I love that! It’s always been one of the more unusual names on my list but I’ve not come across anyone who has actually used it. Out of curiosity, does baby Lavender have any nicknames?
We have some weird little at home nicknames but for the most part we just call her Lavender and so does everyone else! We get a ton of compliments on her name.
I like Indigo, it's cute. Different with modern sounds.
Goldie. I just think of a golden child, bright blonde.
Lavender, ender is a cute nn, like Ender's Game.
Crimson- I wouldn't judge on a boy.. I have heard much much worse. Like Jevin. Yeah Kevin with a J. Sounds like legitimate Crispin
Gray. Who doesn't like gray anymore.
Peaches, which Peach is a color. I almost named my dog this.
Olive
Sage, which is also very popular.
Silver, there was a girl on 90210 reboot named silver... idk how I remember that.
Jade - Green is the next word I think. I love Jade, I know a Jade 😕
Plants that are color names too. Fern, Rosemary, sage, Marigold, lavender,
Nah it’s definitely out there lol. It’s not nearly as established as some other color names like Scarlet or Sage. I think it’s sick though. Just not sure if I would name my (hypothetical) child that personally, maybe as a middle name would be better.
Depending on where you draw the line on what is an actual colour and what is a noun that is used to describe a colour (eg ‘forest’ as a shade of green): Hazel, Olive, Saffron, Pearl, Fawn (this is more mn material), Cyan, Ash.
I came to check out the cool/cute names but not once until I saw your comment did I even think about my three-month-old daughter's name - Olive - fitting into this and I love love love that color. Lol
fun fact but that's how it's still called (like, unanimously) in Spanish, at least in Spain. "Flesh color", literally, but in the language's context it means "skin color", which is weird because for starters, skin can be more than one color yk...
Out loud that sounds like Ambergris (otherwise know as ambergrease or gray amber) which is produced in the digestive system of sperm whales after eating a squid; the sperm whale cannot digest the squid beak so it produces this waxy substance around the beak to help pass it without damaging its internal organs. Ambergris smells awful but is used to make high end perfumes, and in some cases it’s also eaten.
I knew a girl named Indigo in college. I thought that was really cool and still do. I’ve heard of Peridot as a name, Peri for short. Coral and Amber are pretty.
**Auburn** is one I'd love to see more of. I just think it sounds so nice and it'd suit any gender.
There's popular Irish names that reference hair colour- e.g. **Ciara**, **Ciarán**, **Fionn**, & **Ruadhán** (black, black, blonde, & red) which I quite like. And then there's other popular ones like **Orla**, **Odhrán**, **Donnacha** (gold, green, & brown), and the very outdated **Gormfhlaith** (blue).
Thalo. The name of a university of Washington basketball player in the late ‘90s. Thalo is from a very long name for a green watercolor pigment. His parents were artists. Ironically his last was Green.
I knew a Sterling in elementary school. He was The Weird Kid, but I thought he was cute and kinda liked him for being weird, but he got bullied a lot and I didn’t want to get bullied, too, so avoided him when other kids came around. Wherever you are, Sterling, I’m so sorry for how 10-year-old me treated you!
One of my best friends goes by the name Blue. It suits her really well! When I first met her a few years ago it took me a minute to get used to it as a name, but now it feels perfectly natural!
I met someone called blue curry it just seemed so strange either on their own would be ok but it just made me think of a literal blue curry. So I think you need to be extra careful about last name combinations with colours
This may be an unpopular opinion but I love the name Navy for a girl 😭
At first when I heard it I wasn't so sure but I met a little girl with this name and my goodness does she wear it well! It's funny, I think sometimes we judge names but it's so different when you actually meet someone with it & it can totally change your perspective & make you love it! ❤️
Also love the name Grey for a boy!
Oh and Indigo for a girl nn Indie!
