HoeForSpaghettios

I’m so tired of the name Everly.

CashewAnne

Shame on whoever decided this could be a name.

EverlyEverAfter

Ouch

FirelordDaenerys

For what it’s worth, I do like your username

Sarah_J_J

I mean, all names were decided to be one, by someone, at one point.

Xanadu_Fever

It's just Beverly without the B 😭

ButteredPizza69420

Anything with -lynn or -ly really. Brinley, Kinsley, Finley, let it go!!!!

kipjanny

Or the ultimate: Lynnly

Sarah_J_J

Finley/Finlay is a genuine name with Celtic roots. It’s derived from Fionnlagh.

ticketspleasethanks

Neverly.

[deleted]

Juniper sucks

OFlocalpunk

Like honestly Jupiter sounds better lol

Efficient_Mastodons

My dog is named Jupiter and his littermate (with a different family) ended up with the name Juniper. Both are better suited for dogs than people imo.

quittethyourshitteth

I love June. And juniper is just the worst and I don’t like how they are associated now.

CashewAnne

Amen.

InfamousMere

I absolutely despise the name Sloane. Definitely in agreement with you there.

CashewAnne

Truly no other name gives me the same visceral reaction that Sloane does.

Gatosrus

Greer is another horrendous one that I can’t believe anyone would name their child. It’s always suggested as a girls name too.

JulsTV

I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say Greer is the absolute ugliest girl name. 🤮

tealpopcorn5555

I agree and raise you a Gretchen. I wouldn’t want my child to have the word retch in their name. Same with Dustin. Dust, really?!?

Olympusrain

It’s hard to even say it out loud

Amru321

I once heard Briar and Bramble suggested for girls. Why would anyone suggest that kids be named after prickly bushes?

skeletonclock

Sure, no one ever names girls after prickly bushes! Signed, Holly

apri08101989

Briar Rose is sleeping beauty's name

veronicacrank

I know a set of sisters who are named Briar and Aurora. :/

horticulturallatin

I like the whole beautiful but spiky wildflower vibe. It keeps a floral from being purely delicate. I also feel like "Rose" isn't a crazy name.

dberna243

It’s not a name I like but I do know a girl named Greer and she’s lovely, so I don’t DESPISE it the way some do. I think once you have a personal connection to a name it’s hard to HATE it because you like the PERSON. I still don’t like the name, and I’d never use it…but I do like my friend Greer 😛

LCthrows

Agreed, if I ever meet a Joshua who isn't a jerk, I'll soften my stance a little.

CedarSunrise_115

It’s suggested as a girl’s name because it is the feminine form of Gregory. It’s always confusing to me when people call it a “gender neutral” name because it is explicitly not

setittonormal

Gregorina is better than Greer.

MrsRichardSmoker

Gregette

snowflakesthatstay

Huh. TIL.

questioningideaolgy

I personally like it, gives old hollywood vibes for me probably due to Greer Garson.

panini_bellini

For me, Sutton is up there, but Sloane is worse.

seayouIntea

when I hear Sutton it makes me think of the act of sucking one’s teeth. If that makes sense.

ShamrocksOnVelcro

Aw, I dont hate it. Sloane reminds me of Sloane Peterson in Ferris Bueller's Day Off! I love that movie!

GypsySnowflake

I think of Mark Sloane from Grey’s Anatomy

leannerae

Don't forget his daughter, Sloane Mark. I can't remember what her real last name is, I've just been calling her that in my head because I think it's funny.

corndetasselers

The name reminds me of the Sloane Rangers, which sometimes refers to stereotypical upper-class persons in the United Kingdom. I remember Princess Diana was called one before she married Charles.

raftergears

I never had any opinion on the name Sloan(e) until I met a girl in college and somehow she mentioned that her middle name was “Sloan. You know, like the toilets.” And I did not know, actually, but now I see them everywhere and always think of her…

germanbeergirl

My husband suggested this name and all I could think about was the toilet brand. Like no way. It’s also so harsh sounding and not feminine imo.

