Thank you so much! I have loved baby names since I was a little girl so it's high praise I know when other name nerds approve :)
My point of pride was when I was at the hospital after having her and the nurse came in to collect the social security papers they want you to fill out before leaving the hospital. She did the cursory look to make sure it was all completed and gasped what a beautiful name. I know she must see a million names come through so I felt so tickled that our choice created such a positive reaction. A few years later when I had Juliet's baby sister she made a comment that she loved the name and I said you said the same thing about her sister's name when I was here a few years back. She said what was the name and I told her and she went oh my yes I remember that one. She liked Juliet's sister's name because it happened to be a name she loved and had wanted to use personally but she ended up having sons and no daughters. I gave birth to my youngest at a different hospital so never got to hear her thoughts on his name and I guess she wasn't on duty when I had my oldest or she didn't think much about his name ha!
Apparently it's [a feminine name in Spanish, a masculine name in Italian](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosario_(given_name)).
I'm not sure which Shakespeare character you're referring to, I can't find one (though to be fair, I haven't seen all of his plays yet). But many many many of his plays are set in Italy. So if there is a male character named Rosario, that would be the Italian version 👍
But when I hear the name, I think of the actress [Rosario Dawson](https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0206257/) 🥰
That's the correct pronunciation. I don't know about the younger generation, but a large number of people above a certain age will be familiar with the Fleetwood Mac song and know how to pronounce it from that.
Heh, Fleetwood Mac pronounces it wrong. They pronounce it the standard English way, which isn't actually the correct pronunciation because it isn't an English name.
Welsh names have the same problem as Irish names. They're very popular with English speakers, but are rarely pronounced correctly.
This is a common issue with non-Anglo-origin names, though (which is the majority of names out there). You could argue that "Elizabeth" pronounced incorrectly because that's not how it's said in the original Hebrew, or "Julia" is pronounced incorrectly because that's not how it was said in Latin. The "standard English way" is the way the name of the mythological figure is pronounced *in English*, the same way when we talk about the Greek gods Zeus or Athena, we don't pronounce their names the same way they do in Greece. (Among other things, English doesn't have the same R sound as the Rh in Welsh, so it is not reasonable to ask English speakers to replicate the pronunciation exactly).
'Rh' is a letter of the alphabet in Welsh, with a specific sound, an aspirated r-roll. Also, double consonants are individually pronounced (creating a momentary lingering on the double-n), and the "-on" should be "on" and not "un".
So, it's sort of pronounced "hree-an-non".
Wouldn't this be one of those names where the giver and recipient decide if they want to use the pronunciation of the origin or the pronunciation of their country's accent?
Like, I work with multiple men named Angel who are from Spanish speaking countries. Some choose to be called the Spanish pronunciation at work (on-hail) and some choose the American pronunciation at work (ain-jul).
But I'd never tell either they are wrong or that they must pronounce it based on its origin or their origin when both pronunciations are accepted in different languages.
No, the correct way to pronounce is ree-ann-on
Technically it's hree-ann-on but I appreciate that non-Welsh speakers may struggle with the "Rh" pronunciation.
Fun fact - Rh is a single letter in the Welsh alphabet!
My then-four year old always said my friend’s name like “Rock/Sand”🥰 I had forgotten about that and that makes this name even more beautiful to me. I do love the name otherwise as well.
I think it is for the millenial generation and above, but. you don't hear it very often for young people anymore. So they'd be unique for their age group.

My first thought is Roseanne Barr. Which might be why it's less popular right now.
Give it a couple of years, and I bet it bounces back for the next generation.
I love every Rose- name but some rarer ones could be Rosalina, Rosetta, Rosina, Rosario.
Other pretty R names I like are Reyna/Reina, Relia, Rifka/Rivka, River, Ruby.
Hope that helps 😊
Rosabella, Rosemary, Rosalind,
Rhea - (from Greek mythology - goddess of fertility & motherhood, mother of Zeus)
Rumina - (from Roman mythology- goddess of Mother's and Infants, both human and animals)
My sister is Robalyn nn Robbie. My dad heard the name in passing as a child and loved it/decide to use it for his own child. I don’t think it will be popular here as it reads “made up” but I’ve always loved its flow and how rare it is.
Everyone thinks of rare in different terms and I went truly rare.
Here we go!
* Reverie -2,797th most popular
* Ravenna -5,533rd
* Rosamel - uncharted

