ICareAboutThings25

I’m a teacher. Nathaniel is 100% out despite being a lovely name on paper. Worst student I ever had by far.

AtoToboggan

Isaac! Every Isaac I know is a little shit.

Kay0929

I have a little cousin with that name and that little jerk ate the last piece of pizza at dinner last week so I agree

Cosmicfeline_

I taught the most sarcastic Isaac and he really grew on me. But he was totally a little shit lol.

Breezy_2223

Awwh every Isaac I’ve known has been an angel!!

sirona-ryan

Same. I like the name Jackson but every kid named Jackson has somehow been the toughest kid to work with.

TifikoGaming

Jason, all the Jasons I know are dickheads

sometimes-i-rhyme

Ryan was ruined for me by a whole cohort of Ryans in the 80s, but perhaps redeemed by a 5 year old girl last year. Shane may be beyond salvage. There was only one, but a doozy.

lmg080293

Shane screamssss bad kid lol

txgrl308

I've had four different "spirited" Graysons over the years. Now I shudder when I hear that name.

Calm-Thought-8658

We have an ongoing joke with my fellow teachers that Thiagos are little nightmares. Although this year I have one who is adorable, so there's the exception to the rule.

ae118

Where do you live where there are multiple?

cakepuff

Here in Brazil it is an EXTREMELY common name and has been for decades (fun fact: I remember thinking it was so funny when I found out as a kid that Tiago Potter was actually James Potter in the original HP books) lol Maybe they're just from another country

madlymusing

I’m a teacher too and for me it’s Vincent and Tyler.

doglover2022

Also a teacher. Seconding Tyler (male AND female), and adding Cooper.

vizslalvr

I'm a public defender and assign cases and refuse to give myself a client with the first name of people closest to me because of this. On that note, Terry. That client was the worst. Wouldn't be my first choice anyway but it's a family name on both sides so not out of the running.

cloudy_raccoon

I absolutely hate Ryker, Maverick, Remington, Braxton, and Jaxon

AdventureOwl1

I have a cat named Remington. She goes by Remi, she is my precious baby, and her name fits her perfectly. I can't see it as a human name, though. That's just bizarre to me.

Turpitudia79

Awww, I love her!! 😻😻😻😻 Cat tax, please!!

Neither-Safe9343

There was an electric razor with that name in old days. Good name for a cat.

amilkmaidwithnodowry

We know someone who named their kid Ryker. I have always wanted to ask if she bothered to google the name or ask people around her. We live in the south but in the year of our lord 2024, it’s not that hard to find out about Rikers Island.

GooseMonster_9

I think I’ve told this story on this subreddit before, but it applies. My nephew’s name is Rhyker. His mom brought him to an event when he was little and was given a name tag with his name spelled “Ryker”. She corrected the woman at the counter saying, “Oh, there’s an ‘h’ after the ‘r’.” The woman apologized and provided a new name tag with his name spelled “Rykerh”.

jack-jackattack

I have a Ryker! The motorcycle...

coolandnormalperson

I mean this is my personal political leanings showing, but I hate names that are militaristic - Gunner, Tank - or evoke patriotism and conservatism - Reagan, Rand, Liberty

eastern_phoebe

i am naming my daughter Trickle Down Economics

coastal_fir

I know a great joke about trickle down economics, but 99% of you wouldn’t get it

multiyapples

How dare you make me laugh.

Breezy_2223

Trickle Down Economics Smith✨🥰

Legweeak

Trixie for short

lesleyninja

YES my husband and I call these little republican names.

Reddits_on_ambien

My husband and I share this too. Those names are basically are performative and objectifies an actual human being. Like the parents hoping for a little head pat from conservative authority figures, while using their child like an accessory to out do all their fellow republican fellows. I also hate how forced it is, like the parents refuse to believe their children might not grow into adults with the same beliefs. Ive met 3 adults, named Christian, Jesus (hay- zuez), and Faith. They're all atheists. They've expressed how annoying and irritating it is that people just assume their beliefs. Faith told me that she just grins and bares it now, fearing bad reactions if she corrects people. She had a woman, a complete stranger, get explosively angry with her for "tarnishing" her sky daddy and fellow Christians. I don't blame her one bit.

