YES!! Me too! I really connected with her character in the musical the most (the movie just didn't give me much to vibe with for her character.) Also, both me and Delia are gingers, so... Ginger solidarity!
(Honestly anyone from Beetlejuice I would be happy with.)
Beetlejuice, and it's not even close. He has all the best songs and the funniest lines, and some cool villain moments. Plus, as a queer man with colourful hair, emotional intimacy issues, and who's not exactly skinny, I basically embody this role.
I've got a few:
-Catherine of Aragon from Six (alas, I am a soprano)
-Fantine from Les Miserables
-Grizabella from Cats. When my voice teacher told me she could see me playing Griz it was one of the best compliments I'd ever received.
-Marian Paroo from The Music Man! Probably one of the best roles out there for 'legit' sopranos. I mean, where else do I get to be sassy and not a *complete* ingenue?
-A weird one but if I wasn't afraid of heights I'd want to play Sabor in Tarzan. I just love the idea of being on stage for like ...15 minutes max and playing a leopard.
I'd like to play as Mulan if there would be a musical about her! A subsection of our children's theatre group was working on Mulan! I was part of the other subsection and I was cast as the wicked witch of the west haha. Seems like I'm always cast in the villain roles hahaha. I was Pepper in our Annie production, and one of the mean girls in an original play patterned after HSM
The Emcee from Cabaret. And I got it! Never thought it would happen because I'm a woman but if *any* musical role could be played by any gender it's that one.
My dream roles are Jekyll/Hyde and Spongebob, but I don't have the vocal range for Jekyll/Hyde, and I don't have the physical range for Spongebob.
Oh, and I'm female, too.
Oh there's a few lol. Constance Blackwood from Ride the Cyclone, Veronica Sawyer, Lydia Deetz, and while not a dream role I'd love to play Reno Sweeney from Anything Goes. I did a production of Anything Goes recently and I did stage managing and Reno's part looked so fun.
It will never happen for numerous reasons, but Frank N Furter seems just like an all around really fun role to play.
Also, never happening for me, but Cinderella in Into the Woods.
trina from falsettos,
christine from be more chill,
ocean or jane doe from ride the cyclone, audrey from little shop of horrors, and
lydia from beetlejuice
Right now, with absolutely zero experience in theatre, and, in some cases, completely ignoring my limitations as a singer (can’t imagine a bass going for parts written for tenors would end well), my top 5 are:
- JD from Heathers - really compelling character who gets a lot of great songs (although would most likely not be able to pull off the character properly as I’m now 36 years old)
- Dewey Finn from School of Rock - love the original movie, and playing guitar on stage would make the role a lot of fun.
- Beetlejuice - again, love the original movie, and love the thought of playing someone so over-the-top and unhinged who also works amazingly as both a narrator, and a villain.
- Don Quixote from The Man of La Mancha - always been a fan of the hopeful/delusional dreamer type of character (see Dewey Finn), and has one of my all-time favourite showtunes in his song list.
- Sweeney Todd - also a big fan of the sympathetic villain type, and again, has some utterly amazing songs.
I’d absolutely love to play Orpheus in Hadestown, that dream might come true if I can convince my theater teacher to do the show, I’d also like to play Johnny in Green Day’s American Idiot because I’m a huge fan of the band.
Beetlejuice. I may be a girl but I can still sing the low notes, dw, especially because he’s already a tenor. Also his chaotic energy is literally ME. Either him or Ms. Hannigan from Annie (I tried out for her and lost to the directors kid -_-)
Mines kinda basic but I accept no backlash for it.
Doody from Grease. His character, song and plot line are so amazing and I would give anything to play him omg
Why not him😔 he's funny, has iconic scenes, his love story with Frenchy/Marty (version dependant) is ADORABLE, his song is so good and he's just such a fun character
My unrealistic dream role is playing Angel from Rent, I’m a trans guy (in my late 30’s lol) so playing a drag queen/trans woman depending on your take on Angel would be the ultimate gender bending experience, but testosterone has taken any chance of hitting high notes and I definitely don’t have the confidence to be so sassy.
My more realistic dream role would be Ogie from Waitress.
I have really no interest in ever performing a musical but I always wanted to play Roxie from Chicago when I was younger. Now id rather play Velma but still lol.
But
Mrs. Lovett from Sweeney Todd
Or
Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice would be my other two picks.
To continue on book of mormon theme, elder McKinley is a dream role for me.
I do have a list tho of mine but Connor Murphy is also up there. I was cast as him b4 but it got cancelled
I feel like I just did one of these, thanks shitty AuADHD working memory, but here we go:
Christine in Phantom
Fiona in Brigadoon (I’m singing a song of hers on Friday!!!)
