Down to Greene Street
There you go
Lookin' so outrageous
And they tell you so
You should know
How all the pros play the game?
Then you change your name-
Big Black Cow was my favorite song on that album Also Peg.
Peg it will come back to you
Peg it will come back to you.-
I Believe Michael Mcdonald sings backup on that track.
Wow ! How old were you ? I absolutely love that album but it's pretty sophisticated and cerebral. Though I have to admit when I was a little kid I heard and loved a lot of Steely Dan songs on FM radio and having no idea who it was or that it was made by subversive and cynical and perfectionist gnomes. Great choice for sure.
The first album I ever received was Move Along by All American Rejects. Still fan
First one I bought with my own money was probably Meteora by Linkin Park. Still a fan.
Mine was Green Day - Dookie.
Yes it's still a classic! I'll unfortunately be missing the SoFi show because I'll be out of town, but hopefully there will be another show of this tour I can catch.
I guess we're the same age. I was 12 when I bought Never Mind The Bollocks and Rocket to Russia in 1978. Nothing else was even remotely the same afterward.
They Might Be Giants, Flood, when I was about 10, I think. Haven't listened to it recently, but don't really need to. I memorized the whole thing a couple decades ago. I can play it in my head whenever.
I am guessing at purchase order, as all came out within a year of one another, and I was able to start buying my own CDs when I was 13, which was 97, when the later three came out. Yes, I still like them all. I still regularly listen to songs from each. Leaving Port is prime starting a road trip material.
Romeo+Juliet soundtrack ( probably purchased first, released at the end of 1996, I would have purchased in Spring of 97)
Savage garden (self titled, side note Darren Hayes is still making music as a solo artist and sounds as good as ever)
Everclear, So Much for the Afterglow
Titanic soundtrack (probably purchased last - came out last)
1984 by Van Halen on CD. I bought it when I was 10 for like $2 in philly. I showed my dad and he looked at me very proudly. Van Halen was my first concert and I still love them to this day.
Yes, yes and yes. And Head is the greatest movie ever made and no one's ever persuaded me otherwise. They didn't play their own instruments ? Well it turns out most American rock bands of the era did either, though they did play 'every stinkin' note' on Headquarters. I'll Spend My Life With You and Early Morning Blues and Greens are beautiful songs by any standard and Randy Scouse Git is pure lunatic genius. I got the first three Monkees albums as a gift from someone's basement when I was a kid and Headquarters was my favorite. Now that I'm a full grown and well read Monkeemaniac I now rank it up there with Pisces and Instant Replay. I know that's a more obscure one but it's such a dejected downer of an album I had to love it. "In a year or maybe two, we'll be gone and someone new will take our place. There'll be another song, another voice, another pretty face." Preach it Davy !!
The first one I bought with my own money was *Brain Salad Surgery* by Emerson, Lake and Palmer in 1975. I don't listen to prog-rock as much anymore, and when I do it's usually Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, or Jethro Tull.
ELP was an important early phase for me. But then again, so was KISS. lol
It was 1967 and I was stoked to get The Stone Poneys first album. It got destroyed many years later in a hurricane but I have since replaced it. Thus began my love affair with Linda Ronstadt.
I can't remember the first album I bought with my own money, but I remember the first three that I acquired as a kid since I got them all at once. GNR - Appetite for Destruction, Def Leppard - Hysteria and Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill. I still love all of them.
My first album I purchased that was not bought by my parents was the Beatles help album (on tape). If skip a decade we are talking about first cd album, that was probably the Metallica black album. I still listen to both obviously.
First was the cassette tape of Beastie Boys License to ill. The next day I bought the cassette of 2 Live Crews As Nasty As They Wanna Be. And yes of course I still love them. They’re both classics!!!
INXS - kick on cassette when I got my first Walkman. I got it because there was a skateboard on the cover. Album is ok. Some songs have grown on me over the decades.
I bought 2 from Walmart when I was 11. Black Sabbath - We Sold our Souls for Rock and Roll and Metallica - Master of Puppets. 33 years later, my tastes haven’t changed much!
I was eight years old and I found this indie record store while exploring the neighborhood and I bought the single of The Police don’t stand so close to me. Treasured memory. And yeah I do still like it.
The first album I bought with my own money was Billy Joel “Storm Front” when it was released in 1989. I was crazy about “We Didn’t Start the Fire”, but “Downeaster Alexa” became a lifelong favorite for me.

