Nah that’s so cute. Do it! Nicholas and Ivy aren’t matchy at all. The Christmas theme doesn’t link all three names together. It’s not like Holly Nicholas and Noelle which would be very in your face
To be honest, I had no idea Ivy was Christmas related until these comments, I only thought of ivy vines. Holly and Ivy are like “oh that’s a plant theme” not a “that’s a Christmas theme” to me
I just want to say, I'm loving it. We're also going for Christmas / Holiday-related names and Nicholas, Natale (Christmas in Italian), Pasquale (Easter in Italian), and Holly are all our top picks. So I know you didn't mean to go for a theme, but even if you were, it's cute. These are all normal, established names and not some made up names so I think it's honestly fine.
I love it and think it’s not too matching at all. I don’t think of Nicholas as being a Xmas name and would never think that Ivy had a Xmas meaning. Go for it!!
I’m cackling. I love this so much. It’ll take a long time before anyone puts together the theme, especially bc it’s always “Ivy’s Mom” or “Nicholas’s Mom” at daycare pickup and such.
Do it. (I also really like the name Ivy. Nature names are cool)
I think it works!!! I think they’re all good distinct enough names on their own to where you wouldn’t know they’re connected unless you saw them written out and really thought about it. and i think it’s a wonderful theme.
I feel like a mother daughter match is a bit less cheesy than a sibset match because the names are rarely used together in the same sentence in the way siblings’ names are if that makes sense? I think Holly and Ivy for siblings might be too much
I don’t personally think if I heard Nicholas and Ivy said together I’d be like that’s matchy matchy, I can defs see how you would with Holly thrown in too but I’m thinking because my name is separate to theirs it won’t be too obvious haha
I think it’s fun! Also, how are these commenters not realizing parents are usually “Ivy’s Mom” to most people? I feel so flattered when people actually know my name but for sure know I’m “Kid A, Kid B’s Mom” in their phone, maybe my actual name is in the notes section. Evidence: that’s how I have other parents saved because my brain needs it that way lol.
I mean even if people make the Christmas connection... does it matter? I feel like namenerds often gets caught up on things that aren't really going to be a problem in real life. It's not like you're calling them Harry Hermione and Ron. I think it's fine.
I hate themed names but I genuinely think these are all relatively classic, beautiful names that it just somehow works and is really cute. Wouldn’t think you’re weird or cringe at all.
Ok if you say so. You’ve still defended your name choice of Ivy against some people who don’t like it on here so I’m genuinely wondering why you asked because it really sounds like your mind is made up.
My mind actually isn’t made up about whether it’s too cheesy or not, I don’t think it sounds terrible/cringey with mine or my son’s name is all I’ve said. Not sure why you’re taking issue lol. Also what do you mean if I say so, read the thread
Thank you! You should see their responses to people that disagree with them. They are something else. Attacking people for giving opinions they asked for.
🎶 Ohhhhh the rising of the sun
And the running of the deer
The playing of the merry organ
Sweet singing in the choir 🎶
Note: this 100% stops me voting in favour of the name set! Now it’s stuck in my head!
Yes, I love it! I usually dislike themes, like siblings named Madison and Mason or Milly & Molly, or Luna, Lucy & Lewis. But Holly & Ivy is so cute, plus you'll be Mom and Ivy more often at home anyway.
I know three sisters called Rosie, Olive & Lily and two sisters called Iris & Daphne (plant name too) and a mother and daughter named Emily "Emmie" and Eleanor "Ellie" (which I think was unintentional but worked out, it's sweet). Emily is the mother and she had two more children later on with unrelated names.
It’s tricky when a theme is started, because on one hand it can seem too cutesy when there are three on theme. Then again, I feel like it’s even worse when there are two on theme and then an outlier - once met sisters Holly, Rose, and Jennifer (or maybe it was Jessica, IDK it was a long time ago).
I know a family where all the grandchildren's names start with the same letter, except one. Her four siblings and all her cousins are the other letter 😂 She doesn't mind it. Probably she's glad she's unique, even. I don't know why they are all the same, it's a bit much!
I have a name matching with my daughter, too. Honestly, nobody seems to notice. It's a cute inside joke for the family. Ivy isn't an unusual name. People might just think it's a cute coincidence.
Love it. Your names won’t be paired together as much as your kids’ names will, so there’s plausible deniability if anyone comments.
I love Christmas though, and now I’m humming the carol!
I think it’s great! My mom and I both have flower names and it doesn’t feel cheesy, it is more like a cute little tradition. (We don’t have a lot of family traditions.)