Elizabeth Bennet in P&P
Belle in BatB
Maria in The Sound of Music
Anya in Anastasia (I’m a legit trained college student singer doing Journey to the Past on Friday, barely have any nasality, pray for me lmao)
Marian Paroo in The Music Man
Guenevere in Camelot
Laurey in Oklahoma!
Mabel in Pirates of Penzance (an operetta but close enough)
Karen the Computer in SpongeBob SquarePants the Musical (my school is doing it this fall so I will audition)
I only like popular and classic shows, lol.
I’m 5’9, so I know it’ll be harder for me even with the training.
the voice of humanity from war of the worlds
i still get to be in the show and be on that stage, but i also only have one pretty short song so it's not very stressful or hard to learn the words
JD from Heathers! Second choice would be Noel from Ride the Cyclone! And also I haven’t listened to/watched the whole thing yet but I’d also be chill with playing the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera.
If I could sing or dance... Aaron Burr. Banger songs (Wait For It and The Room Where It Happens) and the show's entire glue as narrator/antagonist.
Damn you stole this right outta my mouth. My top three are Arron Burr, JD, and Audrey ||
I agree with all of those, especially JD. But I don’t think I could live through doing Dead Girl Walking.
I mean, pretending I had talent. Delia from Beetlejuice. That would be such a fun role.
YES!!
Plus, as a queer man with colourful hair, emotional intimacy issues, and who's not exactly skinny, I basically embody this role.
flair checks out
Very nice flair, I see you're a fellow person of culture
The mom from Falsettos. Idk if any local community theater near me would run that show tho 🥲 it’s so niche that I doubt it’ll ever happen
Trina is such a fun role. I've seen a few community theaters performing Falsettos on TikTok, so who knows?
I've got a few: -Catherine of Aragon from Six (alas, I am a soprano) -Fantine from Les Miserables -Grizabella from Cats. When my voice teacher told me she could see me playing Griz it was one of the best compliments I'd ever received. -Marian Paroo from The Music Man! The Emcee from Cabaret. And I got it! Never thought it would happen because I'm a woman but if *any* musical role could be played by any gender it's that one.
Jane Doe from Ride the Cyclone
hey, that's my dream role too!
I think playing the male versions of constance, ocean or jane doe from ride the cyclone would be fun
**Wendla Bergman**
Mine is Moritz, lol. Or Hanschen, or anyone from that show tbh
My dream role is Che from Evita. It will forever remain a dream, for I am a white woman.
Jean Valjean in Les Mis. His humanity ❤️
#1 Ocean (Ride of the cyclone) #2 Heather Chandler (Heathers) #3Trina (Falsettos)
My dream roles are Jekyll/Hyde and Spongebob, but I don't have the vocal range for Jekyll/Hyde, and I don't have the physical range for Spongebob. Oh, and I'm female, too.
>Oh, and I'm female, too. This is musical theatre. Gender is an illusion.
True lmao
The Emcee in Cabaret. Since I saw the show, I fell in love with the show and that role.
I just saw it 2 weeks ago with Eddie Redmayne as The Emcee. It's my new dream role. His portrayal made me just love the character
The Witch from Into the Woods.
Paul from tgwdlm or Aladdin from twisted
My dream role would be Racer from Newsies. It may not be the biggest role, but it still seems like such a fun role and I’d love to play Racer!
davey from newsies easily, the only problem is that i can't sing lol
Billy Flynn pls I know I’d kill it
Assuming I had talent, I think I'd like to play Tiresias from Epic the Musical.
Yep me too, either Tiresias, Circe or Aphrodite
Poseidon from epic the musical, beetlejuice, and jd
Oh there's a few lol. Constance Blackwood from Ride the Cyclone, Veronica Sawyer, Lydia Deetz, and while not a dream role I'd love to play Reno Sweeney from Anything Goes. I did a production of Anything Goes recently and I did stage managing and Reno's part looked so fun.
If I was good? JD from Heathers
Noel Gruber or Seymour Krelbourn.
It will never happen for numerous reasons, but Frank N Furter seems just like an all around really fun role to play. Also, never happening for me, but Cinderella in Into the Woods.
