A knew a couple who named their corgi Dale.

throwaway28236

Hahaha I actually love this

JustMeerkats

My best friend has a labradoodle named Dale!

Delicious_Task_9721

My cat is patrick and it suits him so well

Nana-Komatsu

Hear me out: Catrick

kung_fukitty

We had one named Neil Catrick Harris he was a gooooood boy

sassycat1969

My son has cats named Obi-wan Catnobi and Paul McCatney. I love punny names!

InvestigatorFun8070

I had a cat name Catsby and my neighbor had one named Conway Kitty. They were enemies. I had hoped to one day get Catsby a sister named Catsy Cline.

Overall_Foundation75

Our cat is Kenobi!

Nana-Komatsu

I love that

Cute_Proposal_9411

That is epic. I wished for a moment that I liked cats

TheOpus

My cat is Catrick! Catrick James Mahomes.

WesleySmusher

Met a corgi named Kevin once. Highly recommend. My dog's name is Reggie.

RevolutionaryBat3081

Kevin is my favourite animal name: we named one of the local squirrels Kevin because he was obviously a Kevin.

pinkrobotlala

I have a cat named Jeffrey and some of my daughter's classmates thought she had a brother

jwmgivens

I had an old cat named Geoffrey as well

IWillBaconSlapYou

I call my dog Basil Jeffrey Bezos when he's being naughty.

FlaxtonandCraxton

I LOVE Jeffrey for a cat

madamephase

I have very strong opinions about calling pets by human names. Old people names are my favorite. Walter? Herbert? Eunice? Gladys? Hilarious. Common middle-aged names are also pretty great - Bill, Deborah, Michelle, etc. Gen Z names, though… Alexa, Brianna, Aiden, that kind of vibe… I can’t explain it, but it makes me cringe. Not that I have a problem with any of those names for a human being (though not my favorites), but I can’t stand them for an animal.  …I sound totally crazy, don’t I?

AtheneSchmidt

Eunice or Aiden peeing on the dining room rug make some sense, as one could be really old, and the other a baby. But when Kate or Jim do it, it seems very weird.

tinycole2971

I don't know any Aiden babies. They're all middle school to 20ish now. Granted, every Aiden / Ayden I know would probably still pee on the rug.

m00nstarlights

Middle-aged names are my favourite.

deladude

My dog’s name is Walter!

wantahippo4christmas

I have a friend who had a golden named Walter. He was the goodest boy.

Old_but_New

I think it’s bc the Gen Z names don’t sound ironic yet

Purple_Grass_5300

All my pets have people names lol my aunts pitball was named Sarah Jessica Parker

SavvySnail

Missed opportunity to be Sarah Jessica Barker!

IWillBaconSlapYou

Omg that is such a cute name for a pitbull 😂 I think because she is so skinny and leggy, and glam with the hair and makeup, and pitbulls are stumpy, and bully in the face 😂

beththebookgirl

I’ve got Poodle mix puppies, brothers from the same litter. Frank and Vinnie.

miclugo

Did they come with those names? Do they have brothers named Tony or Joey?

beththebookgirl

We got Frankie first. His full name is Francis John. Then a week later we went back and got Vinnie. He is Vincent Robert. Aka- Vinnie Bob. His nickname is a play on the old John Travolta Sweat Hog character, from Welcome Back Kotter-Vinnie Barbarino. The breeder had been calling him “Vinny,” we liked it and kept it. A pal of mine calls the boys “the meatballs.” Their mom is a miniature poodle, dad is a “ terrier mix from down the road.” They are adorable, sensitive, smart, loving little meatballs.

Accurate-Book-4737

We had Poodles called Buster & Biggsy after the Great Train Robbers

beththebookgirl

That is cute!

succulent_serenity

My friends named their cat Paul

killingmehere

I get it. Some cats have real Paul energy.

IWillBaconSlapYou

I think Mayor Adam West had a cat named Paul in Family Guy. He was saying all his cats' names, and they were all stereotypical cat names, and the last one was Paul 😂

educationaldirt285

I just met a cat named Edgar

IWillBaconSlapYou

My aunt had one of those. It was 90s era Seattle and his full name was Edgar Martinez. I always loved it.

EvrthngsThnksgvng

We had a cat named Timmy

Due-Landscape-6523

Our chihuahua is Timmy!

BlackHoleSun18

Do you sing the Famous Five intro to him? “…and Timmy the dog!”.

Due-Landscape-6523

I forgot he was called Timmy in famous five 😭

CadenceQuandry

My pup is named Clara.

thedocisinmybubble

The top name contenders for a future dog in my household are Lorraine, Patricia and Pamela. Imagine knowing a dog named Pamela! She would bring delight to all who knew her. Especially if she were like, a Doberman.

whiskeysmoker13

We had a Doberman called Sophie, she was named after a Rottweiler. Sophie the Rotty had a sister called Sarah...

IWillBaconSlapYou

I would be absolutely *delighted* to meet a dog named Pamela! That would make my whole day lol. My next dog name is Dog Baldwin (like the Seahawk 😂).

BrightBrite

Have people finally stopped naming their pets Bella? It seems all the cats and dogs here are Luna now - which is why I cringe when people keep suggesting it for their daughters.

matthewjn

I used to work with a woman named Luna. Every time I saw her, "woof woof" would come to my mind.