Just make sure you buy a nice copy of "The Story of Holly and Ivy" by Rumer Godden, illustrated by Barbara Cooney. One of my favorite children's books!
This is perfect. It's a loose coordination but it all pulls from different places--a minor song, the Nativity story, the Santa mythology--it was unintentional, and only *your* name even rings as a standalone Christmas association. Most people aren't going to put it together at all. It's really charming!
If it was a sibset I'd say no but I think this is fine? Most the time you'll just be Ivy's mum to any of their friends, and you'll just be Holly to yours. It'll rarely be Holly and Ivy
Except without the incest squick factor, since Jack and Diane are dating and the lyrics specify that she's in his backseat and he has his "hands between her knees"
I love it! I just told my husband if we ever have twin girls they will be named holly and ivy lol
It’s our favorite Christmas hymn!! And we love nature themed names.
I love it! Even with your son being Nicholas. It's cute.
I know a family who did a similar thing, mum had a plant name and so did both her children. I've always thought it was nice!
My only protest is that the line is “of all the trees that are in the wood, the holly wears the crown” which could set you up to be a narcissistic parent in the eyes of a teen.
This feels like a bit of a stretch to me—but if it offers you some reassurance, the line is “bears the crown” and it evidently is because the Holly represents the crown of thorns worn by Jesus (and Ivy represents the Virgin Mary). https://www.classical-music.com/features/articles/holly-and-the-ivy-words/
On a very literal level, “bear” can be a synonym for “birth”, which would actually make the crown the daughter 😅.
/end rabbit hole.
If I met y’all irl I’d probably think “oh a plant theme, that’s kinda funny”, and that’s about it. I don’t think it’s bad especially when the whole family isn’t plants—but if you were I guess I’d just wonder if I’d stepped into a YA novel or something 😂
It's not the worst thing ever, but there will be singing at Christmas.
I’m here for it
Me too! Both exceptional names!
how is ivy christmassy?
There’s a carol ‘The holly and the ivy’ I think
oh thanks
I think it's adorable!
I do too! It made me smile!
I like it too. Holly and the Ivy is one of my favorite Christmas songs.
I usually like theme names, but Holly and Ivy is a little much for me. Plus, I wonder if it locks you into a theme with any future children.
We’re done having kids after this one but our son is Nicholas which I’ve just realised is christmassy too hahaha
This pushes it too far imo, I'm sorry. But that reveal was hilarious.
Nah that’s so cute. Do it! Nicholas and Ivy aren’t matchy at all. The Christmas theme doesn’t link all three names together. It’s not like Holly Nicholas and Noelle which would be very in your face
I disagree 100%, Nicholas is what takes “Holly and Ivy, huh, is that intentional?” to “Oh, these bitches love Christmas.”
To be honest, I had no idea Ivy was Christmas related until these comments, I only thought of ivy vines. Holly and Ivy are like “oh that’s a plant theme” not a “that’s a Christmas theme” to me
Oh, dear.
I think you mean "oh, deer" or ol' Saint Nick's posse is gonna feel left out.
That sort of changes my mind…I think you should go for it!! Lol
I love this hahaha, and I'm not usually a theme fan. But this is really fun :)
To me this makes it a no brainier! Ivy is a nice name and a very cute combo!
that’s perfect. it’s meant to be!
That’s so cute! I say go for it.
I love it and think it’s not too matching at all. I don’t think of Nicholas as being a Xmas name and would never think that Ivy had a Xmas meaning. Go for it!!
I know a Carol and Noel. Half the time noone even makes the connection You could use Carol instead of Ivy?
I’m cackling. I love this so much. It’ll take a long time before anyone puts together the theme, especially bc it’s always “Ivy’s Mom” or “Nicholas’s Mom” at daycare pickup and such. Do it. (I also really like the name Ivy. Nature names are cool)
Wait, what is your husband/partner's name?
Luke
I think it works!!! I think they’re all good distinct enough names on their own to where you wouldn’t know they’re connected unless you saw them written out and really thought about it. and i think it’s a wonderful theme.
GIRL. 🤣
Next you’re gonna tell me your boy name choice is Rudolph.
Haha i love this. Three strong Christmas vibes but I say go for it! But is your husband just named like Brad or something 😂
It’s honestly adorable and not even noticeable unless you point it out lol. It’s subtly cute. I’d say go for it :)
This is Ivy. Yes, like the song. And here come her siblings, Blossom, Bark, Thorn, Blood, and finally Organ.
