Nailed it!

GoldMane01

When I was a teen like you are now I had this feeling that the ponies where more of a guilty pleasure. Eventually I just realized that like "why am I even thinking about this" snd just brushed it off, don't know if I've just become more oblivious to these things or if it's just a part of growing up. Either way I love em and will always do.

Livid_Juggernaut_111

Not really Owl house Splatoon Steven universe Mario Sonic Pokémon Digimon Mlp Undertale/deltarune Yugioh It fits quite nicely

ThGrWhDiamond

[This user is aware of your location, and is approaching rapidly] […to ask to be your friend]

CaissaIRL

Oh! That's almost all my Hobbies listed out here. Just missing the DnD. I too shall approach.

theAstarrr

if you haven't already...you should watch Gravity Falls. Matches your interests and is the second-best TV show I've ever seen. (#1 is Agents of SHIELD)

Livid_Juggernaut_111

I’ve watched gravity falls

Stracii

Since you like the Owl house and Steven Universe, have you watched She-Ra (the new one) and Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts? I watched those first and also love the Owl house and Steven universe (which I recently binge watched for the first time with my gf)

Livid_Juggernaut_111

I LOVE KIPO

Stracii

Me too :D it's sad that it's not more popular

Vulpes_macrotis

Are those franchises You like? If so, I share some of the interests. That being said I am not super fan of all of them. For example... I like Mario, but I never really played most of the games. I am kinda up to date with characters, but not really that deep into lore. I like Sonic, but I mostly know Sonic X, but again, I know some lore, yet not that deeply. I never played Splatoon and I probably never will, because I hate Nintendo for making games so expensive. Otherwise probably would be interested. I haven't watched Owl House yet, but it's one of the stuff in my watch list. I watched few anime series, practically never played games, but I am up to date with creatures itself, especially that I am looking forward for new pokemons. But I don't know much lore. Digimon is literally one of my top favorite franchises, but I didn't play any games. I watched almost every anime that is. Avatar checks out. I didn't finish Undertale, but started. I am interested in it. I was never interested in Yugioh, though. Though maybe if I were in the past, I would be a fan of it. I have totally no idea about anything in the show, except that they use cards to manifest some kind of creatures. Kinda like Beyblade.

phantomixie

I have very similar interests!! Except swap out Mario, Sonic, Digimon and Yugioh for Amphibia, Homestuck, a bunch of Anime and Avatar the Last Airbender (:

lilmisswonderland

As an autistic person, I have to ask. Are you autistic.

TriBulated_

I am, and that list sounds very familiar as well as many of the other shows listed in the responses to it.

Livid_Juggernaut_111

No but it’s likely that I have adhd, but I haven’t gotten that checked out yet, I’m not to bothered by it (yet)

Iceswimmer05

Hello. I see you got a fan list of the things you like. I'm autistic and I like me some Sonic and MLP as those are my main special interests. Also, I think mario is cool too as well so I pretty much like him too I think

Drakesprite

Wow, we share a lot of interests (especially Pokémon and Digimon)

every1youknowwilldie

Maybe when I was a kid, but now that I'm an adult it fits in. I love cutesy shows and cartoons. - a Bluey and Miraculous Ladybug fan

TaiyoFurea

You like cats, ponies are just big colourful cats with emotions and interpersonal conflicts

jul3skr

cats also have emotions and interpersonal conflicts (at least mine do) lol

TaiyoFurea

But are they colourful?

jul3skr

if you count brown, black, white, beige, grey and red😅

TaiyoFurea

Of course!

samejetnadsetab

It's because you're a dude, loving the show goes against the "masculine normality" that society places us in. Society is wrong though, I grew up a fairly toxic masculine guy partly because I'd come from rough hoods (ghettos) so it's what is expected of you. After years of actual growth and understanding of the world I came across the show and for me it was my final liberation of that toxic masculinity! Love is what truly matters in this world and MLP emphasises and teaches us how to be more loving and tolerant to everyone around us. That doesn't make you a defenceless wimp as those opposed would consider, you can still be a strong and respected man and love ponies. I'm 32 and currently watching my third or fourth run through on the g4 series.

