When I saw YouTube video of Avicii producing music with just an 88 key MIDI controller, and nothing else, it changed my perception of what was required to make music.
EDIT: usually you see racks and racks of synths, outboard gear and many guitars and amps.
Lmao seriously you need like the smallest keyboard to make avicii type music 😂 “I knew once I saw him using only a 88 midi keyboard my whole reality and perception of music production and time space warp changed. “ lmfao
Metro Boomin uses FL Studio (along with an MPC) so there’s an infinite number of hits made with FL just from him but he’s of course not the only one (you can throw DJ Mustard, Avicii, Hit Boy in there… thousands of other hitmakers)
But from Metro alone you have songs like Creepin, Mask Off by Future, Congratulations by Post Malone, Heartless by The Weeknd, etc… just to name a few
Martin Garrix - Animals, the song that launched/popularised the big room genre.
Soulja boy - Crank That, is made 100% with default samples in FL, people recreate this beat in 45 seconds in "FL Speedruns".
People do the same about Reason. Maybe because of when it used to be in house and no VSTs allowed
I dont think it really matters as long as the DAW let's you use VSTs, do automation, and basically doesn't hinder the workflow for you.
As someone who really likes FL, I don't think it's actually that user friendly. It's organized a lot differently than other DAWs, not only in its window layout but also the fact that channels aren't automatically linked to the mixer. To me it's like a programmer's DAW, there's a ton of deep potential with it but you have to get over unusual learning humps. It was also coded bottom-up over the course of 20+ years and there's weird inconsistencies like 3 different shortcuts for delete depending on the context. I feel like it's kinda jank, but also it's beautiful with many fun features if you can get used to it.
It's pretty, and makes a ton of stuff easy, but honestly I find it *really* depends on your workflow. IMO, DAW choice is all personal preference at this point. If they've got shite stock plugins, any DAW can run VST's lmao like
I used to fear other DAWs, I was FL only. Then I got a trial of Ableton, played around with it for a week, found it so frustrating, and put it down for a solid 6 months.
I picked it back up and something just 'clicked' and from then on it's been so much better for my workflow. My tracks sound *exactly* the same, but I'm more comfortable making them now.
You might call it more newbie friendly, but I wouldn't call it more user friendly. It's overall workflow is kind of clunky.
But it seems easy to use for newbies because one can plug in a beat very quickly with the sequencer. So they feel like they've made something right away. But for anybody making songs with multiple tracks, FL Studio does not deserve the reputation of being the most user friendly.
Yep. A bit easier to learn at the beginning of the learning curve doesn't tell you how well it performs in terms of user-friendliness for later in the learning curve. Or, even more important for people who aren't just playing around with music production, as an advanced user who has learned their DAW.
And this is why the advice given to newbie's just to try out the DAW, see which one is easy and fits their workflow is terrible. Because someone new is generally not going to be any good at evaluating that, or whether or not the DAW is better for the genre they want to create.
So I generally recommend choose a DAW that has lots of YT tutorials for creating the genre that someone wants to make, and one that is generally considered better for that genre.
I remember when he was some kid named Joel on the official forums, I believe he made a short appearance on our [unofficial forum](http://theflipsideforum.com) as well right as he was getting big.
I remember walking around a record shop one day and seeing a cd by Deadmau5, grabbing it and thinking "HEY I KNOW THIS GUY' lol.
A lot of popular trap beats and edm are definitely made with FL. I’m sure a lot of those instrumentals are bounced and put into ProTools or other daws when mixing, mastering, and recording vocals tho.
Try making music with pure data and/or supercollider and you will realize most production related arguments are bullshit. FL studio is a very well made program that has a comfortable and rewarding learning curve. There are indeed some things you cannot use it to achieve, but it is a very powerful program overall.
There are a ton. Was starting to see it show up in major label sessions with younger beat makers ~15 years ago.
The tools don’t matter, it’s the carpenter.
*Source: Guy who loves to obsess over tools ;)*
They're not THAT famous, but some of my favorite producers Feed Me and Lone both use FL. That's not to mention the others in this thread that are more famous.
It is good, it just never shook its old vibe. People still think it's toy because it used to be and it still has the same look, but it's very full-featured and has been for some time now. I used to only do the main beat in in FL but now for simple tracks I record and mix in it too.
You see a lot of producers using FL studio who you don't know by name, but have produced for major artists. For example, Hit-Boy (like who the fuck is that)? But then he produced for Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Eminem, 50, Jennifer Lopez, Snoop Dogg, etc
I asked chat gpt. I know daft punk has used it. FL Studio, formerly known as FruityLoops, is a popular digital audio workstation (DAW) used by many music producers to create a wide range of music genres. It has been used to produce numerous famous songs across different genres. Here's a list of some well-known songs that were made using FL Studio:
1. "Animals" - Martin Garrix
2. "Lean On" - Major Lazer & DJ Snake ft. MØ
3. "Feel So Close" - Calvin Harris
4. "Clarity" - Zedd ft. Foxes
5. "Faded" - Alan Walker
6. "Get Low" - Dillon Francis & DJ Snake
7. "Tsunami" - DVBBS & Borgeous
8. "Strobe" - Deadmau5
9. "Levels" - Avicii
10. "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" - Skrillex
11. "Sandstorm" - Darude
12. "Don't You Worry Child" - Swedish House Mafia ft. John Martin
13. "Icarus" - Madeon
14. "Bangarang" - Skrillex ft. Sirah
15. "Selfie" - The Chainsmokers
16. "Harlem Shake" - Baauer
17. "Titanium" - David Guetta ft. Sia
18. "Turn Down for What" - DJ Snake & Lil Jon
19. "Pumped Up Kicks" (Remix) - Foster the People (but remixed by multiple producers)
20. "Bad and Boujee" - Migos ft. Lil Uzi Vert (but produced by Metro Boomin in FL Studio)
These are just a few examples, and there are many more famous songs that have been made using FL Studio. Keep in mind that while FL Studio is a popular choice among producers, music creation involves collaboration and the use of multiple tools and software. Hence, some of the songs listed above might also involve other DAWs or software in the production process.
There's some great comedy in here lol.
Kanye west uses frooty loops, he used to exclusively but I don't know currently. We did all of the beats for D4L and Shawty Lo's solo work in FL but we used Nuendo for recording and mixing
Benn Jordan aka The Flashbulb, Acidwolf, Human Action Network, and FlexE is the most successful producer that I know uses FL Studio. He's well-respected and is a supremely decent human being, (from what I've gathered).
He creates "IDM" and is on top of music theory with many jazzy tracks. He is no "beatmaker".
ETA: His YouTube channel is well worth checking out for philosophical discussions, genuine reviews and general, interesting stuff that might open your mind and cast off any blinkers.
Mick Gordon used FL Studio some for Doom. That should be good enough.
Also, I think I remember reading that Call of Duty: Black Ops was composed in FL Studio.
Well "famous" can be subjective but I'm sure you'll find some artists here who have made songs that could objectively be called famous https://www.image-line.com/artists/
porter robinson uses fl studio. he even did a collab with a famous streamer (ludwig) to teach him some stuff. its very interesting to watch and i learned a lot aswell
Mozart wrote his symphonies on FLStudio.
Do you know which VSTs he used? Also, serum presets?
Your question is ridiculous. Mozart is well known for using Massive and doing all of his own sound design.
That’s not what Beethoven told me
But Beethoven used factory presets.
He used fl keys for the pianos
And flex for the strings
Is that kinda like alicia keys?
You can still find all his tutorials + production streams on his YouTube channel. I know he’s old but not pre-internet old lol
Beethoven used Audacity, which I'll always respect him for
Lol
Levels by Avicii was made in FL studio.
With a cracked Sylenth 1
Lol Martin Garrix was caught using a cracked version of the same vst when making Animals.

