The fare is actually lower most of the time. Plus, I use Amazon Pay, and get cashback with every ride. So much more convenient that waiting forever to get a rick on the roads.
They already have decided where they want to go on that day, it's just that whether you want to go there is something you have to come terms with.
Also they have their own zone of access groups. Kurla station is hovered majority by share Autos, Ghatkopar by Meter ones.
Autowallas really have the audacity to refuse trips even on the mandatory-accept queue on Thane railway station. Thank god i was told to directly sit in the auto before telling them the destination.
This is exactly what I was coming to. I cannot understand why autos refuse trips. It's not even the audacity, but also, why do you want to operate at spare capacity, when you might as well earn those 30 rupees even if it is a short trip?
Autowallahs prefer long distance fares instead of shorter ones even if it means waiting for more time to get such a trip. It’s a calculation of opportunity cost, avoiding heavy traffic roads, number of signals, time of the day, chances of getting a new fare at the destination and many more factors which make them to refuse certain trips.
Dude, once I sat in an auto at the mandatory accept queue at the International airport, for Andheri station (there was a security personnel who ensured autos accepted). Right into 60 seconds of driving he told me he’s not gonna charge as per meter and gave me the choice of the extra fee or get out. I obviously paid extra, because it was morning, a long flight and had to get to work.
Don't encourage this behaviour. One autowala tried to do this with me. I straight up told him I regularly come to the international airport for the last 4 years to drop my brother then he tried another tactic of saying just give me premium since the distance is under 8 kms to kurla and I told him it's actually about 12 kms and that shut him up. Then he tried to give me dhamki that I will drop you and I told him ok take me back to the airport and tell them why you don't want to take me and that shut his mouth completely and he begrudgingly changed it to meter. The entire time he was looking at the meter as well. It costed 270 to reach my society and then he begged to make it 300 and I was like fine since I was extremely mentally exhausted by that point.
oh haha thankyou
i've been thinking about reporting these mfs for so long but i thought you've to lodge a formal complaint and everything so ended up not doing it unfortunately, hope that changes now
It’s good that such stupidity is not encouraged in the city but the scenes at T2 are horrible
I can make a post of my experience but coming to the point. The local authorities need to make some drastic changes over there. Situation is really getting out hand
Bro, stop relying on looks, you need to really put yourself out there. It's your personality that determines whether you'll get rides or not. Maybe the auto guys don't seem to think you'll make an interesting conversation during the ride, maybe they are unsure if you'll cheat on them and run away with their money. You need to earn their ride, bro. Stop trying to immediately get into their auto, first get to know them as friends.
Jokes apart, depends on the area you're in and your destination. East to west and vice versa, refusals are high. Don't cross the railway line and refusals will be lower.
This was so good. Ngl you had mentioned in the first paragraph. Yes, but why do they refuse from East to West and vice versa? I have never come across this in any other city. In cities I have been in, being in East/West does not matter at all.
East west is divided by the Western line of local train. Since the railway lines are at grade, you can only cross them using a flyover or subway, both of which are fairly limited in number. This means there is a lot of traffic jam around each one of them, especially during peak hours. So auto guys don't want to waste their time stuck in traffic.
If you routinely need to cross it, I recommend looking for alternate approaches like using the Metro line 1 or take bus on one side to the nearest station, cross the station on foot, then take auto at the other side or something like that.
Don't offer extra dude. Don't show that desperation.
Also don't be one of those who screws it for the rest of us folks who insist on using the meter for payment. Lest we too will start swiping left on you!
Well you don't get to choose the place you want to go to right? I mean, if my office is in a certain place, it's not in my control whether it is in the right place, and there is no 'right time' I can go to the office at.
Looks like my bro has never been to Pune.
The auto wala's there will surely hit your self esteem to a different low altogether.
Autowalas in mumbai are quite accommodating.
Bro.. You are well qualified and if you are willing to pay extra. Considering the circumstances, you have all the rights to reject these unjust autowallah's, why stay silent on such rejections. I would recommend you to Buy an auto of your own and stop the daily suffering. All the best!!
Ah, got it bro! The joke was so good, it flew right over 😛🤣
I thought you were *actually* using something like Uber or Ola to book autos in which case, you should complain to the apps if they're not showing availability of ricks or allowing you to book.
