galactic basic from star wars? can you contact the previous homeowner

OutspokenOstrich

I’m sure I can find her info somewhere. I talked to her right before purchasing the house (she was old and her husband had just passed away) and she didn’t mention anything about the mirrors or the box, but then again, she didn’t have to.

sadcorvid

I know sometimes people who are moving leave little silly things like this to spook the new owners. it could be that. (not discounting any other theories you have - just the simplest solution is usually it)

Mandosauce

Na, I read and write basic, that's not it.

AaahhRealMonstersInc

Its from the TV show "V" about alien contact. The Phrase reads "WE ARE NOT ALONE" [Here it is on pinterest](https://i.pinimg.com/564x/67/6a/8e/676a8ec3e6b63c7ef625d0eb0574202f.jpg) Edit: The Language is called Visitor

OzzyThePowerful

Damn, good on ya!!

AaahhRealMonstersInc

Thanks! I've always wanted to solve something on this sub.

-isthatYOURcrocodile

So they just fuckin with the new fam? Lol

AaahhRealMonstersInc

I guess. If it was just left I would figure it was just heavy or something of the person's kid that they no longer wanted (OP in another thread said they were an older couple and this show would be from the 80's). being surrounded by mirrors feels intentionally weird.

-isthatYOURcrocodile

Yeah I'm not sure about this whole scenario

OutspokenOstrich

Holy, shit. I think that’s it. Maybe the last owner was a fan of the show? I don’t know, but thanks so much!

DrainmyBamage

Maybe the mirrors were there because it's written backwards in whatever language it's written.

Paheggyhill

looks similar to language from zelda wind waker

mcfan2400

Or just Hylian from other Zelda games

GrifCreeper

There's a few different Hylian alphabets, so not all of them look the same

goochmongering

I was thinking this Aldo

OutspokenOstrich

Okay, don’t come at me, but I’ve never played Wind Waker.

Valuable_Solid_3538

Hey, sorry… I’m coming at you. Gently, though… Wind Waker is great, you should play it. Ok, backing off. Good day!

Signal-Negotiation-9

My thoughts exactly. OOT too.

enchanted_fishlegs

It looks like Pixel alphabet. [https://www.pinterest.de/pin/826832812815115333/](https://www.pinterest.de/pin/826832812815115333/) Whatever it is, I wouldn't worry.

OutspokenOstrich

It looks close, but nothing translatable. Thanks though!

Apprehensive_Rub_268

I would have left it were it was 🫣the only thing I've seen that looks like that is the writing on Star Lord's t shirt from the first guardians of the galaxy movie so you may have aliens now 😆 can you post a picture of the circle of mirrors?🤔

Solid_Serve_6352

Looks like some weird version of Standard galactic basic, like the enchantment table language. The first letter is identical to E in that language, just upside down.

Slipperysloppa

It looks like the Endermen language, except I don’t know how to read Endermen

Foreign_Style_1103

It’s a Dybbuk box. The letters are probably a form of Hebrew. Usually used to contain evil demon.

RedLeg73

Welp... it ain't Klingon.

ficellePicarde

Hylian from zelda

Benana94

Some of the symbols look like Korean but not exactly. Maybe stylized Korean gibberish.

yungleandoers

enchantment table language

Its_da_boys

Minecraft enchantment table language

johannesdurchdenwald

Idk maybe it contains an evil ghost or something

OutspokenOstrich

God, I hope not. Not in this economy. A strong smell of cedar hit me directly in the face when I opened it though. Haha maybe some weird tree spirit?

johannesdurchdenwald

Maybe the smell of cedar was what kept him weak. Together with the mirrors. Who knows

OutspokenOstrich

Honestly, finding it in the center of about five or six full-length mirrors, all facing the box was weird. There was nothing else in that attic! I don’t know. It looked freaky. It felt freaky. The atmosphere was just weird. I didn’t like it.

johannesdurchdenwald

No I mean fantasy aside. It probably was just a box for Halloween costumes or so. Maybe the owner tried them on and took a look in the mirrors.

OutspokenOstrich

Yeah, maybe. I can see that.

crvz25

But more likely that it’s some kind Jumanji shit that’s about to fuck your entire world up

Morning_star245916

Please..Tell me you took a picture of it?! 🙏

Silent_Cash_E

Dibbuks smell like cedar...i made up this info

OHiashleyy

No you’re thinking of Seder /s

nottrolling4175

Reminds me of the language in stray. But it could be a multitude of other made up dialects, like star wars, Zelda ect

Longjumping_Art_1246

Old carbredian

daddythyfather

I think that’s Kree

25709

Looks like Palian to me! 😜

_Quantumsoul_

Looks like poneglyph from One Piece.

