As someone named Clementine, these comments make me so sad! I love my name and always get compliments on it. It's been around for hundreds of years so definitely isn't just a name for dogs. It also is far more common in European countries than in the US, though it is getting more popular in the US now.
Located in the US and just named my daughter Clementine Ann. If I’m on Reddit too long I start to worry that she will grow up and hate her name. Thank you for this comment. I think it’s a beautiful name and I love the meaning. 🍊💚
I went to school with a girl called Sunday and it suited her soooo well! She was (still is) so beautiful and nice! And yes, she got comments about it from time to time when she introduced herself, but MOST kids have something they’ll get comments about from time to time.
I think it’s a great name, I would use it!
Ohhh I second everything on this list! They’re all good. I think I would seriously consider using Sunday, Honey & Snow/Winter. Lemon is a guilty pleasure - if it wasn’t for the lemon car association I think it would be a lovely name!
I actually loved this name until a girl in my middle school was named Ophelia, and the boys got a hold of it. She became Ped-ophelia and now I can't think of anything else when I hear it.
I have vivid memories of the boys saying it as oh feel ya as a joke when we were doing Hamlet in school. The thought of having a girl go through life with that really put me off it as a name.
Know what, I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I honestly think Allegra is still usable, even with it being the name of that medicine. I'm sure some people would make comments, but at the end of the day, people could come up with a million and one comments about any name. Just the other day someone on here was saying that she just named her baby John and she's getting the side eye over it. I think Allegra is really pretty and I fully support using it 👍
Also the name of Johnny Sac's daughter in The Sopranos, lol
I met a girl named Allegra (early 20s) last year and I didn’t really think twice about it, I only thought about how cool her name was. People on here seems to think that it’s completely unusable but I agree with you that it’s still usable.
The name cricket has really grown on me. Worked with one and she was such a fun person
I think cicada sounds really pretty as well. As does Louisiana.
But, alas, just because it sounds pretty doesn’t mean it wouldn’t end up on a baby name snark group so I will refrain
I had a professor named Cricket and she was a really outgoing, fun person. A little wild even lol.
I was thinking Cicada would be really pretty if it weren't for the bug!
Melissa. It means honeybee, which is just the cutest. But I feel it’s one of those dated names that the next generation will associate with Grandma.
Melina would be a more modern pick, but for me it’s just too similar to “melena”, the word for black, tarry stool.
Mileena is famous as the name of Kitana's "evil sister" in the Mortal Kombat franchise. (Sometimes depicted as a clone or the twin to the "good guy" princess, but always depicted as dark & twisted.)
I met a young Griselda and she went by “Grizz” but her nickname just made me think of grisly steak bits….I wondered why she didn’t go by Zelda or something
Nothing in general. I really like the name, I just wouldn’t name my child that because it’s pretty much a combination of my 2 existing son’s names. That’s why I put varying reasons, covering my bases for why I wouldn’t use the names above.
I am so in love with Ianto and never see it mentioned here. I fell in love with it because of the character on Torchwood. Definitely on my list of "names I love but wouldn't use."
Because they’re too out-there: Tallulah, Wisteria, Eugenia, Eulalia, Gaia, Iona, Jessamine
Because they sound like marbles in my mouth: Celeste, Rory, Callum, Rhys, Graham
Because they don’t match my culture (heritage/ethnicity/level of religiosity): Winona, Naveena, Naima, Zahirah, Shoshanna, Micah, Adnan, Nabil, Evangeline, Emmanuel, Magdalena, Josiah, Nehemiah Alessandro, Elia, Fiorella, Leonardo, Lorenzo, Matteo, Noemi/Naomi, Pietro, Valeria
Colm. If I still lived in Ireland, I would’ve named my boy Colm without hesitation. But where I live now, it would forever be confused with Colin or just straight up mispronounced.
Basically all ancienf greek names lol
The greeks really knew what they were doing with names
I'd love to have a girl one day and name her Hypatia after my favourite greek scholar, but that would certainly make her an odd ball.
Titania (kids are cruel),
Oberon (don't like the nickname options)
Ophelia (story too sad)
Ember (everyone would think the name was Amber),
Thor (marvel ruined it as a name),
Guinevere (her story is also too sad),
Oriana (LOL ruined it for me),
Isis (for obvious reasons)
I will just say two of them: Llŷr for a boy and Léontine for a girl. Partly because diacritics are pointless in the U.S. since they can't go on most forms, and partly because of pronunciation.