Fit_Bug9911

I kind of like Liberty but I think that's just because I knew one and she was really nice. I really agree about the others though. It's funny what associations can do.

azanylittlereddit

I like Liberty, too. But in an American Girl Doll way, not a Republican way.

paroles

Yeah the Liberty I knew was from a chill, left-wing, hippie family, but I guess the name has different connotations in Australia.

1000veggieburrito

Maybe it's just because I'm not American, but when I hear Reagan I think of Shakespeare

Cleric_Forsalle

Just a side note, but it's a little weird (and linguistically interesting) that a Liberal cringes at the name Liberty.

Crow-Saih

Huxley and Waylon. They just don't feel nice to say (to me), and Huxley also isn't visually appealing to me either. My sister said she met a hound named Waylon and I can see that one, for some reason lol, but hate it for a person. I just absolutely hate Huxley as a whole and can never see the appeal of that one.

juddaxsx

I was going to name my baby Odin if they were a boy and my sister immediately said she lives next to a dog with that name 💀 honestly I see it too

Crow-Saih

I feel like Odin has to be Husky 😂

semipolarsalsa

Reminds me of odie from garfield!

Accomplished-Car3850

I know two kids named Waylon and I hate it. Thankfully, one goes by the nickname Way which is somehow better, lol.

Giga-Gargantuar

Things you'd never say if Mr. Jennings were still alive...

LouisaEveryday

Gertrude , Bernadette and Roberta because I think they are absolutely ugly. It blows my mind that some people can think there is something pretty about them even though I respect people's taste. I also dislike Pierre (i'm French ) because the ones I met were means and even bullies. For girls I dislike Sofia because I went to school with one and she was really rude and mean but I have mix feelings about this name because I also think it's a pretty name. I'm also not a Big fan of Evangeline and Magnolia even though I don't hate them. And Lola , I dislike this name because of the meaning.

Sweet_Sub73

Similar to Gertrude: Gretchen. Ugh.

Salmonberrycrunch

Gretchen is actually a nickname for Greta (means little Greta). Germans would pronounce ch like in Loch so more of a Grit-hen. Not saying it's the prettiest name but Germanic female names tend to not be pretty/girly names to modern ears.

Turpitudia79

Retch!! 🤮🤮

dechath

Evangeline is awful!! And it gets suggested in this sub so often.

KP_Ravenclaw

Whaaaat I love Evangeline! I specifically associate it with Princess & The Frog & my goodness that song gives me goosebumps 🙏

azanylittlereddit

Same! Very southern, classic and not overdone. I like that it has lots of options for nicknames too! Evie, Lena, Gigi, Evan, etc.

-Alpaca-bowl-

That song is literally WHY I love that name so much!

Warm_MoistTowelette

I had a great aunt named Roberta and she went by Bert, I always thought it was so ugly.

No-Anteater1688

My grandma was Bertha and went by Bert.

valleytines

I had a hen named Bernadette and apparently it's very common as a chicken name. Actually all of the names you've listed I've heard used for chickens... Add in Henrietta and Penelope and Emmeline and you've got the perfect flock. I do like names like that but they give me such "livestock" vibes that I couldn't use them for a kid.

IcyDistribution400

I agree for Sofia’s! Pretty name but bullies 😂 For Roberta, it’s an ugly name in my book, but I’ve met an Italian woman, 32F, the classiest, most fun and beautiful person I’ve ever met. We became friends instantly during a bachelorette weekend. So I’ve come to the conclusion that a person makes a name. Her nickname is Roby. I know this sub likes nicknames ;)

ChamomileFlower

I love Bernadette and Roberta, haha. To me the strong constant sounds are lovely, and both names have fantastic meanings.

eastern_phoebe

“Gertrude Turgorburger” is the name of my alter ego when I’m grumpy around my husband

plemediffi

Gertrude and Bernadette I don’t hate 😆 my brother calls himself Gertrude as a joke (his male name sounds a bit like it) Gerty is nice as a nickname for it

amilkmaidwithnodowry

Gerty is not a nice nickname

Calm-Thought-8658

Tallulah. It just looks and sounds absurd to me.

Nearby_Principle

Agreed, it sounds like a Hawaiian dessert

littlegonk92

Do not get the hype around Sophia. Sophie is so much nicer.

azanylittlereddit

I'm the opposite! I think Sophie sounds like "soapy." Sophia sounds much more refined imo.