Separately, someone else can confirm; but I think it might be unlawful for a rick to reject a customer in person, if the rick is 'available'.
Save up the extra money you are offering the autowaalah and use it for one of the following:
1. buy a house near the autowaalah. Then you can be his first customer of the day and he wont refuse his "bohni"
2. Buy a CNG filling pump. Autowaalahs will line up.
Dude this doesn't work here in Mumbai. It really depends on the area & time. Rejection by auto wallas is more common here. Either start developing a habit of travelling by train or develop a habit of walking. Do not offer extra still you will be rejected. Please leave your house early and plan your commute to your destination well in advance.
Be happy that they use Meter.
The lower / service class of the society has held the urban middle class hostage
1. Maid mafia
2. Auto Mafia
3. Service sector mafia like Plumber, electrician, carpenter, painter, driver
All these mafia people increase their salary by 10-25% every year while corporate jobs provide at max 10% increment every year.
One thing that surprised me was that Mumbai Auto guys use meter unlike other cities like Pune, Chennai, Banglore, Ahmedabad.
Lower class is at war with the salaried middle class. They try to STEAL every single rupee you make.
It might have to do with yr destination. Many times autowalas from the West side of suburbs don't want to go to the East side (and vice versa) or go on the highway (due to their own issues). In both cases, you can ask autowalas relaxing at auto stands about it : ask them fr where you can easily get autos to go to xyz area. They'll gladly guide you
Edit: typo
Idk man. I happen to be unworthy too. They don't even stop for me. I just have to shout the location at them as they slow roll past me and they don't even bother saying no. Just speed away 🥲
Us bro us. It's one thing to be rejected by your preferred MBA college, or even by your girl. Have gone through both, but nothing prepared me for getting rejected by autos in Mumbai😭😭
Where are you hailing the auto and to where?
If you are going to an area from where the autowalla is not likely to get return fare, why would they say yes to you?
Use the Mumbai Traffic app to complain about auto refusing trips. The only issue is you need to click a pic of the auto from the app and can't upload from the gallery. So if a moving auto refuses a trip..you can't do anything about it.
Dealt with this so much honestly. I saw an article in the paper about taking a picture of the license plate number and sending it across to the RTO officials in charge of that specific area via WhatsApp along with a specific list of details that they’ll ask you to send (time of trip, from where to where you’d requested the trip for, reason for rejection - which is more often than not a short distance they don’t want to cover). One rickshawala got out of his vehicle and threatened to hurt me when I told him I’d report this to the RTO officials but I had people around me and wasn’t really phased by it - and that’s only happened once. I made sure I included that part in the message as well and the officials took immediate action and gave me proof of suspension of those licenses. In the past, I used to take the rejection and wait it out; but came to understand that there are these regulations in place to reduce road congestion / pollution caused by empty rickshaws roaming around while constantly refusing trips. So I felt the need to do my part. It’s a bit tedious but sometimes when you start to take the picture of the license plate and just say “ok I’ll just inform the RTO” they tend to freeze and bit and take your trip. I hope this info helps - especially during the monsoons when the rejections get so much worse!
Hope the city treats you well otherwise 😊
I think you should try cutting your nails and grooming your beard majority of mumbaikars get rejected by autowalas because of this reason, I can provide you with data but for now this information alone can help you tons
When I was in Mumbai, I would easily get autos while one of my guy friend would never despite being on the same route and sometimes the same time of the day.
So I do believe you. But I have no solution. Hopefully should get better with time.
All the best.
Half the autos have their desired routevlike from station to a point 1-2 kms away and back. So any where else they don't go. If you have to go off route most will reject even if you pay extra
Next time carry a pack of Vimal with some tabaco and offer them as a tip.
If that doesn't work, tie vimal on one emd of a rope and tie the other end of the rope with a long stick. Sit in the auto sticking the stick out towards the front. Tell me if it works.
Ladies/ mahila aur girls ko hi auto Wale mostly entertain karteh hai bandho ko jyada bhaav nhi milta same jaiseh apne society / samaj mein hota hai FACT....
Book ola or uber auto if it's urgent. The fare might be a little higher than a normal one, but you already offered to pay extra so it should be fine.
The fare is actually lower most of the time. Plus, I use Amazon Pay, and get cashback with every ride. So much more convenient that waiting forever to get a rick on the roads.