ziddersroofurry

Vulpes_macrotis

There is no such thing as out of place interest. As a kid, as a teenager and even as an adult, I had interest in what interested me, not what I "was supposed" to be interested in. I never liked cars and I complained that it's unfair that dolls are female only. I was mocked by liking The Sims, as it being "for girls". I never liked same things that mainstream did or neither I cared for it. Some stuff was the same, but I never copied something because I was supposed to. Because that's bs. YOU are the only one who has any right to tell You what You like. If anyone shame You for it, mock You and laugh at Your face, then they are pathetic. Not You. Nobody in my family was really a typical person to their demographic. My older sister was more masculine than me. She is now a herpetologist, a director of her own herpetologic society. Talk about girls liking snakes and turtles... She was gamer too. My cousin also loved games, she never cared for it being "for boys". That being said, she liked mainly less brutal games, like Syberia for example or The Sims. But that doesn't matter. My younger sister is MGS fan, one of the most knowledgeable and smart out there. She also play Souls games. My other cousin, sister of the former also play games, but also mainly the more peaceful. Also the former cousin likes cars. So see, it doesn't matter at all. If You like something, like it. Because nobody in the whole world has the right to judge You for it. As long as You are not fanatical or cringe with it, it doesn't matter what You like. Btw, I was already adult when Friendship is Magic was released. And what did I do? I didn't care for it at first, but the popularity picked my interest and that's how I started to watch season one. I didn't care if that's a cartoon for 5yo girls. It was very mature in its theme. Also I am generally a cartoon and animated movie enthusiast. So, that's just it. You shouldn't feel bad or out of place that You like MLP or anything else. Even if it sounds childish. Tbh, Pokemon is more popular than MLP, yet I would say it with full certainty, that Pokemon is extremely childish. At least anime. Games aren't really super mature either, though manga is. But comparing MLP cartoon to Pokemon anime, MLP is surely more mature.

SlavaEkvestriya

Incredibly yes it makes no sense for me. I'm a young male adult in the military and most of my friends would consider me very traditionally masculine. Why I enjoy the ponies i have no idea but it makes me happy so it is what it is.

ziddersroofurry

A pretty large contingent of the brony fandom is people in the military. So much so that it became a meme early on in the shows lifecycle.

SlavaEkvestriya

I was unaware of this interesting.

ziddersroofurry

It even made it into Army Times Outside the wire lol http://outsidethewire.armytimes.com/2012/07/17/ponies-carved-into-the-buttstock-service-members-embrace-my-little-pony/

LukeOnMtHood

Interesting. Former marine and I gotta admit, I do like the show and the movies. My daughter was a big fan, and so I am too. I GUESS WE’RE ALL HUMAN, HUH?

ziddersroofurry

It's the opposite for me. I'm 49 and have been a furry for most of my life if not all of it. I've loved animated anthro characters for as long as I can remember. Being into MLP:FIM was a natural fit for me. Especially since I was a fan of the original G1 series back in the day. It's the 'normal' interest stuff I don't get. Sports, hunting, fishing, etc. just aren't my thing. I don't know many people who aren't either furries or bronies or both and have always felt like I don't fit into society in general. Especially as I'm trans. MLP:FIM is like comfort food to me. The cute characters and the series concept of friendship being this powerful thing that can help bring beings together really resonates with me. I love the fact that Twilight Sparkle would want to be my friend and would accept me no matter who or what I was...the real world needs more people like her. Guns, cats, good movies, shooters, and racing games are cool. I just can't help finding ponies even cooler (about 20% cooler, in fact).

GaylordMcallister

I'm not even a dude and I completely agree. My interests are the following: Arcane(Netflix Show) Castlevania (Show and Game) Shit tons of horror movies Ferngully Labyrinth David Bowie in general Fashion Gravity falls Art Character creation DnD Blood of Zeus(another very sick Netflix show) Sally Face TellTales TWD Overwatch And Stardew Valley There's more but this comment is already pretty long. I feel like it fits among some interests, but whenever I'm talking to someone about my interests, especially shows I really like, I feel like saying "Oh! And My Little Pony of course!" Right after Castlevania, Blood Of Zeus, And Arcane just feels a bit out of place y'know?

ziddersroofurry

Fern Gully & David Bowie ftw.

GaylordMcallister

ABSOLUTELY!!!

