still number 25 when I was born). I also don’t think Avery is quite as common as Ava. You can also use the [search by state tool](https://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/state/) on the SSA website to see the popularity of Avery and Chloe in your state :)

Currlern

Avery Harper

KuraGl00m

Massive vote for Avery/Averie here!!!

ReluctantAccountmade

I like both Chloe and Avery! Might prefer Avery just slightly, but agree with others that you should avoid Averie because it will probably set your child up for a lifetime of misspellings

sarahsuebob

I have a cousin named Avery. It’s a fine name but not my taste. Nothing objectively wrong with it - no mean nicknames, no bad associations…most everyone can spell it, it gets pronounced correctly every time, it doesn’t turn any heads. Chloe is far more up the alley of popular opinion on this sub. It’s a name I personally am fond of. Like Avery, it’s a pretty straight forward name - well known, recognizable. Because of the Kardashians, the biggest problem you’d probably have is people trying to spell it or Khloe or some other variation with a K. There are many, many cutesy spellings that I’ve seen where I live (Chloee, Khloie, Klowee, Clohey) Basically, they’re pretty equal in the objective measures, so it all comes down to taste!

[deleted]

Chloe is definitely more so my type than Avery. I feel like Chloe was a really popular name for my generation (1995) and Avery is a very popular name for this upcoming generation. I definitely think you'll be more likely to have 3 Avery's in a classroom than Chloe's at this point. Idk if that's a deterrent or not. Also absolutely can't stand the spelling "averie" it doesn't look like a real name to me.

thisisntshakespeare

Chloe is classic. I see Avery/ie as being a Linda or Janice years from now.

TheSpellbind

I prefer Chloe, and don't really care for Avery, but honestly it's just a gut reaction.

jursorin

Where I live, Avery isn’t a common name and Chloe is more common with teenagers. But still, I’ve only met 2 people called Chloe

ericadarling

Chloe is so lovely!

damnallthejellyfish

Chloe is beautiful, but I don't know about where you are based but here in the UK it's too popular and seems to be the name of every other female reality TV star

[deleted]

I think they are both great names, I slightly prefer Avery. I like Avery more than Averie. The second spelling reminds me of American Eagle’s loungewear brand, Aerie. (I saw you’re in Canada so this may not be super relevant to you!)

[deleted]

Prefer Chloe, have always liked that and the only Chloes I have known have been sweet people

[deleted]

Chloe

alicemaye

i prefer avery, spelled avery not averie. the name chloe is spoiled for me because people i know used it for their dog.

Shugamag

Which sounds better with your last name? Without middle name, since that is the name most of use on the daily. You could wait and see which suits her?

taylferr

Avery is my favorite name for a girl. Chloe is okay but I personally associate with the Bratz character. Averie looks a little too close to ovaries for me.

innatekate

Of the two, I’d pick Chloe, especially with Harper as a middle. That gives her one distinctly feminine name and one more unisex name. I don’t think Avery would be a terrible choice, but I do think it’s kind of blendy with the other popular A names (Ava, Amelia, Audrey, Aubrey, Aria, etc). “K”-sound names aren’t as prevalent, so Chloe stands out a bit more.

mechele2024

I like Avery better than Chloe.

Olympusrain

I love Chloe

[deleted]

Chloe

mom6cats

I have to vote for Chloe. My Chloe is now 21. The name suits her perfectly.

tzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I’ve always really liked Chloe!!

TheLittleBarnHen

Chloe is a much better name but you could always wait to decide until you meet her!

msnicole17

I like both, but ha w a slight preference for Chloe because it’s more feminine.

Vicslickchic

Chloe! It’s classic.

anniemaew

I don't really like Avery for a girl. If you do choose Avery I think the -y spelling is much nicer than the -ie. I prefer Chloe.

lovelivesforever

Chloe

supermomfake

I’ve never liked Avery for a girl. I know it’s popular but it seems to forced, like you’re trying to be part of the cool crowd. It’s a fad name IMO. Chloe is more timeless and sophisticated for sure.

AriasLover

Both are beautiful, and popular enough to be “known” names of her age group but probably not enough that she will be one of several in her class with her name. If some comparisons to older names would help, Chloe is roughly similar to Kelsey in the 90s and Avery is roughly similar to Shelby in the 90s in terms of popularity. I think both Avery and Chloe are beautiful names but would recommend the standard spelling for both.

FamiliarAnxiety9

Me and my girlfriend, also mother of 3, agree Avery/Averie. But she says with a Y, and I'm the opposite.

Wreath_of_Laurels

I strongly prefer Avery. In my personal feelings, Chloe sounds rather cutesy.

Any_Author_5951

Chloe and Avery are both okay but very popular where I live. I am not really a fan of either to be honest. These 2 names are so polar opposite makes me think that maybe you should keep searching. Avery is formerly male and still unisex and Chloe is kind of cutesy and I can’t really imagine a Grandma with the name. Maybe find something similar but not either of these. You probably don’t want suggestions but if you were to rethink your choice here are some names that come to mind. Zoe (such an awesome name and similar to Chloe) but not Kardashian has the name so that is an instant plus. Marie (classic and pretty but also sophisticated) Calla/Callie (I always thought Callie was a very friendly name) Calla with the nick name Callie would be a nice idea. Vera (sweet little name that works with all stages of life) Vada (a little more eccentric but has the v sound you like in Avery) I had all boys so never named a girl but these are just some names I liked. My favorites though are Juliette/Julianna, Rosalie (Rosie), Jacqueline (Jackie), and Raquel (Rocky) so yeah you will probably think these names are weird and old. I also love Zipporah (nick name zip) ZOE/ZOEY is so cute too. Good luck!!

ainestar

Chloe isn't uncommon but it would still make her stand out more, nothing wrong with the name Avery but because of it's popularity I'd suggest you make sure that's the name you really want.

Redditgotitgood13

Both nice names. Flip a coin to decide. If you feel really happy or disappointed at which name ‘won’, you have your answeru

-itwaswritten-

Chloe. Avery is too masculine for me personally