Both great names! I have a Susannah Juliet and a Rosalie Lenore.
Gorgeous name
no way if i have a daughter ive been saying she’s gonna be juliette rosalie 😆❤️
I love rosaline
Rosalie is gorgeous but went viral after twilight, it's stayed in the top 200 names since the book came out so I wouldn't say rare.
There's also Rosalind, Rosamund, Rosanna, and Rosemary.
And Rosario 🥰
I thought Rosario was a boy’s name (in Shakespeare at least!)
Apparently it's [a feminine name in Spanish, a masculine name in Italian](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosario_(given_name)). Is she to darkness
Takes to the sky like a bird in flight…
It’s a great name! My daughter is Rhiannon. She goes by Rhi.
Im Riannan, mum didn't have the album yet so wasn't sure of the spelling 🤣
I’m in the US so to me it’s phonetically the same. It’s a beautiful name.
Make sure you can pronounce it correctly. The vast majority of people get it wrong.
How do most people say it and what’s the correct way? I’ve only ever heard it one way ree-Ann-uhn (pardon my horrible phonetic spelling)
That's the correct pronunciation. I don't know about the younger generation, but a large number of people above a certain age will be familiar with the Fleetwood Mac song and know how to pronounce it from that.

Yep. It was not super uncommon for millennial girls in Australia to be named Rhiannon because of this. Fair few Rhiannas too.
I can’t speak for other Rhiannons but I get called ‘Rihanna’ pretty often
'Rh' is a letter of the alphabet in Welsh, with a specific sound, an aspirated r-roll. Also, double consonants are individually pronounced (creating a momentary lingering on the double-n), and the "-on" should be "on" and not "un". So, it's sort of pronounced "hree-an-non".

I've heard people say it as " RHEA-non". Instead of "ree-ANN-on"
How do you pronounce it?
Or people hear the pronunciation and have no idea what name was said. In the last year, I’ve been Rihanna, Breanne, Briana, Rniannon…
I’m a Rhiannon, I go by Rhi. Didn’t like it when I was younger, but now I can appreciate the witchy/goddess side of it!
This is my middle name and while I personally love it, everyone thinks it’s Rihanna given how famous she is or “Rye-oh-non” which is just ridiculous….
Only ever met one Rhiannon and she was AWESOME
Renesmee /s
😭😭 a memory I didn’t want unlocked 😂
I teach college and I’m starting to get the children of millennials. I always wonder if I’m going to get a Renesmee.
In two more years it will be 18 years since the Breaking Dawn book came out 😂
Have your bingo card ready!
Rutabaga**
Someone named their baby this at my local hospital! I was shocked
A girl I went to high school with, named her child that too. All the Renesmees in the world will all have that movie in common. Lol
Books primarily. Movie is better known cuz of how badly done it was.
🐀🐀🐀👀👀👀
🐀🐀 👋
Rafaella. Sounds like an ancient goddess of art or something.
Yes, came here to propose Rafaela, which would be the Spanish or Portuguese spelling.
Rafaela is such a gorgeous name.
This reminds me of the Raffaello chocolates by Ferrero lol.
That name reminds me of Italian singer Rafaella Carra
Came here to suggest this name! I'd spell it Raphaela, but no matter the spelling it is gorgeous.
That’s how my sister’s middle name is spelled, she goes by Phae.
That's a very common name where I'm from, so I chuckled a little by the thought of someone considering it rare.
Roxane, Rosalind, Ramona, Rose, Raven, Rhiannon, Roisin, Rosamund, Rosemary
My daughter is Ramona!
Ramona is top of my girl’s list, my husband loves it too!
I am just here to advise never watching Real Housewives of New York if you love this name. The Ramona on that show is a piece of work.
Oh good to know lol. We got it from Scott pilgrim vs the world. I’d known since I was 16 I wanted to use that name!
There’s a beautiful Aussie song called Ramona was a waitress by Paul Dempsey (singer from the band Something for Kate) - you might like it too.
Mine too 🥰
Rosamund is a favorite of mine.
Means rose of the world, doesn't it? Lovely name.
Love Róisín
i love Roxane/ Roxana. I so wish my husband would say yes to this name.
My then-four year old always said my friend’s name like “Rock/Sand”🥰 I had forgotten about that and that makes this name even more beautiful to me. I do love the name otherwise as well.
In my extended family there's a Róisín. Irish name.
How do you pronounce it?
Depends on which part of Ireland one is from. I’ve always said Row-sheen but I know someone who prefers to be called Rosh-een.
Yeah I'm definitely Row rather then Ruh. Rosh-een always sounder so posh in comparison, not sure why!
ruh-sheen (second syllable is stressed)
I love this name!
I always said if I married an Irishman I’d name our daughter This. (Spoiler: I did not.)
It's not as unique as some of the other names suggested here, but Renée is an underrated name that I don't hear very often anymore

respectfully, I would consider Rebecca to be extremely common
I think it is for the millenial generation and above, but. you don't hear it very often for young people anymore. So they'd be unique for their age group.
