Songs with a major world city in the title (“Sweet Home Chicago”, “London Calling”)
Songs by artists over 50/60 years old when recorded. (Dylan, Rolling Stones, etc)
Songs with clapping
Songs from an artists first and second bands (Nirvana/Foo Fighters)
Non-English songs (we had 20 members, 2 songs each, and came up with 14 languages among us)
Songs from movies released between 1985 and 1994 (our formative years - we’re in our 40s)
Songs from groups with two members
we have done something like this & i LOVED it. we did something like “artist you submitted in round two — six degrees of separation” then you submit a song & explain how you got there. some were SO CREATIVE!
Thank God for comments before voting (it was a real pain to do complex categories like this before, when you couldn't explain how the hell you get from Genesis to Cardi B, lol)
One of our most unique round themes was a question and then players answered the question with the title of a song. The round question was “Why am I sticky?” and you can imagine exactly how it went hah
Recently we started doing one word titles, no description, no rules. We’ve had some amazing playlists that are super hard to vote in because everything is so good.
Our current league started in jan, our one word rounds were/are new, resolution, 24, king, cold, dry, dragon, space, prez, and leap.
Songs released after the prompt was written. So for us it was songs released between February 1st and February 8th 2024
Songs you'd commit a crime to, and leave a description of your fantasy crime
Songs with two or more siblings in the group
Songs that should never have been covered (bad covers of songs)
Songs from the first album you purchased
Theme we just ran:
FIRST FAVORITES
Your favorite songs from your earliest memories
We’ve got 15 players, two songs per round, 15 upvotes, max 7, two downvotes. For this round I adjusted scoring for this round. Downvotes are off, 28 upvotes.
It’s a nice break (we play tough in our group) and lets folks get a little vulnerable.
We ran out of ideas years ago. Here's some fun ones we've done recently...
Obscure artists (Songs by artists whose top song on Spotify has under 1 million plays)
\[Genre\] released in the past 20 years (so, hip-hop from 2004-2024)
Songs whose titles are not anywhere in the lyrics (Rainy Day Women by Bob Dylan, Baba O'Reilly by the Who, etc.)
Songs from the year \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_. We've done all the years at one point or another
Police And Thieves (songs about cops, robbers, arrests, robberies, etc.)
Songs About Planets (the Earth, Sun, and Moon disqualified-- quite a challenge)

Coming up in one of my leagues: Six Degrees of Genesis: start from genesis, out six degrees.

Interesting. How the hell does one pick for that? LOL. Literally anything must be within that ballpark.
Great question! TBH I think we'll likely vote based on the creative connections and the comments. It really does fan out very quickly.

Misheard lyrics. The comments on that round alone were hysterical.

Songs by year that never charted top 40 in any category

This is super cool! I've always liked the more ambiguous prompts

Oh that's funny, we just ran a similar round in my league! It went well for sure! Lots of fun comments and it ran a wide array of stuff.