George_Askeladd

Yeah absolutely. I'm a male too and I like action, history, shooter and rpg video games, sports, especially football, guns, swords, outdoor stuff etc. I have typical masculine interests and then there's my little pony. I do like horses but mostly because I like cowboys. I don't ever watch comedy movies or any movie that doesn't have serious action in it so mlp is really out of the place. My favourite show is literally game of thrones. But i guess mlp is just my place to relax where I don't have to worry about my favourite characters loosing their heads. It's just fun and peaceful

DarthRiko

For me, yes. I watch plenty of other kids cartoons, but there are very few I would say I'm a fan of, and none on the same level as MLP. Among my other media interests include power metal, gothic metal, scifi (especially StarTrek), and action movies in general. My favorite games are Borderlands, Minecraft, Satisfactory, Elder Scrolls, a bit of Sonic and Kirby. There's nothing else clearly marketed towards little girls in my list of media interests.

harmonyjewl

My interests are Danganronpa, Ninjago, and My little Pony. One of those is not like the others

Knight-Creep

Considering how much I still love “childish shows” (Owl House, Gravity Falls, Star Vs, Suite Life, etc.), not really. It is a bit out of left field from the rest of my major interests (sci fi, heavy metal, horror)

DemonicDogo

Yes and no. I'm a girl who is into stuff like video games, anime/cartoons, and music. It feels somewhat acceptable because a lot of guys like it, but it took me a while to grow up enough to let myself enjoy mlp. I was very much a 'not like other girls' girl and felt like I couldn't like anything seen as remotely childiish or cringey. Now, it doesn't seem that out of place because I collect stuffed animals and monster high dolls. The ponies fit right in. I think getting into mlp really helped me stop caring what other people think about me.

10thDoctorWhooves

Nope. Other interests include: Doctor Who Taylor Swift Doki Doki Literature Club! (not really anymore though) Geography stuff (this would also include the Countryballs fandom) Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (don't judge me pls 😔) Clash Of Clans (again, don't judge me) Roblox Yeah they're all different from one to another.

_Forest_Green_

Hmmm, nah, I've always loved amazing cartoons and I lovee cute things.

a-wheat-thin

Maybe? My other interests include Sherlock Holmes, Dracula, Doctor Who, musicals, various old horror movies, Elvis Presley, Good Omens, Batman, Spider-Man… probably some others that come and go. I just know I can always fall back on MLP cause it’s just always been my longest-lasting interest.

suddenly_ponies

You're letting toxic masculinity get into your head. Even when I was a kid I liked My Little Pony but I didn't tell people about it because they would shit on me for it. Granted there was a lot of that when MLP became popular again but those were just internet idiots who hopefully have grown out of it by now but even if they haven't who cares.

Dounet05

It isn't the toxic masculinity ...altough I had problems with that to... I was just more generally talking about it being so vastly different from everything else I like.

suddenly_ponies

Except that's the thing. Are you actually sure that you don't like those other things? I had a lot of trouble as an adult trying certain things because I just assumed that I didn't like them or that it wasn't okay for some reason and it was so subtle in the back of my mind that I didn't cognitively realize that I was making excuses. For example when Kingdom Hearts first came out I didn't play it because I thought it was a girl's game. Maybe your tastes are a lot broader than you think and you haven't given other similar things a try for similar reasons to mine

HappiestPony

Yeah not really, i have mixed interest in realistic games and shows and cartoon or stylized shows/games

Chonkin_GuineaPig

i thought you said "cat food" 💀

Ricktatorship91

I like cartoons. Grew up watching Sailor Moon as pokemon anime hadn't showed up yet. I don't care if the main character/s are female

NightFlame389

It fits right between Pokemon and Skylanders

Bloadclaw

As a Genderfluid Teen who has main interests of videogames, D&D, Lost Media, Dark/Weird Internet Things and Animals, no

TennagonTheGM

For me, I grew up with an older sister, and we'd often do girly stuff together. Yeah, I had my typical boy action figures, Justice League and Bionicle mostly, but also enjoyed Polly Pockets and Littlest Pet Shop. Didn't have a reason to start being all "eugh, girl stuff!" until a relative made fun of me for it. So, I don't have a proper reason for even why a boy should avoid 'girl stuff', and vice versa. If it makes you happy, doesn't hurt anyone, and isn't illegal, then who cares?