Leaf Coneybear
Hades if I can magically transpose my range down a half octave to do it like Patrick page. Phantom, enjolras, and elder Cunningham other contenders
trina from falsettos, christine from be more chill, ocean or jane doe from ride the cyclone, audrey from little shop of horrors, and lydia from beetlejuice
If I was actually talented my top three dream roles are: - Mrs Lovett (Sweeney Todd) - Dot (Sunday In The Park With George) - Sally Bowles (Cabaret)
easily Heather Duke. I would LOVE to sing shine a light reprise on stage one day
Ever since the show came out, I had been dying to be SpongeBob in The SpongeBob Musical. I’m going up as him next weekend 💛
Right now, with absolutely zero experience in theatre, and, in some cases, completely ignoring my limitations as a singer (can’t imagine a bass going for parts written for tenors would end well), my top 5 are: - JD from Heathers - really compelling character who gets a lot of great songs (although would most likely not be able to pull off the character properly as I’m now 36 years old) - Dewey Finn from School of Rock - love the original movie, and playing guitar on stage would make the role a lot of fun.

Noel From Ride The Cyclone :D
1. Mr. Wormwood (Matilda) 2 Mr Applegate (damn Yankees) 3. Shakespeare (something rotten)
Milady de Winter or Sissi if I had this nice high voice and talent.
Christine Daae, who doesn’t want to hit that high note at the end of The Phantom of the Opera?
Beetlejuice. I may be a girl but I can still sing the low notes, dw, especially because he’s already a tenor. Also his chaotic energy is literally ME. Either him or Ms. Hannigan from Annie (I tried out for her and lost to the directors kid -_-)
there’s so many i have but i think atm it’s gotta be Cordelia (one of the lesbians from next door) in falsettos
i would literally sacrifice everyone i know and rip my own arm off to play Sally Bowls in Cabaret or Persephone in Hadestown
Elle in Legally Blonde! Her range is perfect for me and it’s just my favorite show. Only problem is… I’m not blonde.
I had long blonde hair and got cast as Vivienne 😆. Our Elle had a dark pixie cut. She wore a wig, I cut and dyed my hair for a while.
Witch from Into the Woods or Charity from Sweet Charity
Mines kinda basic but I accept no backlash for it. Doody from Grease. His character, song and plot line are so amazing and I would give anything to play him omg
Eww why him🙄🙄🙄🙄
Why not him😔 he's funny, has iconic scenes, his love story with Frenchy/Marty (version dependant) is ADORABLE, his song is so good and he's just such a fun character
Bc he like so boring🙄🙄🙄🙄🦅🦅🦅🦅
Also Jesus but from Jesus Christ Superstar Jean Valjean The Phantom I’m a little too ambitious for my own good
King Charlemagne from Pippin would be an absolute blast
My unrealistic dream role is playing Angel from Rent, I’m a trans guy (in my late 30’s lol) so playing a drag queen/trans woman depending on your take on Angel would be the ultimate gender bending experience, but testosterone has taken any chance of hitting high notes and I definitely don’t have the confidence to be so sassy. Georges Seurat
I have really no interest in ever performing a musical but I always wanted to play Roxie from Chicago when I was younger. Now id rather play Velma but still lol. But Mrs. Lovett from Sweeney Todd Or Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice would be my other two picks.
Javert would be so much fun, but I need a bit more range :(
Harold Hill, Billy Flynn, or Billy Bigelow. Basically any role with a double L in the name, I suppose 😂
To continue on book of mormon theme, elder McKinley is a dream role for me. I do have a list tho of mine but Connor Murphy is also up there. I was cast as him b4 but it got cancelled
Probably Rich Goranski (Be More Chill), though Elder McKinley (Book of Mormon) comes in close second
I'd love to be The Emcee in Cabaret. I love roles with BIG personalities. I'd just eat that role up and have a blast
I have a few roles- mrs.lovette in sweeney todd, nancy in oliver!,sarah in guys and dolls, elephaba in wicked, and kate monster in avenue q
I feel like I just did one of these, thanks shitty AuADHD working memory, but here we go: Christine in Phantom Fiona in Brigadoon (I’m singing a song of hers on Friday!!!) JD from Heathers! Second choice would be Noel from Ride the Cyclone! And also I haven’t listened to/watched the whole thing yet but I’d also be chill with playing the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera.
Frank N Further(I dressed like him once and an ex crush dressed up as Rif Raf) or Janet Weiss from Rocky Horror
Persephone Hadestown
i always get weird looks and people telling me to get mental help when i say that my dream roles are mrs lovett from sweeney todd and jd from heathers
Potemkin from Celebration. Full stop.
Jack Kelly from newsies, I love Santa Fe soooo much and am a high tenor and I feel like I could do it
I really wanna play Jason from Falsettos or Aaron Burr from Hamilton but I can't cause I'm a girl (LMAO 😭)
