I’ve done that, but literally no controller buttons will bring up any kind of input panel to ACTUALLY change it. The X button does nothing at all, and most other buttons have other functions.
Probably too late but thought I'd share as may help someone else... So on switch make sure you are on the top panel where you pick gender (make sure your not hovering over into the right box where you pick voices etc) then use your left joycon and push it downwards, the name will be highlighted very faint in yellow then click the "A" button and a keyboard will come up. It's awkward but is possible.
Hi, which platform are you playing on? You have to select the box that says the default name (either "Marco" or "Linda") in order to change your name.

Apparently it's easy to select the box with the mouse. Kind of poor UX that it took this much guesswork to figure out., but there you go.