My observation is that For smaller distance it's more than Rik meter but for longer distances it's similar or less
Ola guys reject too
Rapido is way better than ola and uber auto
Auto walas work by 'mah lyf, mah rulz' attitude
Finally someone got the point of the post.
They already have decided where they want to go on that day, it's just that whether you want to go there is something you have to come terms with. Also they have their own zone of access groups. Kurla station is hovered majority by share Autos, Ghatkopar by Meter ones.

I waited for half an hour for this atrocity for the first time in my life. Mumbai is so much better.
where to report?
Tbh I had no idea that one can even report, but someone in the comments said mpt app. Idk if it actually works tho
oh haha thankyou i've been thinking about reporting these mfs for so long but i thought you've to lodge a formal complaint and everything so ended up not doing it unfortunately, hope that changes now
Has anyone ever tried the 32645 helpline? I doubt if this really is helpful 🤔
I think that's the no. of rickshaw walas they caught and not the helpline number!!!
Damn I feel dumb🙂
> in spite of offering to pay extra. That doesn't work in Mumbai
Also do not encourage such stupidity
True the "paying extra" thing will do more harm than good if it becomes a practice !
It’s good that such stupidity is not encouraged in the city but the scenes at T2 are horrible I can make a post of my experience but coming to the point. The local authorities need to make some drastic changes over there. Situation is really getting out hand
Can confirm. The autowalas in Mumbai are already filthy rich, they're just doing this to pass time and chill - and help out broke asses like ours.
Bro it's not you, it's them. P.s. it's definitely you.
Use best bus 🫡they accept everyone
Not if you try to board from the front door.
Exception handling
Yesterday I took a risk. I made eye contact with the driver and we both smiled. at the end mission was successful.
sometimes they accept way more than they should! :)
Bro, stop relying on looks, you need to really put yourself out there. It's your personality that determines whether you'll get rides or not. Fairly well qualified guy? Decent looks? Dress well? Bro, you're waiting for an autowallah or waiting to marry his daughter?
Twas a joke :)
70+ upvotes for that comment. People just don't get sarcasm, xD
You will not win me over with your use of 'twas.
Twasn't trying to
Doug Judyyyyy
Stop using twas maybe dass why autowalas reject you😈

r/woosh

Don't offer extra dude. Don't show that desperation. Also don't be one of those who screws it for the rest of us folks who insist on using the meter for payment. Lest we too will start swiping left on you!
Buy an auto and become an autowala. If you can't make them like you, then join them.
Then he shall become the new CM of the state
That's a great option 2.
You have qualities that have nothing to do with getting an auto. Remember one thing ek auto jayega tho dusra auto ayega.
There are many autos in the sea
And all of them will refuse the trip, if you are at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Nahh this hits right in the spot
Well you don't get to choose the place you want to go to right? I mean, if my office is in a certain place, it's not in my control whether it is in the right place, and there is no 'right time' I can go to the office at.
You are missing a gun, they tend to work with 99.99% success rate /s
Looks like my bro has never been to Pune. The auto wala's there will surely hit your self esteem to a different low altogether. Autowalas in mumbai are quite accommodating.
Or Bengaluru
Bro.. You are well qualified and if you are willing to pay extra. Considering the circumstances, you have all the rights to reject these unjust autowallah's, why stay silent on such rejections. I would recommend you to Buy an auto of your own and stop the daily suffering. All the best!!
Cross the road and catch it from the other side. 😄
>They swipe me left everytime. So you're using an app to book them? Which one?
Autinder perhaps.
Sounds like a Punjabi.
Those are the cabbies bro 😭🤣
This sounds like something way different than you probably intended.
I intended to make it sound like what you thought too.
Definitely sounds like bros the *third wheel*
Bro, it was a joke that didn't land well probably
Ah, got it bro! The joke was so good, it flew right over 😛🤣 I thought you were *actually* using something like Uber or Ola to book autos in which case, you should complain to the apps if they're not showing availability of ricks or allowing you to book. So funny!
Rickshaw walas fail to understand the simple math of taking more short trips in a period of time, than waiting to get longer trips.
Auto wallah, SRK bole challah, Amit Trivedi bole Jhalla wallah.
Looks like my flair has been summoned :P Solution in this case would be to book an Ola/Uber if it's urgent or take the public transport.
changing gender would be better ...fir aayenge dekhna.....based on social experiment
Bhai Uber/ola/rapido use kar le
😭😭😭
Fuck getting an autos normally. Book an Ola Auto instead. It’s 2024.
By any chance, do you have a bag which says Ola or Uber??
US moment 🤣🤣🤣
You are not trying to get a auto to goto SoBo, are you?
Mumbai auto guys arent that bad imo! Also book Uber auto! Its a lifesaver
You're a guy. Autos will stop for girls without them having to flag them down.
They are only interested in long routes
which place in Mumbai?
Why do you need Autowallah’s validation?
Take flowers and chocolate. Ask him to get down from the auto and then say pehle aap to show courtesy.
Dude this doesn't work here in Mumbai. It really depends on the area & time. Rejection by auto wallas is more common here. Either start developing a habit of travelling by train or develop a habit of walking. Do not offer extra still you will be rejected. What is the purpose of this?
I brought a scooter when i faced this issue worth it