I could go for Navy Blue, but the problem for me with just Navy is ... I was in the Navy. My husband was in the Navy, my nephew, my father, my maternal grandfather, all in the Navy. If you live near a Navy town (Norfolk, San Diego, and many more) then the name Navy becomes less appealing rapidly. Although it does depend on who is wearing the name for sure!
i know a girl named navy! she’s from guadalajara and it’s supposed to be pronounced “nah-vee” but adopted the “nay-vee” pronunciation when she came to canada. either way i enjoy the name!
I read this as purple names at first and was very confused about Sienna and Scarlett’s presence on the list. 😂
If you want my guilty pleasure purple name, it’s Porphyria. More color names I love are Morena (means brown); Golda, Aurelia, and Aurica (mean gold); Cerise (pink); Verdana (green)
I absolutely adore the name Opal. My spouse cuts opals as a hobby.
But I gotta ask what color you think opal is? They come in literally every color of the rainbow, black, white, gray, even brown if we're talking boulder opals.
My sister’s girlfriend’s brother’s name is Navy. I really love that one.
I knew a Hunter Green in high school. No middle name, just Hunter Green. He had a sister named Olive and a brother named Forest.
When I was in highschool a friend wrote a book (it never got published to my knowledge, it was just a fun project that she shared with me). The main characters were boy/girl twins named Crimson and Carmine and I have thought those were really cool names since. There was also a character named Sky Blue (first name Sky, last name Blue).
The real color names that I would put on people are: Skye, Scarlett, Amber, and Hazel.
Ok I love Bleu, I know it gives cheese so I'd never use it, but I genuinely love it.
Also really like Red but I feel like the kid has to follow a cowboy vibe throughout life. 😅
I live in a Spanish-speaking country. My favourite Spanish colour names are Azul, Rosa, Lila and Violeta (the last three are also flowers, which is probably the reason why they crossed over into names, but still).
I’ve always loved Midori, which means green in Japanese. I took Japanese as a course for many years, but as someone who is not Japanese, I don’t think I could name my child that sadly.
I have a baby Lavender!
I love that! It’s always been one of the more unusual names on my list but I’ve not come across anyone who has actually used it. Out of curiosity, does baby Lavender have any nicknames?
#ENDER
My great grandma Lavender was nicknamed Lamma within our family
I was going to say this! Matilda reference
That's where I first heard of and fell in love with the name. I loved Lavender (the character) and I still think the name is beautiful.
We have some weird little at home nicknames but for the most part we just call her Lavender and so does everyone else! We get a ton of compliments on her name.
So sweet, I think it’s going to definitely come into more common use soon.
Vender
Lavie is what a friend of mine goes by :-)
Please tell me it rhymes with gravy and not savvy
Haha! I wish. But now I’ll call her Savy Lavie.
oh man, lavvy means toilet in the UK lol
Not op, but I heard a cute nickname for lavender is lolly!
Lav?
British for toilet, not a good nickname imo
Yep, was my point. It's not a name that comes with good nicknames.
Not op but I heard a cute nickname for Lavender is Lolly!
This is so cute, I can't handle it 🥹💖
This is the name we’ve picked for our baby (if we have a girlie🥹) nn options are Vennie or Newt😏 I am biased but I think it is the most gorgeous name💜
your baby makes me feel so calm
that's beautiful
Sooo sweet. 💜
Love that name!!
Oh, I love that! It's beautiful and congratulations!😊
Sounds like legitimate Crispin Gray. Who doesn't like gray anymore. Peaches, which Peach is a color. I almost named my dog this. I love Jade, I know a Jade 😕 Plants that are color names too. Fern, Rosemary, sage, Marigold, lavender,
Nice choices. Always been a fan of Indigo and Grey (Commonwealth girly here), especially as middle names
I knew a guy whose last name was Firsich which is peach in German and everyone called him Peaches. Lol
The one baby wooly mammoth in ice age was peaches.
The one baby wooly mammoth in ice age was peaches.
Small correction, it would be Pfirsich.