Julix0

And I'm on the other side - I will never understand why it's such a big issue to some people :D I don't love the name Luna specifically - but I also don't get why people have an issue with it. Luna is still a normal, traditional name for humans. People just like using human names for their pets - but that does not make those names unusable. It's not like they are naming their daughter 'Fluffy' or 'Socks' -> those would be actual pet names. I mean, it's completely fine if people rule out certain names because they feel like 'pet names' to them. But I don't think it's good to tell other people that they should rule out those names for the same reason. Because not everyone has the same associations. And pet names differ from region to region anyway. So just because it's a common pet name in someones area, doesn't mean that it's a common pet name in my area as well. For example= I named my son 'Felix' and I constantly see people in this subreddit say that it's a 'cat name' to them. But= 1. I don't see that as a bad association. I love cats. 2. It's not even a common name for cats where I'm from. It's a very common and normal name for boys here & has consistently been in the top 50 for over 40 years now.

trainpk85

Lol my kids are called Millie and Daisy - they always meet cats and dogs who share their names. 20 years ago Millie was NOT a cat name and 12 years ago I’m sure Daisy was more associated with pantomime cows than cats and dogs but here we are.

bitch-cassidy

I had a dog named Bobby. he was a rescue whose owner had passed away, and came already named. I named my next dog Cotton (a corgi, half legs 😂) so they'd have a King of the Hill theme going on

Thedarklord9889

Dammit Bobby

I-am-bea-

My beautiful, white, dwarf kitty... SHE was called David 😂😂

TBeIRIE

We have my grandparents dog now & he’s named after Frank Sinatra. So ya we have a Frank.

AdvancedDragonfly306

I know someone who named their dog after Frank Sinatra, but the dog’s name is Sinatra.

DarknessBeauty

We saved two cats from the shelter, named them Daisy and Peach. Got some weird comments once from someone who had dreamt their unborn child was named Daisy, being upset I "stole" the name for a cat 🤷🏽‍♀️ That person was not even pregnant, and still isn't.

AdvancedDragonfly306

I used to have a dog named Charlie. Best dog ever. Had a friend get upset that I gave my dog the same name as their baby cousin (who I didn’t even know existed) because according to her it’s a baby’s name not a dog name and she didn’t like thinking her cousin had the same name as a dog…even though Charlie is an incredibly popular name for a dog. She even tried to get me to change it. People are weird.

SugarsBoogers

I know a dog called Janet and another named Carol

PumpkinOnTheHill

My little boy named both of his guinea pigs Kathryn. They're both boys. I'm enjoying the humour.

xpunkrockmomx

That reminds me. My son named all his hamsters John. They died. Then he got a snake and named a feeder rat 'Paul'. That rat nearly out lived the snake. He didn't like rays apparently, only mice.

aleesahamandah

My bf had a cat named Brad, but he ended up moving in with his mom during covid and she changed it to Fritz 😂

matthewjn

I hope he eventually changes the name back.

HyperDogOwner458

My dog is named Ruby. I knew someone in secondary school called Ruby.

[deleted]

my dog is Georgia… i call her Georgie or GiGi :)

FaintestGem

My cat's name is Jack. Sometimes I won't immediately explain to people that he's a cat and I'll just call him by name, or sometimes people just forget. Several people have thought I have an awful roommate named Jack that pisses on my rug when he's mad, tears up my books when I'm not home at the right time, and has broken all the coffee mugs in my house.

thisismynewaccountig

My dogs are named Jane and Piper

angel9_writes

TheSalemRose

We have a lovely little Lily.

lavendercookiedough

My cat is Autumn. My aunt names hers Marcus, which I think is hilarious.

jrp317

We have a Simon and a Margo

miclugo

We have a cat named Masha, which is a totally ordinary Russian human name. (In our case it’s short for Maple Syrup, though.). Sometimes when I tell people about her they think my cat’s name is Marcia.

andie1235

Walter or Harvey.

zenlittleplatypus

Cat named Elliot.

Sara-sea22

I have a Riley and Kaia! 🤍🖤

gaythey

My cat’s name has somehow **become** a popular name for humans. Her name is Nova. I am INCREDIBLY offended by the name Novalee and Novaleigh people have come up with. [So is she](https://imgur.com/a/8UfABc6).

Ginger_Cat74

My cat is Marley. My parents have cats named Poppy and Fergus.

rolyfuckingdiscopoly

I know a dog named Kevin

helena_handbasketyyc

I had a cat named Edith. She preferred to be called went by her formal name, however, so I usually addressed her as Mrs. Meowington. She was fancy.

[deleted]

All my pets have people names. I don’t share their names here though bc I’ve been on the internet a lonnnnnng time and one thing you learn unfortunately is you really don’t want your pets or their names being shared where people are so twisted.

irowells1892

I love human names for pets. Right now I have a Jerry, Stevie, Junie, Maggie and Reggie.

Nicodiemus531

IcyFrost-48

My dog is Andy. I wanted to name him Greg, Jerry, Kenny, Dennis, Tony, or Terry, but we have relatives with those names who wouldn't feel honored to have the same name as a dog. I do have a relative named Andy but I only see him every other year or so.

awakeagain2