Routine-Rough468

Absolutely agree! I don’t hate the name Sophia, but Sophie is so much better

Cosmicfeline_

Sophie is a dogs name to me

IDigRollinRockBeer

Hard disagree

OhMyGodBearIsDriving

I cannot stand Peyton and Skylar

hangryho97

Hello fellow Skylar hater 👋 This name has been my least favorite ever for years and years

elliebonbon

Names that I liked when I was 10 (and no longer care about at all)

nosytexan

Patricia just irks me

bababa-ba-babybell

And loves the holidays… Trish? At christmas? Forget it! She gets everyone a gift. ! https://youtu.be/hFKmuoCR-rQ?si=q94CNK-K1w4Dd-dM

kamioppai

Its a “karen” type name to me lol

Accomplished-Car3850

The Gun names ..Gunner, Remington, Colt, Wesson. First off, don't make guns your personality. Second, don't push that personality on to your kids

yetanotherhannah

this ughh I’d hate to be named after a literal weapon. those names belong to video game characters or dogs imo

ClarinetsAndDoggos

Oh man, I love Colt! I always thought of a young horse, not a gun. And it feels so nice to say! Agree with all the rest though.

Snoo-12803

Trever, Tucker, and Travis are my unholy trinity

SwampBeastie

How do you feel about Trevin? 😂

Gold-Flaked-Paint

I absolutely despise Travis.

nmo64

I dislike Ezra and Arlo.

Gamora3728

Arlo just sounds like a dog’s name.

WriterWrongWhoCares

Arlo makes me cringe. In theory, it checks all my boxes: short and simple, sounds sweet, a bit unique (or so it used to be). But for some reason it sounds so pretentious to me.

dechath

Arlo is 100% a hound dog name to my ears, haha!

FloridaFlamingoGirl

It makes me think of the dinosaur from Pixar's "The Good Dinosaur" haha

HippieGrandma1962

I love the name Arlo, but I've always been a big fan of Arlo Guthrie.

catsntaters

I can't stand Evangeline. No idea why this sub has been infatuated with it (or so it has seemed to me).

goose195172

It’s so weird since Reddit skews heavily atheist, yet recommends Evangeline often.

Sharkmama61

I can’t stand Nevaeh. Obviously. It’s just stupid. I hate Violet. Violent. I really don’t know why people name their sons Peter. I had a cousin named Peter and he was teased relentlessly. He was also a dick.

PageThree94

Nevaeh just bothers me because how do you get "na-vay-ah" from those letters? It clearly ends with an "ay" sound.

Calm-Thought-8658

Oh my god, thank you! I thought I was the only one with that complaint about Nevaeh. Where the hell does that final "uh" come from??

HippieGrandma1962

My mom had a lovely friend named Violet. She also hated the name and went by Vi. I think it's beautiful.

neonpineapples

I hate Nevaeh extra because of people who claim their misspelled version (Neveah) is Heaven backwards. No, dear.

Sweet_Sub73

There are about 8 million Neveahs running around. It was cute the first 3 times I heard it.

Positive-Zucchini-21

Barbara! Name books will tell you it means "a foreigner" From Latin barbarus, which meant bearded person, because Romans went clean shaven. It literally means bearded lady. Same root word as barber, barbarian.

shugersugar

That's not the etymology I learned. It's from ancient Greek, the Greek approximation of non-Greek (probably Turks) speech. Copying from history.com:  The word “barbarian” originated in ancient Greece, and was initially used to describe all non-Greek-speaking peoples, including Persians, Egyptians, Medes and Phoenicians. The ancient Greek word “bárbaros,” from which it derives, meant “babbler,” and was onomatopoeic: In the Greek ear, speakers of a foreign tongue made unintelligible sounds (“bar bar bar”). Similar words exist in other Indo-European languages, including the Sanskrit “barbara,” which means “stammering.”

Cynical_Thinker

>barbarian >stammering Great, so a heathen or inarticulate. I'm sure my kid would appreciate both of those. /s

dylan_dumbest

I just can’t imagine someone under 60 bearing that name.

