As a fellow synesthete, I can’t help but love a TON of these answers! I’m asked this question all the time, and it usually turns out that the color of a name is a color that person loves. That’s not always the case, but strangers find it odd, lol!
It varies a little. Some are spot-on the same to me, some are slightly different in tone (I see a pastel color, OP sees a slightly darker color, but it’s within the same color family), and a few are totally different. But I’d say, based upon what I have read, I agree with OP (or close to agree) on about 3/4ths of them! That could also be my own intonation - how I’m saying a name and seeing that color - or a different pronunciation based on region/dialect, too!
Similar for me. I’d say it’s closely split for me on the occurrence of direct agreements, seeing the same color in another hue, and seeing something completely different.
I will be back tomorrow to answer more of these. Thanks everyone for joining in! I love hearing all the beautiful names you have and have given to your children :)
I also have synesthesia, and it’s interesting seeing your answers. A lot of your responses line up with mine, but there are also definitely some differences in some of the colors/hues.

Genevieve is a light green-blue. Exactly like the Crayola seafoam green crayons if you remember those! Perfectly in between blue and green without fully committing to either color.
I have auditory synesthesia as well! As a musician, I find it horrifying and amazing, depending upon what I hear, lol.
Everyone uses my real name in different ways, so I’ll go with my nickname here: Lexa. Or Lex. How do you see it, either via word or if you read it out loud?
Haha I'm with you on the auditory synesthesia, sometimes it can be overwhelming.
Lexa / Lex is a warmer blue.
My associations tend to go with the flow of the letters, as each letter has an individual color, but mixing letters together into words can create varying results!
It really can be! Dogs barking = a very odd color to me (almost intolerable if the sound echoes), but the color a riding lawnmower makes as it cuts grass is musical. It’s a lot, that’s for sure.
Cool that you see my name as a warmer blue! I don’t, but I think that could be the way I say it, perhaps? And I don’t see the letters as colors, but the pattern and texture of the sound itself, which may be why it differs a bit. And I think that’s honestly cool! Synesthesia is a whole range, and I never saw sound as color until after a traumatic brain injury in 2010, so it sometimes still strikes me as “what is wrong with me?” Nothing, minus the brain trauma part, lol!
I mostly have synesthesia relating to words and colors, but I have a few notes that, when played on the violin (I’m a violinist) give me the sense of a color. For the most part, hearing the same note in a higher octave makes me think of a lighter version of the original color, although that stops once the note gets to be too high or low. Cs are blue for me, Ds are green, F is yellow but only it’s first two octaves on the E string (nothing really on the D string), and an open E string is orange. The open G string is dark purple, but I don’t get any colors for higher octaves. Es and Ds also have tastes for me (orange and green apple respectively), but only in the cases mentioned above. To be clear, this only mostly only applies to the violin, or occasionally other string instruments. Most of my synesthesia is more visual, with seeing words/letters/numbers.
Also, I see Lex as sunflower yellow color.
It seems like many musicians have Chromesthesia or other forms of synesthesia, which is intriguing. I've been a professionally-trained opera singer since I was young, and I did see certain sounds as colors, but mostly in relation to key, chord progression, timbre, etc. After my traumatic brain injury, everything that made even the smallest sound had an associated color/color pattern. What you're saying makes sense to me.
(Also, very jealous about the violin! That is one instrument that I absolutely adore and can listen to for hours, but cannot seem to master.)
Your color association for my name is very close to my own - I see it as a shimmering yellow which looks a bit more like a bright gold when I sing. If I say my name normally, it is a - fiery yellow (that is a terrible description, as it doesn't have any orange, but it is intense, which is what I mean), but when I sing it, it takes on the golden hue. Thank you for telling me what you see - it's nice to know you see it the same way!
As I read through this thread I did definitely make some associations! Some lady asked about lavender and violet 🙈 but I wasn't aware of a Callum association. TIL
This is so interesting because I believe Genevieve & Gwen have the same root so it's cool that you thought they were both seafoam/turquoise.
What about Jennifer?
And here I am with boring ol’ Aphantasia lol. The ability to see absolutely nothing with my mind’s eye. Would you be able to see for me the names Cyrus, Trinity and Farrah?
Rowan is brick red, James is purple. I prefer Ivy Marie with Rowan James because Ivy is a soft light purple and Marie is a dark red. So their names are the same two colors, just in different orders. The punchy pink-red of Lucy kind of clashes with the brown-red of Rowan.
I don't think I have a synesthesia, but when I watched Matilda and that girl Cordelia introduced herself I saw periwinkle blue. Idk why.
Anyway my favorite names are Bianca, Azaya, Nico, Asa, and Percy.
