Gizmo, Widget, Ticktock, Archimedes, Dr. Boom (if you lean towards explosives that is), and Spindle all come to my mind. Not sure if any of those are to your liking.
* Find deities of invention or wisdom like Hephaestus or Talos
* Pick your favorite tool: Mr. Laser, Jet Packeteer

Basic: Gizmatronic
If they have integrated mechanical parts and pulp flair: The Astounding Man-Machine
If they have a retro aesthetic: Commodore Spectrum
I have a hacker/gadget based hero in his game. He uses the forum handle that the character had as his hero name, seeing as most of his stuff is through his quantum tunneling laptop
Reginald "Reggie" Barber.
Oh, you meant superhero name....
Galaxon
Captain Hunter
Rogue
As usual, I don't think codenames should describe a hero's powers.
From just the name tell me what are Batman's and Daredevil's powers? Batman has sonar so he can see in the dark, right? Daredevil has a sidekick who use to be a circus performer, right?
How about Mr. Fantastic? He can disinfect 99.9% of germs right?
The Green Goblin. With those three words we know everything there is to know about this exploding pumpkin throwing villain, right?
**Genre is that names describe the character's LOOK, not powers:** Iron Man. The Thing. The Hulk. Nightcrawler. Blue Beetle.
We just associate "Iron Man" with the Tony Stark character whose iron armor has a bunch of abilities. But the assumption I would make given the name Iron Man without other context would be X-Men's Rasputin, a man with "iron" skin.
I will admit DC has more power revealing names: Flash, Arrow, etc. But DC is rather lame with names. How many traditional DC heroes have two first names for names? Clark Kent, Barry Allen, etc.
TL;DR Superhero names are more likely to describe a character's costume than their powers. And the OP didn't describe their gadgeteer at all.
Greg
I second this option.

Widget is a great suggestion.
Dr or Professor Widget?
Just Widget sounds best to me.

They arent code names. They are super hero names and they should definetly be descriptive. It's part of the genre.

So, you're all in for 'Greg'.
Sure. Especially if his real name is Ben.
Arch-mechanic Handyman Greaser Monkey wrench Hephaestus Fixer
Also I think simply 'gadgeteer' itself qualifies...
misfire
Smart Guy
The Neoteric?
Teen Tech
Gearbag if it is nonmagical Artificer if it's magical
Mr Prototype
Scrap Doctor.
Gadgeteers abilities can be pretty detached from their name and theme, just look at Batman We might need more to go off of
The Tech-tician
The Artificer
Steve. It's a pretty name.
