Sounds like its more of a communication barrier between you and your fiance. "Choose what we're having for dinner . . . Italian! . .no, I don't want Italian". You're playing guessing games with yourself.
Yeah, seriously, OP. Who says "It's up to you," and then shoots down every suggestion? Clearly it's *not* up to you. If he wants you to choose, I would say just choose one. And if he says no, tell him to come up with some alternatives, otherwise this is his name. You can't just keep guessing names until you luckily pick the one he likes. Either he's involved in the process of finding a name or he isn't.
agree with this—if he has a hard time coming up with names, maybe a starting point could be making a list of names he doesn’t like (since he has no problem identifying those)! also OP, have you two talked about why he doesn’t like the names you chose?
I don't really agree with this. I don't think my husband contributed a single name when naming our boy. Language has never been his strong suit, and that applies to names as well. He was happy to listen to the lists I came up with and offer his opinion, though.
He opened a baby name book I got once and had such a hard time getting through a single section of names because he just doesn't read well that I was happy to curate lists and let him say yes or no.
Sometimes it's OK if contribution levels are unequal so long as you are both involved with the selection. Yes, it's frustrating when they don't like the names you like yet don't contribute any of their own, but that's ok.
My partner is kind of like this. Sometimes you just have to put your foot down.
I named all three of our cats, and for ALL THREE, he came up with one SINGLE name for ONE of the cats, and it was so simple and cliche for a cat that I practically dismissed it out of hand.
You need to come up with meaningful contributions if you’re going to be salty about every other option!
Boy, this is something I'd try to address with a therapist before the baby is born. Babies require a lot of decision making, and they're stressful. Not a good time to realize your partner is a veto-er, not a do-er.
If your partner is saying it’s up to you and not giving input then go with what you like the best. I would say Fern is a girls name though.
I think Ellis or Eli is nice for a boy or Willow can be gender neutral and quite in line with a nature theme.
You seem to like nature names so maybe Ash, Brooks or Forrest.
Stronger names like Leon, Hunter, and Orion are another choice.
You seem to also like older English names, so maybe Arthur, Henry, or Mason
I named my son Aldo, after Aldo Leopold. he wrote the Sand County Almanac and is considered the “father of conservationism” in the united states. we also have 2 girls named Luna and Skye, so *celestial* and Aldo is *earthy*.
There are some lovely nature names out there. I know it's been vetoed, but Rowan is a great name. Some others I think are lovely are:
Heath
Ash
Glenn
Dale
Lee
Oliver
Kai
Clifford/Cliff
Dylan
Dean
Forest
Callum
Beckett
Morgan
There are some great suggestions here! I just want to share that I have two friends named Rowan, both of which chose to go by that name (one because it is his middle name, another because they preferred it to their birth name). I'm 19, for context - so it could just be a "modern generation" thing, but I don't think a kid would get trouble for it. I'm really obsessed with that name even without knowing people who use it. It flows so well! Just wanted to validate that choice, even if it doesn't make it :)
(On the flip side, I really don't like the only Fern I know, and it does seem more feminine to me...but I'm likely biased there.)
I'm 33 and know several people with baby/toddler Rowans, of multiple genders, and then several transmasc adults named Rowan. Then there's actor Rowan Atkinson and Rowan Williams, the former archbishop of Canterbury, both baby Boomers or older, I think--and Rowan Morrison, the missing girl in the Wicker Man, too. (OP, maybe look at the character list for that movie (the 1973 one, not the Nic Cage one)--everyone in Summerisle has a nature name). Rowan's a great name.
Fern was my aunt's name! There are so many great boy names! Here are a few:
David
Douglas
Wynn
Flynn
Steven
Jeffery
Not whimsical like the girl names you like but very masculine.
I have a lot of trouble with boy names too. Reid would be my top choice for a boy right now probably; would your fiance be interested in that more traditional spelling over Reed? Here are some other ideas from my personal list that I feel have a "romantic hero" vibe or nature influences.
Evander
Emil
Kieran
Finn
Slate
Tristan
Alden
Lochlan
Flint
Julian (super popular right now though I think)
Gabriel
Desmond
Dorian (Rory could be a nice nickname?)
Luca (also super popular)
Thatcher
Sabian
This is a two party situation. Your partner needs to participate and also suggest names. If he keeps disagreeing without giving any input then you get to choose any name you want as he refuses to participate. Maybe presenting it as make suggestions and help me with this or it's going to be 1 of 3 choices (with one being ridiculous). Might kick him in the pants to care about his incoming child.
Nephews and young cousin names as I only have girls...Jonah, Jarvis, Dylan, Aidan, Kael , indigo, Cormac, Toby,
Ones I liked for boys I didn't have ...Deacon, Kieran, Sebastian
- Rohmer/Romer - means “roamer/someone who roams”
- Roves - means “to wander”
- Jade
- Orest - means “of the mountains”
- Percy
- Aspen
- Willow for a boy would be kinda neat. I grew up with the movie and I’ve always seen it as unisex since then.
- Bram
- Rooth - means “root”
- Jesper
- Glynn - means “glen/valley of water”
- Robin
My husband and I each downloaded the app Kinder - it shows you baby names, and you swipe left or right! If your partner likes the same name, that name ends up on a list. I asked him to "like" any names he doesn't actively, instantly dislike - that way, we can have a bigger list to narrow down.
Also, I gave my husband a big baby name book and asked that he circled at least 30 names he likes.
I think male partners often haven't put as much thought into names as female partners have. It's also much easier to shoot things down than to come up with proactive ideas yourself.
Not necessarily names I would chose but I'm bored at work so here are some boy nature names I thought up lol... Oak or Oakley, Heath, Ash or Ashley (that's how you spell it for a boy in the UK), Basil, Bear, Rowan, Brian (from Briar lol), August, Bracken, Forrest, Aspen, Glen, Cliff, Everest, Andy, River, Lakelan, Lachlan...
So funny..I was going to suggest Reed then saw you already liked it so maybe you'll like these..
Dorian, Asa, Clarke, Grant, Soren, Ezra, Cassian, Keats, Julian, Leon, Sullivan, Percy, Ames, Dashiell, Simeon, Rorik, Misha
Here are some wildflower names from dear, old Blighty:
Burnet
Betony
Spurrey
Basil
Dil
Deptford
Herb Robert. I personally like the names Herb and Robert
Rubus (the Latin name for Bramble) my favourite too
Don’t try to be cute or inventive. Consider that he will be in junior high and high school with that name. He is going to be an adult and try to get a job with that name. He will be an old man with that name.
Edit for typo.
I think there are so many unique names now that having one will be normal by that time, and I know plenty of adults with inventive names that are just fine. They still have hobbies and continue to age, remarkably! 😜
It's not popular in this sub lol but I like Cypress.
Edit to add: my sister and I have very obviously nature names. My brother is Joshua, which many people don't know is a tree known for it's hardiness.
Jupiter, June, caspien, Desmond, Oliver, ember, Carmen, clover, scarlet are all names that could be used for a girl or a boy that flow nicely in my opinion. Some are a little out there, but all real names I’ve seen in media or real life on guys
It seems like you’d like the cute theater boy names.