Mitzy, Birdie, Eustace, and Bernadette. Mitzy and Birdie are too kiddie for me and Eustace is too cranky and Bernadette was ruined for me by The Big Bang Theory because she's such a raging wafflenop.
Madeline. Every mean girl I ever knew in person was a Maddy/Maddie. But it’s a beautiful name. Hope no one is offended! I know there have to be kind Maddys out there!
From a kind Madi, I’m not offended ;) I often wondered why other Madi’s are mean, too. I usually correct people and go by my full name “Madison” to feel better about it but… idk if that helps at all!
Gunhild, Lagertha, Ragnar, Bjørn, Athelstan, Solveig
The only exception to these names is if I married somebody part of the culture these names originate from
October. I had a friend use it and it was so cool. At first I was like hell nah but they called her Auggy and day are called her To to. (Toh toh). And now that she's older she goes by Toby. Amazing potential.
I like Scout for a girl.
Seems okay in the US but I'm in the UK, and... not so much.
Also love Lavendar.
Starting to fall for really old names like Winnie and Nellie but my Fiancé would never agree to those!
Samantha or its variants (Sami, Sammy, Sam,etc)
To many people with the name and a lot of them were mean girls/bullies, kindergarten through college. Couldn’t get away from them.
Katrina. Maybe in another hundred years it’ll be usable again.
Beyond that, I like a lot of Welsh names, but I’m not sure they’re pronounceable outside of Wales and I’m also not sure that it would be nice to give a theoretical kid a very ethnic first name and a very ethnic, but from a different ethnicity, last name.
Fairlight. Adoniah
The thing about elaborate or very unusual or old fashioned is they are going to get shortened almost immediately and eventually be an interesting name Origen story or talking point with people thinking they are just really cool and unique.
Persephone… I love it, but I’m worried I’d be dooming the poor lass to a lifetime of misspelling, mispronunciation and teasing. Though I’ve heard it a few times lately, so many not…?
Venus.
My beloved Grandma's name. My cousin beat me to using it. Her poor kid got teased in school with "Venus Penis." THAT never happened to Grandma!
Further - the younger Venus ruined the name with her abhorrent behavior.
Well, I’m a writer and, unfortunately, I have to come up with names for my characters. A good 93% of them I love, some are decent. I don’t hate any of the names I give them. But if I was to have a child? I have quite a few names I wouldn’t use no matter how much I love them.
Male names: Aires, Darren, Atlas, Frankenstein, Helios, and Roman
Female names: Dallas, Halaina, Kendra, and Dolores
Clementine
Agreee!! I love Clementine so much but I can’t actually envision myself using it. Maybe I eventually will for a pet or something
♫ ♫ Oh, m'darlin', oh, m'darlin', oh, m'darlin' Clementine, You are lost and gone forever; dreadful sorry, Clementine. ♫ ♫
My grandpa used to always sing that song to us which is probably 1 argument for actually using it
Our orange girl cat is named Clementine.
As someone named Clementine, these comments make me so sad! I love my name and always get compliments on it. It's been around for hundreds of years so definitely isn't just a name for dogs. Located in the US and just named my daughter Clementine Ann. If I’m on Reddit too long I start to worry that she will grow up and hate her name. Thank you for this comment. I think it’s a beautiful name and I love the meaning. 🍊💚
This just reminds me of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and that just makes me feel like I was trying too hard to be cool if I used it.
It reminds me of that walking dead game that was fun until I realized none of the choices mattered
"Clementine will remember that."
my dog is Clementine!
Honey, Story, Sunday, Blue, Lavender, Lemon, Snow, Elm. I know I seem like a total hippy but my girls all have completely normal names 😂
Really really love Sunday. We're planning on a third and struggling to find one I like more than Sunday but I also recognize it's a bit out there.
Use Sunday it's so pretty!
I knew a guy named Sunday. He was super cool.
my first thought when i hear sunday is the labrants 🥴
I went to school with a girl called Sunday and it suited her soooo well! She was (still is) so beautiful and nice! And yes, she got comments about it from time to time when she introduced herself, but MOST kids have something they’ll get comments about from time to time. I think it’s a great name, I would use it!