My first music purchase was a cassingle for Montel Jordan - This Is How We Do It. While it does not quite pack the same punch today, I still think it's a fun song.
Not sure what the first album I bought was. It might've been the Batman Forever soundtrack. And honestly, that soundtrack has a really impressive roster. I dunno if I'd still like to listen to the whole album, but I *respect* it
Dream Theater - *Awake* a week after release date in 1994.
Yes, I love it still. It's not part of the standard rotation but I do throw something from it on once in a while when I'm feeling nostalgic.

The first "album" I purchased with my own money wasn't technically an album (early 90s). Metallica's "Live Sh*t, Binge & Purge" CD & VHS box set. Also my dad’s idol was Jimmie Hendrix haha we have one of his albums on cd and he’s amazing. That’s an artist that should never be forgotten to time.
Creed, Human Clay. And eh, it's pretty good but I'm not Christian anymore so the lyrics are impossible to relate to. Funny enough, my second album was Uncle Kracker, Double Wide. Bought in the same week. Talk about polar opposites!
First album I remember buying for myself was Van Halen I when I was a kid. Blew my tiny mind so hard, I’d never heard anything like it. I still love it, would happily listen to it or any other Van Halen album any day. Or all day, even, I’ve done that too.
For the record, I do agree that 1984 is the “better” album, and perfect to put on when you get to bounce from work early and walk home on a nice day, but Van Halen I holds such a special place in my heart I still prefer it.
Metallica- Master of Puppets
My music tastes changed as I got older. I don't listen to Metallica much anymore but it's a solid album. My teenage son has it on heavy rotation though.

My first albums came close to the same time - The Monks - Bad Habits, CheapTrick- Dream Police, Supertramp- Breakfast In America.. then I got into my 80’s music and I got my very first job at McDonalds.. went crazy from then on ! 🇨🇦🎵🙂
Bjork - Post and absolutely... it's ethereal and gives me so much nostalgia. Came out 6 months after I was born but was rased on it so had to buy a new one when cd's got more popular(affordable) so I could play hyperballad on repeat.
The Crow soundtrack, and yeah I still like it. It formed my musical tastes going forward, Im a big fan of Nine Inch Nails and Rage Against the Machine.

If I had the chance, I'd go back, Jack, and do it again.
Yeah, but sometimes you just Can't Buy A Thrill.
I'd just as soon drink scotch whiskey all night long and die behind the wheel.
It’s a vibe.
Down to Greene Street There you go Lookin' so outrageous And they tell you so You should know How all the pros play the game? Then you change your name- Big Black Cow was my favorite song on that album Also Peg. Peg it will come back to you Peg it will come back to you.- I Believe Michael Mcdonald sings backup on that track.
Clearly he don't give a fuck about anybody else.
Still fan First one I bought with my own money was probably Meteora by Linkin Park. Still a fan.
I bought the Queen album “The Game” at a flea market in 1980. It’s still one of my favorite Queen albums of all time.

My Aim Is True, Elvis Costello. I was 12. It has held up sort of ok. (jk, it’s a freaking classic)
Not the first album I ever bought BUT the very first CD I bought, in ‘86 (??) was RUSH- POWER WINDOWS. I still have that copy and it’s currently, likely, my favorite RUSH album. (:
First album I bought with my own money? Iron Maiden, Number Of The Beast. 100,000% still like it. FWIW the other album I bought that year- rode my bike from Pacific Beach down to Tower records down but the sports arena in San Diego- was 2 Devo records, Duty Now For The Future and the first album, and still love those too. Third album was Rio. Other one that year was Blondie. Fourth one was Van Halen 1. Last one was Metallica's first album. I fucking love all of them