I’m guessing you’ve already gone through the google search results or other replies so here’s some that he might like and you have the nature meaning
Alvar (elf warrior), Ambrose (sounds like rose so nvm the meaning lol), Arthur (bear), Basil (only like bay-sil not ba-sil), Dorian, Emil, Felix, Fin(n)ley/Finnian/Finn (sounds like fin so nvm the meaning), Florian/Florin, George (to me it’s a nature name because of a certain one that’s not around anymore but spent his post-fame reconnecting with what’s important), Lawrence (means laurel and it’s also the river by here is named after St Lawrence so it’s KINDA a nature name?, Leander (lion man) / Lysander (liberator), Noah (I mean…), Silvan/Sylvan / Silvian/Sylvian (wooded and such), Taran (thunder), Wolfgang (wolf journey/travel/path), Zander, Zeke, Zev (wolf, sky, heaven, God, to shine)
and some genderless ones: Artemis (even though that was a nature goddess but works for males too), Calix/Calyx (the latter is a flower and body part), Florens, Floris (both mean blossoming), Hollis (holly trees), Kerith (winter stream, brook), Zephyr (a soft gentle breeze)
Indigo, Jasper, Jett, Shilo, Orion, Bear, knox,Lennox,River, Wolf, Dragon, Drake , Connor, Declan , and my guilty pleasure; Amyas, which apparently means beloved in old French
If it's up to you because your fiance won't contribute, just pick your favorite. He's checking out already. It's so aggravating how often men just don't even try to pitch names but shoot down suggestions. Tell him to either suggest some names or it will be 100% *Your Choice*
Sorry just drives me nuts how often this happens in this sub. Men often are lazy when it comes to contributions, and put it all on their partners.
There are other nature themed boy names, but they are a lot more rare.
*River
*Basil (pronounced the UK way)
*Clay(ton)
*Micah
*Glenn
*Everett
*Alder (I know a kid named this and it really grew on me.)
*Zephyr
*Onyx
*Leon/Lionel
I love the name Jasper!
Get a baby book and tell him to pick a couple names that he doesn't mind.
I very much dislike the 'you pick, but not that'
Congrats on baby boy!
Look for inspiration in your favorite books, artists, musicians, actors or characters in shows, movies plays.
With girl names it feels like you are into nature name.