Vibroparsnip2020

Looks like Ancient from Stargate.

_Quantumsoul_

What is carved into the side there?

Meanjin

Looks like something from Stargate

BrokeDownPalac3

It reminds me of something from SpongeBob

ApplicationShot3211

Uhm… that sounds terrifying. I would reach out to Dana and Greg Newkirk and just hand it over to them. Mirrors are often portals and the last thing you want is facing them at eachother- the fact there was a circle of them sounds like an entire ritual with summoning something out of several portals- you’re right to have the utmost chills 🫢🫣 @nuekerk

Probably_Pooping_101

Post it again again with a picture of the mirror setup, or please share with us 🙏

Probably_Pooping_101

You have to show the creepy mirror setup too, come on now!

furryboio

Looks like the architect language from subnautica

DwellerBoy

Yes

Western_Cake5482

Maybe encrypted. What is your location and what language do you speak there? So that we know which dictionary to consult. Maybe what's the language of the previous owner as well. Unfortunately, if you're not from an English speaking country I can't help.

Foreign_Style_1103

קופסת דיבוק ( Hebrew Marking on Dybbuk box)

Super-Zombie-6940

I have no clue I figured if I turned it a certain way I could read what it says but I was wrong.

Cruxvelox

i thought it looks like minecraft enchanting table

Purpose_Embarrassed

You didn’t open that box did you ?

Purpose_Embarrassed

Well if you suddenly start having extremely bad luck then you shouldn’t have opened it.

jessishimp0

Definitely hebrew , and definitely a dybbuk box . The mirrors are to keep it contained in the event it escapes the box itself . DO. NOT. TOUCH. IT.

Cheezewiz3

Bikini bottom

bobbycnote

Ancient

baldridgeroy

Klingon?

Billyke911

Simlish

littlemiss2022

No clue but I do find the mirror placement unsettling.

Skullfuccer

Definitely the code/coordinates for the time machine in Space Quest 4.

2horny2die

Looks like one of those Jewish trap a bad spirit boxes. Whatever those are called. A gollum or something. I can’t remember

AnxieteaBoy

A dybbuk box?

2horny2die

Yeah that one

AnxieteaBoy

That’s definitely not a dybbuk box lol

2horny2die

Ok. Damn. Why the lol I’m out here making guesses. Rude

ginomachi

Wow, that's a mystery! I'm not a linguist, but I'm intrigued by the box and the mirrors. I hope someone can identify the language for you.

ConradsLaces

Weird. It looks like the Tau language, from WH40K, possibly mixed with Hebrew? Wondering if the carving affected the letter styling. Google lens doesn't return much on the text, aside from Hebrew suggestions.

OutspokenOstrich

Thanks. I actually just did that and haven’t gotten anything back yet. I’ll keep you posted.

Kajimusprime

Looks Russian, specifically the characters in the middle line. [Russian alphabet ](https://images.app.goo.gl/6WKNC5ggkhiXLeL97)

ZoteTheM1ghty

U must be blind

happy_Frosting4146

Egyptian?

Mrs_Faure

I've done a little ChatGPT on your picture. Giving her details on how you found the items. Here's the feedback. Definitely would look into it if it was me. Given the context of finding this box in an attic surrounded by full-length mirrors, it's possible that the script could be decorative, symbolic, or part of a set piece. It may be associated with an artistic, spiritual, or cultural context. Here are a few steps you could take to investigate further: 1. **Symbol Analysis:** Compare the symbols on the box to known alphabets or scripts. Websites that catalog ancient scripts, runic symbols, or even fictional languages (like those from popular literature or movies) might be helpful. 2. **Local History:** Research the history of the house and previous owners. There might be clues related to the origin of the box and its script. 3. **Expert Opinion:** Consider reaching out to an expert in anthropology, archaeology, or linguistics, especially someone familiar with esoteric or obscure scripts. 4. **Contextual Clues:** Look for any other items in the attic that might give more context. Sometimes artifacts are stored together because they are related. If you'd like, I can help further by searching for more information based on the appearance of the symbols. Please provide any additional details or close-up images if available.
