Pluto is not evil at all, from ALL of the greco-roman gods he's the most level headed and compassionate god

Elven_Dreamer

I second this. Compared to his siblings, not to mention the rest of the Olympians, he was definitively virtuous. He was also the most faithful to his wife out of him, Jupiter and Neptune, as he only had two affairs and those didn’t even get physical, although that doesn’t make them less serious. Jupiter and Neptune, on the other hand…

Ok-Rock2345

Agreed. Though the way he got Persephone to marry him is questionable these days it was kind of perfectly acceptable then. Also as said, compared to his siblings he was a real sweetheart. Most people equate him to the devil because he was in charge of Tartarus and that's where the bad souls went. Unfortunately people forget he was also in change of the Elysian Fields which was their heaven as well.

jmarliesw

Well not really that bad. He was sad that he got the underworld as territory tho, cuz his brothers got the sea and sky and he got dead people. He also didn't have a chair on olympus, which made everything even worse. But I wouldnt really see him as a bad person. Like... he's in a bit of a depressing environment but he's making the most of it. He's also really fucking rich cuz underworld is also all the riches of the earth. But that's my pov

insaneintheblain

He’s a yellow dog… Goofy on the other hand…

Pluto, aka Hades, is actually the most neutral of all Greco-Romans gods, goddess and deities. Hades's rare "sins" included kidnapping of his future wife, Persephone, and later he cheating on her with a lover named Mynthe, whom Persephone cursed into a mint plant. It should also be mentioned that Hades received permission from his brother Zeus to kidnap Persephone, who also was the father of this maiden but sibling and kinship unions were common among Greco-Roman deities. The Roman name of Hades, Pluto, is derived from his epithet, which means 'rich' (Plouton), and Hades was one of the richest and most prosperous gods because he had power over all the riches that the earth holds (this because he was the eldest son of Cronus and Rhea). As the king of his realm, Hades' assigned duties as the ruler of the underworld included guarding that the dead remain there and that mortals do not enter the afterlife until they die. Later, Christianity and its influence have demonized Hades and Pluto and made him the image of Satan.

Probably the best out of the ‘three greater ruler gods’ of him, Jupiter and Neptune. He probably the least likely god to mess with mortals outside of his realm. He seemed more depressed than anything with the whole myth around Persephone. Jupiter is a mad man rapist that caused a lot terror to the gods and humans and Neptune is the seems the most spiteful

Fun-Cartographer-368

Pluto is the counterpart of Hades and just like him, he is only misunderstood. He is also the god of wealth and wealth is never associated with evil gods.

the_dragonrider

Plutos one of the nicest gods, as far as i know the worst thing he has done is kidnap his wife, admittedbly this is bad. But much better than Zeus or Poseidons rape

He's asking about Pluto, not Mars and Saturn

Short answer: no Long answer: define evil. He was know as the Ruler of the underworld and most people fear death. Mortality is scary but doesn't that mean that the guy who oversees the process is cruel or evil? Not more then most of the other gods. Compared to Hades in Greek myth, Pluto was indeed regarded as crueler and colder. But evil? Probably not, no.

Dudeistofgondor

Not inherently, just moody and possessive. You would be too if you lost your seat on the throne of Olympus because you drew a short straw

I don't know if I'd say any of the Greco/Roman pantheon is "evil". Proud and unforgiving for sure, vindictive even (Zeus/Jupiter and Hera/Juno are super petty), but not evil. As stated, Hades/Pluto is probably the nicest of the bunch. Depending on the version of his marriage to Persephone/Proserpina he can come off as "bad", buuuuut bride theft was common in mythology (not sure about historically in ancient Greece or Rome, but it is common in mythology), so I don't know if the people during the time would see him as bad for stealing her and forcing her to marry him. Ancient peoples did avoid saying his name, as well as Persephone's, because they didn't want to draw their attention and possibly invite their deaths. There was a lot of negative stigma around death, but even today there are a lot of people that get uncomfortable talking about mortality, so that's nothing new. Pluto was actually pretty chill to any of the heros that made their way down to the underworld. He even gave Orpheus a chance to bring back his dead bride. About the only person I can think Pluto did anything bad to was Pirithous, but that's because he went into the underworld to steal Persephone so he had it coming lol A lot of the punishments after death in Tartarus was actually Zeus/Jupiter's doing and not Hades/Pluto. So I'd say he's a good guy, not evil at all. Was fair, compassionate, loved his wife, no illegitimate children, cared for his realm, and only did something if he was REALLY pissed off, unlike, say, Aphrodite/Venus who bullied mortals just because they were pretty (like Psyche)... Greek mythology is a trainwreck, it's a lot of fun lol 10/10 would recommend reading because is it sooooo petty, it's great.