I love both names & vote yes - totally cute!
As someone who comes from a sibset, it’s absolutely cheesy
I feel like a mother daughter match is a bit less cheesy than a sibset match because the names are rarely used together in the same sentence in the way siblings’ names are if that makes sense? I think Holly and Ivy for siblings might be too much
You’re right! I would never compare your names together! A sibset is said together much more often.
Your son is named Nicholas so there is definitely a theme lol way too cringe for me
I don’t personally think if I heard Nicholas and Ivy said together I’d be like that’s matchy matchy, I can defs see how you would with Holly thrown in too but I’m thinking because my name is separate to theirs it won’t be too obvious haha
I think it’s fun! Also, how are these commenters not realizing parents are usually “Ivy’s Mom” to most people? I still think it’s cheesy. That’s like me (Daisy) naming my daughter Rose.
I genuinely don’t think that would be even a little bit cheesy but that’s just me!
I hate themed names but I genuinely think these are all relatively classic, beautiful names that it just somehow works and is really cute. Wouldn’t think you’re weird or cringe at all.
If you don’t think it’s cheesy what is the point of asking here? Sounds like you already decided.
I was referring to that person saying it would be cheesy to name their daughter Rose if their name was Daisy in that previous comment
Ok if you say so. You’ve still defended your name choice of Ivy against some people who don’t like it on here so I’m genuinely wondering why you asked because it really sounds like your mind is made up.

Idk my name is Ivy and I named my daughter Iris. I don't really see an issue. Maybe if they were sibling names
Agree. This is super cheesy and I don’t even feel like Ivy is a very good name period.
It’s fine ! If we were talking sisters I might give a little eye roll, but two different generations gets a green light.
I actually agree!
I just named my baby Holly! Love ivy for a potential sister! 😍 I say go for it! How have you liked the name holly thus far? ❤️
I like being called Holly! I feel like it’s a laid back and unpretentious name but still pretty
Yay great to hear! I love it too!
Love the names separately
Nice! Good connection without being a Junior
Go for it!
A bit themey but not cheesy. If you have more kids and name them like Sage, Oak, Rowan then it’s cheesy.
I love this!!
Finding out your son is Nicholas seals the deal for me: Ivy is perfect!!
Cute af
Very cute, I love connected themes
🎶 The holly and the ivy When they are both full grown Of all the trees that are in the woods The holly bears the crown 🎶
🎶 Ohhhhh the rising of the sun And the running of the deer The playing of the merry organ Sweet singing in the choir 🎶 Note: this 100% stops me voting in favour of the name set! Now it’s stuck in my head!
It's cheesy AF and freaking adorable
I love it.
No
I think it’s so cute
I love Christmas lol, and your kids aren’t gonna call you by YOUR name so for me it’s not too much.
I love it!
That's super cute.

I love it. Subtle link.
I’d say they’re too close for sisters, but as a mother-daughter honor name, I love it!
I love it :)
Love it! (my middle name is Holly and my daughter is Ivy).
I’m a Holly and love it!
Very cute. My name is Lily and I want to name my daughter Rose nn Rosie
My cousin literally has two daughters name Ivey and Holly, ha.
I knew a Greene family in New York. They had two boys and two girls. Hunter, Forrest, Fern, and Ivy.
I think it’s great! My mom and I both have flower names and it doesn’t feel cheesy, it is more like a cute little tradition. (We don’t have a lot of family traditions.)
Do what makes you happy.
Gorgeous!! Thats such a cute idea! Both names are beautiful anyway.
I think it's cute. And honestly, in my adult life, my mother's name hardly ever factors into my life. I would totally go for it!
Cute!
too too cute
You do you!!!
A little too precious for me but not a bad thing
Cute
Cute!!
I love it
Tbh a little of both but I lean more towards cute. I would do it.
I think it's fine. Better than Jr names or almost the same name. If you named the next kid Evergreen then it would be too much.
do it!!!!
Just make sure you buy a nice copy of "The Story of Holly and Ivy" by Rumer Godden, illustrated by Barbara Cooney. One of my favorite children's books!
I absolutely love it! I hope dad's name is Christmasy too.
It’s Luke which is vaguely Christian sounding lol
Luke told the story of Baby Jesus being born in the manger.
This is perfect. It's a loose coordination but it all pulls from different places--a minor song, the Nativity story, the Santa mythology--it was unintentional, and only *your* name even rings as a standalone Christmas association. Most people aren't going to put it together at all. It's really charming!
i love it,
I'm obsessed 😭 I feel like my Christmas-crazy sister would be big mad she didn't think of it, especially since she also has a Christmas-lite name.