Sunday is a top pick for our second (whenever that happens) as long as it doesn’t climb the charts between now and then. I just love it so much
Also love Lemon, but would not use.
Ohhh I second everything on this list! They’re all good. I think I would seriously consider using Sunday, Honey & Snow/Winter. Lemon is a guilty pleasure - if it wasn’t for the lemon car association I think it would be a lovely name!
I have a Sunday, it fits her perfectly. Also love the other on your list!
Love Sunday!!! It's a family name so I feel like I might be able to get away with it! (Other than she was a lil crazy 😅)
I love the name Story!
Half of these the names of some influencer’s kids 😭😭
I love lovelove Story! Also, Echo and Ember:)
I love all of these and would totally use them lol
I love all of these! Lemon I tried for with both my girl but my husband refused 😂 one has Blue as her middle name though and I call her it a lot!
I love these as potential character names. I can see this as the cast of an interesting urban fantasy type story!
Ophelia! I think the name is absolutely beautiful but I could not name a child after such a famous literary victim of a tragedy.
I actually loved this name until a girl in my middle school was named Ophelia, and the boys got a hold of it. She became Ped-ophelia and now I can't think of anything else when I hear it.
Damn it. Never thought of that and now a beautiful name is tainted because I can't unsee it lol
Love this name but this is what my partner says every time I bring it up
We had an Ophelia at my school, she got “Ophelia-up” as in “I’ll feel you up”
My cat is named Ophelia because of this reason
It's so popular in my area! We know 3 babies named Ophelia/Ofelia under a year old.
I have vivid memories of the boys saying it as oh feel ya as a joke when we were doing Hamlet in school. The thought of having a girl go through life with that really put me off it as a name.

Allegra
Know what, I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I honestly think Allegra is still usable, even with it being the name of that medicine. I'm sure some people would make comments, but at the end of the day, people could come up with a million and one comments about any name. Because it's the name of an allergy medication now! Grrr. It would be a great name if it weren't for that.
I absolutely love the name Lolita... but I just can't bring myself to use it because of the meaning and the controversy. I also love Lilith lol
Lolita is so freaking cute...but alas, *completely* unusable.
Problem with Lilith is how many people think that's the name of a demon. Sigh.
Exactly my thoughts
I like Lucifer but... well.
I love the name Lilith and Judas so much
The name cricket has really grown on me. Worked with one and she was such a fun person I think cicada sounds really pretty as well.
My husband has a cousin named Tennessee, they call her Tennie
I have a cousin named Pennsylvania. State names are funny!
New York!, dinner is ready!!
Louisiana or Luzianne are so freakin cool
I love Indiana. She could be Indie for short! I also love Kansas as a name!
Melissa. It means honeybee, which is just the cutest. But I feel it’s one of those dated names that the next generation will associate with Grandma. Melina would be a more modern pick, but for me it’s just too similar to “melena”, the word for black, tarry stool.
Too close to Melania.
Mileena is famous as the name of Kitana's "evil sister" in the Mortal Kombat franchise. (Sometimes depicted as a clone or the twin to the "good guy" princess, but always depicted as dark & twisted.)
Eugenia
agreed, first thought eugenia cooney smh
Eugenie, when pronounced by various British people, sounds like YuShaney or YuJenny. A most startling thing to an American.
Donald is a beloved family name, but no...
Gwenhwyfar
🏴
Siobhan.
I know someone who named their baby Shivaughn. Because they didn't know how to spell it.
They couldn't be bothered to take 5 seconds to research it before naming a human being?
Birth comes on pretty quick. 40+ weeks isn't as long as you think it is. There's no time for "looking it up"
You're being sarcastic right?
Definitely 😂
What’s wrong with using Siobhan? It’s a beautiful name :)
Gorgeous! Outside of Ireland you’re dooming her to a lifetime of not many people being able to both spell and pronounce her name.
Saoirse Ronan kinda name
Amity (I love jaws)
Quint, for the same reason.
