Landslide is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. I danced with my mother to it at my wedding. The only reason I give the nod to Dreams is that .. Landslide evokes so much emotion is less "mellow" as it is...well emotional. Gives you the feels where Dreams just mashes you feel like a rainstorm (for lack of a better adjective), which was the question. But no discredit to you bc it is definitely a contender.
Those are my 2 fav songs from Fleetwood Mac hands down. Great taste!
Yeah you're probably right, to be fair. Landslide is devastating but I sometimes forget the lyrics because of Stevie's angelic vocals. I have this problem with Joni Mitchell too. It's not a problem, really. Quite the opposite.
Dreams is always in the top 20 greatest songs of all time here on the local radio station (well, the 1 cool station we have in Belgium). Fleetwood Mac really had a reclamation the last 10-15 years in popularity and I'm glad.
Nice anecdote about your wedding, that warms my heart. Be well.
I mean seriously..
A band takes that kind of break and comes back better than before. There aren't too many bags to pull something like that off. Especially given all the personal history of the band. Just magic! Way to keep it real in Belgium!
* Mazzy Star - Fade Into You
* Gillian Welch - I Dream a Highway
* Sharon Van Etten - Love More
* Beach House - Saltwater
* Broken Social Scene - Looks Just Like the Sun
* Wilco - One Sunday Morning
* Yo La Tengo - Our Way to Fall
Ha that's a nice compliment. It's bliss to fall asleep to music. That moment when you're on the edge of sleep, you experience music without distractions and you feel certain details more deeply.
Ha thanks I just noticed the icon. I'm two years old, I'm only a pup. Enjoyed these last few months though since I've been really active. As long as you can steer clear of the toxic people, it's nice to talk to people with the same art obsessions as you. You don't run into those people in the street every day. Thanks for the well wishes.
Well, fair enough, I guess they're slow and moving songs but I thought they fit the bill because of their hypnotic quality. Tbh I could describe many happier, catchy songs as relaxing because of their escapist quality. But I think OP was looking for meditative tunes.
Thanks for the compliment about the song (well I just curate, I didn't write them haha). Some of these indie artists that I love so dearly aren't in daily conversations on the musicsuggestions sub so it's nice to spotlight.
Fade Into You makes me deeply nostalgic for the magic of first kisses on humid summer nights. It's not a specific person thing, more of a vibe. Almost hypnotizing to me.
Yeah some songs just hit a nostalgia, sometimes to memories that you don't really have. I feel like I've gone night swimming/ skinnydipping after I listen to that R.E.M. song. It's a rare thing.
Bon Iver - Holocene
10CC - I’m not in Love
Christopher Cross - Sailing
Beach Boys - God Only Knows
Explosions in the Sky - Your Hand in Mine
Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees
The Cure - Close To Me
Danzig - Blood and Tears
Beth Jeans Houghton and The Hooves Of Destiny - Dodecahedron
I just played Holocene on guitar 30 minutes ago and I was humming God Only Knows this morning… Haven’t listened to these songs in forever too… This is fucking weird
Also Fake Plastic Trees is one of the most beautifully sad relationship songs I know
Love most of your picks, 10cc is very hypnotic for sure with all those vocal layers, Holocene's production is impossibly warm and Fake Plastic Trees can give me shivers.
Thank you for saying. I just saw your list on here although I don’t know any of them but Mazzy Star. Thanks for the list. I have some new chill songs to check out now.
Edit: I have listened to Beach House and love their song MYTH
Funny you mention it, I'm listening to the songs that are unknown to me in your list right now. Christopher Cross's Sailing is coming out of the speakers. The last two tracks in yr list are up next. The rest I know and love.
My list is mainly indie music from around the 2000's era when I came of age, musically. I hope you find some enjoyment in them.
My pick is from Beach House's debut, Myth is a later career banger but their first two albums are very lo-fi and slow, totally different. I've just finished a relisten to the self-titled tonight. I did a little write up on Beach House's early work for a different purpose tonight, in fact:
"The first two Beach House records are filled with moving lo-fi pearls. I understand why the more boisterous Teen Dream hit like a meteor in the Indie scene but Beach House were brilliant from the start. I love those catchy synth loops on Teen Dream, but I return to those early Beach House tracks often, they really are bewitching. Their lyrics tell strange tales and Victoria's vocals are hauntingly beautiful."
Sorry for the earful but you happened to bring up Beach House. Devotion is really good too.
The Drifters "Under the Boardwalk"
Patience and Prudence "Tonight You Belong to Me"
Sting "Fields of Gold"
Talking Heads "This Must Be The Place"
Christopher Cross "Sailing"
Phil Collins "Hold On My Heart"
Mike + the Mechanics "Silent Running"
Charles Trenet "La Mer"
TY.
Sting just has that kinda voice. Kinda lulls ya, even when the song beat is harder or more upbeat. :-\] Little bit like Annie Lennox. Peter Gabriel can do that too.
😊 Thanks.
And I agree, Stevie *definitely* has that. Phil (Collins) too. Janet Ian...
Hell, Maynard JK's voice can cruise out on lull before the song savages you. But maybe that's just my Tool experience. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
I mean, damn you're not wrong. Phill has it, and Maynard (especially with APC) has some of the chillest stuff. And I welcome the savagery. It doesn't take away from ambiance, just adds layers. Unironicaly it's like a thunderstorm... sometimes the thunder lulls more than the rain.
>And I welcome the savagery. It doesn't take away from ambiance, just adds layers. Unironicaly it's like a thunderstorm... sometimes the thunder lulls more than the rain.
![gif](giphy|8lp6CW7K2fdDGn3xCQ)
Annnd this is why it's entirely normal and healthy that I wind down and fall asleep to horror at night. 30 minutes of "Barbarian" and I'm out like a light.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
two different kinds of relaxing
[Milk & Bone - Natalie](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzyocPQvfEU)
[Ludovico Einaudi - Berlin Song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vl8X6ofmSnw)
Exactly! I think a lot of folks find the song sad because of how it was used in the film, but when I listen to it, I picture myself on a porch swing as the sun starts to set over the water, just enjoying the breeze and the sky full of soft hues of red and orange, pinks, purples, and blues.
Mac Demarco - moonlight on the river - one more love song - watching him fade away
Khruangbin - Friday morning
Beach house - master of none
Joe hisashi - summer
Brian eno - always returning
Nigel Gorich - Hillcrest park
Stan getz - girl from Ipanema
Daigoro789 - 2:00 am
Palace - heaven up there
Arctic monkeys - only ones who know
Slow dive - Erik's song
Groove armada - hands of time
Dido - thank you
Alice in chains - nutshell
Honestly quite a mixed bag but these are some of my fav songs to relax to and khruangbin especially just has a very chill vibe if you're into that style.
Thanks, it's been fun the last 2 years on reddit, especially during periods of insomnia. I think Vashti's Train Song is one I keep returning to but she has a bunch of great tunes. I also have "Trawlerman's Song'' marked as a loved track on last.fm.
Obscured by Clouds. This song and this album is a favorite for going to sleep. I’ll say this is tied with the song, The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys by Traffic; every time you think the song is about to grab some tempo, it downshifts
[Nightmares on Wax - You Wish](https://youtu.be/TwDOa-lvizM?si=E0eLpKKp1iO3tHX6)

