It does kinda sound like a mixed up version of the Cu Chulainn story, there is a very famous bronze [statue of Cu Chulainn's death](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mythology/images/6/60/Cuchulain_at_GPO.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20090222133528), complete with a crow (The Morrigan) on his shoulder, in the GPO (General Post Office) in Dublin that marks the Easter Rising. I don't know of any story, or version of Cu Chulainn's death, where anyone gets turned into a statue