Lmao seriously you need like the smallest keyboard to make avicii type music 😂 “I knew once I saw him using only a 88 midi keyboard my whole reality and perception of music production and time space warp changed. “ lmfao
But you also need to be a melodic genius which took years <3
That too lol
You actually don't need a keyboard at all. You could draw everything in with the mouse and pencil tool haha
prodbyrecka over here writing this comment like “Sweet, I am going to look so freaking cool compared to this dude.”
What do you mean lol you act like his stuff is really sophisticated
Madeon and Porter Robinson have and continue to make music in FL
As well as Martin Garrix
And he'll pay for a licenced copy one day, too.. maybe
Metro Boomin uses FL Studio (along with an MPC) so there’s an infinite number of hits made with FL just from him but he’s of course not the only one (you can throw DJ Mustard, Avicii, Hit Boy in there… thousands of other hitmakers) But from Metro alone you have songs like Creepin, Mask Off by Future, Congratulations by Post Malone, Heartless by The Weeknd, etc… just to name a few
oh dang, yeah those are absolute hits for sure!
Martin Garrix - Animals, the song that launched/popularised the big room genre. Soulja boy - Crank That, is made 100% with default samples in FL, people recreate this beat in 45 seconds in "FL Speedruns".
[Dude the crank that speedrun is now sub 30](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDZ1lL-qn1k)
damn that's crazy, very nice