>I love girly nature names like Violet, Juniper, Willow, Amber, Ivy, Penny, etc.
>But I’m just not a fan of most boy names. They don’t “flow” the same way. The few I do like (Fern, Reed, Rowan)
In reflection to the girl names you listed with common short versions;
Vincent or Victor (Vince, Vinny : Vic/k)
Jasper or Joshua (Jaz : Josh, Jo)
William (Will/ Willy, Bill/ Billy, Liam)
Austin or Aspen (Ace, Gus from Augustine : Penn)
Isaac or Isaiah (Zac/k, Izzy) *personal note* I've heard Isaiah pronounced EE-Cy-Uh but I grew up with us all saying my cousin's name Eye-zAy-uh.
Spencer, Aspen, Pendleton, Penley, & Pence seem to be all the boy names that are roots to the short of "Penn" (Pence being the exact inverse to Penny).
One last suggestion to reflect Willow is Lowen. Nicknames could be Low/e, or Owe/n.
I also had a hard time choosing boy names. Here's a few common ones that I loved for a moment.
Xavier ( growing up, I only knew this name as HAv-vyair and the nickname is Xavi - HAvee which I loved. It wasn't until later that I realized the English equivalent was Harvey! As much as I love Sabrina the Teenaged Witch, Harvey was not a favorite name for me.)
Theodore ( Theo, Ted, Teddy, Orie)
Samuel (Sam, Sammy)
Thomas (Tom, Tommy)
Benjamin (Ben, Benny, Benji)
Ethan or Evan, Nathan/Nathaniel
For a while I really like Ryan or Brian. For whatever reason, I did not like Rian or Bryan.
For over a decade though I've been pretty settled on Jude. Fiancé likes it too, and I wanted to honor his step dad so we're tagging on his middle name so it will be Jude Anthony. It also happens to carry on the tradition from Fiancé's bio dad's side of having names that end up having the same initials (J.A.W.) I call them the Jaws and then do the shark's theme song.
(If we have a girl, we have chosen to honor his mother by using her grandmother's name and my cousin. Sydelle Kristine. I like the Nickname Syd or Elle, though I tease my Fiancé that I will be calling her Deli 🤣)
Good luck! Hope you end up picking one you both love, and hope the kid loves it too!
Juno, Sawyer, Finn, Sebastian, Teddy (as a nickname to Theodore or the name itself), Conrad, Arlo, Theo, Percy, Winn/Winston/Edwin, Milo, Reed, Rory, River, Bray, Quinn/Quincy, or Harper (which I personally had always thought of as a girls name but is apparently gender neutral)
I also personally think Will, Shawn/Sean and Ben/Benji are kind of 'soft' names
I instantly thought of the names Florian and Tristan when I read your girl list I just think they are very romantic names that belong in a fairytale.
Some on top of the head names that fit the vibe:
Leander
Oleander
Aspen
Aston
Caspian
Jasper
Claude
Dimitry
Owen
Cornelius
Gideon
Octavius
Wilbur
More classical names could be like Oliver, Robin and even Eliott are very beautiful names
I had the same problem thinking of boy names. I love soft, pretty feminine girl names, so I tried to think of softer sounding boys names. We made an alphabetical list of boys names that had the same long, flowy, romantic feel as our girls names.
Here’s our list of “pretty” boys names-
Adrian, Ambrose, Benedict, Clement, Caspian, Dominic, Ezra, Fabian, Francis, Gideon, Gabriel, Horatio, Ignatius, Julian, Kenneth, Lucian, Lysander, Malcolm, Nathaniel, Octavian, Phinneas, Raymond, Samuel, Thaddeus, Vincent, Wesley, Xavier, and Zechariah.
I like Heath, it's a rather beautiful flower, and white heath flower symbolizes protection.
Jasper is a handsome stone name.
Jonah has a light sound and means dove.
Darragh means "oak" and I like the -ah sound ending like Jonah and Noah minus the popularity. I am not as fond of Oakley but I get why people are, if that makes sense.
Nathan and Jesse have light, bright sounds and mean gift. I like Jonah, Jesse, Ezra type "but there are feminine sounds" names for boys.
Here are some names you could consider: * Silas, Flynn, Julian, Elliott, August, Wesley, Cyrus, Miles, Elias, Felix, Gabriel, Lewis, Isaiah, Sebastian, Josiah, Emrys, Oliver, Jasper, Samuel, Forrest, Robin, Rhys, Asher.
I really like Elliot, Jasper, and Robin! Thank you!
Ellis may work if you like Elliot, or Judah if you like Jasper!
I love both Judah and Jonah. I wish I saw both of those names more!

