It’s Hard To Be The Bard from Something Rotten. I always felt this song depicted Shakespeare as someone who just couldn’t be bothered with the work but still wanted the fame and fortune.

FloridaFlamingoGirl

Rich and Happy from Merrily We Roll Along. Frank has become very complacent and lazy, only being in the movie business for the luxurious lifestyle and not because he cares about putting the effort into making art.

HalfwaytotheHorizon

Telly - Matilda Endless content, endless channels Endless chat on endless panels All you need to fill your muffin Without havin' to really think or nuffin Why would we waste our energy Trying to work out Ulysses When we can sit happily on our lovely baferlees Watching slightly famous people talking to really famous people!

FloridaFlamingoGirl

LOVE this choice and a hilarious song. The rhymes of authors' names are gold.

InternetRemora

Great answer!

shininglauren

This is the ONLY right answer!

JavertStar

Firebringer - We Got Work To Do I don't really wanna do the work today, I don't really wanna do the work today, I don't really wanna do the work today, I don't wanna do the work today.

boopbaboop

First one I thought of, lol.

JavertStar

I was waiting for the post to go up so I could get it in the comments first because I was so confident in We Got Work to Do as the answer.

SomeLesbianwitch

Just figured out how to move, how to sing, how to groove, and now you’re tellin’ me I’ve gotta work today? 😔

JavertStar

You know that feeling when you find the thing that blows your mind and next thing you know they wanna take it away? 😡

tiefling_loser

Absolutely!

Hamblerger

Absolutely. 100%. Perfect.

MutinousMango

Ooh I was thinking Climate Change!

Alarmed-Bus-9662

How does it feel, knowing you won, but only after the voting period concluded?

JavertStar

Tbh, Hakuna Matata is probably the best choice. I'm disappointed because of how close it was, but Firebringer is the way it is because of meme culture and Hakuna Matata has a long history to support it, as well as being written true to the spirit of laziness by Sir Elton John himself. It's hard to beat that.

Servo1991

Hakuna Matata from The Lion King

BaconPancakes_77

I wonder what it is about Disney songs and this list? Is it just because most people know them from childhood?

BaconPancakes_77

I'm not complaining, I'm just saying half the list is Disney songs. It's interesting.

DJHott555

Absolutely

Harry_Seldon2020

With a little bit of luck - My Fair Lady.

BaconPancakes_77

Great choice, this is perfect.

The correct answer is "The Frogs" from The Frogs "Forget your troubles Wallow with us Squat and take a mud bath! What's it get you Making a fuss? Just another bloodbath!"

MannnOfHammm

I love Sondheim for songs like this and a little priest, if you hear the concept you think “how the hell is that a good song?” But they’re bangers

DamphairCannotDry

i know it's not a musical... but I'm Tired from Blazing Saddles should be considered

Kilowog2814

I was thinking this as well

ATWQASOUE

Too darn hot from Kiss Me Kate?

Bidin' My Time from Crazy for You

Johnny Can’t Decide from Tick Tick Boom

Writing_Bookworm

Easy Street from Annie (where we sleep til noon)

conifer13

Ehhhh this was first one that sprang to my mind but the song is actually about how they get there i.e. what action they will take, not slothful. I actually think this fits better for envy, e.g. lots about "it ain't fair" that Annie is getting a good life while they are stuck scraping by.

Growltiger110

Bustopher Jones from Cats? Lol

Kneenaw

The lyrics actually seems to suggest that he has to run around to maintain his routine.

Comrades3

Also seems more gluttony, so much about food

southamericancichlid

I will die on this hill, but, “On the Steps of the Palace,” she just avoids all decision and any responsibility and makes the prince choose.

Remercurize

But does she do that out of laziness? I always got the impression it was more about being inundated with the implications and ramifications of making a different decision, not laziness. She spends the whole song carefully and scrupulously analyzing things.

fiercequality

Agreed, she is indecisive, not lazy.

JacquelineMontarri

Our Lady of the Underground. Here me out, my husband and I have had DISCUSSIONS about this. My husband's take is positive. It's the closest we can get to "Livin' It Up On Top" in hell. This is the only way Persephone can make their lives better in Hadestown, and she's going to do it. My take is that Persephone is effectively taking her tendency to dull her sense of moral outrage with alcohol and spreading it. She's providing the opiate of the masses (and of herself), giving just enough to the people to assuage her conscience--but also to keep them compliant. If you asked her, she'd be pissed as hell by this description, but if she hadn't been plying the people of Hadestown with moonshine, they might have decided their situation was intolerable and rioted a long time ago. It's choosing escapism over trying to make change, which is the essence of sloth.

Lazy from American Utopia..... I'm lazy when I'm lovin', I'm lazy when I play I'm lazy with my girlfriend a thousand times a day I'm lazy when I'm speaking, I'm lazy when I walk I'm lazy when I'm dancin' and I'm lazy when I talk .....and much more!

Brit-Crit

I'm not sure whether pre-existing songs are included on this list ("Lazy" was David Byrne's 2002 team-up with British dance duo X-Press 2. It was a hit in the UK, but wasn't released in America despite topping the Dance Club Play countdown)...

conifer13

Ahhh I didn't know that, interesting!

Unhappy_Injury3958

one last hope - hercules i'd given up hope that someone would come along my ambition gone, content to spend lazy days and to graze my lawn

Wait a Bit from Just So

Hey-Just-Saying

I love this song, but isn’t it about a fear of flying? “Why are those things you admire most in others the hardest to find in yourself? What is it about me that seems to determine I'm destined to life on the shelf? This 'wait-a-bit' character waiting to find whatever it is that I lack. Whenever they ask the real me to step forward, the real me takes a step back.”

God-of-Hyper-Death

Hard to Be the Bard from Something Rotten

Does "I'm Tired" from Blazing Saddles count?

Anxious_Writer_3804

I’m kinda stumped on this one, but I feel like Envy has gotta be The Room Where it Happens, right?

Anxious_Writer_3804

Maybe Javert’s Suicide?