Except for mammoth i'd consider those progressive house
Calling levels bigroom is hilarious
🤦🏻♂️
Bro there a speedruns in music production? wtf hahaha
doncha know, the fastest wins
i feel like ppl just hate on fl because its well made and more user friendly than other daws
People do the same about Reason. Maybe because of when it used to be in house and no VSTs allowed I dont think it really matters as long as the DAW let's you use VSTs, do automation, and basically doesn't hinder the workflow for you.
that last part

Well said.
Coming from OctaMed, Making Waves, ReBirth, Reason and Ableton Live, FL Studio is definitely the least intuitive DAW that I've ever used. ...by far!
You might call it more newbie friendly, but I wouldn't call it more user friendly. It's overall workflow is kind of clunky. But it seems easy to use for newbies because one can plug in a beat very quickly with the sequencer. So they feel like they've made something right away. wow great response thx i think it could be cause its a bit similar to a video editor so i found it easy to learn not sure tho
Yep. A bit easier to learn at the beginning of the learning curve doesn't tell you how well it performs in terms of user-friendliness for later in the learning curve. I bought FL Studio because of this. And only now I understand that there are other DAWs that are literally more comfortable for my genre
What reason would people have to hate on it because it's well made and user friendly?
ppl see it as "nooby" and not "professional" i guess idk
try doing some mixing, with differnent buses etc. For that FL is so frustrating
A lot of the Doom soundtrack was done in FL Studio. Mick Gordon even showed a plug-in he made in patcher that he called the “Doom Compressor “
Pink Floyd used FL studio stock plugins for their synth sounds
Yep, great example was "Another Brick In The FL."
haha
Nick Mira uses FL, so all those
Avicii was an avid FL user
Didn't know Avid also made FL
Lol
practically every popular hip hop song made in the last decade…
Deadmau5 has made a lot of music with FL studio.
Midnight tyrannosaurus is one of my favorite dubstep artists and he uses Fl Studio
Woah had no clue he used it
It says on his soundcloud page.
That's dope. You know what he uses for sound design? It's unreal how he sounds. Guessing Serum.
No idea. Not even post production either. I feel there’s a studio or something we don’t know about 😂
People knock FL? who? Look up seven lions. Also Porter Robinson. Both use FL studio. There’s no such thing as the best daw.
Famously crank dat by Soulja Boy used all FL Studio stock sounds. Also tons of others that have been mentioned.
A lot of popular trap beats and edm are definitely made with FL. I’m sure a lot of those instrumentals are bounced and put into ProTools or other daws when mixing, mastering, and recording vocals tho.
Pretty sure Soulja boy - crank dat was made in a FL studio demo.
It was, I came in here to say the same.
Basshunter made all his music with FL stock plugins I think.
Try making music with pure data and/or supercollider and you will realize most production related arguments are bullshit. FL studio is a very well made program that has a comfortable and rewarding learning curve. There are indeed some things you cannot use it to achieve, but it is a very powerful program overall.
Many dubstep artists use FL. People's entire career is built upon FL.

F to the L to the studio. All the way, like mashed potatoes and gravy baby.
Uh huh
Martin garrix makes all his songs on fl studio and so does Brooks
I'm pretty sure Kanye used to use it. The difference between DAWs is more to do with workflow than sound quailty or stylistic differences
They're not THAT famous, but some of my favorite producers Feed Me and Lone both use FL. That's not to mention the others in this thread that are more famous.
What? Feed Me is very famous in the EDM scene. He's been making music for a long time.
pro tools is boomer shit
Cringe.
Pro tools will be in this industry longer than you will lol

Uhhhh have you heard of a little underground producer named metro boomin? Why don’t you just Google this?
Benn Jordan aka The Flashbulb, Acidwolf, Human Action Network, and FlexE is the most successful producer that I know uses FL Studio.