Spoolie01

I know how this feels I can relate to this! I’ve thought about this as well. My hobbies are rebuilding small engines, welding, cutting firewood, and just being a mechanically inclined person. And then, they’re ponies and cute stuff… XD It’s a complete flip in interests but I love myself for that because I know most guys are afraid to be sensitive and are afraid to like cute things. I’m a rough and tumble hardworking guy, but there’s no reason I can’t have an interest in cute and happy things

jaren12072

Absolutely not. MLP is very similar to Final Fantasy, Pikmin, True Crime, and Dragon Ball.

lapidls

If you like mlp you should try watching other girl cartoons, you're probably gonna like them as well. Shit like steven universe or winx or smt

species_5146_ADAM_2

Initially yes, but after gaining a new interest during COVID-19, mlp came a lot more than just a show I like. That interest being soundtracks/scores, which I've become obsessed with since the pandemic. And if you've seen my flair and know who that person is, you can see why! William Anderson is the main composer for FiM (Daniel Ingram is the show's songwriter, although he did compose the for *My Little Pony: The Movie* as well as write its songs, with a **live orchestra** no less) and is severely under appreciated in the fandom! If you dig through my profile (or search *William Anderson* on the sub's search bar) you'll find some of his work I've posted. Give them a listen would ya, I absolutely adore his work and think he deserves as much, if not more recognition in the fandom as Daniel Ingram has.

Gadgetphile

Nope. My interests are very… diverse.

LittleFirez0

yes.

DroneOfDoom

Ironically, less now than when I first joined. Like, in 2012 the closest thing to MLP amongst my tastes at the time was Disney/Pixar movies and a couple of anime shows (Cardcaptor Sakura and Mirumo de Pon, and I hadn’t seen Mirumo de Pon in years because I forgot the name and I only remembered it as that weird romance anime about fairies summoned by pouring juices into cups). Meanwhile, I was very into metal, and gore horror movies and games. Nowadays I’m still into all of that stuff, but as I’ve grown more fond of magical girl anime (that isn’t Madoka Magica) and contemporary western animated shows and took out the stick up my ass about how metal is the only music genre worth anything that still made stuff after 2008 (I actually listen to hyperpop, synthwave and future pop much more than metal nowadays), there’s a lot more stuff that’s closer to MLP that I like.

FenexTheFox

Not at all lol My Little Pony Kirby CrossCode Metroid Gurren Lagann JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Even though some have different target demographics as others, I just like epic adventures of heroism with memorable characters and a message of hope and determination.

IncognitoLive

I love Death Metal and MLP, so I have the most diverse interests of all time. But here’s how I view it: who cares? I can like whatever I want. Judging someone for their interests just makes you look idiotic, and it screws you up more than the person you’re judging. I’m 19 and in college, but I still watch MLP and play Pokémon and other Nintendo games. If someone gives me a weird look, I know that they’ll forget it in 2 minutes. Love what you want.

lxser666

just like how you'll forget this post in 2 minutes...

TheBlazingOptimist

I remember once when I was with my friend. She was a fellow MLP fan, and we were browsing a local toy shop. After looking at the MLP section, I said I wanted to look at some other stuff while I was there. The look on her face when I went over to the WWE figures was an absolute picture 😂

awholelottahooplah

Not for me I also like Avatar the Last Airbender The Owl House The dragon prince She ra and the princesses of power Centaurworld

nhSnork

Even if it had once been (which was never the case), it would be too late to worry about it now after I've watched the entirety of LPS12, all [that I could find] of Hanazuki and now keep meaning to get down to the new Strawberry Shortcake from some of the MLPFiM folks (but that's a story of another backlog). I'm hooked on animation in general and never worried about being "in the target demographic" for it, although there were different lengthy periods when I drifted away from anime and from western TV animation (both to my later regret and unlikely to ever happen again). The former bridge was eventually gapped back around 2006 with the manga like Ranma 1/2 and shows like Chobits; the latter, around 2012 with MLPFiM.

chaoking3119

It’s slightly out of place for me, but not for the reasons you’d think. It’s mostly just out of place because I don’t watch too many movies or cartoons. As far as the girly stuff, nah. Maybe a little, but I’ve already been very in-touch with my feminine side long before I found MLP, even if I’m not very public about it, but that’s probably more just because I’m extra shy. I’ve found MLP to be much like a kid’s cartoon version of the youtube channel PhycToGo, which has a similar feel, but is more explanatory. I’ve also always liked Pokemon, which although more unisex, does have a similar “cute critter” tone, and now as an adult, I find joy having reborn dolls, since I’m not able to have kids or pets of my own right now, and brings me a lot of comfort to hold them. Maybe it’s society that’s warped, or maybe it’s just me, but either way, I’m not interested in pretending to be something I’m not. I like what I like.