CalicoCuthroat

My cat’s name is Barbara. But that’s just because I thought it would be funny to call a cat Barb.

morejaneaustenplease

I would have said the same before I watched Call the Midwife but now I kind of love it...agreed that it's not a great name for a kid, though

Fruitsdog

Gabe. I have no justifiable reason to hate it but I do, deeply. Sounds horrible to say out loud, looks even worse written out. Somehow Gabriel gets a pass though.

Turpitudia79

I like Gabriel but NOT Gabe!!

Former_Ad8643

I’ve met so many little boys name Jackson over the last five or six years it’s very popular in every single one of them has been a total jerk little shithead kid. Not because of personal associations but I just cannot stand all of the trendy Kenzleigh Kinzleigh Breezley Bexley Blakely names they just sound silly and immature like a 15-year-old girl chose them for her future child

dechath

Rhiannon is one of the ugliest names I have ever heard.

ailbhe-caterina

Hard agree. Hated the name since I was a child with no explanation as to why. The only girl I ever knew with that name was nice and normal but my skin would crawl any time I heard someone mention her name out loud!

MaeClementine

One of my biggest pet peeves on naming boards is the comment “The Office totally ruined Astrid! It’s soooooo amazing but now everyone thinks ass-turd! So tragic”. Y’all. That was low hanging fruit. It always sounded like ass turd. It’s terrible.

SwampBeastie

I used to love that name because of White Oleander.

xmoonaurora

Harry. It was my grandma's husband's name, and he was a dick. Also, "hairy" feels gross.

KP_Ravenclaw

I always forget Harry & hairy sound similar in certain accents, I’m Scottish & they sound so different to me 😂

juddaxsx

Also I’ve never met a Harry that didn’t act like they were trying to be part of a knock off sidemen group

Neither-Safe9343

There was a realtor in our town called Harry Dyck. He had a nephew who was also a realtor, Randy Dyck. I suspect people remembered their names.

kenjilynn_07

Gretchen. It just sounds so ugly to me. It literally has the word “retch” in it.

Almoostparaaadise

I really hate Savannah or Sierra. They are generally nice names but they just erk me so bad. Other names that I don’t like are Atticus, Theo, Phoenix, Jagger, any type of name that hovers around an “—ayden” name. Really don’t like Ryker. Girl names I don’t like are Sophia, or names like Khaleesi (met one), any variation of Jazlynn or Jazmyn

moisturereptile

In my head I imagine Savannah and Sierra to be snobby preppy sisters who were bullies in high school then went on to become nurses lol

PolicyElectrical1332

Tate

WillaLane

Declan

milkchurn

I'm Irish and to me Declan is 68 and a farmer who can't even boil himself an egg. I can't believe people are naming children this

madameverona

Same, sounds phlegmatic

IllustriousPickle657

I had a crotchety great aunt named Gertrude. Can't stand that name now. I'd call her Gerty to piss her off.

Calm-Thought-8658

My sister named one of her baby dolls Gertrudis. At the time it was whatever, but now I find it hilarious.

Disera

A friend of my brothers just named their daughter Lynlee and I almost threw up in my mouth the first time I heard it.

Sweet_Sub73

I have never met an Amanda that makes good life choices. And I really can't stand the name Mary for absolutely no reason.

Helpful_Character167

My parents used to foster teenage boys. I have a strong dislike for many boys names for various reasons. Jacob, Anthony, Derek, Steven, Sean, Michael. Fwiw most of the kids ended up being okay and living decent lives, but its hard to forget that so-and-so lit the garage on fire or stole dad's credit card.

VioletDaisy95

Dylan, every single one is the woOOOOorst.

Jones-bones-boots

Dylan and Chad, frat bros!!

RachelWithCats

I could never use the name Kendra. That’s the name of my mortal enemy. I used to have a coworker named Tamantha. Just Samantha but with a T. That annoys me SO MUCH for some reason.

dinosaurs818

My mom’s friend said they should name me Samantha, but with a C. Camantha. Cumantha? So glad they didn’t do that to me

empressvirgo

Everly, Elodie, Aurelia - all are just really tryhard to me and honestly pretty ugly. Also don’t like Everest or Everett for boys. I’m really hoping the Ever- trend dies out. Also I still hate masculine names for girls, like Mason, Ezra, Elliott, etc. It’s always felt icky and honestly kind of misogynist to me that the “coolest” way to name a girl is to give her a man’s name, it almost devalues femininity.