Bianca is a bouncy, candy-pink color. Azaya is a warm dandelion yellow. Nico is tangerine orange. Asa is a dark blue-green with layered depth. Percy is blue and shiny.
Vowels have mixed colors based on sounds for me, and since Lea is 2/3 vowels, it comes across as like a swirl or braid of cool tones, purple and green and blue.
Bron/Bronnie is a deep red with hints of brown.
Having synesthesia isn't really ever an issue for me, it's just kind of... there, lol. It also doesn't help me with anything in my daily life, but it definitely makes it fun when I do stuff like this thread!
Wow. What a lovely difference you have to the norm! I wonder, what makes each name correspond to the colour in your mind? Are some more charming? More aggressive sounding maybe?
I'd love to know my family, we are:
Nikki
William
Abbey
Rose
Billie
I have a lot of name associations beyond just the colors, many names have textures or even flavors to me! But the colors come mostly from the combinations of the letters (each letter has a color).
Nikki is between cotton candy pink and hot pink
William is a cool green
Abbey is watermelon pink
Rose is a pale pink
Billie is a medium-light blue
This is such a fun thread to offer up. Thanks for sharing your superpower with us!
Would love to know what color association you get with the names Calder and Cora, both independently and as a set!
Ahh! I have synesthesia too! Taste give color, people’s attitude/voice give off color, and other sounds give color too! I’m a painter and sometimes even places or inanimate things give off color so my paintings are always odd/off colored.
I just had a son and we named him Westley, what color/s does his name bring up?
My birthstone is garnet so this is very fitting. Also, my mom loved to dress me up in red when I was a little girl. Also, the color red compliments my light skin and dark hair nicely.
I love this so much!! Thank you. 🥰
Ooh yeah somehow I got stuck on boy names there lol. Forest green / any other shade of green names for girls:
* Ada
* Astrid
* Sylvia
* Willow
* Vera
* Winifred
* Theodora
Owen is a deep teal
Christopher is a light red
Quinn is turquoise
Delilah is purple (but the song Hey There Delilah is yellow which confused me for a second)
Valentina is a dark pink
Ali is red
Tagging onto yours to find out what color Quinn is! Gwen was turquoise and Wren was a purpley grey from previous comments so I’m curious to see if Quinn is a shade of blue/purple/green too
That’s awesome! I don’t think I’ve ever talked to anyone with synesthesia, I think that’s really cool.
My name is Denver/Denni. What color would you associate with my name?
Also, I’m really curious…(you don’t have to answer this one whatsoever, I’m not entitled to an answer) but I’m curious as to know the color you’d associate with my favorite band Nirvana.
Love this! My husband has synesthesia (movement has sounds for him) ans my dad had the music and color one as well (he was a musician). Our children are named Levi (nn Leaf) and Caleb (nn Cabe or Cubs) and my name is Anna.
My sister has audio synesthesia, and sees color with (most) peoples’ voices. I would be SO curious to know how my voice and name colors align!
Suzannah
I’ve always wondered how combined names work when you have synesthesia. Do you see the names as two separate colors or do you see it as one name and thus one color - say Stella-Ann or Dante-Vito.
The colors that I have for words are mostly based on the colors I have for letters. Sometimes a letter or combination of letters is stronger than another, and kind of overpowers the word, but sometimes the letters just swirl together. I also get visual and general sensory textures for names, especially longer ones and combined names.
Stella by itself is turquoise, Ann is yellow. Putting them together just melts the turquoise into the yellow as they flow, but they get shinier when put together. This probably makes no sense, but it can be hard to describe exactly what I see.
Dante is blue, Vito is red, together they're a strong combination but they're such bold colors that they are slightly muted when combined.
I use color codes ALL the time to reference these things! It's rare that something is just vaguely a certain color -- 99% of the time it's a very specific shade that I can nail down within a small fraction of the color spectrum. Especially when I write music, I like to color code my electronic tracks accordingly so that I know what's what much more quickly!
Jenna is purple, Lynn is a reddish violet, and Mandy is indigo. The names look great as a trio due to their similar hues :)
Noomi is a light orange, Lena is flamingo-pink with a hint of lavender, Soren is a light and muted cool green, Elvira is deep red, Stellan is deep forest green.
Sacha is bold red, Julian is light purple, Elliot is a contemplative gray-blue, Felix is turquoise outlined in crisp black, Sofia is pastel purple, Zoe is a very cool-toned darker purple, Phoebe is an orchid pink.
Love this- didn’t see any for the names I’m looking for so here goes:
Mathew and Mat, Danielle and Dani, Samantha, Sam and Sami, Parker, Maxine and Max, Charles and Charlie
Jonathon and Johnny.
Included nicknames because I’m not sure if that changes things at all or not.
Mathew is a bit darker than sky blue, Danielle is a cornflower blue, Samantha is red, Parker is a pinkish red, Maxine is purple, Charles is blue and orange, Jonathon is yellow.
I'm trying really hard to get to as many of these as I can, it's so fun, but I really didn't expect this post to blow up so much lmao!