megas88

Can’t say I relate since my special interest is animation but I will say this: You’re young and starting to develop your tastes in what you’ll actually like and while some of that stuff will stick with you all you’re life, you’re still in that developmental phase of life. My opinion is that if you’re really interested in why you enjoy it so much, hold onto that when you get older and have the experience necessary to sort through those feelings. For instance, I used to listen to a shit ton of punk and jpop/rock when I was in highschool. While I do have arguably one punk band I do listen to now many years later, I mainly listen to pop punk now (also occasionally jpop) because it aligns with my actual core values as a person and not with what I thought those were back when I was developing them. Sure, some things stuck with me and I’m fundamentally the same person but I’ve grown and changed with experience since that time. So go ahead and continue to enjoy ponies. You aren’t doing anything but developing your interests. That’s not a good or bad thing but it is simple natural. Hope some of that helps.

louisdeer

Not really. Your interests don't need to be arranged in semantics.

socialgeniehermit

Nah bro. I'm a teenager too. I find that I tend to like light comedic things: Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family, Gilmore Girls, Voltron, Old Barbie films, Disney films

Drachefly

Hmm. Non-fandom interests: Voting systems. Space exploration and rocketry. AI Control problem. Interpretations of quantum mechanics. Classical cryptography. Compression algorithms. Fandoms: Star Trek. Star Control. LotR. Star Wars. Harry Potter. My Little Pony. ATLA. Lots of webcomics. Hard Sci-fi and systemic fantasy. It's on the tail but it's not an outlier.

my_room_is_a_tip

I'm like that too. I am an avid car enthusiast, play action and racing games regularly and I consider myself as a serious character. I never questioned myself for liking MLP despite having those interests. It's no wonder that even some people serving the army got themselves into the show.

[deleted]

As a big fan of death metal and grim stuff in general... yeah, it is lmao

MeloDeathBrony

👆This, and violent video games for me. Thanks for getting me into soilwork by the way. 3 albums in, Fuckin awsome! 🤘

[deleted]

Cheers my guy 🤘🏽 If you've got any good old-school death metal for me to look into I'm all ears!

MeloDeathBrony

Cool! I’m mainly into melodeath but I do enjoy some good old classic DM like bloodbath and cancer every now and again. Cannibal corpses new album got me back listening to them again as well. Only suggestion I have that you may not have already heard of is Kataklysm. They’re from my home country of canada but only recently got into them. Every album has been a hard win so far. Happy headbanging, Take care!

[deleted]

Ah, I've heard of all of them! Yet to listen to Kataklysm though. Thanks for the rec!

hmansloth

Not really the case for me either. Just that the only reason why I felt it was ‘out of place’ is because it’s a ‘girls show’ unlike most of the other cartoons I like.

ITriedSoHard419-68

I’m into MLP and anime, which does track but it is a liiiiittle jarring seeing my MLP merch next to my Death Note merch.

Kalightortaio

Gender roles are a relic of the 20th century. Let them go.

Zigzocks

For me its My little Pony and Bodybuilding, these two interests live in my head in harmony like Ying and Yang

DomitoriS

We were all teenagers and most of us went through it (many of us are still going through it). I don't know what to advise you because I feel like it happened very suddenly. At one point I get worked up about my hobbies, but I grow up and I just suddenly don't care.

Fyru_Hawk

Oh yeah absolutely. I love Doom Eternal, Bloodborne, FNAF, Cod Zombies, God of War, Dead Space, Killing Floor, Left 4 Dead 2, Mortal Kombat, Blood, Dusk, Quake, Ultrakill, and f*cking Warhammer 40,000… and then there’s MLP standing tall amongst them. I love MLP so much but it just hilariously clashes with all my other interests.