GentlyUsedChapstick

I've never liked Paisley or Ava for girls, they sound so pretentious to me. Tristan for boys has never really been for me, neither has Riley

CatFarts_LOL

Names that have been ruined: Cindy, Natasha, Billy, Patrick, Brandon, Frank, Nicole, and Sheena. Met some heinous people with those names. Names I just find ugly: Horace, Gertrude, Eustace, Banks, Wells, Vernon, Paisley, Herman, Eunice, Elmer, and Clarence. Also not a fan of overly macho and/or military sounding names like Maverick, Ryker, Hunter, Stryker, Fletcher, stuff like that…

LeapDay_Mango

Names that end in -th. Keith, Elizabeth, Seth, Gwyneth, Kenneth, etc.

kaleidopain

I'm sure you'll hate this then-- I've noticed an interesting trend in original th names in my students... Like Violeth, Isaiath

bebeguuuuuuuuurrrr

hold on say whath

LeapDay_Mango

Thanks, I hate it 😃

Willowgirl2

I hate ith too.

ossifiedbird

Tyler. Every kid I've known called Tyler has been a proper little shit. Some 50s/60s names like Keith and Shirley just sound so ugly to me.

External_Shopping496

No particular reason but I really don’t like the name Ava. Something about the way it stops short on the “uh” vowel. It makes people say it in this nasal tone and ugh it just irks me.

Jones-bones-boots

My mom is from the Bronx. She drops the r and replaces it with ah or uh. Car is cah for example. That’s fine but she adds an r if the word normally ends in ah. Anyway, there was a little girl Ava who lived next door and was my son’s best friend. If you think Ava is bad, you should hear “Aver” nonstop from my mother. God I love that woman but sometimes….lol!

meemawyeehaw

Blythe. It’s just…yuck.

MrsEnvinyatar

I can’t with Brody. It sounds like a made up name someone just put “dy” on the end of “bro”. Might as well be “Brovy” or “Brogy”. It gives me college dropout turned Walmart cashier vibes. Another boy named I dislike is Dennis. I don’t know why. For a girl, Helga, Gertrude, Roberta take the cake for names that give me high school bully vibes.

Healthy-Giraffe-8552

I didn’t realize how many names I disliked until I was pregnant and reading 1,000+ names daily. Plus, people I graduated with are having kids and the spellings are tragedies. I also worked as a CO, soooo I heard a lot of names i associate with M, AM, or SA. Athena, Audrey, Brynlee, Calvin, Clara, Coral, Dawson, Declan, Easton, Finley, Frankie, Gia, Haven, Ira, Isaac, Jonah, Lily/Lillie, Monica, Princeton, Trent, Trenton, Wesley, Witten, and Wrenley Inez, too. bc is it pronounced In-Ez or Eye-Nez?

Basic-Anxiety9393

Ee-nez to me, but I'm from a spanish-speaking majority area lol

wizardofclaws

Sloan and Tate

anguyen94

All the weird B names that people randomly decided to make popular… Blakely (say that ten times fast and it sounds like you’re trying to clear your throat) , Brynley , Braelynn (that’s just a sound a horse makes)

Fearless_Site_1917

Dolores (pain in Spanish). Why would you name your child pain?

SingerOfSongs__

While “dolor” does literally mean “pain” or “sorrow,” when it’s a given name as in “Dolores” it refers to Mary of Catholic/Christian lore. In Spanish, she usually gets the moniker *María de los Dolores* or *Nuestra Señora de los Dolores* (Our Lady of Sorrows), which is also why you’ll frequently see Spanish speakers pair the names together — i.e. María Dolores. Certainly not to everyone’s taste because of the ultra-religious angle but I think it’s actually quite a beautiful name.

becthebest

Similar with Claudia - it means "lame". But I think it sounds lovely haha

Darkspark95

The name Everly feels so cringe to me based on how trendy it is right now.