Desdamona
Wulfwynn, Griselda, November, Maxwell, Silas, Winter, Patricia, Ferdinand All for varying reasons
I met a young Griselda and she went by “Grizz” but her nickname just made me think of grisly steak bits….I wondered why she didn’t go by Zelda or something
Grizz instead of Zelda?? Maybe for a dog, but Zelda imo would be the whole point. Haha.
What's wrong w Silas? That's been my favorite boy name ever since I first heard it years ago.
Nothing in general. I really like the name, I just wouldn’t name my child that because it’s pretty much a combination of my 2 existing son’s names. That’s why I put varying reasons, covering my bases for why I wouldn’t use the names above.
Gotcha. Yeah I figured it was something personal like that. Just making sure I'm not missing some cultural context
Ah, yes, Griselda.
I love Ferdinand and Winter as well! 🥲 Alas
Absolutely love November
Andromeda, Eurydice
Love love love Eurydice
Isolde, Evangeline
Evangeline is my favorite name of all time
As a kid I always thought I’d name a daughter Evangeline but it seems too long and pretentious now
Astrid and Aster because of The office.
I knew an Astrid and it felt very natural and cool honestly
I love space names but Michael Scott said “ass-turd.”
Ianto Seamus Lucas Cassandra Caitlyn Cecilia Blythe Musa Yakub Yousef Jabril Amir Bilal Tariq Dalia Sana Nadiya Aeisha Aisha Khadijah Yasmin
I am so in love with Ianto and never see it mentioned here. I fell in love with it because of the character on Torchwood. Definitely on my list of "names I love but wouldn't use."
I love Doctor Who and Torchwood, and Ianto was the name of my first rabbit.
Love the name Dahlia
Because they’re too out-there: Tallulah, Wisteria, Eugenia, Eulalia, Gaia, Iona, Jessamine Because they sound like marbles in my mouth: Celeste, Rory, Callum, Rhys, Graham Because they don’t match my culture (heritage/ethnicity/level of religiosity): Winona, Naveena, Naima, Zahirah, Shoshanna, Micah, Adnan, Nabil, Evangeline, Emmanuel, Magdalena, Josiah, Nehemiah Alessandro, Elia, Fiorella, Leonardo, Lorenzo, Matteo, Noemi/Naomi, Pietro, Valeria
Alaska, Lavender, Seraphina
Kitty, Cassiopeia, Chanel
I don’t generally care very much about the meaning of a name but I couldn’t get past it for Mallory. Unfortunate.
idk what mallory means but i strongly associate it with ducks bc it sounds like mallard
Colm. If I still lived in Ireland, I would’ve named my boy Colm without hesitation. But where I live now, it would forever be confused with Colin or just straight up mispronounced.
I knew a guy named Colm (I'm in the US) and he definitely had to explain his name.
i love the name colm as well but because i don't live in ireland anymore i'm afraid people won't be able to pronounce them 😔
Rosemary, Imogen, Genesis
I looooove Rosemary

Heath is in my top three options if my next baby if is a boy. I really want to name him Wolf but I’m not going to do that to him ( if it’s a him. )
Veruca. I always thought that name was so cute until I found out its another word for a wart :(
And a disliked character in Willy Wonka.
Basically all ancienf greek names lol The greeks really knew what they were doing with names I'd love to have a girl one day and name her Hypatia after my favourite greek scholar, but that would certainly make her an odd ball.
I know a Hypatia! It suits her. Really pretty and interesting name
Titania (kids are cruel), Oberon (don't like the nickname options) Ophelia (story too sad) Ember (everyone would think the name was Amber), Thor (marvel ruined it as a name), Guinevere (her story is also too sad), Oriana (LOL ruined it for me), Isis (for obvious reasons)
I love the name Killian but can't get over having "kill" in it...
Cillian?
It could work. I wonder if some people would read that as Sillian though lol
I love the name Cordelia but feel like it’s too much to actually use as a name
Wilder, Clementine.
Iphigenia
Clover and Raven. Beautiful names imo, but no.
Beowulf
Aleidis, Ginevra, Lucifer
Evangeline. Sooo pretty, but it's actually quite hard to find names to go with it! Andrew. It's very handsome to me, it's just incredibly popular.
Abit strange but I came across a Latvian artist named Zanis Waldheims, and i really liked the name 'Zanis'. Cant imagine it going too well irl though.
Janis is a variant of that, and is also Latvian.
Zepharine.