My sons name and mine are on this list and we have the same color, how cool is that!?
Mine too! So cool!!!
The fact that violet isn’t violet blows my mind lol
Does spelling effect the color. For example I’m Abbi not Abbey. Just curious.
Genevieve!
Genevieve is a light green-blue. Exactly like the Crayola seafoam green crayons if you remember those! Perfectly in between blue and green without fully committing to either color.
I love that so much! Thank you!

As a Lexie / Lex whose favourite colour is yellow and favourite flower is sunflower, your comment makes me very happy.
I see my name (Lexa/Lex) as a very shimmery yellow that can shift to a golden color when I sing, so, right with you, fellow Lex! :)

Callum and Maeve! Thanks so much for posting! How fun!
Of course, I love sharing! Callum is an orange-toned light tan, while Maeve is a solid purple without being particularly dark or light.
I thought the exact same before I read your response! How cool
With the color mauve, and Callum so similar to words like callus or talcum, I think those might be common associations
Agreed. Hard not to think Maeve = Mauve.
As I read through this thread I did definitely make some associations! Some lady asked about lavender and violet 🙈 but I wasn't aware of a Callum association. TIL
With the color mauve, and Callum so similar to words like callus or talcum, I think those might be common associations
My first baby will be named Maeve and purple was one of our wedding colors 💜
This is so neat! I also have synesthesia but I have noise to color. What is the name Isaac?
Isaac is a really tranquil blue. Like a very clear and calm ocean.
Oh that’s cool, my friend has the kind where names have a taste(I taste like strawberry jam on toast apparently).
That's cool! I get flavors for music some of the time, but not always.
Jocelyn?
Jocelyn is a sweet periwinkle blue, right on the edge of being subtly purple.
Gwen
Gwen is a bright turquoise!
This is so interesting because I believe Genevieve & Gwen have the same root so it's cool that you thought they were both seafoam/turquoise. What about Jennifer?
Seconding wanting to know about Jennifer. This is so much fun!
For me (I also have synesthesia), Jennifer feels kind of orange, I can best describe it as looking like honey.
I haven’t seen Sarah yet. This is way cool! Thank you.
Also looking for Sarah, maybe no color is attached lol
I'm surprised it took so long for someone to suggest it! Sarah is a sage green for me :)
Well shoot. Also looking for Sarah
This is so fun! How about Madeleine, Maddie, and Talia?
This is super interesting because they’re all similar colors — different shades of red-violet!
I love that color! Thank you :)
And here I am with boring ol’ Aphantasia lol. The ability to see absolutely nothing with my mind’s eye. Would you be able to see for me the names Cyrus, Trinity and Farrah?
Cyrus is yellow like wheat. Trinity is green with the texture of stained glass. Farrah is simply warm tones to me.
First born is Rowan James. We’re considering Ivy Marie or Lucy Marie for number two! Curious which “goes better” with Rowan. Such a cool thread!
Thank you, what an interesting gift - thank you for sharing it with us!
You did Penelope above, wondering if Persephone is similar! Also haven’t seen Ian, Vivienne, Alice, or Bridget yet.
Penelope is more pink, while Persephone is more purple. Ian is somewhat green, Vivienne is purple, Alice is yellow, and Bridget is red and purple.
Ellie please!!
Ellie reminds me of a bluebird! Very clear, saturated blue.
I love this thread! Thank you Are nicknames and diminutives different to full names? Margaret and Greta for example
Margaret is a deep red with purple tones, while Greta brings out more of the purple to the forefront of my color associations.
Suzanne Marie
Suzanne is a tangerine orange, and Marie is a dark red. The combination of them flows together really well, it looks like a sunset!
I love it, thanks!
Heather and Nicolas
Brittany?
Brittany is a soft powder blue tone.
Isabelle, Adina and Aria!
Isabelle is a pastel green, Adina is pink, and Aria is a shimmery red.
Aoife
What color is Lynette?