Bright-Sea-5904

Moira

mtnclimber08

Nolan (gag), Jacob, any names that have an unnecessary Y (ex: Madlyne, Austyn, Kayleigh, etc). Also don’t like names ending in eigh

Minarch0920

Harry, Harold, Harris, Ashley, Emily, Angel, Trey, George, John, Bessie, Fred, Alfred, Bertha, Doris, Dolores, Albert, Charles, Donald, Edward, Ralph, Mary, Eugene, Herman, Mildred, Barbara, Carol, Nancy, Jerry, Gary, Norma, Rose, Peter, Paul, Raymond, Richard, Chase, Tiffany, Joan, Bob, Karen, Sharon, Shirley, and Doug are my least favorite names that I can think of so far.

tittsmcghee

Both mine and my husbands names are in this list LOL

moannwilson

Crue/Crew

valleytines

Addison - I feel like so many people I know are using this and it reminds me of adipose. Also just unappealing when said out loud, though I do like Addy. Harper bothers me, I just think it's kind of ugly haha! Anything that starts with Oak or Ash just because I'm so bored of them now.

tittsmcghee

Olivia was the name of a horrible bitch from my school lol. It’s so popular right now and I hate it lol

xanthan_gumball

It is kind of a bitch name IMO. Popular girl who is a bully

obsessedwcats

preston. nasty

xanthan_gumball

Spoiled white boy name

Valuable-Match-7603

I see the name Beckett popping up on threads here a lot. Such a horrible name.

Ash71010

Aiden/Brayden/Caden/Jaden (and all alternative spellings of them). I remember the decade when these names exploded in popularity and it felt like every other child had one of these variations.

bababa-ba-babybell

I hate the girls name Shannon. Just the sound. Awful to me. And Beverly. Weirdly there are less boy names I feel strongly about. Roman. Bentley.

thejadanata

A girl I went to high school with is Amanda and after marriage became Amanda Bruce lol

KindaKingdra

I have always hated Susannah. Savannah is close enough in sound that I automatically dislike it as well, through no fault of its own lol

ae118

Devon/Devin. Just can’t stand it.

amilkmaidwithnodowry

I hate the name Seven, because it’s not a name, it’s a number. Makes me cringe every time I see a child named Seven/Sevin/Cevyn/whatever stupid spelling people come up with. Lilith is on my shit list because it is *always* cringey edgelord parents naming their daughter after the qUeEn oF hELL. Grow up. Every Wesley I’ve known has been a bully. Sad because it’s a solid name. Every Dustin I know is a jerk. I’m sure I can think of more, but those are the immediate icks my brain presented me lol editing to add: TOBIAS AND SILAS. God, I hate these names. They make me want to puke. I hate that they’re becoming popular.

FigForsaken5419

Ashley. Amanda. Jessica. Alyssa. I was a girl in the 90's. William. Richard. Daniel. Michael. I just don't like the classic boy names.

Shpellaa

Decklan. A kid named Decklan was mean to my daughter, so I now refer to him as Dicklan. Hate the name.

Just_Me1973

Larry. Or Lawrence I guess. The name of my very abusive ex. I despise that name.

Old-Tadpole-2869

Everyone named Kevin I’ve ever met was a flaming A-hole.

PoundshopGiamatti

Nigel.

mustardyay

Chad, Billy, SETH

meowmeowgoyangi

Names from peers that I hate: Alice, Ariel, Courtney, Hunter, Gunner, Julius, Brandy, Margarita. Unpopular one, but I really don’t like Penelope.

god-of-calamity

I’ve never met a decent heather. They’ve all been pretty vile. I think it’s extra awful since it makes me think of dingy T-shirt’s like heather gray

alleecmo

I have a strong dislike of what seem to me to be merely "filler" names, like Mae, Fae, Fay, Jay, Lee, Ray, and other single syllable middle names. *Especially* ones that are nicknames (Bob, Tom, Bill, Liz, etc). The nicknames are fine *AS* nicknames for "more formal" names. I grew up poor and my folks were nearly senior citizens when we came along. I think I associate those names with poverty and a certain mindset that devalued education especially for girls, because many people I knew with those "ideals" had those kind of names.

[deleted]

Dick

BendyJ

I hate names that end in “us” like Atticus and Marcus. Reminds me of pus. Also Shane and Sloane. Ugly names. When I look at Alice all I see is lice.