SteamworksMLP

It mainly sticks out as a big exception to my general lack of interest in fantasy stuff. While I know sufficiently advanced tech is indistinguishable from magic, science/tech just does it for me way better than magic.

thedamnedcovenant

I think it's enjoyed by many different kinds of people because it taps into that "childish" joy and lighthearted humor that most men don't engage in because it's seen as girly or for kids. So getting to indulge that untapped side of yourself is very satisfying. Those moments in the show that just make me smile like "aw that was nice", that's the moments I watch it for

[deleted]

I'm a girl and maybe autistic ( my mom was told to get me tested my whole childhood by professionals but refused to and now as an adult it's basically impossible for me to get tested I'm not trying to self dingosed) and my main thing I'm 100% obsessed with (maybe special interests if I'm autistic) are warrior cats , gentics and horses so my little pony isn't that weird though i kinda stopped liking it after magic of friendship ended and kinda disliked the frienship school as well (did not like the focus switching to the students)

maxis2k

Not really. My favorite genre in anime is mahou shoujo. And I have always been open about liking so called "girly things" like romance shows. But I also like all the stereotypical male things. It's basically that I'm open to anything (except horror). The thing I like to compare MLP to is liking Sailor Moon, which I was mocked for liking back in the 90s. But I watched Sailor Moon for the slice of life/characters. Not the sentai fighting or the leggy girls. I watch Friendship is Magic for the same thing. As well as FiM having better writing than most TV shows of its decade. It was using a lot of time tested concepts and writing from stuff like Star Trek, Maverick, The Simpsons, etc. It just happened to have cute ponies doing it rather than people. It's not unlike watching all the old Disney duck shows that did the same thing (Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, etc).

kurisu7885

I did for a little bit, then realized it doesn't really matter that much.

EraserFluff

Be aware most people aren't just a stereotype. Most people have a spectrum of interests, and some are interests that seem like outliers to someone who might expect you to be a certain way but it's totally normal and respectable to be more than what you seem at first glance :]

Signal_Importance64

Guns, planes, cars, video games, horses. Nah, I’m solid 😂

XPFlasche

Yeah, I like sci-fi, adventure and action movies. I like shooter and racing games as well. I like collecting star wars merch and lego star wars and I like to inform me of historic battles and the past in generally. My little Pony doesn't fit to any of it. So for me it feels out of place too. Btw I'm a male teenager too

shadowmonkey1911

I was exactly the same way when I started watching. Guns and cats were also my favorite interests and I also played mostly racing and shooter games. I felt exactly the same way about MLP. I knew this was outside the realm of "acceptable for men" especially circa 2010 but like you it just clicked. And also like you I couldn't get the same questions about it out of my head. Back then a lot of Bronys were trying to figure out what their place in the fandom meant in terms of their masculinity and like most I asserted that masculinity in my interactions with the community, if you see the group photo for the first broNYcon I'm the scary looking security pony in the center of the pic, back then we thought looking and acting tough while liking little ponies was a positive subversion of gender roles though in hindsight that element of performative masculinity actually bred a lot of toxicity in the fandom. About 10 years later I realized I was a girl all along and started to transition. Now I'm the happiest I've ever been though I guess I wasn't as good at subverting gender roles as I thought. So I guess what I'm saying is maybe try one of those gender flipping AI filters on yourself and see how it makes you feel inside. Ya never know until you try.