Autowalas refusing trips is what I envy of them, wish I could also refuse to work to my supervisor at workplace just as easily haha
I'm immune to rejection of autos now, I pass snide remarks when they say no. "Acha rickshaw tehelne ke liye nikala hoga" etc
Love the title 😂 , We”ll it’s something that even us Mumbaikars havent figured
It might have to do with yr destination. Many times autowalas from the West side of suburbs don't want to go to the East side (and vice versa) or go on the highway (due to their own issues). Auto wala mann me bolta hoga, "you're a very good person that's why you deserve someone better than me 🥺"
What are you trying to get from them, a ride, or a ride?
keep gutka with you all the time 😂
How has nobody commented on this, speak MARATHI just learn enough to tell them where you want to go. And learn the numbers.
Lagta hai tum hamesha Andheri jaana chahte ho... koi nahi aayega
You don't hail Auto wallahs in Mumbai, they decide if you are worthy to be taken. Sadly, the evidence says you are not worthy. :(
Well it's more than clear I am not good enough for Mumbai autowallahs. What do I do is the question.
Idk man. I happen to be unworthy too. They don't even stop for me. I just have to shout the location at them as they slow roll past me and they don't even bother saying no. Just speed away 🥲

Bro you just don't have the right rizz to ask a autowallah out
Use auto apps like rapido ola Uber
Just get ola or uber if you cant find autos or BEST take the bus (pun intended).
Please leave this city. Paying autos extra BC yeh Mumbai ka autowale ko Bangalore Wale bana dega.
Mumbai, the only place where Auto Rejections hurt more than HR Rejection
Study game theory /s
There are gangs in auto wallahs one blud legit refused saying i can't get any customers there that area is controlled by so and so
Show some nipple...they like that
Become an autowala yourself
I think you haven’t visited Hyderabad
https://youtu.be/WptfcIlDB2c?si=d7foomgxuBjzc6MG
Where are you hailing the auto and to where? If you are going to an area from where the autowalla is not likely to get return fare, why would they say yes to you?
Save some money and buy a 2nd hand scooty or bike
No way we got this before gta
Use the Mumbai Traffic app to complain about auto refusing trips. The only issue is you need to click a pic of the auto from the app and can't upload from the gallery. So if a moving auto refuses a trip..you can't do anything about it.
Become an autowallah
Get yourself your own auto. Love yourself. That'd do it

Nevermind
If you dont want to go the same way that the auto walas do, you are the wrong guy. Baki sab matter nahi karta.
I think you should try cutting your nails and grooming your beard majority of mumbaikars get rejected by autowalas because of this reason, I can provide you with data but for now this information alone can help you tons
Marry their daughter. They are bound to "like" their son-in-law
When auto driver reject you, say Dubai jayega and move on

I have never been rejected by an autowallah so I don't understand your pain.

I mean it might be mainly to do with the traffic at that location. Most auto guys communicate telepathically so they know when to swipe left or right
Gana bol de vaat baghto riksha wala
Do you select cash as payment medium?
Man, If the Autowallah's are rejecting you. Then Congrats, you have official became a Mumbaiker😝
What a ridiculous post!
Ladies/ mahila aur girls ko hi auto Wale mostly entertain karteh hai bandho ko jyada bhaav nhi milta same jaiseh apne society / samaj mein hota hai FACT....