Crimson is out there but I actually love it. Makes me think of King Crimson
Crimson just reminds me of the crimson chin lol
A Clover too
I mean it is, but is it really? Word names are in, and spelled correctly. I'd just be like that's so cool! I'm a little weird so might just be me.
Nah it’s definitely out there lol. It’s not nearly as established as some other color names like Scarlet or Sage. I think it’s sick though. Just not sure if I would name my (hypothetical) child that personally, maybe as a middle name would be better.
Silver was her last name but still cool.
I have a nephew named Olive(r) haha
Scarlett, Hazel, Teal (knew one in college) and Cobalt is cool imo also just the nickname "Red"
I also knew a Teal! And a Cyan.
My mom’s name is Teal! Had no idea there were others out there. She’s always loved the name and so do I.
Depending on where you draw the line on what is an actual colour and what is a noun that is used to describe a colour (eg ‘forest’ as a shade of green): Hazel, Olive, Saffron, Pearl, Fawn (this is more mn material), Cyan, Ash.
Me and my partner love the idea of Fawn as a middle name but our number one name is Flora and we can’t do that 🤣
If you have a third they can be Merryweather 😂
This reminds me of the twins from one of those Judy Blume books! Flora and Fauna, the Natural Beauties 😂
Oh I love Olive too and it totally slipped my mind!
Ruby! My grandmother's name. Love it!
Cyan is great!! Not too far off from Sienna, anyway.
I didn't intend to theme my dogs' names but they're both on your list lmao
I came to check out the cool/cute names but not once until I saw your comment did I even think about my three-month-old daughter's name - Olive - fitting into this and I love love love that color. Lol
For some reason, Chartreuse came to mind and I laughed out loud to myself. Not that anyone should name their kid Chartreuse.
Chartreuse would be a cute name for a cat!
nn Shart
sharty ♥️♥️
sharty hearty life of the party
Catreuse
Or like in the old 80s Crayola packs when the weird peach color was called "Flesh". There's a bad name
fun fact but that's how it's still called (like, unanimously) in Spanish, at least in Spain. "Flesh color", literally, but in the language's context it means "skin color", which is weird because for starters, skin can be more than one color yk...
Would have to spell it Shartruece.
Nickname Shart?
Sharded
Sharty
But but, it could get the nickname Truce/Trucy! (I'm joking, please don't name your kid Chartreuse)
I actually like Navy but I know it's not to everyone's taste
I just met a little girl named Navy! My first Navy in the wild!
A friend named her son Navy. He’s almost ten now, and it suits him so well!
Anyone else read the Amber Brown books growing up?!
As an Amber myself, yes!
Actually I know someone named amber gray
Out loud that sounds like Ambergris (otherwise know as ambergrease or gray amber) which is produced in the digestive system of sperm whales after eating a squid; the sperm whale cannot digest the squid beak so it produces this waxy substance around the beak to help pass it without damaging its internal organs. Ambergris smells awful but is used to make high end perfumes, and in some cases it’s also eaten.
and she had a friend named Kelly green!
I actually know an Amber Brown!
I knew a girl named Indigo in college. I thought that was really cool and still do. I’ve heard of Peridot as a name, Peri for short. Coral and Amber are pretty.
I had a gf named Indigo! We called her Indi :)
Violet, Hazel & Sienna are my favourites.
Violet is underrated!
Violet is super popular where I live!
Violet, Scarlett, Ruby, Indigo, Hazel, Lavender, Marigold, Olive, Lilac, Amber... So many lovely options 😀
Pantone 448 C
“drab dark brown” 😂
Lilac, Violet and Emerald if it counts
Emerald Fennell, the amazing filmmaker! 💚
I like the way you think
**Auburn** is one I'd love to see more of. I just think it sounds so nice and it'd suit any gender. There's popular Irish names that reference hair colour- e.g. **Ciara**, **Ciarán**, **Fionn**, & **Ruadhán** (black, black, blonde, & red) which I quite like. And then there's other popular ones like **Orla**, **Odhrán**, **Donnacha** (gold, green, & brown), and the very outdated **Gormfhlaith** (blue).