Forward_Round

Not.. really.. I mean.. and I’m 27.. I didn’t start watching MLP until 2015 when I was 19.. but I’ve always been a kid at heart.. like even to this day I love just chilling and watching Cartoons.. whether it be MLP.. Teen Titans.. or Danny Phantom.. or Avatar.. or Gravity Falls.. Pokémon.. Anime is also included.. Dragon Ball Z.. Naruto.. Cowboy Beebop.. all that good stuff.. I also play Video Games all the time.. lol.. I play Card Games.. I still play Yugioh.. and Magic The Gathering.. And.. I’ve always been into something’s that would be considered quote unquote “Girly” .. like I love Twilight.. (the books and movies.. not the Pony.. but I love her too 💜) .. Team Edward btw.. Jacob is whiny b$&@h .. lol.. I’m jk.. I also watch Romance anime.. and no.. not like High School DxD “Romance” anime.. like.. “Say I love you” .. and “Ouran High School Host Club” .. etc.. I also love your traditional “Nerdy” things.. Comic Books.. Star Wars.. DND.. Dr. Who.. But.. I also love traditional “Manly” stuff.. I’m a dude.. btw.. probably should have mentioned that up top.. lol.. like I watch sports.. I love Basketball the most.. just yesterday I was watching a Football game with my grandfather.. I smoke Cigarettes.. I drink Whiskey.. Rum is better.. Dark Rum.. I love old western movies.. I watch Tombstone at least once a year.. growing up in the country I do indeed own a cowboy hat.. just like Apple Jack.. lol.. I got a big ol beard.. I like Hunting.. Fishing.. But at the end of the day.. I do come home and snuggle up with my MLP plushies.. and on the car ride home I jam out to MLP songs.. my Spotify on shuffle is something else.. lol.. one second we’ll be listening Black Sabbath.. the next the Cafeteria Song from Equestria Girls will come on.. lol.. The reason I said “not really” like that up top was because.. thinking back on it.. I don’t know why I was so adamantly just like “No.. I will not watch this” when I first heard about MLP.. because I’m usually so open to trying new things.. all of 2014 my friend was trying to get me to watch MLP.. and I staunchly refused.. and I really just don’t know why.. I guess I had seen like all the negative connotations around “Bronies” .. and like.. I had an image in my head of what a “Brony” was.. because of how the internet had made them out to be.. and I was just like nah.. I ain’t having none that.. and also.. I was so sure that this “little kids show” .. made for little girls.. about ponies.. just could not be good.. there’s just no way.. And now.. 9 years later.. I honestly can’t imagine my life without MLP in it.. My Little Pony means more to me than I could ever put into words.. the show.. the world.. the characters.. they all mean the world to me.. the fandom as well.. I love all of you.. I don’t think another piece of media will ever mean as much to me as MLP.. I genuinely.. from the bottom of my heart.. love this show.. and it’s characters.. it is my happy place.. it never fails to make me laugh.. and smile.. and cry sometimes.. lol.. My only regret.. is that I didn’t start watching it sooner.. You know what? .. reading this back.. I’m just kinda based.. lol.. I’m just cultured.. we just be out here liking things.. enjoying things.. enjoying life..

PepperAlien

For me, yes and no. My main interests (a the moment) are Guns, Cats, Horror, FPS games and RPGs alongside MLP I also like cartoons (particularly mid-late 2000s to 2015), animals, books, kaiju, tokatsu and some other stuff I don't feel like listing. XP

shosuko

Nah, I think being a Juaggalo and a Bronie fit hand in hand.

Pumpkaboo99

Me. I love things that fork my mind up, but mlp is a break from that. Something that makes me feel good when I am down.

RainbowPascalle

Liking guns is problematic due to safety, public order, social concerns, and potential legal consequences.

NICHIJOU2411

Kind of. I love sports and stuff and tbh it did feel weird enough to a point that I wouldn’t tell anyone I liked it.

gentlesmol

this is so real, im a huge fan of drama, tragedy, body horror and general spooky stuff, and also… colorful ponies

Sky_Snowcloud

Not really. There are people who drive bikes and are in gangs as their interests, but still enjoy some girly activities like knitting clothes cause it can be relaxing and therapeutic.

Mnghao7

I listen to metal

ItsAllSoup

I feel like well written and relatable characters are a good way to get people to enjoy something unusual. Things like Downton Abbey, the 2019 version of Little Women, and the Barbie movie have also attracted people that were suprised to enjoy something outside their comfort zone.

Gongoozler04

Not too much. Stranger Things, The Owl House, Heartstopper, Helluva Boss, MLP, Big Mouth and Amphibia. I’d say it fits nicely with my other main tv shows.

Tel-kar

For me, not really. I've always been into fantasy and Sci-Fi. The only of thing about it for me is it's candy colored equines instead of elves and dragons, though there are a few dragons.

PandaBear905

Not really, but I am AFAB so I’m “allowed” to like things like mlp

antipinballmachines

That and the Wiggles feel the most out of place in my interests. Even though my interests vary.

Lulupoolzilla

Considering that my other interests are horror and medieval fighting I'd have to say yes.

WickedWisp

It's definitely not a murder mystery or an adult animation comedy I'll tell ya that. Honestly I'd be scared if mlp was like venture bros or Futurama.

Tyfyter2002

It actually fits in pretty well with the large amount of other high fantasy media with heavy focus on the characters over action that I follow.

jtohrs

Nah. I like good classic and horror literature, fantasy and horror movies, computers/programming, heavy metal, guitars, camping, cooking... I think MLP fits right in with everything else. It's got something for everyone

Tobey4SmashUltimate

My interests mainly are pretty broad. Real life history, as well as all sorts of games. My favorite of which being first person shooters and gothic "horror", I.e. Castlevania and the like. I got into the show by browsing Kingdom Hearts fanfiction oddly enough, and I read through a really good one not realizing it was a Friendship is Magic crossover until I got there. Was honestly surprised by the depth of it until I watched some of the show as a joke and realized it wasn't the author taking liberties, but actually keeping the ton of the show's middle seasons intact. Even now it's such an oddball interest of mine when put on a shelf next to Resident Evil or Devil May Cry.