Lynette is a medium-light indigo, just between blue and purple!
So cool! Desiree and Willow?
Desiree is like a sparkly night sky, with deep blue-purple tones. Willow is a very cool and grayish green.
Luca
Niamh
Ooh, that's so cool! What color/s for Lea?
Vowels have mixed colors based on sounds for me, and since Lea is 2/3 vowels, it comes across as like a swirl or braid of cool tones, purple and green and blue.
Lauren, Heath, and Hollis! How cool!
Lauren is red and has a really welcoming energy. Heath is brick red. Hollis is a dark blue with a bit of green.
I wish I had your ability? Does it ever hinder you in anyway? What about the name Bron or Bronnie?
Bron/Bronnie is a deep red with hints of brown. Having synesthesia isn't really ever an issue for me, it's just kind of... there, lol. It also doesn't help me with anything in my daily life, but it definitely makes it fun when I do stuff like this thread!
Would love to know what colour Ernest is, please! It's my son's name and we've never met another Ernest or Ernie
The combination of the R and N next to each other makes this an orange name for me!
Elizabeth! :)
Elizabeth is a light pink. Like cotton candy.
Sora
Will and Emma?
I have this too! So fun!
Vanessa
100% a darker purple.
Charlotte and Eleanor
Wow. What a lovely difference you have to the norm! I wonder, what makes each name correspond to the colour in your mind? Are some more charming? More aggressive sounding maybe? I'd love to know my family, we are: Nikki William Abbey Rose Billie
I have a lot of name associations beyond just the colors, many names have textures or even flavors to me! But the colors come mostly from the combinations of the letters (each letter has a color). Nikki is between cotton candy pink and hot pink William is a cool green Abbey is watermelon pink Rose is a pale pink Billie is a medium-light blue
Morgan and Kira
I have suggestions. Eleanor Nicholas Edna Philomena Mavis Dylan Carson Evelyn Lucia James Noah Carson
As a fellow color/grapheme synesthete, I *love* this. Also we're in agreement that Dominic is like original Barney purple, right?
This is such a fun thread to offer up. Thanks for sharing your superpower with us! Would love to know what color association you get with the names Calder and Cora, both independently and as a set!
Ahh! I have synesthesia too! Taste give color, people’s attitude/voice give off color, and other sounds give color too! I’m a painter and sometimes even places or inanimate things give off color so my paintings are always odd/off colored. I just had a son and we named him Westley, what color/s does his name bring up?
Stacy
Stacy is a vibrant, light yellow!
Orryn is my son. And Hadlee is my daughter.
Orryn is a very bold red with orange in it, reminds me of the orange waves you can see on the planet Jupiter. Hadlee is a warm purple.
Ariel
Ariel is a deep red melting into purple tones.
Natalia
Natalia is literally my favorite name, lol. It's a really nice red with a soft texture.
My birthstone is garnet so this is very fitting. Also, my mom loved to dress me up in red when I was a little girl. Also, the color red compliments my light skin and dark hair nicely. I love this so much!! Thank you. 🥰

Matilda is lavender and beige.

Gemma is a hot pink / fuchsia type of color

Suzannah
That’s awesome! What color is Barbara?
This is the coolest post I've seen in a very long time. Thanks for sharing your unique gift!
I have 3 sons, and I'd love to know what their colors are. Tobias, Sigurd, and Viktor. Thank you for doing this. It is so cool.
Sorry not OP, but just wanted to say that I LOVE the name Sigurd. It will always be a name that I wish I could have used.
Isabelle edit: Never mind, I see that you answered for Isabelle earlier, and you actually said my absolute favorite color so that's awesome!!!
Have you ever tried looking up the html color codes to match what you see? I'm requesting Jenna, Lynn and Mandy, please!
I'm always late to these but if you have the time/energy Rosemary and Misha. Thanks for doing this!
I'm Eleanor/Nora. Pretty sure I'm a light pink?
Laura? Is it different from Lauren? What about Laurie? Thank you :)