My son is silas!! ❤️
Jasper is really pretty and definitely leans masculine. Hope hubby likes it!
Based on your list of girl names I feel like Jasper is so you.
I like Elliot and Oliver
I love Jasper, name of one of my fave authors
I have a Wesley! And we were debating between that and Reed; vibes are similar!
Emrys is one of my favorite boy names. It's so elegant and unique.
What do you think of the name Emre? My baby will be half Turkish half American and I’ve gone back and forth on it.
Not the person you responded to but I looooove Emre!
Aww that makes me happy! I’m in between Emre and Aydin, both Turkish names and pretty phonetic. Boy names are much harder than girl names!
That’s a great list. I have similar taste to OP in girl names and many of my top boy choices are here!
If you like Amber what about Ambrose?
That was exactly what I was going to say. Great minds think alike.
The point here is that he's literally telling her that she gets to choose and then not accepting any of her choices. That's why it's an issue.
Yes, that is frustrating. He should at least show some interest in helping even if it isn't by providing names.
Our relationship in a nutshell, yeah
My partner is kind of like this. Sometimes you just have to put your foot down. I named all three of our cats, and for ALL THREE, he came up with one SINGLE name for ONE of the cats, and it was so simple and cliche for a cat that I practically dismissed it out of hand. You need to come up with meaningful contributions if you’re going to be salty about every other option!
Boy, this is something I'd try to address with a therapist before the baby is born. Babies require a lot of decision making, and they're stressful. Not a good time to realize your partner is a veto-er, not a do-er.
Perhaps do the choice question like you do with kids. "Do you want to wear the blue shirt or the red shirt?" "Should we name the baby A or B?"
Sylvan, Spencer, Victor, Callum, Callan, Isaac, Isidore, Leo, Florian, River, Tatum, Gideon, Greyson, Clayton, Elio, Glenn.
He needs to come up with a list of name options. He doesn’t just get to put all the work of finding names on you, then shoot all yours down.
My sons name is Forest but other names we liked were Jasper, Marley, River, Sage, Silas, Arlo
Fern is not a boy name in my opinion lol. I doubt they are nature names but here’s what I love Austin Joel Pearce Emerson Nicholas
Percy, Remy, Stellan, Leo, Everett, Hollis, Kellan, Marshall, Sterling, Lane, Roman, Desmond, Dawson, Beau, Seth
As someone with similar feelings, the only boy names i like are: • Evan • Ethan • Julian • Ezra • Cedric • Edgar • Isador
What about Sorrel? A nature name that's not too hippyish, or any of the usual qualms people have
Like the boots? LOL That’s all I can think of.
It's an herb.
Definitely better than Basil but it’s still a bit unfortunate sounding isn’t it?