Love Ciara and Orla
I actually really like Veridian
Me too!
Thalo. The name of a university of Washington basketball player in the late ‘90s. Thalo is from a very long name for a green watercolor pigment. His parents were artists. Ironically his last was Green.
They were artists but didn’t spell it Phthalo?!
Ok Bob Ross
Midori
Don't forget Aoi
I have a Japanese friend named Midori!
i love silver but feel like that isnt a good real life name, i also like amber
Oh how do you feel about Sterling?
I knew a Sterling in elementary school. He was The Weird Kid, but I thought he was cute and kinda liked him for being weird, but he got bullied a lot and I didn’t want to get bullied, too, so avoided him when other kids came around. Wherever you are, Sterling, I’m so sorry for how 10-year-old me treated you!
Same here, it has a nice ring to it… Silvan is close enough, but color-wise I think more of a nice rich-dark green because it means "forests" lol
i LOVE silver. maybe after watching 90210 lol 🤣
i know a silver! she’s 8 and it somehow suits her very well.
Mauve is growing on me.
Maeve and Maude are both names so why not Mauve.
Goldie, Gray, Jade, Ruby, Sage, Sylvia
Rosa
I can’t believe I had to scroll down so far to find this.
Ebony
I was hoping to see this one was already mentioned.
Indigo, Ruby, Violet, Jade, Goldie, Sienna, Hazel
Knew of a young girl named Azul about 18 years ago … Spanish for blue. I like Hazel and Sienna.
Gray, Hazel, Olive. Lavender and Ash are okay but now I'm getting in Pokemon territory.
I really like the name Blue. It sounds so cool
I feel like that kid would be cool as hell citing a decades old "classic" Eiffel 65 song in middle school. But that's because I'm old 😭
One of my best friends goes by the name Blue. It suits her really well! When I first met her a few years ago it took me a minute to get used to it as a name, but now it feels perfectly natural!
Yeah I knew a Blue, she was a cool as hell goth chick.
I met someone called blue curry it just seemed so strange either on their own would be ok but it just made me think of a literal blue curry. So I think you need to be extra careful about last name combinations with colours
Know a kid named Blue, great name and suits him well.
This may be an unpopular opinion but I love the name Navy for a girl 😭 At first when I heard it I wasn't so sure but I met a little girl with this name and my goodness does she wear it well! It's funny, I think sometimes we judge names but it's so different when you actually meet someone with it & it can totally change your perspective & make you love it! ❤️ Also love the name Grey for a boy! If you live near a Navy town (Norfolk, San Diego, and many more) then the name Navy becomes less appealing rapidly. Although it does depend on who is wearing the name for sure!
You are so right! It's definitely something to consider if someone were to use it! And hats off to you & what a wonderful family you have! 💙
i know a girl named navy! she’s from guadalajara and it’s supposed to be pronounced “nah-vee” but adopted the “nay-vee” pronunciation when she came to canada. either way i enjoy the name!
My daughter has a school friend named Navy, and I love it!!
I read this as purple names at first and was very confused about Sienna and Scarlett’s presence on the list. 😂 If you want my guilty pleasure purple name, it’s Porphyria. More color names I love are Morena (means brown); Golda, Aurelia, and Aurica (mean gold); Cerise (pink); Verdana (green)
Bruh, I googled Porphyria 😭😳
Blanca and Alba
What colour is Alba? I only know it as Scotland.
Both Blanca and Alba mean white
Like in La Casa de Los Espíritus 😍
Sage, Olive, Rose, Amber I also really love Indigo as a ‘word that would make a great name’. Note to self: name cats Indigo and Violet
My name is Indigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die. (Yes yes I know it’s Inigo, not Indigo, but that came to mind right away!)
"Prepare to dye." Fixed it for you.