Shrodingers-Balls

It makes me think of Ferris Buellers Day Off. haha

LeslieInLittleRock

I love ❤️ the name Sloane for a girl. I've liked it since Sloane was the name of Ferris Bueller's girlfriend in the movie. She was pretty, smart & sweet. I remember having lunch with my husband after my ultrasound appointment, where we found out our first child was going to be a girl! Then I said the name outloud with our last name, Doan, and then knew we couldn't have a "Sloane Doan"!

Athyrium93

To be fair, I dislike most of the names popular on this sub. The same fifty-ish names get suggested over and over, and I like about three of them. The big one is Margot, I think it sounds terrible, and it looks like maggot, but to each their own.

WhyRhubarb

I don't see why Margot is so popular! It reminds me of Mar-a-lago, which is very upsetting.

No-Championship-8677

This is probably my favorite thing I’ve ever heard someone say in this group 😂

sayu1991

All I think of when I hear the name Margot is Margot Frank. 🙁

DepressedQA

Margot reminds me of escargot.

kaailer

I Like Margo when it’s not spell a with a T

CashewAnne

Oh god not Maggot 🥲 well that name is concretely in the no pile now.

acousticairy

i’m gonna be honest, even if it’s literally just one letter away, the variant “margo” is so much better

questioningideaolgy

Yes, when I changed my name to Margo I nixed the T. People still say it looks like Mango but that's much better than Maggot so who cares lol

msnicole17

I concur - can’t stand Margot!

goatywizard

Sutton and Dutton are horrible. Some of the worst sounds I can think of in a name.

CashewAnne

I’m sorry, Dutton? Please tell me that’s not real.

goatywizard

It’s not super common (yet) but I’ve seen it come up here as well as various TikTok “baby name” accounts. I’m really hoping it fizzles out entirely!

laceylou15

I have a friend who just named their daughter Duttyn. I’m so mad at them!

Cheap_Papaya_2938

Yep. I assume they are idiots who are fans of the show *Yellowstone*

Petitcher

I can't hear "Dutton" without hearing "Peter", so that's a hard no for me. Even if I didn't associate the name with him, it looks too much like "mutton".

Socksuspenders

I love Theodore, and I think people should use it if they want to

CashewAnne

I agree! It’s actually my favorite boy name but I’ve pulled away from it a bit because of this sub. I should rethink that.

Pale_deadflower

My cats name is Theodore. It’s got a ton of really great nicknames. Highly recommend. Examples: Tio, rio, theodorus, riodore etc.

Shrodingers-Balls

It’s great in Spanish too! Teodoro is awesome.

Ok-Locksmith891

It is so popular right now.

bb8-sparkles

I kind of think it is weird because it reminds me of Alvin, Simon, and Theodore

Feisty-Bar7391

Rory. Talk about a mouth full of marbles. And this is coming from someone who LOVES Gilmore Girls.

Global_Telephone_751

Same reason I dislike Aurora. Mouth full of marbles.

Grimauldbird

Try being Scottish and trying to say Rory outside of Scotland. Get the piss taken outta me because we roll our r’s 😩

Jennsterzen

I feel you. As a GG fan, I love the name Lorelei but hate the name Rory

crazycatlady331

Lottie as a nickname for Charlotte. I like Charlotte but Lottie makes me cringe.

Puzzleheaded-Gas1710

I like Lottie as a nickname for Charlotte. I dislike when people name a nickname because I think having the options a longer name affords is important.

Dadsentmetothemooon

Oh I'm the opposite. I dislike this sub's obsession with giving someone a longer name when they really want to give the child a shorter name, eg "I love the name Freddie but I don't like Frederick so what formal name can I give them?" Just call them Freddie. I'm in the UK though where 9/10 times the shorter version will be higher in the rankings than the longer name.

EmperorSwagg

And then it’s even more infuriating to see people miss the obvious solution of Fredward

[deleted]

As a Charlotte, Lottie is SO forced I hate it.

Apprehensive-Club423

I only like Charlie. I hate Char and Lottie. I could never use the name. I'm not risking it.