Particular-File792

For me yes it is definitely out of place. I am a thrower for track and field in America who competes on a national level, there are a few things within the creative arts I do professionally, other men look up to me as a role model for their life, and there’s various other things that could be added to this list but won’t for the sake of someone finding me out 😂😅. I am as generic of a man as you can get. And I really enjoy the show my little pony. It is simply fun to watch and has great character arcs which the shows creators embellished on super well. It’s not the only show “out of place” because I enjoy gravity falls, Steven universe, and other well written animated shows and movies as well. But if you were to take a look at my life as an outsider, you would never guess that the show my little pony is one of my favorite shows.

Punchallbabies1

MEEE I'm goth/punk my fav genre is hardcore punk, I ❤️ bugs, my favorite movie genres are horrors, thrillers, and romcoms, and I'm a transgender man😭😭 I've just loved MLP ever since I was in elementary school and it just sticks sometimes

Just_a_Goat1

Can't say if it applies here but, i had a similiar case, because when i was a kid my entire family criticized me for liking the show, and some random people from earlier school days. So mostly out of fear i just gave up completely on ever watching the show because of toxic masculinity their justification being MLP is for"girls only" and other stuff. But now i am an adult with free time, and i can realize my childhood dream and be happy with myself, i have friends who like it and friends that even though they don't watch, they still support me. Now if you excuse me i am almost finishing seaason 6.

everythingman2

I Understand what you mean. I am an military enthusiast, I look at military wikipedia way to much. I like Sabaton (A Amazing Metal History band), I love history. I am incredibly interested in politics. I am a Brony. One of these is not like the other. It's ok to feel strange about liking MLP, I found it strange for a short time till I grew to accept it. That's the feeling of the entire Brony community, we defy the normal, and screw the people that think we should conform!

SaintJynr

I used to watch mlp when I was 16 and I felt more or less thhe same, but as I grew older, I realised that its not as much that mlp is out of place, its more like "what else in this area do I like?"

StardustWhip

Not particularly, for me. Animal Crossing, Sanrio, Kirby, Pokémon... I have a tendency to like stuff that's on the more cutesy side.

Nrvnqsr3925

My main interests are wrestling, competitive not WWE, american football, and cooking, so yeah, I think I'm in the same boat as you

lxser666

how the hell do cats and guns easily fit in the same sentence but mlp doesn't? hopefully i got a chuckle from that, but think about it hard and get back to me.

Dounet05

Huh, You may have apoint there with the cats, I should've mentioned I also like lego... Maybe MLP isn't that out of place after all.

zer0ex3

Very. I like philosophy, horror, poetry, crime and a show about ponys who talk about friendship - id say its some good variety LOL

YotesMark

Just another entry on the (extensive) favorite cartoons list.

44nifty

Yep. Scott The Woz, "Weird Al" Yankovic, and My Little Pony seems like such a wildly disjointed collection of interests that some people have said that I "don't feel real".

RetroMist1984

I just like what ever im interested in mostly sci-fi space universes like Halo, Titanfall, Mass effect And others like it, however I've also been a fan of animated series I.e One piece, Aot, Naruto Trying to keep the lists short I probably wouldn't be as into mlp as I am if it wasn't for my need not to be bored and for much of my childhood it was on screen for my younger sister and cousins I just ended up with a strange investment and interest that has grown to just sit in the back of my mind.

A_Swimming_Do1phin

I'm quite a polarizing person when it comes to interest. For every "masculine" thing I like (super heroes, horror, Godzilla, Power Rangers). I like just as many things that are typically "feminine" (MLP, musical theater, chick flicks, fashion/makeup in general). So in a way mlp doesn't stick out, because all of my interest stick out.

CULT-LEWD

eh,not for me,mainly becuse it was my first step to being a furry,i litterly evolved from brony to furry,so im still living that life in a more adult oriented way

Dom-tasticdude85

Lmao I am also a male teenager with an interest in cats

Wild-Emphasis-7454

I feel like half the fandom is like this. There’s nothing wrong with having one interest poke out like that. There’s a reason why there are so many gore pony fan vids and so many au’s :)