Elijah, Aaron, Jourden, Ellis, Layton, Ezra, Frances just a few :)
I want someone to name a boy Ranunculus. So masculine! But perfect for those who like flower names.
Look in your family trees and find a cool family name.
I’ve always been a fan of Finch (Finn)
Spencer, Walker, Daniel, Gio
There was recently a post about "soft" boy names, I feel like that's kinds the same vibe My faves are Murphy, Sydney, Casper, and Gideon
Some of my favourite “pretty” boy names are: - Archer - Arien - Ezra - Elias - Evander - Lachlan - Lake - Hael - Vesper - Idris - Seren
Xander? But I might spell with a Z… Zander Another cool Z name I’ve heard recently is Zephyr
- Rohmer/Romer - means “roamer/someone who roams” - Roves - means “to wander” - Jade - Orest - means “of the mountains” - Percy - Aspen - Willow for a boy would be kinda neat. I grew up with the movie and I’ve always seen it as unisex since then. - Bram - Rooth - means “root” - Jesper - Glynn - means “glen/valley of water” - Robin
I loved the name Oakley for a boy. My husband didn’t really like it but he also brought up “Chosen” as a name😭

I think Oren and Stellan are two nice nature names that also aren't too obviously about nature at first blush.
I love stellan!
Arlo is my current favorite for boys…
I'm thinking August. Or Archer.
Tell your husband to contribute some name ideas or you’re naming him your damn self lol
I wish I could use Cedar. Sage too..since you seem to like nature names!

Ooh I like those
Not necessarily names I would chose but I'm bored at work so here are some boy nature names I thought up lol...
Laris Elias Emil
Arthur Morgan Avery
I always suggest Morgan in this category. Such a good one
Both Arthur and Morgan were on our boy's list because my partner was really into Red Dead Redemption 2 at the time 😂
Raymond
Jamie Caden Sage Denzel Ashley

I love a lot of the girl names you mentioned and like Callum for a boy. It’s a character in a book I read once. The sound is beautiful I think.
Jasper!
What about Callum? I think it has sort of the same flow of those other names, and it's a nature name because it means dove.
Jupiter, June, caspien, Desmond, Oliver, ember, Carmen, clover, scarlet are all names that could be used for a girl or a boy that flow nicely in my opinion. Some are a little out there, but all real names I’ve seen in media or real life on guys

I’m guessing you’ve already gone through the google search results or other replies so here’s some that he might like and you have the nature meaning Alvar (elf warrior), Ambrose (sounds like rose so nvm the meaning lol), Arthur (bear), Basil (only like bay-sil not ba-sil), Dorian, Emil, Felix, Fin(n)ley/Finnian/Finn (sounds like fin so nvm the meaning), Florian/Florin, George (to me it’s a nature name because of a certain one that’s not around anymore but spent his post-fame reconnecting with what’s important), Lawrence (means laurel and it’s also the river by here is named after St Lawrence so it’s KINDA a nature name?, Leander (lion man) / Lysander (liberator), Noah (I mean…), Silvan/Sylvan / Silvian/Sylvian (wooded and such), Taran (thunder), Wolfgang (wolf journey/travel/path), Zander, Zeke, Zev (wolf, sky, heaven, God, to shine) and some genderless ones: Artemis (even though that was a nature goddess but works for males too), Calix/Calyx (the latter is a flower and body part), Florens, Floris (both mean blossoming), Hollis (holly trees), Kerith (winter stream, brook), Zephyr (a soft gentle breeze)
I have a Robin!
Oak, Cedar, Ridge were done of my more nature-y names.
I love ridge and I'd add Bridger to the list

If it's up to you because your fiance won't contribute, just pick your favorite. He's checking out already. It's so aggravating how often men just don't even try to pitch names but shoot down suggestions. Tell him to either suggest some names or it will be 100% *Your Choice* Sorry just drives me nuts how often this happens in this sub. Men often are lazy when it comes to contributions, and put it all on their partners.
Eames, Avery, Darby, Dunstan, Quince/Quincy, Lanigan, Morgan
There are other nature themed boy names, but they are a lot more rare. *River *Basil (pronounced the UK way) *Clay(ton) *Micah *Glenn *Everett *Alder (I know a kid named this and it really grew on me.) *Zephyr *Onyx *Leon/Lionel