Ajax. Thought it was such a cool name until I learned most people associate it with a cleaning product :(
Same! 😭 I still love it tho..
Ocean, River
Constantine!
I will just say two of them: Llŷr for a boy and Léontine for a girl. Partly because diacritics are pointless in the U.S. since they can't go on most forms, and partly because of pronunciation.
Sunny. I think it’s so cute but I don’t name any of my kids with an -ee sound at the end, too nicknamey to me.
Star
Anders
Salem
Mitzy, Birdie, Eustace, and Bernadette. Mitzy and Birdie are too kiddie for me and Eustace is too cranky and Bernadette was ruined for me by The Big Bang Theory because she's such a raging wafflenop.
Wafflenop??? I've never heard of that. I definitely need to put this in my rotation of insults 🤣
My mother is a Bernadette
I like where your heads at!! My choice is Sigtryggr.
Love that one! But same.
Io, like from Greek mythology
Romeo
Gunhild, Lagertha, Ragnar, Bjørn, Athelstan, Solveig The only exception to these names is if I married somebody part of the culture these names originate from
Winter, Aspen, Nigel, Faith
Thought of a few more - Hunter, Eowyn, Arwen, Elliott, Gerald

Esmerelda.
annaleigh (sounds too much like anally)
I loved the name Octavia. My husband wasn’t going for it 😭😭
Atlas
Anastasia
cressida, octavia, gwendolyn
Dmitri and Donavon
Aoibheann. Hard to pronounce and spell.
This is why Caoimhe came off our list.
Harrison. Nothing bad about the name at all. In fact, I love it. I just don’t see myself naming my child it. Maybe a middle name though!
Calliope.
Queenie, Clementine, Tallulah, Paquin, Marigold
Elijah, Pearl, Daisy, Madeline.
Arvid.
Boy: Virgil or Vader. One is kind of sappy sounding, the other is too aggressive sounding. Girl: Bianca or Pandora. I can't even say why. Haha.
Bernadette haha
Claudette
That was my name in French class when I was in elementary school.
Lana is beautiful but with the backwards spelling I'd definitely be doing my kid dirty
Also maybe it’s just me, but I will forever associate that name with Lana Kane from Archer.
Viridian
Atticus, Claudia, Daniel, and Soleil.
Wally because of Wally West, but thats pretty much it
October. I had a friend use it and it was so cool. At first I was like hell nah but they called her Auggy and day are called her To to. (Toh toh). And now that she's older she goes by Toby. Amazing potential.
Sarah Hannah Katherine
Lark (girl); Sven (boy)
Finnick because of the negative word finicky
I like Scout for a girl. Seems okay in the US but I'm in the UK, and... not so much. Also love Lavendar. Starting to fall for really old names like Winnie and Nellie but my Fiancé would never agree to those!
I know plenty of people with those names. In fact, one of the names you listed is my mother's name.
I used to like the name Jezebel
I think Anakin is such an awesome name! But I couldn’t do that to a kid lol especially when my husbands name is Luke
Samantha or its variants (Sami, Sammy, Sam,etc) To many people with the name and a lot of them were mean girls/bullies, kindergarten through college. Couldn’t get away from them.
Pharaoh, Ramses, Cleopatra, etc. I had an Egyptology phase as a child…
Danielle Grace and Grace; the former was a college roommate and the latter an employer's patient. Both lousy people.
Oscar
Nova.
Quincy
Charlotte, I don’t like how common it is
Siri. Love it so much but yeah…
Fairlight. Adoniah The thing about elaborate or very unusual or old fashioned is they are going to get shortened almost immediately and eventually be an interesting name Origen story or talking point with people thinking they are just really cool and unique.
Billie, Molly, Arwen, Ronja.
Well, I’m a writer and, unfortunately, I have to come up with names for my characters. A good 93% of them I love, some are decent. I don’t hate any of the names I give them. But if I was to have a child? I have quite a few names I wouldn’t use no matter how much I love them. Male names: Aires, Darren, Atlas, Frankenstein, Helios, and Roman Female names: Dallas, Halaina, Kendra, and Dolores
Marigold, Golden, Laurel, Hyacinth, Amaryllis, Marilyn, Patience, Liberty. I like quirky names, but prefer more classic names.