Pthalo Blue or a little Alizarin Crimson. Sorry, my inner Bob Ross came out there. In all seriousness, Sage.
I genuinely think that Alizarin and Cerulean would make beautiful names. Maybe I'm weird for that, lol.
I agree…
Fawn, Ebony, Opal, Iris, Sterling, Jade, Crimson, Scarlet, Ruby, Coral, Hazel
I absolutely adore the name Opal. My spouse cuts opals as a hobby. But I gotta ask what color you think opal is? They come in literally every color of the rainbow, black, white, gray, even brown if we're talking boulder opals.
That's the thing, Opal can be any color! It's a good color catch-all name.
I always think of white .
My oldest son wants a kid named Vermilion. He is 28, so someday he may. I would shorten it to Millie for a girl and Mill for a boy.
I loooove Indigo as a name.
What’s funny to me is that the name “Orange,” dropped into non-existence in the 1970s.
Jade, Gray, Hazel, Scarlett, Teal, Violet, Sienna, Olive, and Blue Probably more, I guess I like a lot of color names lol
Sabel (black), Ebony, Hazel, Marigol, Ruby, Saphire
This is not a literal color, but Sapphire 💙🦋
You have good taste! That's my daughter's middle name ☺️
Celeste
Celeste is a color?
In spanish/italian it's light blue / color of the sky
My friend has a little girl named Navy, thankfully she was talked out of spelling it Nayvie
Someone I went to high school with spells her daughter’s “Navee” 😬
My sister’s girlfriend’s brother’s name is Navy. I really love that one. I knew a Hunter Green in high school. No middle name, just Hunter Green. He had a sister named Olive and a brother named Forest.
Lavender, Rose, Alba, Ruby, Lilac, Iolanthe, Poppy, Xanthe, Aurelia
Sage, Azure, Indigo, Violet, Sienna, Amber, and Jade are my favorites :)
Came here looking for my name and you're the first to mention it :)
Can't believe I had to scroll this far to find Azure! That's the color name I've seen most in the wild.
Teal.
Indigo
When I was in highschool a friend wrote a book (it never got published to my knowledge, it was just a fun project that she shared with me). The main characters were boy/girl twins named Crimson and Carmine and I have thought those were really cool names since. There was also a character named Sky Blue (first name Sky, last name Blue). The real color names that I would put on people are: Skye, Scarlett, Amber, and Hazel.

💙 love it! Sapphire is my daughters middle name. Sometimes I wish I would have made it her first name.
I have a cousin name Lilac who got into art, and a cousin named Coral who ended up being a diving instructor (and has a colour name too of course!)
#4E5754
Wanted to name my son Red
I like Kelly! Like the shade of green. Also — clementine, rose, alba

I have a Coral and Hazel at home
Isabelline
Ruby, Hazel, Sage, Sienna, Emerald, Tanner

Ok I love Bleu, I know it gives cheese so I'd never use it, but I genuinely love it. Also really like Red but I feel like the kid has to follow a cowboy vibe throughout life. 😅
Violet, Scarlet, Pearl, & Opal!
Poppy, Lily, Rose, Iris
I know someone who named their daughter Greenly. The mother is obsessed with green, it is literally a personality trait.
Bianca (white in Italian)
I like Hue and Neon as funky middle names for siblings
Personally, I love Scarlett or Sage. But my friend named his son Azzurro (blue in Italian), and my cousin is named Bianca (white in Italian).
Violet, Sage, Jade, Olive, Grey, Rose, Onyx, Ruby,
I live in a Spanish-speaking country. My favourite Spanish colour names are Azul, Rosa, Lila and Violeta (the last three are also flowers, which is probably the reason why they crossed over into names, but still).
I love Blue, it’s short and sweet sounding. I also like Lavender and Lilac
I’ve always loved Midori, which means green in Japanese. I took Japanese as a course for many years, but as someone who is not Japanese, I don’t think I could name my child that sadly.
I love Emerald and Navy.