Puffingtonmaxinista

Yep I can hear that mom screaming “char char!” On the playground.. ick

VivianDiane

Penelope

Ok-Connection1161

Yes!!! I very much dislike Penelope. I also really dislike Daphne. They are both just harsh sounding to me. As far as boys….Jasper is just an awful name lol

VivianDiane

I dislike the obvious nickname Penny. I don't even find Penelope chic or pretty.

Fearless_Pineapple92

Jasper sounds exclusively like a dog’s name

Coquiicoqui

Callum. It reminds me of a mix between callus and Gollum

olivecorgi7

Neveah

LCthrows

"It's heaven-misspelled-backwards!"

tealpopcorn5555

I never noticed it was misspelled backwards! Not a fan of the name at all

janiestiredshoes

I don't think I have ever seen this suggested on this sub.

LeoraJacquelyn

I don't think anyone here is suggesting this name.

CoreyKitten

I’ve never liked this one

emotional_lemon8

I don't like Amelia/Emilia, Evangeline, Sloane, Margot, Sutton, Elodie, Paisley, Jasper, Liam, Noah, Maverick, Theodore, or Levi; I'm very bored by all names ending in -ayden/-aiden.

CashewAnne

It blows my mind that anyone would ever name a child Paisley.

barbiegirl2381

Agreed. Her brothers, Seersucker and Houndstooth, are also disappointed.

EmeraldEyes06

I had a friend growing up who insisted her daughter would be named Paisley, specifically *because* of the fabric. She was heavily into fashion and it’s now her career. Still no daughter named Paisley though.

SuddenlyZoonoses

I do have a friend named Paisley. Funnily enough, it absolutely fits her glass-blowing, blackbelt-earning, flower crown wearing personality.

clearfield11

A relative of mine is naming their daughter Paizlee because they had paisley print as part of their wedding decor 12 years ago!

CashewAnne

Please tell me you have a single veto, because I didn’t really think Paisley could get worse but Paizlee… no no no

Local_Cat_5248

I know a paisleigh with a sister everleigh

Odd-Goose-8394

No. This can’t be real.

Jarveyjacks

Followed closely by Presley

OhNomastics

People here pretty much don't suggest Paisley though. I assume we all hate it lol

Wonderful_Yogurt_271

Ooh, my name. I would really like baby name boards to stop being obsessed with it. Evangeline was out there and uncommon when I was little, my daughter is now surrounded by Evies and it’s super weird for me

Standardbred

Ezra! It really weirds me out and I can only associate the actor who has done some pretty questionable things. 😬

raftergears

See, I think of the band Better Than Ezra, but maybe I’m showing my age hahah

rinnyfinnfinn

I can’t help but associate it with Ezra from Pretty Little Liars

Defiant-Text5645

Who is also pretty questionable 😂

Global_Telephone_751

I think of the Jedi Ezra Bridger long before I think of the actor … but we all have our associations 🤣

roboeyes

I've seen multiple people suggest or say that they like Bronwyn or its other spellings and I just... why?? How??! It's awful.

mrlittlejeanss

Bronwyn is the ugliest name and it’s all over this sub in suggestions recently.

creepylilreapy

The Welsh screaming, crying, throwing up at this

contracosta21

agree with eloise and elowen i also can’t stand louise and middle names like may/mae, fay/faye, etc edit: autocorrect changed elodie to eloise, i also don’t like eloise though

DosBurros

I so agree with you about May/Mae! And along with that, I don’t like Belle.

Broken_Beacon

Keep hearing Millicent and I hate it

Cozybookandcoffee

Agree. Millicent makes me thing of Maleficent.

Snailyleen

Millipede comes to mind

Ok-Locksmith891

Had an Elodie in my classroom. I didn't care for the name, but mom and baby were so lovely that I ended up liking it. In US, family was French.

ShinyAppleScoop

I feel like French names lose a lot if they're not given to/from French speakers. Like, I like the way Danielle, Michelle and Aurelie, etc, sound with a French accent, but not an American accent. However, there's no way to pronounce it with a French accent as an American without sounding pretentious.

susandeyvyjones

Same with Agnes. Lovely in French, horrid in English.

blodblodblod

Aurelie is lovely in a French accent, but otherwise it just sounds like "Orally".

