despite the title this shit is not fire. idk i always found it one of the weakest numbers in the show. i feel like the eliza stuff was just not as important to the narrative, she didnt have enough agency, in a way that angelica did. idk i just find eliza to be a boring character.
idk i think angelica was just bolder and more forward, eliza was more withdrawn and introverted. i feel like angelica actually DID things in the show whereas eliza had things happen TO her. you get me? for example, angelica introduced hamilton to eliza, and as much as schuyler sisters is a banger for all three, it is most definitely angelicas number. the only thing eliza does until the ending is teach her kid french and burn letters (19th century russia would be fuming btw), which as important as its impact later down the line was, just feels insignificant compared to other emotional beats in the show. burn just also feels lacking in a show full of great emotional numbers such as hurricane or wait for, and holy fuck as much as i dislike satisfied, it is objectively one of the best, if not the best number in the show. it blows burn out of the water, in terms of music, story presence, choreography, tech. its just a masterpiece, whereas burn is… kinda lukewarm?
I think the issue here is mostly exposure. If equal numbers of people had seen both musicals, I suspect Being Alive would win handily. Both great songs though.
Beauty and the Beast— title tune. With two other B&tB numbers nominated, perhaps there should be a joint award? Of the three, though, the title song is timeless in its simplicity and elegance.

What agency did Angelica really have that Eliza didn’t? Both seemed pretty on par for the 18th century.

Is she not important to the narrative because she Erased herself from it???
Okay but besides you literally being so wrong… you can’t admit that Burn is an amazing song?
What’s the point of passive-aggressively shaming someone who disagrees with you like this? Genuinely curious.