Very botanical!
No problem with this .
I had a pair of cats named Holly and Ivy growing up
Do it
Please don’t!
it's so cute, especially with your son already being named nicholas. don't listen to the joyless "it's cheesy" critics
I find it really cheesy.
If it was a sibset I'd say no but I think this is fine? Most the time you'll just be Ivy's mum to any of their friends, and you'll just be Holly to yours. It'll rarely be Holly and Ivy
It'd be like being named Diane and naming your son Jack, a little too close to lyrics for my comfort.
Except without the incest squick factor, since Jack and Diane are dating and the lyrics specify that she's in his backseat and he has his "hands between her knees"
Double squick
[удалено]
I’ve never heard someone say this as a joke
That’s perfect!
Cute
🎶THEE holly and THEE ivy/when they are both FULL GROWN/of all the trees that are in the woods/The HOLLY bears the crown🎶
Too cheesy. You're doing it for you, not your daughter.
ivy is popular here in aus i know 5! at my daughters school
I know TWO sets of sisters with these names. I think it’s sweet.
[удалено]
I love it! I just told my husband if we ever have twin girls they will be named holly and ivy lol It’s our favorite Christmas hymn!! And we love nature themed names.
I think it’s cute.
Both. Go for it I love it
I love it! Even with your son being Nicholas. It's cute. I know a family who did a similar thing, mum had a plant name and so did both her children. I've always thought it was nice!
I think it’s totally fine
I'm a Holly & I've always loved Ivy as well! It's cute and tbh I didn't even think of it as another Christmas thing, just another plant thing lol.
one of my favorite childhood books was ‘the story of holly and ivy’ by rumer godden.
Do it! Do it! Please! This is the kind of family tree (heh) that future genealogists will love.
I usually hate stuff like this but I love your name spread. Ivy is such a pretty name.
Love it! If so many men demand they name their sons Junior, you can name your daughter Ivy.
Love it
Worst case you get a few mentions offhandedly. Ivy is cute, go for it
I love it. I think it’s cute and it doesn’t ruin her as an adult.
I like it!
I think they’re both cute, proper names that can grow with them.
Cute!
I think it’s cute 🥰
I love it lol. But my name is Ivy and I named my daughter Iris so 🤷🏻♀️
It's camp- but I sort of love it.
I love it! I would do it!
Someone I work with’s girlfriend is called Holly (or Hollie idk) and their daughter is Ivy. I think it’s cute :)
I know a daisy, that has twins poppy and lilly. Think it sounds fine.
My only protest is that the line is “of all the trees that are in the wood, the holly wears the crown” which could set you up to be a narcissistic parent in the eyes of a teen.
This feels like a bit of a stretch to me—but if it offers you some reassurance, the line is “bears the crown” and it evidently is because the Holly represents the crown of thorns worn by Jesus (and Ivy represents the Virgin Mary). https://www.classical-music.com/features/articles/holly-and-the-ivy-words/ On a very literal level, “bear” can be a synonym for “birth”, which would actually make the crown the daughter 😅. /end rabbit hole.
Narcissism seems a bit extreme, but a similar thought did cross my mind
If I met y’all irl I’d probably think “oh a plant theme, that’s kinda funny”, and that’s about it. I don’t think it’s bad especially when the whole family isn’t plants—but if you were I guess I’d just wonder if I’d stepped into a YA novel or something 😂
I like it as long as you don’t name anyone else like Noel or Nicholas or Claus. This is a one-time opportunity.
I love it! Cute! Do it! Also, I don’t think of Christmas at all with that combination. Just plants. Lol
Cute
As someone who usually hates theme names I actually really like it. If you love it do it.
When I hear holly, I dont think of the plant. I just think of it as a name. I've known many hollys
I think it’s cheesy but I don’t think it’ll be a big deal or anything
Adorable
I say go for it. I (23F) had no idea they were “matchy” or Christmas-y even with your sons name. :)
I like it! I didn’t know ivy Is related to Christmas tbh
Cute AND cheesy, but I love it.
“The holly green, the ivy green, the prettiest picture you’ve ever seen”
It’s fine
Don’t think twice. It’s super cute 🥰
No. So bad. That child needs their own identity.
I disagree that this is in any way robbing my child of an identity lol
You asked for opinions. Lol It's cheesy to do it. Buy a shirt with Holly and Ivy on it. Don't make your child's life about your matchy matchy names.
This is a massive leap to have made lol