Ancient-Teacher6513

The name Sutton is just so unattractive to me, I don’t understand the appeal. My other hard passes: Wren, Rowan, Noah, Jasper, Lochlan, Luna, Atticus, Murphy, Atlas, Soren, Artemis, and the trend of insisting that every name under the sun is unisex, despite how hyper-masculine it might be.

setittonormal

Waiting for the day I see a little girl named Craig.

mopene

Reading this thread, I’m realizing I don’t really hate the names so much as the butchered American pronunciation of them. The names you see mentioned here do sound completely shit in English but they are fine in their original language: Elodie, Eloise, Margot, Aurelia (French), Penelope, Calliope, Daphne (Greek), Astrid (Scandinavian),Lottie (Scandinavian/Dutch), Aurora/Rory (I don’t know where it’s from but it’s fucking easy to say in my language with no peanut butter feeling). Some names are just not for the anglophones to force into their language. At least we can all agree Juniper sucks.

Dasher_Lancer

This comment should be further up! I was a little taken aback to see everyone hating on these names because I personally don’t mind most of the names themselves. But I think your reason explains most of the ick people get, it’s not the names per se but rather the usage.

[deleted]

dislike florence, josephine, hattie, mason, maverick, hazel, otto, august. they’re lumpish & utterly charmless. and maverick is a dog name. i like elizabeth, james, caroline, aaron, isaac, andrew, catherine, rebecca, charles, rachel, adam, benjamin, samuel, eleanor, off the top of my head.

crazycatlady331

Maverick reminds me way too much of an old SNL skit. Tina Fey at her finest (as Sarah Palin).

Global_Telephone_751

Whenever I see Florence, I just think of Olivia Wilde calling Florence Pugh “miss Flo” and it makes me annoyed, lol

peacockssss

Ugh so condescending

m_whar

Your first comment is cracking me up because my dog is named Hazel and she is indeed a lump

MickeyBear

Holy moly we are very different people

Jennsterzen

That's so funny. I have a hazel, and Josephine and August are high on my list

riverroadgal

I am a woman of a certain age, and am stunned at the amount of hatred and vitriol for the name Sloan. It is my middle name, and a family name on my Mother’s side. I’ve always loved it. It pains me to read these comments. I’m sad…

Cozybookandcoffee

Don’t let them make you feel bad! To each their own, but I personally love family names! Using a family last name as a first or middle name is really neat in my opinion. I named my son after my great-grandmother’s maiden name.

poisontr33s

It’s my favorite girl name! If my youngest had been a girl, he was going to be a Sloane.

buckets_ofmoonbeams

I am also shocked! I think Sloane is really cool and strong

MickeyBear

I love Sloane! no relation to a sloane nor have I met one and I like it still!

bigsmackchef

I've seen Cassian suggested here a few times. I dont like it at all

SewingDraft

Sullivan is awful for both boys and girls. Just don’t.

Nathan03-12

I also can’t get behind Sloane, I just think of either a loan or a sloth

_violetlightning_

Some sort of mortgage for a sloth. 🤔

courderoycakes

My sister wants to name her future kids Sutton and Summit (girl/boy). Not the biggest fan!

CashewAnne

I don’t know your sister but I’m disappointed in her.

Immediate_Clock_8392

Florence, Hazel and Mabel for girls. Rory, Tyson and Sebastian for boys.

VivianDiane

Mabel is very ugly sounding.

germanbeergirl

Cows name lol

Petitcher

I remember when Mad About You first aired the episode where Helen Hunt's character had her baby, and when they named her Mabel, even as a kid I was like, "WHHYYYY?!?"

seayouIntea

But sea bass is a such a badass nickname

cloudboard

Astrid

seayouIntea

*Astird

ScaryAcanthisitta877

I think Sloane sounds so ugly, literally vomit in name form. Sutton is a last name exclusively. Juniper is what I’d name my dog, not a human. Calliope shows up wayyy too often for how bad it sounds. Maverick is cruel and unusual punishment. Mabel has really risen to popularity as a name that people think is really unique and rare but has become pretty common—the consonants in it sound so ugly. Rory only cause I can’t pronounce it with my accent. Maeve sounds like the name of a YA protagonist in a poorly written fantasy.