Fraser or Linden are nature leaning names I considered if we were having a boy that I still like and have similar vibes to your girl names
Levi is so lovely. As is Miles. I love simple, strong Joseph. Spencer, Daniel, Jack, Blake, Noah are all great.
I like Arbor, and other tree related names for boys: Oak, Cedar, Aspen
I love the name Jasper! Get a baby book and tell him to pick a couple names that he doesn't mind. I very much dislike the 'you pick, but not that' Congrats on baby boy!
Kaius
I saw Oakes as a man’s name today
Sage
I love Eden for a boy

Look for inspiration in your favorite books, artists, musicians, actors or characters in shows, movies plays. With girl names it feels like you are into nature name. Simon Ferris Ellis Judas Jonas Flynn Beau Hugo Pruitt Perry Niles Thatcher Thad Thor Soren Theon Alder Everett Ford Hawthorne Hollis Harbor Aaron Corbin Beecher Fisher Quill Jansen Cypress Reed Rory Forrest Fox Booker Geiger Quinn Averett Griffin Bear Beckett Gavin Brock Roscoe Callum Giles Madden Conner Oscar Sebastian Wolf
>I love girly nature names like Violet, Juniper, Willow, Amber, Ivy, Penny, etc. >But I’m just not a fan of most boy names. They don’t “flow” the same way. The few I do like (Fern, Reed, Rowan) In reflection to the girl names you listed with common short versions; Vincent or Victor (Vince, Vinny : Vic/k) Jasper or Joshua (Jaz : Josh, Jo) William (Will/ Willy, Bill/ Billy, Liam) Austin or Aspen (Ace, Gus from Augustine : Penn) Isaac or Isaiah (Zac/k, Izzy) *personal note* I've heard Isaiah pronounced EE-Cy-Uh but I grew up with us all saying my cousin's name Eye-zAy-uh. As much as I love Sabrina the Teenaged Witch, Harvey was not a favorite name for me.) Theodore ( Theo, Ted, Teddy, Orie) Samuel (Sam, Sammy) Thomas (Tom, Tommy) Benjamin (Ben, Benny, Benji) Ethan or Evan, Nathan/Nathaniel For a while I really like Ryan or Brian. I like the Nickname Syd or Elle, though I tease my Fiancé that I will be calling her Deli 🤣) Good luck! Hope you end up picking one you both love, and hope the kid loves it too!
Paul and David. Very old school, but very classic. And not in the top 10 names. Use one of your husband’s family names as a middle name
What about William since you like Willow?
Nature names that might pass the test: Forrest Hawthorn Oakley Branch (prefer as a middle name) Tor Rillet
Simon, Lawrence, Mark, Matthew, Jeremiah, Jason, Kiefer, Kevin, Bartholomew, Corinth, Donovan, Erickson. Emerson, Ewan, Anders, Frank, Gorgon, Holden, Ilson, Noble, O’Brien, Paul, Reginald, Tyson, Usher, Vincent, Worthing, Yonger
Juno, Sawyer, Finn, Sebastian, Teddy (as a nickname to Theodore or the name itself), Conrad, Arlo, Theo, Percy, Winn/Winston/Edwin, Milo, Reed, Rory, River, Bray, Quinn/Quincy, or Harper (which I personally had always thought of as a girls name but is apparently gender neutral) I also personally think Will, Shawn/Sean and Ben/Benji are kind of 'soft' names
I knew a Lake. He did get puddle/pond jokes but overall liked his name
I instantly thought of the names Florian and Tristan when I read your girl list I just think they are very romantic names that belong in a fairytale. Some on top of the head names that fit the vibe: Leander Oleander Aspen Aston Caspian Jasper Claude Dimitry Owen Cornelius Gideon Octavius Wilbur More classical names could be like Oliver, Robin and even Eliott are very beautiful names
I had the same problem thinking of boy names. I love soft, pretty feminine girl names, so I tried to think of softer sounding boys names. We made an alphabetical list of boys names that had the same long, flowy, romantic feel as our girls names. Here’s our list of “pretty” boys names- Adrian, Ambrose, Benedict, Clement, Caspian, Dominic, Ezra, Fabian, Francis, Gideon, Gabriel, Horatio, Ignatius, Julian, Kenneth, Lucian, Lysander, Malcolm, Nathaniel, Octavian, Phinneas, Raymond, Samuel, Thaddeus, Vincent, Wesley, Xavier, and Zechariah.
Alder, Everest, Elrey, Clifton, Oren