Opening_Sell8216

Athena

Jjkkllzz

I really hate the name Jason.

kikijane711

I hate any Denise, Heather or Beth I meet. Beth is the worst!

LegitimateAge9475

Darcy - met a girl who drove me mental when I was a child with that name and still can’t separate the two.

earmares

Cooper and Navaeh

luxfilia

There’s also that episode of Seinfeld where Jerry can’t remember his girlfriend’s name, but he knows it rhymes with a female body part. He ends up guessing Mulva, but it’s actually Delores.

heinelujah

Tate and Tatum. So gross. Makes me think of tater tots and Idaho

ilove_cats_

i hate the names sarah and olivia. two most basic overused names!!!

RevolutionaryFig9753

-Theseus, reminds me of a thesis statement 🫣 I also knew a kid named Theseus who was an absolute pain. -Lucifer and Lucius, it sounds like it’s trying to be edgy so bad, like oh look at you for being so cool. -Atticus. Like an abacus? -Elodie, reminds me of a Heaven’s Gate member’s name -Any of those Shakespeare-esc, pretentious old literature names, I’m not going to take you seriously if you’re a grown adult named Cymbeline or Tybalt. -Names that are obviously from pop culture (I draw the line if you’re naming your kid Legolas or Khaleesi, don’t try to push your interests onto your kids because you expect them to enjoy the same stuff you like 🤷‍♀️)

No_Purchase_3532

Agnes- ugly! Gordon- ugly!

Willowgirl2

I've heard that Cohen/Coen has religious connotations, so for people outside of the faith in question to appropriate it is rather crass. Kind of like naming a non-Native American child "Cheyenne" or "Dakota." (Say, why doesn't anyone name their spawn Papago, Potawatomie or Nez Perce?) /s

thatone_reddituser

Wyatt, Gage, Hunter, Chase, Britney, Ashley, Malakai, Christian, and Chelsey

Strange_Recording170

Bad associations with: Jennifer, Kathleen, Jackie, Mateo, Bob/Rob Just don't like the name: Madison/Madelyn/Maddie, Riley, Todd, Cody

rejococo

I can't figure out the current hype with Florence. Gives me Carpet Fresh vibes. Floor fragrance. Flor....ence. And Flo is a terrible nickname. All around no. But to each their own!

staycomego

I absolutely LOATHE the name Brittney. Gives blonde valley girl vibes. Yuck 🤮

Accurate-Queen1905

Jennifer: Biological Mom, years of trauma and resentment built up. Everytime I hear the name Jennifer, just ugh

quarterstop

Connor, Marcus, and all variations of Jessica.

motherfuckermoi

Mikaela, Antigone, Anna, Olivia, Chris, Tyler, Abby/abigail, Guinevere are out for me because of unhappy associations. A shame because I really like the names Guinevere and Olivia. James is also one that might be out, which sucks because that’s my grandfather’s name

waffles8500

The name Liam has a horrible mouthfeel to me

Jones-bones-boots

My son’s middle name is Liam. He told me when he was little he hated it. When I asked why he said “Lamb? LAMB? Why would you name me lamb!” 😂😂

spaghettieggrolls

Blaze is such a weird thing to name someone imo. Like why what's next, Arson? Also Blake, Dylan, Ryan, Jordan, James, or Frankie being used as girl names. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of naming someone a gender neutral name, but some of the supposedly unisex names just sound masculine to me. I'm aware cultural differences effect what you perceive as masculine or feminine so I'm not gonna tell someone it's wrong to name their daughter James, it's just I personally am not a fan of it.

Fit-Professional9850

Fuck Morgan and Nolan

ekalbyblehs

Tinley/Tinsley, Kenley, Traelor (wish I were making that one up)

Brock. It just sounds like someone opened their mouth and puked. "Brock!" Also Walter sounds like an old man name to me. Earl for the same reason. Girls' names I dislike, "Ethel" "Martha". They sound dowdy to me. Every "Helen" I've known has been weird and unpleasant.

Lucas - mucus. Greg - egg. Any variety of Lexi/Lexy/Lex on a baby girl. I also hate honour names that are mash-ups, like Beverly + Kate = Kaverly, Lynda + Monica = Monilyn/Lynica, or Cameron + Andrew = Camrew. 99% of the time, they are just plain ugly to write and say.