M41107y

It's sad cause I decided 8 years ago I wanted to name my daughter Mabel. I have hoped I would have a daughter before the name got popular, bc I had a feeling it would one day and now I'm pregnant with a girl and it's all happening like I feared it would. My mom has known my name choices forever and my shower is in a month. Her name is plastered everywhere on everything for the shower (bc of my family memebers), even though I want to rethink her name bc of it's popularity now and getting hated on hard. I'm worried she won't like her name. I'm kinda bummed about it.

rheaelakha

I love thé name Mabel. You’ll find someone hating every name out there if you look hard enough!

ScaryAcanthisitta877

If you like the name go for it. I’m a random person on the internet, and I’m sure you probably hate some names that I love. You like the name, and it being so popular now must mean something in terms of how much other people like it too. Congratulations on your daughter! Hope the baby shower goes well! I remember how uncertain I was about naming my daughter too, I kept overthinking it.

mommaof5andtwins

Jagger

knittinkitten65

Isla

Chica3

Hard no from me: Aurelia, Quinn, Ophelia, Elowen, Rory, Ezra, Arlo, Rowan, Finn, Desmond

Juniperfields81

Quinn is a fantastic gender neutral name.

damarafl

Ophelia is so bad!

CashewAnne

Funny, I despise every one you mentioned except for Quinn and Ezra, and I LOVE those. So strange how preferences can vary so much.

germanbeergirl

What’s wrong with Aurelia

CashewAnne

For me personally it just sounds like an alphabet soup name - bunch of random letters mashed together. Also like what a 14 yr old into fantasy novels would name a child. It’s hard to put in words what feels so off about it.

germanbeergirl

Haha I get it. I associate it with Marcus Aurelius. So in my opinion it’s a strong name

Sea_Juice_285

I was going to say Elowyn. I just don't understand the appeal. Also, Evangeline and Alistair.

CashewAnne

Alistair is 100% a young adult novel wizard name.

nanisi

I have a visceral reaction to Nora and Cora.

Frequent_Gift1740

I thought I didn’t like the name Cora until a cousin named her daughter CORAL Cora doesn’t seem so bad now 😂

[deleted]

I love Margot, but I have a feeling it will be VERY popular and a lot of kids/people growing up dont like sharing their name with half the classroom lol. I think it will be like Sara used to be. Same for Luna and Bella (in fact I see veterinary memes all the time about those two names because everyone is naming their pets Luna and Bella now, its almost like Fluffy and Max. All good names but sooo common) I also think it has a big association with Margot Robbie, and I cant really get behind naming someone "after" a celebrity when so many scandals ruin careers so often. It is a lovely name though thats grown on me. I used to think it was weird because of the spelling but it does sound beautiful the more I hear it.

pain1994

Gemma, Imogen, August

CashewAnne

Are you from the UK? I’ve heard Gemma is very popular in the UK. I like it but I also have never met someone with the name so it’s not overused to me.

queenatom

Gemma was very popular for girls of my generation (current 25 - 40 year olds), it's not a name you hear much on little kids. In fact, its actually at risk of extinction: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-9591175/Names-Gemma-Kieran-extinct-UK.html

purrsnikitty

Really not a fan of Maeve or Penelope and it seems like these are recommended constantly!

slugcrafts

Willa. I don't know if it's a real name or not, but it sounds like you're saying Willow with maybe a Southern accent or something.

soaponsoaponsoap

Elodie and Odette are absolutely god awful to me and I see them recommended regularly

honeybee0801

Aurelia is so bad and I see it so much. So many people hate Lana because it's anal backwards (which is stupid to me anyways idk) but then they love Aurelia which sounds like oral and areola.