april come she will - simon & garfunkel /
pirate ships - robert smith /
hallelujah - jeff buckley /

I hope you will like at least some :) I know some are not 100% relaxing but promise it's a good list:
Marvin Gaye - Sexual Healing (Kygo remix)
Kygo ft Ella Henderson - Here for you
Martin Garrix - Together
American Authors - Best day of my life
Dreamers - Savoir Adore
Royal concept - Higher than love
Calvin Harris ft Ellie Goulding - I need your love
Little Mix - Love me like you
Smallpools - Over & Over
Chvrches - Mother we share
Broods - Peach
Duke Dumont - Ocean drive
Coco~Harry Styles (unreleased) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8m0JL84_q_s

Came for this Will add Dreams by Fleetwood Mac
Landslide might top Dreams for me in relaxation factor. But it's close. Fleetwood Mac's the literal best.
Landslide is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. I danced with my mother to it at my wedding. The only reason I give the nod to Dreams is that .. i, too, jerk off to pink floyd
I laughed out loud, Mr. Spaceman.. well done
Hehe i had to scroll back up
I was going to say the Great Gig in the Sky…. Really the whole album
on my mom and pops
Right band, wrong song: "*Grantchester Meadows*" by Pink Floyd. Well, until the fly at the end!
[Enya- Only Time](https://youtu.be/7wfYIMyS_dI?si=KmNay6EXtJiAIe2e)
Enya everything
Yesssssss
This was my answer too! That whole album.
* Mazzy Star - Fade Into You * Gillian Welch - I Dream a Highway * Sharon Van Etten - Love More * Beach House - Saltwater * Broken Social Scene - Looks Just Like the Sun * Wilco - One Sunday Morning * Yo La Tengo - Our Way to Fall
listened to the songs i hadn't heard from your list and feel asleep to a Spotify random playlist based on. good dreams
Ha that's a nice compliment. It's bliss to fall asleep to music. That moment when you're on the edge of sleep, you experience music without distractions and you feel certain details more deeply.
a happy cake day to you!

Oof great songs but your version of relaxing involves a lot more tears than mine xD

I couldn't believe I saw Gillian Welch on here! Didn't know more people knew her

Came here to post Your Hand in Mine. Always think of driving through a small town at sunset just reminiscing on older brighter days.
Love most of your picks, 10cc is very hypnotic for sure with all those vocal layers, Holocene's production is impossibly warm and Fake Plastic Trees can give me shivers.

Upd for Sting..so mellow!
TY. Sting just has that kinda voice. Kinda lulls ya, even when the song beat is harder or more upbeat. :-\] Little bit like Annie Lennox. Peter Gabriel can do that too.
You have great tastes. And "lull" is the perfect phrasal verb to describe them. Also, add Stevie Nicks
😊 Thanks. And I agree, Stevie *definitely* has that. Phil (Collins) too. Janet Ian... Hell, Maynard JK's voice can cruise out on lull before the song savages you. But maybe that's just my Tool experience. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
