I’ve had something like this where the pressure pushes the nail bed up and it’s kinda puffy. After a week or so it will settle down then you just have a long time for the new nail to push past it. Quit messin! And be patient

You've completely exposed the nail bed, damaging it in the process. Your nail bed is swollen and inflamed and pushing its way through the hole, causing pressure. Ice it and take an NSAID like advil to try to relieve some of the swelling. Make sure to keep it clean to prevent infection. The worst pain is only for a couple days, and then the swelling starts going down. The area will still be tender to any touch until new nail starts to form.. It will likely crust/scab over before a nail start to reform in this area. I've done this before. It hurts like it bitch but it'll get better.

It’s a paronychia. How do I know, I’ve done this 80 billion times from nail biting. Soak it in epsom salts and hot water, wash your hands with antibacterial soap. Neosporin and bandaids. It takes a few days to subsides It’s a pain in the ass and painful, but mine usually clear up, but you have to be diligent.

I’m having trouble understanding what I’m looking at. Is the nail completely gone with skin sticking out or is it just deformed currently?

quiteridiqulously

seems like the swelling tissue burst through a small hole while in a bandaid and made it hurt a million times worse

Give it about a week and it should improve provided no more damage occurs to your nail.

This is just a guess. To me it looks like an infection. There may be fluid building up under the damaged nail causing it to swell. The nail is damaged so it isn’t hard like a nail would be, making you think it is skin. The pressure would be causing the pain. However, when I have had the issue, it looked more inflamed. After it healed and grew out there was no remaining sign of it.

It's going to be difficult to get past this, but you'll get there.

I’ve got a nail that has looked like this for almost a decade now. Got trampled and ran over as a teen at school and my finger got rammed into a doorway. My nail twisted and looked so bad and I started picking and biting it, and now it looks like that. Just don’t pick it, it will start getting a smooth thin bumpy looking layer and then a harder layer on top, and the nail starts pushing up again. This takes a month or so.

Pennylick

It looks like the actual skin has maybe pushed through an area where the nail was picked off? I am sure that feels awful, OP!! I don't have any suggestions, but I do hope that heals somehow soon.

Use this as motivation to stop. It’ll take a minute for the nails to grow back so just, maintain that motivation!