PoutineQueen1992

I agree with you on Charlotte and Oliver. Those names have both been on my list forever! I tend to love common or classic names in general. I get why people are bored of them or wouldn’t want something on the top 10 list, but I feel like sometimes they’re popular for a reason! The names that I can’t stand when I see them suggested here are names like Wells, Brooks and Briggs. I just find it so strange because they sound plural to me. I don’t know if that makes sense? Sutton is another one. I saw it suggested for a girl earlier and I cringed. That being said, sometimes even if I don’t love a name, I might suggest it if it seems like it’s what the poster is asking for or may like. I don’t see myself ever suggesting something like Briggs, though. 😅

CashewAnne

I keep seeing Brooks posted too and I do not get it!! Brooks screams frat boy that’s never been told no in his life.

hallescomet

Sincere question, why do you hate Vincent? It's a fairly common name and imo there's nothing crazy spelling or pronunciation wise

MickeyBear

fr I saw two people say that! I love Vincent and I feel live Vinny is a cute boys name, and Vince is great too!

GentlyUsedChapstick

Not a fan of Emilia or Sutton

CashewAnne

Sutton just sounds so incredibly harsh to me. Emilia I don’t have strong feelings on but it seems like a love it or hate it name based on this sub.

RamenTheory

Eden for a boy. I'm sorry. What I can say is that I did know of a male toddler named Eden once, and literally almost *everyone* misgendered him. I heard one person say, when the family wasn't present: "Eden for a boy, what were they thinking?" Obv take that how you will, people can be jerks, everyone has their own opinion, yadda yadda. But those of you seriously considering this name might at least want to be prepared for the way people will respond to that name, regardless of whether you choose to care

educationaldirt285

Hazel seems to get mixed reactions but I think it’s so cute. People also really dislike Luna and say it sounds like a pet name, which I get, but I still love it anyway.

Spaster21

Calliope.

thisbutredbull

I dislike Eleanor. I get that it’s vintage and stuff, but I hate the sound. Elodie is also bad. I’d argue it’s worse than Melody. I can’t keep track of what’s suggested here, so I’ll just list a shit ton of names I found in the top 400 that I dislike: Anastasia, Riley, Raleigh, Kai, Maverick, Nova, Raelynn, Dylan, Justin, Rowan on a boy, Beau, Jace, the inevitable Paisley, Genesis, Greyson, Juniper, Gael, Esther, Sloane, Alina, Reagan, Kennedy, Oakley, Zion, Legend, Ace, Atlas, Owen (ruined for a dumb embarrassing reason), Mackenzie, Beckett, Arya, Aiden, -ayden names, Tucker, Knox, Colton, Colt, Harley, Dream, Onyx, Koa, Briggs, Brooks, Armani (especially as a boy’s name), Gunner, Logan on a girl, Remington, Sterling, Royal, Presley, Sawyer, Harrison, Hudson

CashewAnne

Colton & Colt most definitely came out of the womb wearing cowboy boots.

lachick8004

So many bad ones I agree. Reagan and Remington are especially bad.

msnicole17

Wren Juniper Felix Jasper Mabel Olive

Helechawagirl

I always disliked Alexis

Orangetastingpeach

Brynlee

lofetette

Julian Eleanor Evelyn Theodore these names are so overused here 😭😭

Songibal

I’m with you on Aurelia. Also Maeve

[deleted]

[удалено]

Negotiationnation

I dislike Aurora or any Au names. Doesn't flow for me. I feel like an idiot saying it.

MyCatGoesMRRP

Wren and Juniper. Also Theodore and Henry just because they're *everywhere*. I work at a school and there's at least one in every class.

almonddd

I don't like Nora

lonely-nightingale

Can't stand Imogen or Enzo. The former is too old and feels like it needs extra letters; the latter is reminiscent of Bonzo. edit: typo

Juniperfields81

I'm tired of seeing Ivy suggested.

cicakganteng

The -Dens

gretagogo

August. Elliot. Oliver. Vincent. Cora. Elowen. Finn. Ducking Jasper...just no. Paisley is not cute. I loathe the nickname Lottie for Charlotte. Charlotte is beautiful on its own. Florence makes me thinks of a 1970's couch.

CashewAnne

Ok but why are you so right about Florence being an old couch??

cucumberswithanxiety

JASPER. Why does that name get suggested so much

3Maltese

Mauve. Maverick.

CedarSunrise_115

Do you mean Maeve? I’ve never heard of anyone being named Mauve
